      Great video, Nico. It really helped me nail down which overdrive I'm going to buy.

    I was thinking A THE WHOLE TIME! Screamer seems to pull back certain frequencies and reduced expression. 65 year old ears factor -2 Db. My mid's are naturally scooped a little. Choose to get JOYO
    Thanks again for a great video review.. I think you are at the TOP on Pedal reviews. JUST RIGHT.

    This is how every comparison video should be - blind! Awesome stuff! Thank you! Joyo for me all day. I actually immediately knew which one was which - from other comparison videos I knew the Ibanez sounds smoother and the Joyo has more edge. I definitely prefer edge. :)))
    An even more fun thing to do would be to switch which pedal is A or B for each music bit. This way we would have to rely entirely on our ears to see which one we prefer in the context of each setting/music.

    They really are very close. For most of the samples I preferred the Joyo pedal. It sounded more articulate and had a better response in the mid range to my ears. It's important if you're trying to cut through the mix in a four or five piece band. It's no surprise to me that the Joyo pedal performed so well. I own a few and they all sound amazing. Besides at one fifth the price it's really a no brainer. Joyo is the way to go IMO.

    I might be wrong, but the Joyo is a copy of the 808 rather than the TS9 - I think this might account for the main difference in sound (to my ears, the Ibanez has a bit of a low mid bump compared to the joyo)

    • @ald7248

    After owning the Joyo for a while I can tell the difference. Luckily I forgot the order before re-watching. The Joyo is brasher and bigger sounding, but it's also harsher. There is a pleasant texture to the TS9. I prefer it over the Joyo.

      Someone for 7 years who was a great guy, a good player and songwriter. When we started he had a good tone but after a year he bought a metal
      Zone. I ducking hated it so much. Then he bought a second metal zone to cascade. If someone can’t hear how awful that sounds by themselves there’s little point telling them i concluded.

    I'm listening with a quality laptop PC with great sound, through a quality pair of headphones. There is no comparison, Sample A is consistently better, it has more clarity, is not as muddy. Joyo wins by a mile. Great comparison by the way, one of the best I have seen.

  • @holyronin
    @holyronin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    When you were setting them up, did you match the gain level by ear or use the knob positions? I much preferred the sound of A but I suspect it might be because it was set to higher gain

    • @NicoBellisarioMusic
      @NicoBellisarioMusic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey William! Both pedals were set identically as shown in the graphics. It seems to me as well, especially on lower gain settings that the Joyo has more gain but at full blast they seem almost the same. It also seems to me that the joyo has a fatter voicing while the tubescreamer has a bit more "sophisticated" voice, especially on single notes

    • @holyronin
      @holyronin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The sound differences could also have been caused by the difference in pots due to tolerances and taper. For a closer comparison in future videos I'd suggest using one pedal as a reference and tweaking the other by ear to have a simular level of gain and treble. That way you can be more sure what you are hearing are differences in the circuit as opposed to the variations in components.
      Love the playing will be keeping an eye out for the next one

    Joyo make good pedal efects at low cost. Some people say that are trash but i've been using a Dyna Compressor and a Vitange Phaser for about a year and didnt have any problem, buuut these pedals are'nt clones, the Phaser is not like a Phase 90 or a Small Stone and the Dyna Compressor is'nt a clone of the MXR Dyna Comp. The Vintage Phaser plus my Deluxe Big Muff Pi make a awesone couple! Add the Dyna Compressor and you get a nasty infinite sustain.

    I could tell immediately that B was the tube screamer by it’s thinner, quieter tone. Imo for my style of playing, the joyo blows the TS clean out of the water and sounds a world better. The TS was probably super impressive, back in 1983.

  • @heavymetal11
    @heavymetal11 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did a video recording via phone camera on my revv g3 which has some random bad connections which result in lower output. The differences is obvious when u heard it thru live, but thru the recording the differences is minimum.
    If one is after better quality tone, especially at home.The differences became more obvious when u used the original one on a quality tube amp and a noise reduction room.
    But if one use it for gig or jam, i think no one would pay attention to the differences when the singer screams and the drum rolled.
    Depends on your need. Today budget pedals are just bang for the bucks.

      +Paolo Memo thanks Paolo! "Heftier" is a very fitting word choice indeed!

      Nico Bellisario - Guitar, Music & Stuff This adjective occurred to me listening to your test. It seems that there's one more Joyo clone of the TS(!) named Green Legend, defined as "creamier" by someone who tried it. The firm says it has the same chip that's in the Vintage. The two could be more suitable for different sound nuances, genres or guitar types... what about it Nico?

    Is the joyo also great for boosting an overdrive for solos? Does it also gives that mid hump like the ts?

    Joyo or Nux?

    I actually like A for most of the samples, and B for a few. Surprised me.

    I'm a bit confused, wasn't this meant to be a Tube Screamer Vs Joyo Vintage comparison? Why was it the Boss Metal-Zone instead? WHHYYYYYY?!

    I liked the joyo. It sounded a bit fuller in the mids.

    Gotta say I preferred B, but it was definitely close and I wasn’t at all confident that it was the TS.

    Definition and clarity was much better with the Joyo, but that wasn’t fair, man. Sample B was mushier.
    Nice playing though.

      Sample B was the tube screamer!

      Ah - so still confused about what the Boss Metal Zone had to do with it?

    • @NicoBellisarioMusic
      @NicoBellisarioMusic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SuperJeremiah333 it was just a joke! If you rewatch you can see that soon after I say that sample B is that tube screamer :)

      A joke? Well I didn't get it, probably because it didn't start with "knock, knock."In that case I'll ask you "why did the dinosaur cross the road? Because they didn't have chickens in those days." And now I'll get hate mail from creationists...

    i've got both, the volumen of the Joyo is much more high than the ts9 volumen, apart from that they are very similar, good video Nico

  • @gregdayley4653

    Some bits I could barely tell the difference. but when I could I chose A every time. Funny thing is I already have the Joyo and was thinking about getting the Tube screamer to replace it.... Guess not.

    Hey Nico...my name's Mike...I live in Portugal...I have a big fucking collection of pedals and I've got the Joyo/Harley Benton Vintage OD and the Maxon OD808...but the Maxon is an 808 sound and the joyo that you are demoing is a TS9 sound.

    Tengo el Joyo y es un pedal increíble por el precio la única diferencia con el Ibanez es que el Joyo con el drive a más del 75 % hace un poco mas de hum .
    Pero en sonido es prácticamente idéntico al Ibanez.
    Buena demo,me gusta su manera de tocar la guitarra tiene usted buen toque. 👍

    I *knew* from the get-go that "B" was the TS9 because the mid-range bump was more pronounced and more focused. Which is *exactly* what I want in a Tube Screamer-type overdrive. If you liked "A" (the Joyo) better then I got news for 'ya - you don't prefer "Tube Screamer-type" overdrives. - cuz the Joyo *ain't* one.

    • @hgostos
      @hgostos 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the Joyo has LESS of that mid-hump but it's not that dissimilar. It's well placed within the TS family. Louder? Yes. Brighter? Yes. Less middy? Yes. A TS type pedal? Yep.
