To record this video, we got an inside look at an actual Cuban chain making factory. From the melting of the gold to the actual polishing of the chain, as well as other behind-the-scenes footage, it’s all here in this video.
Main steps involved in the manufacturing process (see below):
00:00 Intro.
00:08 The melting of the raw gold to make a bar.
01:00 Stretching the bar into the proper gauge gold wire using the rolling mill and the draw-plate machine.
03:02 Winding the wire to form a coil and cutting it to make the individual links of the chain.
04:48 Interlocking the links and welding them together.
06:17 Flattening the links with an industrial twisting machine.
06:50 Gluing the chain with Shellac and filing down both sides.
08:21 Making the box clasp for the Cuban link chain and welding it to it.
10:24 Polishing.
11:12 The finished product.

The same impression of humility in the face of so much meticulousness and hard work invades me when I see the design and manufacture of any object requiring so much precision. I often forget that so much imperturbable patience is possible! It is also impressive to note that machines and robots have not yet completely replaced human craftsmanship. These Cuban chains therefore still retain a certain romanticism because of it. When we wear them around our neck, several hours of hard work and sweat gaze upon us! It is just as fascinating to see such beautiful, shiny objects come out of a manufacturing place so tired, worn and tested by the years. The incredible and unique CRM family once again fulfills its educational vocation. CRM forever!
