I was just more pleased with the images I was getting from my xt-20 24 megapixel sensor than the xt3 and it’s 26 megapixel sensor. They just looked better to my eye. I also have a Sony a230 with a 10 megapixel ccd sensor I also love some images it produces. I believe everyone’s tastes are different and now I know if I like a cameras images that upgrading is not for me. I’m also just a hobbyist so I can understand why a professional might want to upgrade to get higher resolution and faster autofocus etc.

    100% agree, the Fuji XT-30ii is a massively underrated camera and when you realise it's got all the same processor/sensors as the xe and XT and pro line (and at a lot less cost) it's a no brainier

    Thanks for doing this comparison! It wound up covering a surprisingly wide variety of picks, not just obvious "street photography" cameras, and included some options I wouldn't have thought of. What I think this proves is that balanced performance, responsive handling, and not being too burdensome are things we're entitled to ask of ANY camera...

    Second hand Panasonic GX80 (£200 or so) plus a good prime lens - there's a whole bunch of choices for under £400. Good stabilisation, quiet electromagnetic mechanical shutter, tilting rear screen with touch focus, RAW files are surprisingly good even in poor light. M4/3 also gives deeper depth of field per f-stop than APS-C or full frame, so if you're depth focussing, you can do it at lower f-stops than other formats and significantly close the gap on the image quality difference that bigger sensors provide.

    • @SrCordeiro
      @SrCordeiro ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True. Such an inexpensive camera but has it all for the streets. Pair it with a tiny 12-32mm, a 20mm f/1.7 and/or a 15mm f/1.7 and you're set for not a lot of money. I recently got one for the second time, realized how much I missed it, even if I also have Fuji and Olympus cameras that I love, there's something special about the GX80.

    • @uponthewing1501
      @uponthewing1501 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bought the GX80 plus 14mm 2.5 earlier this year and fell in love with it. Small setup, well made, solid feeling camera which is very fast in use. I put a small handgrip on it and carry it everywhere (the proviso for any ‘street’ camera, right?!)
      It’s a very inexpensive mini ‘Q’, budget plaything that delivers delightful results👍🤗

    • @marcorenato1814
      @marcorenato1814 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can you use the gx80 after dark, with the f1.8 primes? I always wondered if that’s possible, to capture moving subjects in low light with mft systems

    • @SrCordeiro
      @SrCordeiro ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@marcorenato1814 Sure, I've my GX80 today with the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 and 15mm f/1.7, it's great and so small and light, you become a ninja in the streets. The GX9 20mp sensor is a bit better even, and with better color. Will it be as clean as full-frame? Of course not, but still very good and nowadays noise reduction software with machine-learning gives the files an extra boost. The GX80 also has excellent IBIS for more static shots.

    • @disraelidemon
      @disraelidemon ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marcorenato1814 I use mine after dark with f1.7 and 1.8 and I'm happy with the results. You'll maybe get a bit more grain with mft than APS-C, but I'm very happy with the results I get. Bear in mind also that a lot of the Sony & Fuji camera bodies/f1.8 primes aren't stabilised, so the IBIS in the GX80 can let you pull down your ISO and offset some of the difference.

    A1 FTW. I used to shoot skiing and cycling a lot, and always had pro DSLRs (EOS 1n,1v,1D3,1Dx2,1Dx3). When I realized that I wasn't going to be doing sports any more and that it was time to hang the big, heavy DSLRs up, I craved the same "fast" handling and experience. The A1 was therefore a no-brainer. As the video says, it can do everything well, and it's fast enough to make even old sports types like me happy.

    I recently got a great deal on a used Leica Q, and LOVE it. Dream camera and everything I hoped it would be. Anyone who is lusting after a Q2 but deterred by the price should consider a used Q1 for over 1/2 the price. Still pricey, as it is a Leica, but gets a Q in your hands and has ~90% (if not more) the capability of the Q2. Most people don’t need 47mp, and will be perfectly happy with 24mp ☺️🤙🏽📷🔴

      Have had the A7c since April 2021, purchased as a follow-up to my old NEX-5N. Though fewer customizable buttons, it continues most of the advantages of size that mirrorless ILCs that the APS-C cameras did, as long as lens choices are as diminutive as the body. Even so, the kit lens is better than the kit lens for the NEX. The Sony 85mm 1.8 works for an alternate compact prime, as well as the low-cost Sony 1.8 50mm. Works, yields quality images, and all without breaking the bank.

    • @PLANETWATERMELON

    • @eddecker4174
      @eddecker4174 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The old NEX-5N I started mirrorless ILCs with had a flip-up screen though no viewfinder, so the screen was sole device for composing a shot. Yes it flipped up, and would let you hold it above your head and aim down--but it wouldn't allow a view from the front of the camera, nor did it provide a way to view the screen while aiming the lens in a completely different direction. The A7C does. You CAN flip it up, but only after you unfold it to your left, and THEN flip it up. Slightly more work, but same result as flip-up.

    A Lumix LX-100 with a Leica 10.9-34mm f1.7-2.8 lens is an old friend but still my favorite street camera. Even though being a MFT with a fixed lens, it's small, discreet and so much fun to shoot with. I can't find much wrong with the image quality unless I do some extreme cropping. The GX-9 has a good sensor -- maybe a bit of noise at times, but overall nice. I see no need for image stabilization on the street, as the shutter speed is cranked between 1/320s and 1/500s in most cases to prevent motion blur. Sadly, the GX series may have reached its end. 😐. Now a top of the line sensor, as you mentioned -- wow, a great dream, no doubt!

