This is exactly the type of review I feel is beneficial to the general public. A bunch of real world long term tests in different environments. Not just a spec sheet. I just received mine today and I’m so excited to begin using it. : )
Dude, I just found your videos today and I’m now on a binge. They are so refreshing to watch! A lot of the channels I used to watch that made content similar to this have now transitioned into more sensational content that only plays to the algorithm. While I respect their business decision as full time TH-camrs, it does make me sad when the content I subscribed for is no longer a priority as they change. One creator I requested old style vlogs of replied to my comment saying “those videos just don’t get views”. Anywho, i digress, it doesn’t really matter what i think lol- but i just wanted to say, thanks for making content like this that’s so down to earth. Regardless of what your journey ends up looking like on the platform, i really enjoy sitting back and watching engaging content like this! -storm
A friend of mine recently bought it before an automotive shoot to help with the video side for rolling shots. I went into the shoot knowing that it was a pretty capable little camera and the flexability with 10 bit D-log M was great. But once I actually used it at the shoot and worked with it in post it truly amazed me. It exceeded my expectations and provided a good bit of dynamic shots to the final video. When you say convenient it truly is! I didn't have to do anything dangerous to myself or to my main camera to get rollers (hanging out the back of a car with a harness lol). It's something I'll invest in soon and use in my kit for sure!
What a lovely video. I used to watch your channel years ago for your light room tutorials, and I was researching the pocket 3 and stumbled upon this video of yours. I didn't expect to get emotional from it, but seeing your shots of the beautiful landscapes did it for me :)
I’ve been using the pocket three for about four months now and I am amazed that it punches way above its price range. Long as you have enough light the quality of the video is terrific. In low light it’s not terrible but it certainly ain’t the Sony a7s4. But the best thing about the pocket three is the stabilization… I can go running and it’s smooth as butter.
Interesting perspective. I visited Patagonia almost thirty years ago. The landscape and wind are the same, but I travelled with a SLR, shot film and no video. Video cameras existed of course but with horribly bad quality. Casio had just launched the QV 10 stills camera with 0.25 MP. Quite a difference to the Pocket 3.
Man I'm so torn on buying this camera. I started out creating videos just with my dji action 3, and went and bought a sony RX10IV for a flexible setupnfor filming wildlife spotting trips and hikes. The one thing I'm missing is a small, easy to use camera that allows for more cinematic looking B roll. The action 3 is nice, but its fixed focus which isn't always what you want and the RX10IV takes some time to set up which isn't convenient. So what do you think of the pocket 3 for this particular use case (filming while walking, B roll, close ups)? My main concern is how fragile this thing is. I've heard of stories where wind blowing sand grains into the gimbal ruined the camera. Another option is buying a gimbal like the Hohem Isteady Pro 4 and upgrading to the action 5. Its such a hard choice... 😂
I'd really only suggest this if you're vlogging or doing anything adjacent to that. Most of it's strengths stem from that (audio, stability, easy to pocket)
@@AlexArmitage So you'd say it's not really suited for b-roll stuff like short clips of tree branches, leaves or grass/plants blowing in the wind, static shots with you walking in/out of frame or focus, or revealing shots coming from behind objects? It's clunky to have to use the RX10 for this all the time as it's a lot bigger and heavier and often requires to setup the tripod. And the action cam doesn't have that nice DOF.
You absolutely nailed this video!!! I couldn’t stop smiling the entire just because you and your beautiful wife have amazing personalities and you really put this camera to the test! Thank you so much for your review! 😊
I’m wanting to be able to transfer the data from the device to my iPhone to post on social media TH-cam primarily but also TikTok and Facebook posts. Cannot be done through Bluetooth.
I was looking at getting this camera to compliment my Z Cam E2 S6 when making automotive films, this with a car mount would cost £700 ish... which could work nicely but now i think you've convinced me that it deserves a spot in my travel cam setup as well as my old trusty 450D
My Osmo Pocket 3 started having issues with the Depth of Focus/Field. I've checked the PRO settings and have configured it to either Single, Continuous, & Product Showcase, but the shot stays blurry in all three modes. I tried tapping on the subject on the screen but it stays blurry. I have to angle my OP3 upwards then slowly bring it down to shoot a clear video, but after a few seconds, it gets blurry again. I tried resetting my OP3 back to Factory Settings, but the problem still persists. Love the cam, but this blurry issue is so frustrating! Any assistance to this matter would be absolutely helpful!
