Like you said, if it had like a 10 game classic bundle I think it could have gotten some attention.
One plug and play option that works with modern flat lcd TV’s is the Wii guns with a Wii. You should be able to find a system on ebay as well as various guns and wiimotes.
I still have a PS3 with move controller (and 'gun holder') to play Mad Dog I & II, The Last Bounty Hunter, Time Crisis Razing Storm, House of the Death 3 & 4, and Deadstorm Pirates.

This is where Sega can make a comeback with a Dreamcast 2. Light gun games on the Naomi board miniaturized like the Genesis mini but with some new light gun tech that works on flat panel screens. Then they can bring back all the light gun games we all miss. Virtua cop 3 anyone?
Dude I would buy a Sega light gun console in a second. Picture this HOTD2, Confidential Mission, Ghost Squad, LA Machine Guns, VC2 & 3. Bundled with 2 accurate guns. Oh the possibilities. I’d pay 200-300 bucks for such a plug and play solution.
I do miss the light gun games, I have a Wii and PS3 but as you know, not much fun on modern T.V.s accuracy issues. Back in the day, I was famous in my local arcade for Double-Gunning the Original House of the Dead! I could clear the first level using both guns without getting hit! Those were the days! I’m surprised no retro gamers mention this…but the Wii is an amazing light gun gaming beast for hdtv. So many stand alone wii light gun games like HOTD, Ghost Squad, LA Guns, Mad Dog Mcree, Resident Evil gun games and more. That’s right out of the box compatible. If you’re more inclined, load up the home brew channel and emulate your old console game light gun shooters. I was just playing Lethal Enforcers, T2, Duck Hunt and Menecer 6 in one the other week.

You read my mind about why it failed. It was $30 in Canada on Amazon in 2019, and I didn’t buy one, then they skyrocketed here now. I had my eyes on the At Games Hyperblaster last year because of the same and it was canceled. I’ve been trying to get HOTD and Virtua Cop using my new Oculus Quest 2, I’ve seen a bunch of videos online, basically it’s a light gun gamers dream, but I’ve had little success without a gaming PC. I’m gonna keep dreaming, I’m hoping this year with the HOTD remake coming for Switch that we get new hardware, I honestly think that is the cause for the delay, it was supposed to come out end of 2022.
I’m so thankful that I kept my old consoles & lightguns. However, the one game I spent WAAAAAAAYYYYYY too much money on was Police Trainer and it was never ported. That’s a bucket list arcade machine for me.
Had a Act Labs gun back in the day (still have it) and it's really good although it's not wireless. I thought it was cool cause you could pretty much use it as a mouse as well. Had some contraption you hooked between it and the monitor via the VGA plug. They made one that was also compatible with tvs but never got it. Thanks for the history Ralph. Never knew anything about this gun.

Agreed man, people are catching on to the fact they can sell them for more and call them "great for retro gaming". I wish I didn't sell my 32" Trinitron so I feel your pain. I have a few PVMs but they're small screen sizes.
Interesting take. This sort of brings us closure for why companies aren't looking to bring lightguns back on account of PDP failing. The current tech isn't simple enough and accurate enough for commercial release just yet. Hopefully the sinden tech gets us there starting with the polymega. After chatting with Andy briefly on my personal reasons for returning my Sinden Guns he did tell me that he's looking to significantly improve the software to make it easier to configure the camera. He seems to be fairly motivated to do so as well.
I'd grab a pair of Sindens if they weren't hundreds of dollars and I didn't have to wait six months to get them lol. Using Wiimotes on my PC has been good thus far.
I agree with Retro Ralph. Can we protest and request for more light gun games? It’s just so sad that with the power of the PS4 and now PS5 and XBOX WHATEVER ONE OR 2 they call it because their system naming is confusing ASF! But anyways, each of these freaking consoles need to just come out with one great gun and come out with 50 light gun games. It’s that too much to ask for??? Allow Rambo, Jurassic Park, T2, AeroSmith Revolution X, Time Crisis 1-4, House of Dead 1-5 and Virtual Cop 1-3. Please sell us at least a bundle package with just one light gun to work and I’m pretty sure we will all buy. When I first owned the first XBOX and House of Dead 3 was out, it came with Madcatz gun and you had to buy a third one. Spent $80 total which was rip off. Good thing after beating the game you unlock HOD 1 and 2 as bonus so that was good. However, the Madcatz guns would not work for any light gun and what made me mad is Microsoft would not partner with Sega to make other light gun games! ARGH! So frustrating! Same when I bought Time Crisis and it came with one gun! That’s it for the PS1 and the only gun game argh! Then for PS2 Time Crisis 2 and 3 only! ARGH!
the one lightgun game i cared for was shooting usa and i have not seen one since i was like 10 and if the scoop red bar was perfect i would put up number one scores on the leader boards of the game on near perfect to perfect runs with no issue on master difficulty was such a fun game and over look game too
I desperately wish they would bring light gun games and the peripherals back to the market. I mean they have just released house of the dead remake that game needs a light gun. Hope someone makes one that's just easy to use. In the meantime I've ordered a AE light gun seeing as it's more plug and play than the others.

