Kenyans are pretty friendly people, people just confuse their straightforward aggressive nature with rudeness, and I guess this is mostly a perception of Tanzanians because in Uganda they dont consider Kenyans as rude
It seems more like NYC than other cities Tommy has visited (though he's in East Africa, Lagos seems really crazy). It would make a lot of sense to me because I'm a NYer. You just can't be over polite in a very fast-paced city. You have to be a bit aggressive at least.

Tommy good to see you in Nairobi. Sneaking into refugee camp in Uganda with your Ugandan wife Jose, someone commented how sensitive is the refugee camp. That both of you might sit in Ungandan jail before you are able to get out of Uganda. That makes both of your blog even more interesting.
There are many historical places to visit in Nairobi. The railway museum is one of them especially if you want to know about the history of Nairobi. Also visit the Nairobi national park.

“You learn Swahili to blend with people you use it like a shield 🛡 “ True but is also the attitude and to not be afraid to do or try what people living there do every day , that’s when you start blending and earning their respect . When some one takes the time to learn about other culture and speaks the language deserves to blend in and be welcome
I loved Nairobi, some of the homeless can be aggressive, but most don't do that. I think because you were filming he assumed you had money to burn. But they were some of the friendliest people I ever had the privilege of spending time with. My first night there a few of us students went to a club downtown, after the taxi dropped us off we were informed that the club was closed for a private party. It was after 9 pm and the man working the door actually walked us Mzungas a mile accross the city to another rival club, when I offerred him $20 he looked at me like I had just shot his mother. I apologized profusely, and he told us if we wanted to compensate him then we should come back to his club and he would take good care of us. We did and he was wonderful. Got to know him well the 6 weeks we were there, and never went back to the other club that he took us to. I was 22, my first experience outside the US, and it was life changing.
Nice story, yes in England if someone does something for you, they do it because they like you or want to help, not for money. But I will add in some countries people are very poor and do these things for money, but when you do you get a big smile, like the lady I bought some flowers from for our garden, when I told her to keep the change her smile and words of thanks were so sincere, it wasn’t a lot. I live in Thailand.
You have come to Kenya already with the mindset that Kenyans are not friendly and that luo and Kikuyu's hate each other. I also see some Kenyans here talking about nairobbery. It's a shame seeing people lack self dignity and echoing what perception outsiders have about Kenya which is not entirely true. Kenyans stop the self hate it's really a pity. Luos and Kikuyus only have issues during elections time. Other times they are brothers and sisters. Decolonize your minds.
but si ni ukweli luos and kikuyus wanachukiana imagine ata venye raila alifanya handshake na uhuru wakikuyu have refused to accept it,no wonder saa hii kikuyus have moved their support kwenda kwa hustler

Poa sana rafiki yangu. The last 2 minutes of the video is close to our old neighbourhood. We used to walk to Yaya centre and back every morning before work. It's really impressive how the whole area around Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa has developed in the last 8-10 years. We lived off of Oloitokitok Rd which was basically a dirt road back in 2012. Anyway enjoy your stay. Try to get to Lamu somehow low budget. Or Rift valley. You won't regret it.

