I have both guns. With the gun4ir, if you have a fisheye lens, you can stand closer to the screen than with a Sinden pistol. You don't have to worry about the lighting in the room. The recoil in the Sinden pistol fades when firing automatically. But these are not the main disadvantages of the Sinden pistol. With gun4ir, using mamehooker, you can adjust the recoil like on a real arcade (not in all games, but there are many of them). It's strange that none of the reviews I've seen mention this. That is, when you run out of ammo in the game, the recoil will not work until you reload the weapon. And this is the most important plus of Gun4ir. Based on this, it follows that it does not make sense to install Sinden in an arcade machine. Gun4ir wins in everything and is in no way inferior to real arcade guns.
Thanks for mentionign all the things that most reviewers leave out! Another thing that's left out is the price comparison, and availability. It is 2x as much to buy the GUN4ir, $150 vs 300 recoil) but its more readily available. WIth Sinden, there's one guy doing all the orders (i think) and there's quite a wait, unless u want to go ebay used route. (edit :actually gun4ir isn't readil available, u need to go to 3rd party stores).

I just got me a 28'' CRT-TV and couple of GunCon2:s for blasting PS2 games. Lots of fun, easier and cheaper too!
I have read and watched endless comparisons of sindens against the gun4ir and the only thing that matters which is never answered is how 1 to 1 the cursor is when doing quick movements like an old school lightgun. I dont care how much the guns weigh, or their setup, or anything else. Which gun is closer to using an old school light gun when making snap movements. Nothing else should matter as much and its annoying its not the focal point of any comparison.

The reason none of them mention this, at least for the sindens, is because it is terrible. The lag is really bad. I have 4 of them on two different systems and they are not good. Any game that requires fast movement like buck hunter are impossible to play. Every shot will be so far off from where you are currently aiming.
@@scow01 might need to tweak a setting. I have not had this issue at all.
@@scow01 You might want to check your lag in your display or somewhere else in your chain. With GUN4IR, it's very low latency with raw input. Certainly much lower than the human reaction time of moving your site to the target and then pulling the trigger. But it could also depend on the game/emulator's settings as well.
I love my sinden gun as I move around to different PCs and monitor's. I think if I was building a cab I would go for gun4ir. Both are good fun, bring on more light gun games.

I specifically went Sinden for my cab since the gun4ir sensor placement would be a challenge both physically and cosmetically. Sinden has been great!

@@patrickgemmill2762 Exactly. I have a full bezel around my monitor so I would have to cut slots out for the sensors. Sinden has a software border, it doesn't bother me a bit, and it goes away when playing non gun games.
The only games I used the light guns for was Duck Hunt and Clay Shooter. I do not know why Nintendo never re-released Duck Hunt durning the Wii era or even with the Nintendo Switch.
Duck hunt was on Wii and you had to use the Wiimote. Can't purchase it now due to Nintendo taking down the store for the Wii.... BUT if you have a modded Wii (I do) you can get the game through modded means...
@@wrekman1 The thing I was talking about re_releasing the game in the way of making the game with 3D and updating the graphics don't get me wrong the old version was good but updating the game was a missed opportunity for Nintendo it would of been a great re-release but updated for the Wii.
Have only recently placed my order for a Sinden. Cant wait to give it a shot. No recoil. My orignal PS1 & PS2 GunCons didnt have recoil and thats the games and experience I want to recreate

My friend bought a couple of Sinden guns, when they came available.
He gave me one of them to try and use, I've been having it since.
Firstly I tried to get it to work properly, on two different computers and displays.
It had quite terrible jitter on the cursor on screen.
I never got it working properly and it has been on my shelf after that.
On this summer, I suddenly remembered it again and decided to test it again.
New software, new firmware. Same problems.
Getting it to work with something like MAME is, frankly, just too much work for me nowadays...
I mean, I've been living the DOS-era and all the configurations it brought with it.
I honestly tried to get it to work again on 2 different systems and displays. After two days of frustration, I gave up...
I got it to work with Duckstation, kind of easily. Though button mapping is still a thing I don't understard. If you remap the trigger and press the trigger on gun. It just doen't work. One has to map it to left mouse button and as the gun is configured to use trigger as left mouse button, why that doesn't work??? Don't know...
Anyway, suddenly during trying different settings, gun reversed every axis (up, down, left, right). Quitting and restarting Sinden software got it back to normal.
Sometimes, the trigger just doesn't work or there is a terrible lag.
Jitter is horrible, spending hours on trying to adjust the settings, it's all the same. The jitter is just horrible.
65" LG C9 (with 3700x and Asrock Radeon 6950XT) and Samsung CHG9 (with 5800x and Gigabyte Radeon RX 6900 XT Extreme Waterforce WB).
I'm just glad I didn't waste my money for this piece of... Well, let's just say I'm happy for those, who got a working one. This just doesn't.