Very cool. I've never even heard of this gun before, but it does look like something that's a bit wonky to set up. Still, it's a shame to see the lack of support because it could have been something pretty fun. I'm holding out on the CRT version of the Gun4IR. As someone that uses a Makvision CRT in my Mame machine, I'm hoping that'll be a feasible option in the future.

I have a PDP Mars camera and 3 guns. It is the worst light gun set up I've ever used. Simply put it doesn't work because the IR light beam is reflected on the screen itself causing there to be 2 lights on screen at the same time, which means my aim is constantly bouncing on two different locations, and is thus useless. It would have been more reliable to go the Wiimote route instead, even though that method was lackluster as well. You sound pleased with your Mars accuracy however, so do you have any tips to make it work better? I'm playing on an OLED TV, and I've tried different room lighting conditions and nothing works. The one plug and play method you didn't mention was GUNCON 3 on PS3. Even though the tech is similar to Wiimote, it is far more accurate and reliable. You can play with the reticle turned off and your accuracy won't suffer. Only 3 games support it (even though there's a bunch of rail shooters, idiot developers only supported PS Move with their games). GunCon 3 could have been one of the best supported light guns, if only those Move games were made compatible with it.
Both are much better than the Aimtrak, I don't ever mess with either. They're very much set and forget solutions in comparison. Not that Aimtrak is bad, it's just a hassle I would rather not mess with at this point.
Never make a proprietary item for its own games, a lightgun in this case should have been farmed out to many game manufacturers and worked across all platforms including emulators via a PC. Missed the design, programming and marketing on this one. Good video, Yea I never heard of PDP Mars either, that's probably why.
So you can play with this light gun for the PS4 and xbox one ? What is an all around light gun we can use. I just bought a Nintendo wii for light gun games.
The games that it came with extensively didn't have a save slot, and the light guns were not able to be adaptable to PC. If these two were able to be done, it'd succeed. Sinden would have beaten it out of the water for sure, but it would have held its own with the consoles at least.
Awe. This video just came up on my feed today. Makes me sad. I loved the PDP since it worked accurately and was easy to set up. I hoped somebody would be able to mod this for use on the PC. Or at least if they could have made HOTD remake compatible. Sadly there’s no money in that. 🤷♂️😞
Im still bummed that House of the Dead Remake on the Nintendo Switch hasn’t even been followed through like it was expected to be released last Fall 2021. Hopefully Nintendo Decides to make a really cool like Lightgun that will be compatible with gun games like Mad Bullets, House of the Dead Remake and others already released
I was actually looking to purchase Voyage of the Dead on XBOX the other day - but I think it’s been delisted. Strange, cuz I found it in the PS4 online store.
I think you can still get it, but you need to redeem it via code. So you would have to find someone selling the kit. I think... I'm not positive. I actually want to try the other games but I found the same dead end you did.
Do you know why I can use my Sinden light guns to start the games, pause the games, end the games, when I pull the trigger or the pull back the gun pump you will here a noise as if you pulled the trigger but nothing fires on the television. Can anyone tell me why my guns are not firing on the television scene?
I dont guess you can buy voyage of the dead anymore. I am in the xbox one market, but cant find a pdp kit with this game. I almost got one back then but held off. I am ready to get one and they are in the wind.
Nice to see you doing this type of content again. Though PDP Mars missed the mark, it feels like there are some really good options coming out with Sinden, Gun4IR, and AE(?). What we need now is for a publisher or game company to license the tech for consoles so it gets exposed to a wider audience. Show the younglings how much fun light gun games can be!
I hope that we get a new lightgun game that actually has proper PC lightgun support, as being stuck to it being for one player sort of sucks. the House of the Dead Remake (at the time of writing) sort of feels like a missed opportunity with light guns on PC. could've been awesome to get a House of the Dead edition modern light gun.