I have had the Pocket 1 since launch, then got the Pocket 2. Still use the Pocket 1 often because I prefer the focal length, but those two cameras have taken me around the globe more than once. I also take a Sony RX100 VII for stills, but do lots of travel video on the Pocket cameras. I look forward to adding the Pocket 3 to my kit eventually but there are always so many other important things that swallow money, so I need to wait. The whole Pocket form factor and size are perfect for my needs. The gimbal works so much better than EIS on other cameras.
He says for such a small sensor? In my limited experience, a 1 inch sensor is not small. With your set up what do you consider a normal size sensor to be?
Hey Alex! Thank you so much for this, this is exactly what I needed. On the run, real-life use for filming in non controlled environment. Probably the most valuable review I've seen so far! I just had a question about switching between modes, which you kind of answered, but got me super curious: How much do you find yourself changing White Balance, or do you set it to auto? And, how often do you find yourself taking off the ND-lens? I tend to spend most of my time recording in day light and occasionally low-light (head-lamp) environment. But it happens that I go in-doors multiple times a day, like you did on and off the plane/car, maybe inside a tent, e.t.c. That would help me stay prepared and aware during the transitions between these environments when I take it out on first run on the 20th of May! Thank you again! Fingers crossed, that you'll see my comment =)!
This is a great review. I agree that most TH-camrs use cameras once or twice and move on. Ppl that actually use them instead of being paid to use them goes so much further.
We absolutely love the pocket 3. It has solved so many issues with our vlogging and definitely a lot of our professional work. It's just easier and let's you focus on other stuff. Of course it's not perfect and photos it takes isn't very good but for a clogging camera. It's excellent.ty for sharing!
One of the best Pocket 3 reviews I've seen! Question for Alex or anyone else here using it -- when filming non-handheld shots of yourself doing photography, do you carry a second full-size tripod and mount the Pocket 3 on that? Just use the tiny legs it comes with? Something else?
You should try the variable NDs from K&F. I literally only carry two filters, and I dont change them out NEARLY as much. It’s one less thing to really think about.
Very informative, well done ! How do you achieve the blur effect when shooting from your car ? Does the ND filter do it or some pocket3 setting is needed ?
I don’t know why but on 25fps I find the ‘juddering’ quite jarring on this camera on pans (much more so than my ZVE1) so I’ve taken to filming everything in 50/60 which looks decent.
Nice! what do u recommend between Sony zve10 w kit lens or osmo pocket 3 creator combo for videos like reels and some photos, but for Personal use? Which one is better? Im a beginner so i want to have experience w a good camera
Very good and useful video, Alex. I've got my Pocket 3 recently and still have to get the grips (for example, did not know that I could have fixed shutter speed and variable ISO). Just one question: which was your settings for sharpness and noise reduction? Thanks again, amazing video.
When mounting or filming inside a moving car the pocket 3 starts to rotate the oposite way of the car turning. This is useless to have, Is there any way to turn this off? Any updates to this?
What a great review and a fantastic video! Well structured and you touched on basically everything I was wondering about. Really great! Thank you so much for making this. Subscribed! :)

Just discovered your channel, and IG. Wow, some amazing shots on your IG. I'm looking forward to watching more of your content! You've been to a lot of my bucketlist places ;)
The thing I hate the most about the camera is… I like it so much!! I bought a second one and primarily use it as a PTZ camera! Able to control the pan & tilt from a distance is a god send. And if the subject moves too much, then I auto track their mug, while I'm doing photography of the event. It really makes you a 1 man show. God help me if they make another one with the lens from the DJI Mavic 3 Pro. I'll be broke!! P.S. Fantastic photography by the way.
Ahhhh… that Patagonia wind, I remember it well! Were you able to jump the border and check out El Calafate on the Argentinian side? Also spectacular as is El Chalten not far from there -that's where you can see and climb or simply trek to Fitz Roy base! Cheers Alex, just discovered you today-good work.
Perfect! I took my Japanese son in law to Buffalo Wild Wings first thing when he visited the US. I know they are not definitive wing but purely American food.
its funny because people watching is not comparing or caring or even noticing what people shoot on or the resolution.. only people that film do. anyway great video and i love my pocket 3 only had a weekenf but it has me wanting to shoot again
Hi Alex, outstanding work my good man! Around the 9:00 mark when you started dropping images I feel your video went even more vertical in the most positive way! I seriously appreciate you using the OP3 for 6 months prior rather than just a few days or weeks since it often takes a while to really get into a camera especially something different and new, at least I have found that, what about you do you find that as well or something different? As I watched your video location Patagonia it got me thinking I simply could see the similarities to Vancouver and the various mountains and lakes we also have here. Have you guys been here yet? If yes, how was it? If not, how come and when are you coming? It appears from your video we share a lot of the same equipment. I would like to add a chest POV for my OP3 and probably a longer selfie stick. Alex, your video is DOPE, keep up the awesome work mate. Who knows maybe we might even see each other in the future. Thank you for your information and great video, exactly what I was looking for. I have the OP 3 now for 2 weeks and try to find my best settings for my use.