Also the Church of Scotland mission nearby and you’ll learn about the very genesis of some of the Christianity in Kenya 🇰🇪
Shout-out to the guy that said he will subscribe ✌
Níatía
Him; níkwega
I love how he blends with people wherever he goes
Yes,respect for the customs and language pays off...same with the happy face and good vibe
Kenyans are pretty friendly people, people just confuse their straightforward aggressive nature with rudeness, and I guess this is mostly a perception of Tanzanians because in Uganda they dont consider Kenyans as rude
It's the perception of Kenyans themselves, eg the bodaboda driver said it
V. true
It seems more like NYC than other cities Tommy has visited (though he's in East Africa, Lagos seems really crazy). It would make a lot of sense to me because I'm a NYer. You just can't be over polite in a very fast-paced city. You have to be a bit aggressive at least.
Kenyans r friendly it's not like people don't fight in tz yes they do ..it depends who you deal with coz tz poeple r not any friendly on social media its just the pretend I rather tell u off than pretend so I support fighting for you .Kenyans fought for kenya n they r still fighting for kenya so if anyone isn't fighting then they r loosinng coz they r trying to be nice .kenya won't be where it is if it was not for Kenyans otherwise tz is still far but Mob love to everyone tz +kenya ..#East Africa #Africa 🌍
it's your own perception so swallow it as you go
For your future safety, please don't go behind closed spaces, such as the enclosure of the statue, with someone you just met.. They could have easily swindled you there..
No lie man. When dude opened the gate to let Tommy walk ahead of him I was sweating. But then I reminded myself that if that scene made it into the vlog then all was well in the end. 😂
He should also wear a jacket while riding on a motorbike
You're way overblowing the potential for danger in Nairobi. The vast majority of people do not wake up everyday looking to hurt other people
@@karmakameleon113
Lmao where are you from? 😂 Give me your name, adress and phone number so I can pay you a home visit.
But he wasn't was he? that's a public space...ya'll like blowing things up like chill, we are not thuggish eyeroll
Wow! What a big difference from Fort Portal Uganda. Just saw the post from Miss Josey and she needs you now more than ever. Even though some of us are in the diaspora we are all grieving for the loss of her dad and brother.
Nairobians are friendly people, keep walking this great city, the Capital of East Africa
You missed the Safari Rally Buddy! Nonetheless I see Subaru Boyz welcomed you 15:12 ... Karibu Kanairo! I already feel the energy coming up in the next episodes. Looking forward, Isonge sana.

I have been following you from Tanzania,Uganda now you are finally home.