    My picks (and I own them) in price order, GRIIIx, X100V, X-Pro3 with an 18mm f2, 35mm f2 or a 50mm f2. Never use burst mode so not worried about that. The GR is a great little camera that doesn't attract attention to it, plus the IBIS is essential for one handed use. The X100V doesn't need any explanation. The X-Pro3 fills in when I need more than one lens choice.

      I’d disagree. It’s a very cool camera but I bought and returned-lack of a viewfinder was probably the dealbreaker for me. I have the (already older) X-T20 and the plastic XC 35 lens. When I look at the IQ of this rather cheap and simple combo - it's more than enough for street (and not only) photography. From that point on, it's about the photographer's ability more, than anything else. TBH, the street is one of the least demanding genres. You can do it with pretty much anything.

      The XT-20 is still a good choice. The autofocus is not quite as good, but the image quality is still more than adequate with a prime lens.
      The XT-30 is perhaps a bit better, but for 100€ more, the XS-10 is the better choice. You get more for your money.

    I am not much of a "Money No Object" when it comes to Street but in recent times Leica Q2 has been so popular among the TH-camrs. From Peter McKinon to Matti to Alen Palander. But for me I would've Fujifilm X100V or X-E4 along with Fujfilm GFX50R or a X-H2S. A smaller compact camera with a 16mm or a fixed 23mm or a 28mm lens for left shoulder and a fast, reliable and solid camera with a Zoom such as 16-55mm f/2.8 or a 24-70mm equivalent on GFX.
    Using Sony, Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon and even Panasonic, I've seen the major difference that Fujifilm offers with its color. The sheer dynamic range, colors and everything is just so pure.

With active stabilization enabled, it's a focal range that is remarkably similar to an iPhone at 1× and 2× zoom. I used my EOS R6 shooting on the street for a while. It's not bad: great handle feeling, super-fast autofocus and some decent lens for street photography(RF 35mm f1.8, RF 50mm f1.8, RF 50mm f1.2). But its shape is not that stylish, especially compared with Fujifilm and Leica. I've thought about changing my EOS R6 to Ricoh GR or Fujifilm X-S10 but finally gave up on this idea. It's a Canon: reliable and does everything great(but not that perfect), just like a trustworth friend. I love this feeling. And hope everyone finds their best camera for photography, maybe it's the one near your hand.

    Greetings Chris,
    Question:
    Leica Q2 vs Summilux 28 1.4?
    I’m giving serious thought to the Q2 for my pending trip to Vietnam. But I’m also wondering about the 28 Lux on my M11. I’m aware that the Q2 is cheaper with AF, macro capability, and slightly smaller.
    But the Q2 lacks the versatility of the M. Less megapixel for cropping. Subject isolation for the background is better with 28 Lux 1.4. And resale value has to be higher for the M lens than the Q camera.
    Please share your thoughts.
    Continued happiness and success to you and yours.
    Be Blessed,
    “Doc Chaps”

    I do think I have a different definition of street photography. To me you described the best point and shoot cameras. For street photography, to me, I prefer good manual focusing lenses that have hyper focal distances on them and an easy way to see your settings. This is why to me Sony does not rank so high. I prefer the X system, Leica and Pentax high quality lenses - all well machined, metal lenses with all the information right on them. And the X cameras pair so well with older glass… the Sonys also pair well with older lenses but the interface is too much…

      Knowing your camera is one of the biggest parts of being able to take a good photo before you miss the moment. On the street I shoot with af and mf cameras and it is still it's all about what you see and your ability to capture it before the moment passes.

    Elite and modern autofocus is nice, but largely unnecessary for most street shooters. Shoot f5.6/8, zone focus and go.

      An Olympus Pen Mini with a 28mm or 40mm equivalent pancake lens gets close. A lot of the top comments on Robin Wong's video on his budget GRIII alternative (th-cam.com/video/kYjxbPYKXAA/w-d-xo.html ) focus on comparisons between them and the GRIII/x, with faster autofocus being cited rather often. Not the same as zone focusing, which I personally prefer, but the form factor similarity is there.

    Good info Chris and lots of good suggestions from commenters. Overwhelming really. I'm looking to get into some street photography during travels but also need something with versatility for other travel related objectives i.e. architecture, landmarks, vistas, low light. The biggest take away I got for street photo was the need for an unobtrusive setup to be as invisible/unobtrusive as possible. From many of the comments, it appears that it's an either/or decision: Point and shoot style vs ILC; full frame vs APS-C vs M43. I get that the larger the sensor, the better the quality but I don't want the bulk and weight that goes along with full frame and even APS-C systems. It appears that the M43 format might be the best option to achieve my objectives. Any insights will be appreciated.

    Over-expensive cameras, and lenses are a distraction, particularly if you're worrying about damaging it, or having it ripped from your neck on the streets. If you have to put black tape over the namebrand, your camera is probably too expensive to be on the mean streets. I use a canon m50 for my edc with an 18mm pancake UFO lens (28mm). Small, light, takes quirky shots with a unique lens signature, and is dirt cheap. It looks like a toy camera, which I find helps me to blend in to the background. I can swap-out the lens if I need, Canon 22mm pancake, (35 equiv), or even slap on a nifty-fifty with an adapter, giving me 85mm F2 which is what I tend to shoot at night. I also like to use the full frame Canon 6d classic with a 24mm prime. I mostly shoot manual, and will use vintage lenses also, which I find are much better for zone focussing. I've never even touched a Leica, and thinking about spending that hideous amount of money for a street camera would definitely put me off from buying one. Each to their own… 🤔