Hey Ralph. I need your help big time!!!! I'm trying to mod my big blue cabinet with a Dell 20inch 2007fp monitor. I'm using a raspberry pie as the computer. I'm having serious issues trying to get my sound to work. I'm not sure what connections I need to make please help,!!!!
Are you using the 3.5mm audio jack on the Pi? If so you need to make sure in the audio settings your having the audio passed down the 3.5mm instead of HDMI.
No. I'mmy raspberry pie is connected to the monitor using a VGA adapter. Do the connection is going from raspberry pie to adapter to VGA output to VGA input, which is to the monitor.
The monitor only has two USB connections and a speaker power port. So I'm not sure if I need to buy a speaker sound bar or some type of special adapter. My pie has a power adapter slot, two small ports that I don't know what they are called and a small hole that I think says AV OR AVV. IMlost man. Can we exchange emails so I can show you my set up,?

@@RetroRalph its no "point blank" or any of the classic ps1 light gun games, but it fills the void, i had a huge collection of old school gun games for ps1, 2 and dreamcast. if you like tabletop game "demeo" is fantastic on the quest . RE4 and gun club as i said, and all the start wars games are short but fun!
I talked with these guys about making games for this light gun and THEY RARELY TALKED TO ME ABOUT IT AND IT WAS JUST 3 CRAPPY GAMES they had for it. if it would have reported stuff like house of the dead or time Ciris it would have done better. I bought one to mod it for PC but no one has ever modded it. so I gave up.
that is hideous. The Stunner+GUNCON are the best looking lightguns. I can even accept the neutered colors and orange tip on them because they looked so cool. This thing looks like a suppository injector.

Both the gun and the games of the PDP Mars looks like crap to be honest. If only they would have given us a gun that felt like something ripped straight from an arcade cabinet. Instead we got something that looks like it's made out of toilet paper rolls. And then should have made some games that at least evoked some of that old school light gun game feeling. Perhaps then more people would have been interested.

How do the Sinden and the IR compare to the Aimtrak?
In terms of precision and keeping calibration and the like.
Both are much better than the Aimtrak, I don't ever mess with either. They're very much set and forget solutions in comparison. Not that Aimtrak is bad, it's just a hassle I would rather not mess with at this point.

Never make a proprietary item for its own games, a lightgun in this case should have been farmed out to many game manufacturers and worked across all platforms including emulators via a PC. Missed the design, programming and marketing on this one. Good video, Yea I never heard of PDP Mars either, that's probably why.
So you can play with this light gun for the PS4 and xbox one ? What is an all around light gun we can use. I just bought a Nintendo wii for light gun games.

The games that it came with extensively didn't have a save slot, and the light guns were not able to be adaptable to PC. If these two were able to be done, it'd succeed. Sinden would have beaten it out of the water for sure, but it would have held its own with the consoles at least.