Similar experience here. 90s gamer with coding background. Never worked as advertised. Lots of messing with the config. So much that the sindens ended up shelved. Not even going to bother trying Wii-similar infrared targeting systems. Usually nothing but lagged or non calibrated gameplay.
Though jitter hasn't been a big issue for me the slew of other issues have been. I've configured these with mame, teknoparrot, duckstatuon, standalone games etc and the experience has been less than enjoyable. The sheer amount of lag these have makes them almost useless. I mean the curser is literally trailing the gun movement by inches. Try any big buck hunter game which are practically impossible to play with these. These are only marginally better than a wii remote level of lag. Plus the driver/software will randomly crash and won't restart unless you unplug and plug them back in or restart the entire system. Add in that driver updates haven't happened in a year. Note i have 4 of these on two different systems all with the same issue. Different TV, different computer. Worse is listening to all the reviewers saying how accurate they are. Sure they are accurate if you move then stop and wait for the curser to catch up before firing. Also note that all the reviewers seem to only review these on small 20 inch monitors and never on a large 40" plus tv were the lag is a serious issue. These would be much better if they worked more like a tablet style input where it would only calculate where to click when the trigger is pulled rather than constantly trying to track where the gun is pointing.

Wow bringing back the old super jolt gun. I got that from a Vegas trip when I was younger. I has a gun metal paint spray weights pretty hefty it worked on ps 1 and sega saturn. You had to aim down the bottom hole and not from the sight because its sights are off. It cost around $80 to $100 back then.

I have both, and while there's arguments to be made on the practicality of the white border VS the IR sensors, and whether the white borders are a dealbreaker for you or not, if we're talking simply about the latency and accuracy of the gun itself and nothing else, Gun4ir absolutely blows Sinden out of the water. There's just no comparison; Gun4ir wins in every way.
This said, even though one is clearly better than the other, they're both at least good, and I don't feel either purchase is a mistake.
Not mean to offend you. I just stumbled on the sentence. The term "... blows ... out of the water." is the sentence Nerdy, tech, or pc enthusiasts love to say when comparing things. They love using this word to justify their decision is right and the others are inferior to the product they are praising of. Many turn out to be overstated and BS. I like to listen to people's opinions but whenever they say that word, it reminds me of those people.

I have a black sinden with the recoil. i do mot use the recoil feature much though. Once you have it set up it is pretty spot on for most of the games. Nes duck hunt using retro through retrobat has played extremely well, and so has the naomi, and other sega games. It is jst what I needed to round out my home arcade.

I have not. I've been using it for mostly the arcade stuff. Virtual cop, house of the dead. I will test out pointblank if I have it in a few days and let you know. Is there a particular platform that it is on that you want me to test?
@@dupehotterthansoup I would be doing a MAME build for an arcade cab. Maybe PC for a TV but likely the cab and MAME is easier. I’m not skilled lol

You forgot one big thing emulation and some games just don't work. Is their any way to make full blown video on windows 10 set up for light gun set ? showing how to set up for this as this one thing I have not seen.
Ain't spending more money on this. Got 2 Aimtrak, the first and less cooler/precise amongst IR gunz, basically just a Wiimote but I played evsrything from Point Blank to House of the Dead 5. It's enough for a blast in the past.
I bought a sinden lightgun a few weeks ago and I'm having so much difficulty getting it up and running that I'm considering returning it 🥺

I actually had sindens for a bit. Love the build but programming Is Such a pain. Gun4ir takes a lil bit of programming as well not nearly as intense

Also Sinden with recoil works out of box. Gun4IR requires you to find custm 12 volt 2 amper power system to get recoil

suprised you didnt talk about the accuracy of each one. ive reviews that really hone in on the accuracy and the gun4IR is a lot better as the sinden is very jolty and shaky.
It is better, but I wouldn't say a lot better. Sinden has a small amount of shake, but nothing game breaking. These are all things that I believe will be improved in the future. That's the good thing about software based; firmware updates and app releases can get better.
I didn’t understand on wich os was working on, i wished you tried it with other devices like mister or os, i’m really curious about the compability out of the box.
I’d say the recoil being slow and not on point in the sinden is a massive deal as it cost 50 quid more it should be perfect for that price increase
gun4ir is a good gun but the price is a joke. 250-280 euros per gun is insane. A sinden is between £90-£140 less than half the price. In fact you can get 2 sinden for the price or gun4air and have change.
You can build your own... Rpeg Electronics is NOT the creator of the project and marks up the guns he mods WAY high... Jaybee is and all he asks for is $15 US for the software license and the rest you can buy for next to nothing if you build your own....
It depends, if you're looking for out of the box then it's more expensive going the gun4ir route. If you're building it kit wise you can get it up and going a lot cheaper. For example £20 gun, £8 usb cable, £17 camera, £8 arduino, £18 software license. You need to wire it yourself and setup and IR system but it's pretty cheap.
It's the extra mods that cost the money but gun4ir is really modular so you can do pretty much anything.
Also anything that will take a mouse as an input will run with gun4ir. Another one to check out is Samco which is open source and uses 2x wii sensors bars and has its own pcb.

