Fun Fact, the dance is a Viennese waltz and the animators put their heart in it clearly, the movements are very well animated for that dance :)
Edit : Nevermind apparently not rotoscoped after some research the animator was apparently just a gigachad and tweeted out that they did it all by hand. Although he likely had some amazing reference material for that.
Evan Call, the OST composer, gave the scene a shout out for that one second cut to the orchestra... the strings were actually playing THE CORRECT NOTES in the score in that moment. A Waltz for Stark and Fern.
The best part? The dance was only a single box in a manga page, the animators absolutely cooked.
10:00 My favorite interpretation of Fern's line "It doesn't suit you" (and the reprise at 11:10) is that, perhaps without even being aware of it, she's saying that she prefers Stark as he is normally (as opposed to fake-noble Stark).
That's how I read it as well.
I love how Frieren had three whole months to choose what grimore she wanted, but apparently she was so busy eating cake that she waited until the very last day to check out the library.

I'm glad someone else mentioned how the music gives them Crystal Chronicles vibes, I said the same thing and nobody I know has played that game. lol.
This is the episode where the Fern/Stark shippers all started screaming like grandmothers. And it was organic. It grew from the story with nothing forced. Well, aside from all the cake Frieren shoved into her piehole. 🍰
And Frieren gets to have her cake and eat it too.

Stark is a super warrior at the peak of his athletic abilities so with just a little training it is not surprising that he would be an excellent dancer, and Fern definitely noticed. Madhouse is firing on all cylinders in this dance event to animating some archaic and ancient etiquette. When a man asks a sitting lady if he might have a dance, he drops to one knee and offers his open palm of his right hand face up. If the lady accepts she places only the tips of her fingers of her left hand into his open palm. How they knew that is surprising. Fern was raised by a celibate priest and elf and Stark by a single Dwarf and they are seventeen having no contact with the other gender. Of course they are completely innocent.
Fern and Frieren basically pimped Stark for cake😂😂😂
I don't think they would have been wiped if they did not have Sein because Frieren would have forced them to leave the village when they could still fight against the curse, though in that case then the village would be wiped

Well Frieren wanted to nopp the f* out the moment it looked sketchy and probably they would have gone the next settlement with a church so they could have handle the business. But it is interesting to see that it does not register with many 1st time watchers, what would have be the alternative route taken if they hadn't have a priest in the party.
Lots of people seem to forget that Frieren is extremely risk adverse and has no shame in avoiding a confrontation that she isn't confident she can win without getting her hair messy. Of course, since she's a gatcha addict, shinies can make her evaluation be a little wonky.
Ah yes, the episode that made all the Fern/Stark shippers dance with joy, and made pretty much all the non-Fern/Stark shippers convert to the ship!
3:35 I think being turned to stone, at least like Qual was, is better. There is a duration to it and one is reasonably difficult to injure as a stone block.
I think in Qual's case though there wasn't an actively hostile force draining his life force or mana away during his time in stone so after the 80 year nap it would have basically been like taking a long nap but in the instance of demons or monster curses which seems to be a different kind of magic than Frieren being able to turn him to stone. It's reasonable to assume that if a demon, or monster had placed a curse on someone or a group of people that there would be some other lingering effect associated with it that maybe Frieren wasn't able to also incorporate into her imprisoning Qual due to her not being able to understand the fundamentals of the spell she used like maybe the demon equivalent would be turned to stone + mana drain or something. Kinda like the explanation in the previous episode when she explained that she wouldnt be able to just safely fly the cart to the ground because the flight spell that she uses is just an imitation of the flight spell that demons use without a full understanding of how it works just what it does.
4:44 IIRC the author has stated that it is because of the difference in how warriors and mages handle their mana. A warrior focuses inward while a mage focuses outward... This makes a warrior have less resistance to magics like this.

No about the mana suppression. The mana suppression makes those around her incapable of detecting their mana, but it does not lessen the impact of the mages mana or it's innate abilities and passive buffs for lack of a better term.
Frieren and Fern's resistance is in no way impacted from their mana suppression. Fern's resistance is depended on her mana capacity and Frieren's resistance in proportioned on her mana capacity and her natural resistance as an elf. The second part, the elven resistance is something that can be inferred by the fact that the Elves in this setting are almost Tolkienian in nature, and the Elves in Tolkien's world are naturally gifted in magic and resistant to almost all manner of mind interference or magic in general.