Wow 🤩 @sabbatical you are far away from Mexico and you are making some noise out there .. CONGRATULATIONS!!! You deserve it!people know when someone is genuine.DIVISION doesn’t get one far in these TH-cam streets..😂
Woooow. I just love this guy. I think it's one of the authentic channel I've been watching lately. So great how the videos are simple and real time. I think it wouldn't be much authentic if it was filled with voice overs and b-rolls.
It's simple, the people are the Soul of Nairobi, and all of Africa...
Asante kijana wa boda boda kutambua heshima ya Tanzania twakutakia maisha bora
Jamaa anatueshim watanzania
I love your honesty and the way you look at things in that part of the world most people would be very nervous to walk in your shoes in those atmospheres as to things that they don’t understand or trust but you are showing in your own way that they are different people at the end of the day people living just like us the best way they can keep up the good work xxx
Yeah bro Kenya seems to have been on the upwards pattern for some years now💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿🇰🇪💯! Nice roads and getting even nicer, Americans might be able to move over there and make some pretty decent money !
I couldn't have chosen a better boda guy for you..... Welcome to Kenya 🇰🇪❤️
7:57 “They put Slick Rick on a damn bus “🚌 🤣
There are many historical places to visit in Nairobi. The railway museum is one of them especially if you want to know about the history of Nairobi. Also visit the Nairobi national park.
That motorcycle ride was nuts. haha
My BFF is my life..she’s kiuk I’m Luo ❤️
Tribalism is history now in Kenya..Thank you so much for showing real Nairobi to the world ,bit stressful but this how every big cities operates, new sub ✴️.
At election time, that is when there's tribalism. The rest of the time it's non-existent. 99% of my friends are NOT of my ethnic group.
This has been changing though
I’m 23 and most of my friends can never ☺️❤️🇰🇪
im actually learning few things about my continent,Thanx for that, texting from the south
I am a Nairobian and I just found your channel!!! Broooo this is awesome. I am subscribed!!
Evry TH-camr wanna visit Nairobi cuz
Is peaceful and beautiful place
This is the third of Sabbatical video I have watched and his is much more informative than most. Thank you for the display of the fine city of Nairobi. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
As an Indian Muslim I learn more on TH-cam about my country than i actually ever did back in school. These schools are useless 😭😭
What do you mean?
💯
Nwo only wants you to know so much.
“You learn Swahili to blend with people you use it like a shield 🛡 “
True but is also the attitude and to not be afraid to do or try what people living there do every day , that’s when you start blending and earning their respect .
When some one takes the time to learn about other culture and speaks the language deserves to blend in and be welcome
You will need to make more than one video for Nairobi from all the diversity it contains in it
I loved Nairobi, some of the homeless can be aggressive, but most don't do that. I was 22, my first experience outside the US, and it was life changing.
is it always offensive to compensate in money, or was it just something personal?
Nice story, yes in England if someone does something for you, they do it because they like you or want to help, not for money. But I will add in some countries people are very poor and do these things for money, but when you do you get a big smile, like the lady I bought some flowers from for our garden, when I told her to keep the change her smile and words of thanks were so sincere, it wasn’t a lot. I live in Thailand.
I'm watching you while eating pizza and drinking orange juice, greetings from Indonesia😁🇮🇩
Can I copy your homework 🇵🇱
Nah but seriously after I watched one video I can't stop not watching another one 👌
Fascinating and interesting journalism
I like how the guy explains Nairobi's capitalism, "We gonna get that money baby"
Thanks darling for visiting east Africa 💋💋💗
You have come to Kenya already with the mindset that Kenyans are not friendly and that luo and Kikuyu's hate each other. I also see some Kenyans here talking about nairobbery. It's a shame seeing people lack self dignity and echoing what perception outsiders have about Kenya which is not entirely true. Kenyans stop the self hate it's really a pity. Luos and Kikuyus only have issues during elections time. Other times they are brothers and sisters. Decolonize your minds.
Well said Faith. People say the dumbest things and reinforce stereotypes. And these are Kenyans nonetheless.
@@alexchui3511 True it's a pity
True every garage in Nairobi you will find a Kikuyu and a Luo working together
True every garage in Nairobi you will find a Kikuyu and a Luo working together
but si ni ukweli luos and kikuyus wanachukiana imagine ata venye raila alifanya handshake na uhuru wakikuyu have refused to accept it,no wonder saa hii kikuyus have moved their support kwenda kwa hustler
Sabatical at it again, just enjoying exploration of beautiful Mama Africa
Just saw your Uganda video where children were thinking you are a ghost. Good to see you also trying the Kenyan life. Hope you will like it.
You showed Yaya centre which brought back memories because I actually stayed in those apartments that you can see right behind Yaya centre at 26:05 . Spent about 4 years there as a kid. Thanks for sharing Nairobi to the world!
"He didn't have the matter of tribalism in him."
Later
"I'm Luo..that's why I'm here, because he was a Luo"
😂😂😂
Hello Tommy, is it ok to meet for your autograph and possible a trip to lamu
Well Tommy, is it ok to meet

Thank you for making this video. You're very lucky in that you have a cool, disarming personality which works well in Kenya, especially with your Swahili.
Born in Kenya and live in the UK now. Its amazing to see how much its changed loved this episode .
@Nidhi Roy I still cant Believe how different it looks now, I googled the road we used to live in what a change, I do not recognise one bit of it. Found a Book I got in 1982 a (Progress prize ) From Braeburn school . Best Memories Made in Kenya Miss it so much.
Bro why did you leave us,I enjoyed your videos of Kampala and Entebbe.Nairobi is lovely as well.Enjoy and please come back to Uganda, after the lock down.

Nairobi is the best city in east Africa
Kenyans are unique in all ways.... Their eloquence in English is top notch..
This guy is underrated,he really needs more recognition
Sabbatical in my home ground! Holla of you might need free accommodation in the city. You need to create some video tutorials about your Reading and absorbing techniques bro cause your research is pretty impressive.
I'll let you know about that
Poa sana rafiki yangu.
Karibu Kenya Sunday is a preferable day to film it's less crazier and you'll be allowed to film.