Congrats on having a Gun4ir. They are going for over 1000USD now. So I had to get the sinden for 1/10 the price.

What I insanely hate about the sinden light gun is the price point and you don't even get a braided cable... honestly I hate sinden for that sinden just feels beyond over priced
For the prices trying to sell, this can even get a stink deck. Would you be way better? This technology should be the add expensive if she'd be more reasonable. But at that price at the 300 plus mark, it's way too much.

@@retrokid5182 There is a Bluetooth option, but it sucks. Use a USB adapter and it won’t suck.
Also, you need to make a DIY gun in order to use Bluetooth.

Sinden is better easily now Sinden with recoil is 50% or more cheaper than Gun4IR. Also Sinden is available in stock while Gun4IR is out of stock

Will these light guns work on android phones?
I know this is an old question, but Sinden works well on a projector. I've got a 100" setup and it works fine as long as you're sitting back far enough for the camera to see the border. I don't have a Gun4ir to test, but using WiiMotes (single IR blaster) it was really hard to get accurate in games. Ultimately I had to move the IR blaster to a table closer to the seating area, but even then it got really jittery when near the top of the screen. I would imagine that the Gun4ir would have a much easier time with four points of reference instead of just one.

I am NOT a fan of Sinden... I cant stand the border around the screen... Takes you away from the arcade experience. Also the software has to be running in the background where the Gun4IR just needs it to configure the guns and that's it... its all internal. And the last thing is Gun4IR is DIY...the most expensive part is $25 for the IR emitter and you can basically tape the parts to a stick and you have a very cheap gun.... So that being said, I like how you can turn essentially anything into a light gun at almost any budget, or drop the $$$ and buy a pre-built. I am cheap so I prefer to mod my own Guncons. But love how you can turn a Nerf gun or a Super Soaker into a light gun!!
I bought the Arcade 1Up T2 arcade game that uses Sinden lightguns in place of the original arcade guns. The border is there but it doesn't take you out of the game at all imho. So far I think sinden guns are the best.

I only now that Sinden works with Botacera 1p at this moment. No idea about EmuElec.
Raspberry pi does also work with light guns.
In my opinion, Gun4ir is better, unfortunately, the biggest problem of Gun4ir is the availability of the entire kit in Europe, the person who deals with sales, modding does not send to Europe, so Eu is forced to solve Sinden, although Sinden is on average available in Eu, but it is ;(

I have to look for it, maybe I can buy just the gun4ir clone set, I already have light weapons and Top Shot Elite rifles on PS3 (it's a pity that the ps3 ones don't fully work with the PC, the so-called sensor) and they are waiting for conversion and inserting the gunir set ;)

Neither system is plug and play. It's just a question of what you want to futz with. I'd rather build my own gun and futz with setting it up essentially once than have to screw with every game I want to play. Do what works for you. No wrong answer.

I feel like the white border around the screen should be a hard deal breaker for the Sinden guns. I followed them from the beginning and when it was all said and done they just didn't deliver on the promises they made.

Way to over priced. You can get retro shooter for under 300 with 2 similar guns a peddle and a game box with games. This is waaaaaay to much for what it is. Hell ,I have a wii modded with modded controlers in airsoft guns that are wireless, have recoil and cost around the same price as one of these guns for the whole setup.
Sinden is horrible. I have both, and Gun4ir is far superior.

Sinden's prices have always been reasonable. Gun4IR's have always been vomit inducing.
I have a Sinden but it really sucks. Don't recomend it. THe chinese ones with led sensor are far better cost around 80bucks!!! And the software is a garbage,
The sinden light gun is extremely underwhelming. It takes a lengthy amount of time to get it configured with more then one emulator. Wiimotes gun shell and dolphin bar have been the best plug and play solution so far albeit a limited game library

GUN4ir looks like a pile of shit cheap shell, lenses bought off ebay and i assume IR sensor and PCB are adwino chipset 250 euros for this tho and the quality is so POOR like a kitbash someone made in their moms basement.
Sinden looks vastly more well built and has a reasonable and better quality overall more arcade quality build.
now i had a few diffrent lightguns for the PSX back in the day Gcons scorpions recoils versions but the thing about the 90s was QUALITY was amazing for the price. even with inflation nothing came close to the quality of controllers back then now you're paying though the nose for armature crap cos someone with a 3D printer calls it "CUSTOM" nah it's 3D printed made to order you're not custom making jack shit.
anyone with a decent resin printer can do high quality printed parts and knock out affordable products but they like to think adding a TIME premium is important.
