Really appreciate this. Surprised at how challenging it is to find good videos like this for backpackers and thru hikers.

Amazing shots and well done! I’m somewhat torn between the A7c and a small lens (like the 20 mm) or the new OM5 - very small and light as are most of the lenses. Very much bullet proof outdoors as well.

Thanks Gordon. I'm not familiar with the new OM5 but I really like the Sony Camera and lenses. I'm still using the A7C, hopefully we'll see an A7C2 soon. The new 16-35PZ lens has caught my eye. Looks like the OM5 would be a pretty light setup too. So many good choices nowadays. Good luck, I'm sure would enjoy either setup!

Very useful and informative. Do you use a UV or Polarizing filter at elevation. I'm getting back into photography and 30 years ago it was all film and the above filters were the go to's then.

Thanks, polarizing filter yes, but UV no. I use ND and polarizing filters. The polarizing filter is nice when I want to reduce haze or reflections. Have fun out there!

Great Video and explanations, do you think this is a good setup for someone starting photography. Prices arent bad but certainly dont want to spend 5k on a camera like a lot of others use.

Hi Andy, I'd say it is a good setup for someone starting out. You can get really good video and photos out of this setup for the price. Its compact and easy to travel with. If you decide to upgrade the body later on you can still use the full frame E mount Sony lenses. I looked at upgrading to the A7S3 but its a pretty big jump in price and noticeably bigger and heavier. So, I like this setup for its video quality, size, and price. Anyway, hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm happy to share.

How do you switch bertween the ball head and the camera clip?

    • @cascadiahiking

The camera clip system includes an “arca swiss” style plate that also works with the jaws of the ballhead. This makes it very quick to move between the two things to hold the camera. Cheers!

What kind of camera battery charger do you recommend. I have the same camera. Thanks so much

Hi Snail Trails, I actually just charge mine while in camera. I like the Sony model but its a bit expensive and only charges one battery at a time. FWIW Kraig Adams recommends this one, www.amazon.com/Newmowa-Charger-NP-FZ100-BC-QZ1-Digital/dp/B076CHQ1PM/ref=pd_di_sccai_20?tag=geniusus-20&pd_rd_w=TNIif&pf_rd_p=c9443270-b914-4430-a90b-72e3e7e784e0&pf_rd_r=GK2TJDM36BNDA19DE86Q&pd_rd_r=3f082169-dea3-497c-9411-33402d1e0797&pd_rd_wg=sopuy&pd_rd_i=B076CHQ1PM&psc=1&geniuslink=true.
