A pair of needle nose vise grips work great to depress the tab ends. Clamp the grips on the tabs. Hold the filter housing, pull the hose. “like butta” I love working on my shitbox!
Thank you for this. Got me through changing mine. Seems like a no brainer in retrospect but I would not have thought to take off the gas cap and take out the fuel pump relay. Highly appreciated.
I'm about to do this ...another video pulls the relay while running and starves out remaing gas a few seconds ...WAY less drip after that ...just a squirt
Nice video and thank you. Followed as you said and it all worked out. I only wish it would of taken 10 minutes but I'm sure that is with 2 good arms. As I only have 1 arm that works (right arm only) it took longer then 10 minutes. But I was able to finish in about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes, so I was happy. I have been down to having 1 arm that works for 10 + years now that I'm use to adding time on to the things that I can do and to know what things that I'm not able to do, before I even start the project. Thank you again for the great video.
I see you posted this back in 2014. Still great info. I had no idea about the fuse or removing the gas cap. The tip on how to remove the original filter with the close up of the plastic part that needs to be compressed to remove the line was very useful. Overall a great video. Thanks for taking the time to post it because you just saved me a bunch of head scratching trying to figure this out. Hope you've resolved your late night outings... lol
The proper way to do this is to start the vehicle, pull the relay, relieve pressure via the cap with stem. Then take the clips off. You won’t spill gas like this guy.
I got to change mind I have the same truck as yours I never change it before but I am getting a vibration on the pedal thanks for letting me know about this I will get one from autozone
Thanks for the video, this one video earned you a new subscriber. My 2002 trailblazer has a rusty fuel filter that may be original... Alot of previous owners. lol, anyways thanks and God bless.
Sometime during the 2005 model year, Chevy changed the filter from an external to an internal located in the tank. Not sure when mine was manufactured but it does not have an external filter. Just an F.Y.I. for those getting frustrated trying to find it.
That's what I was thinking I have the 2005 model and I'm pretty sure that it's in the gas tank. So the only time that you can change it is if your fuel pump burns up
I just replaced my fuel filter and now it's leaking from the line. So I took it apart again and noticed a plastic seal and a rubber oring had come off on the line. I'm guessing they both went bad with age?
I got a 03 TB from the original owner who never replaced it...170k.... i'm replacing it tomorrow. I hope the MPG improves...its horrible right now lol.
I think this seems easy enough :) When it's nice outside, I'll definitely try to do this myself! Have any tips that you didn't say in the video? It seems surprisingly easy!
I have a 2007 Trailblazer 4.2-I6. It does not have a fuel filter. It is on the fuel pump (screen) and I was informed I had to replace the pump. How crazy is that.
How many miles does that Envoy have? Or is it broken? Because it said 888888 before you started it & then when you did start it, it said 70 Trip. I have a 2004 Envoy & a 2004 Trailblazer to & they both don't have 888888 on mine when i start mine. Is it broken?
haha where do you live. You seem to know your way around the envoy and now a days you cant trust most mechanics. I would love to pay you to do some basic maintence of my 2004 envoy.

Thanks for sharing this. I just changed the fuel filter on my 05 blazer. The tip to relive the pressure on the fuel system worked very well.
I'm about to do this ...another video pulls the relay while running and starves out remaing gas a few seconds ...WAY less drip after that ...just a squirt
Pressing the Schrader valve will relieve any remaining fuel pressure.
Nice video and thank you. Followed as you said and it all worked out. I only wish it would of taken 10 minutes but I'm sure that is with 2 good arms. What was that plastic knob, you turned at 1:30 in the video?

Awesome video thank you! Does the same technique apply to the 2002? If I'm having you issues should I go ahead and change the fuel lines to?
Thank you TTD, Best video...you the men.
should pull the pump relay while the truck is running to get the fuel out
so doing that will stop the fuel from coming out the lines?
True!
Thanks for the video, this one video earned you a new subscriber. My 2002 trailblazer has a rusty fuel filter that may be original... Alot of previous owners. lol, anyways thanks and God bless.
Nice video. My question is how would a new fuel filter increase miles per gallon?
awesome vid bud. very informative.
Why, couldn't you have started the engine, then pulled the fuel pump relay?
That is the best way to do it.

Wish the parts store would have mentioned that. Thanks Napa!!
what if you have the whole engine apart amd cant start it is there a way to stop the flow of gas?
Nice a fuel filter to replacement for Chevy Trail Blazer and GMC Envoy
So its not the same for a 2003 TB? Did they change after '03?
I thank you sir, great video.
I just replaced my fuel filter and now it's leaking from the line. So I took it apart again and noticed a plastic seal and a rubber oring had come off on the line. I'm guessing they both went bad with age?
the envoy 05 SLT base model has the filter inside the gas tank i found. not like my old 03 which i could change like this
I appreciate the video. I do think that leaving the cap on might have reduced the trickling. Cool that thee are no special tools.
this was a great video thank you
Was that a hair scrunchy on the turn signal lever? That's hot
I got a 03 TB from the original owner who never replaced it...170k.... i'm replacing it tomorrow. I hope the MPG improves...its horrible right now lol.
Great help great video appreciate it✌
thank you, made my change quick and easy
+Carlos Rios ur welcome. I still get covered in fuel.. lol.
Theres a tool you can buy for compressing those fittings on the fuel line
Is anyone having an issue of not being able to find it? I’ve looked everywhere
No fuel filters for 07 and up they r in the fuel tank part of the fuel pump
my 05 don't have one
thanx for the video,I went to my local auto parts they said my doesn't have one,it's in the tank.they told me to in "zone",get it.
that's what my trusted mechanic said as well
I think this seems easy enough :) When it's nice outside, I'll definitely try to do this myself! Have any tips that you didn't say in the video? It seems surprisingly easy!
Good JOB BRO... THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!
How do you change fuel filter on an 06 trailblazer??? are we not supposed to?
It have no Napa store in Brooklyn
What happend to the rubber gloves?
I have a 2007 Trailblazer 4.2-I6.
It does not have a fuel filter. It is on the fuel pump (screen) and I was informed I had to replace the pump. How crazy is that.
Wouldn't have that problem on a good old carb vehicle
Oh man
Thank you so much for the video! Needed this bad :)
I think you should've started it first then pulled the fuel pump relay fuse
That's how I do this procedure.
thank you for youre help was so easy
leave the cap on, your break and the suction that's why you getting all the fuel on the bottom of the truck
Donde. Tiene el filtro del gas un gmc envoy 2005 de 6 cilindros 4.2 l
Sergio Cisneros puede ser q esté dentro del tanque y no necesite ser reemplazado.
what if you cant get your truck to start ?
Always use the correct Filter.
You know they make a fuel filter tool
My 2006 trailblazer's filter is in the tank
so how do you change it then?
hockeyfan1 drop the tank and pull the fuel pump

LOL
Lol, that's normal, there are a couple different types of gauge clusters in these vehicles, the simpler gauge cluster does that.
Works easier if you lift the driver-side of the vehicle
Safety tip: Don't smoke when you are doing this job.
And the relay????
11:40 fuel filter syk0 shit was funny asfuck
What no french fries 🍟
GMG 2008 Envoy brings no fuel filter? no I locate ...
You got it changed but fuck that was frustrating to watch.
Ok
haha where do you live. You seem to know your way around the envoy and now a days you cant trust most mechanics. I would love to pay you to do some basic maintence of my 2004 envoy.
The other guy was smarter and less fuel spilling out! Your not that good!
Ok