Good morning Alex and Sophie 🌈 Patagonia, WOW. Looking forward to following along. Silly question, why on earth did you go in winter? Are you just a glutton for cold weather 😂. Wishing you two a fun time.
Great video Alex - first, I think it might be moving Patagonia up on the bucket list - those scenes!! I've been using the Pocket 3 for about the same amount of time and I agree, it just stays out of the way while telling a story, small, lightweight, the gimbal has improved my b-roll tremendously - both for ease of having a camera at hand to the stability of it, I could go on-and-on. I think I'm finally going to have to break down and get the ND filters, I've been shooting on auto for a lot, but the samples you showed were great at illustrating the difference. (I know in one of my recent videos - I looked too crisp - brighter conditions). And now that makes both you and Heaton commenting that the log video is workable even without luts if need be. Guess it is time to do some more experimentation with the camera. Safe travels!
Just backtracking and watching some of your older vids, and this vid perfectly encompasses why i subbed in the first place. Great storytelling, combined with great photo's and a fun personality as if it were two good friends talking.
We love you for doing this video Alex, wow impressed, can you tell us what time of the day and settings that Aeroplane footage was at on 3:39? Dlog-M i assume? if you see my latest video i also spoke about this camera and settings too, you did an amazing job
Do you want to know the statistics for people who don't want to look at a person with a nose-ring? No you don't. It's ridiculously in favor of normality.
Not even 15 seconds into the video your rudely interupted from speaking directly to your viewers and never continues the conversation until hours or traveling later. This is the first vid I'm seeing of your content but that first little skit turned my curiosity off damn near immediately. Hope your voice ends up reaching whoever your directing your content too but its quiet obvious it's not for everyone. Best of luck

Very nice. Great adventure, great images, what's not to like? Safe travels.
thank you Brian
Just backtracking and watching some of your older vids, and this vid perfectly encompasses why i subbed in the first place. Great storytelling, combined with great photo's and a fun personality as if it were two good friends talking.
We love you for doing this video Alex, wow impressed, can you tell us what time of the day and settings that Aeroplane footage was at on 3:39? Dlog-M i assume? if you see my latest video i also spoke about this camera and settings too, you did an amazing job
Thanks for such kind words and yes, d-log for 98% of the video.
@@AlexArmitage your welcome. Was that aeroplane bit colour graded or straight out of camera?
Cost of the pocket 3 vs everything, incredible. and if it breaks, a new one is well within the budget.
*looks at bank account* I do not plan on breaking it lol
Amazing views
Great review
Nice video.
Thanks!
I love the pocket, but the camera is extremely brittle. Dropping it even from a few feet is absolutely devistating.
tell em flanders
okily dokily
Sooo… maybe I missed it … but why will I hate it? 😅
Hah. Maybe I should have made it more clear. Because you'll want to turn your more expensive video cameras into paper weights!
I came to see about the pocket 3 and now I want an Asian woman !
Do you want to know the statistics for people who don't want to look at a person with a nose-ring? No you don't. It's ridiculously in favor of normality.
"I hate this," just the title alone is enough not to be interested in anything you say. So , I extend the middle finger to you.
Not a fan of the clickbait at all so had to dislike the video but good review 👍
What was the click bait? 😂
I hate this thumbnail
same
Not even 15 seconds into the video your rudely interupted from speaking directly to your viewers and never continues the conversation until hours or traveling later. This is the first vid I'm seeing of your content but that first little skit turned my curiosity off damn near immediately. Hope your voice ends up reaching whoever your directing your content too but its quiet obvious it's not for everyone. Best of luck
No ones content is for everyone.
You are or you’re. Not “your “. Because grammar. You’re welcome. (Your second and third “your”s are fine 👌🏻)
Thats okay! Lots of other content options out there, hope you find what you're looking for.
Skip it if you don’t like it then lol
LOL, Internet karen 🤣🤣
The color of the whole video is wrong.
No, it's not. Check your device for issues.
@@npatricksmith Do you say that your skin tone is blue?