Awe. This video just came up on my feed today. Makes me sad. I loved the PDP since it worked accurately and was easy to set up. I hoped somebody would be able to mod this for use on the PC. Or at least if they could have made HOTD remake compatible. Sadly there’s no money in that. 🤷♂️😞
Im still bummed that House of the Dead Remake on the Nintendo Switch hasn’t even been followed through like it was expected to be released last Fall 2021. Hopefully Nintendo Decides to make a really cool like Lightgun that will be compatible with gun games like Mad Bullets, House of the Dead Remake and others already released

I was actually looking to purchase Voyage of the Dead on XBOX the other day - but I think it’s been delisted. Strange, cuz I found it in the PS4 online store.
I think you can still get it, but you need to redeem it via code. So you would have to find someone selling the kit. I think... I'm not positive. I actually want to try the other games but I found the same dead end you did.
Do you know why I can use my Sinden light guns to start the games, pause the games, end the games, when I pull the trigger or the pull back the gun pump you will here a noise as if you pulled the trigger but nothing fires on the television. Can anyone tell me why my guns are not firing on the television scene?
I dont guess you can buy voyage of the dead anymore. I am in the xbox one market, but cant find a pdp kit with this game. I almost got one back then but held off. I am ready to get one and they are in the wind.

Nice to see you doing this type of content again. Though PDP Mars missed the mark, it feels like there are some really good options coming out with Sinden, Gun4IR, and AE(?). What we need now is for a publisher or game company to license the tech for consoles so it gets exposed to a wider audience. Show the younglings how much fun light gun games can be!

the House of the Dead Remake (at the time of writing) sort of feels like a missed opportunity with light guns on PC. could've been awesome to get a House of the Dead edition modern light gun.
Damn I just want to pick up and play all those Saturn games! I thought the aimtrack would do it, but I have to configure it for every game. Just wound up throwing it in a box. I never heard of this gun so I think you nailed it they just didn’t market to those of us that want it?

Hey Ralph. I need your help big time!!!! I'm trying to mod my big blue cabinet with a Dell 20inch 2007fp monitor. I'm using a raspberry pie as the computer. I'm having serious issues trying to get my sound to work. I'm not sure what connections I need to make please help,!!!!
Are you using the 3.5mm audio jack on the Pi? If so you need to make sure in the audio settings your having the audio passed down the 3.5mm instead of HDMI.
No. I'mmy raspberry pie is connected to the monitor using a VGA adapter. Do the connection is going from raspberry pie to adapter to VGA output to VGA input, which is to the monitor.
The monitor only has two USB connections and a speaker power port. So I'm not sure if I need to buy a speaker sound bar or some type of special adapter. My pie has a power adapter slot, two small ports that I don't know what they are called and a small hole that I think says AV OR AVV. IMlost man. Can we exchange emails so I can show you my set up,?

@@RetroRalph its no "point blank" or any of the classic ps1 light gun games, but it fills the void, i had a huge collection of old school gun games for ps1, 2 and dreamcast.
if you like tabletop game "demeo" is fantastic on the quest . RE4 and gun club as i said, and all the start wars games are short but fun!
I talked with these guys about making games for this light gun and THEY RARELY TALKED TO ME ABOUT IT AND IT WAS JUST 3 CRAPPY GAMES they had for it. if it would have reported stuff like house of the dead or time Ciris it would have done better. I bought one to mod it for PC but no one has ever modded it. so I gave up.

that is hideous. The Stunner+GUNCON are the best looking lightguns. I can even accept the neutered colors and orange tip on them because they looked so cool. This thing looks like a suppository injector.

ive just spent $1200 Modding my Dreamcast in code veronica red, buying clear keyboards with mouse ,2 freaking lightguns ,sdcard separate with 610 games bummer no duckhunt, cause I have a lot ôf memories as a kid playing this console,only to find out light guns don't work on flat screen modern TVs common man I have time crisis ,house of the dead 1,2 ,virtual cop 2 an I can't play these games with my hotrod of a Dreamcast can someone help me with a solution? I think the number 1 reason is that it looks like a toy gun from the dollar store.
The fact that it was only for consoles killed it for me.
And then there's also the fact that it looks ugly asf and not like a real gun. Just no.

Both the gun and the games of the PDP Mars looks like crap to be honest. If only they would have given us a gun that felt like something ripped straight from an arcade cabinet. Instead we got something that looks like it's made out of toilet paper rolls. And then should have made some games that at least evoked some of that old school light gun game feeling. Perhaps then more people would have been interested.
