Only the exclusive 1.0 came with a 2nd faceplate, the normal was basicly what you have now. I feel like sideshow found a batch of these 6 years later and decided to sell them as new. My 1.0 doesnt even have the flimsy arm issues which Im grateful for.

Where was the passion, the attention to detail, the extra mile and craftsmanship in this build! Imagine getting this as your 1st 1:6 figure after seeing all the Star Wars incoming product spending $300 on it and having this experience fresh out the box, an absolute pathetic release.
This is gonna be my first sixth scale figure, I was more than estatic to get a re-release of my favorite StarWars character that I wanted as a kid... now I’m extremely worried as it seems like a hit or miss, I’ve seen a few reviews where they didn’t have a single problem; I hope that’s the case with mine.
"I felt a GREAT disturbance in the Force..." I remember in our stream this week we shared our reaction and thoughts this figures quality and its what I expected but much, much worse... I hope collectors are calculating on what needs to be done, whether you want to get a full refund back or try the Danoby way and modify your Sideshow Grievous mistake...

The fact that the older version is better than this is crazy to me. I had the old one, and not even that one had such loose joints, it just felt very fragile.
I collect vintage collection 3.75! Huge collection and many vehicles and play sets! I have my entire 14x20 room is just about full..lol and my displays are awesome!

I preordered him recently before seeing all the problems that comes with him, when he comes i will try out the things you did with the joints. Thank you for showing these hacks. I am also not a fan of returning things.
I’m a 3.75 mega collector and that poster tac, and a hot glue gun are a collectors best friend! Instead of stands I use 1” washers with the poster tac on there feet and it works better in my opinion! They are bottom heavy so the don’t tip over, and they stay how you put them. And with all my Jedi and Sith characters I use the hot glue gun for there saber hilts on there belts. A little drop of hot glue and your good to go! They will come of easy if you want but hold pretty good if you want it to stay! I enjoyed this video because you seem to be just like me with crafty stuff you use! I hate returns as well and will usually find ways to make it work long before I return it!
SS Grievous not available (if purchased today) till Dec 2021/Jan 2022. Any chance they fix these issues you think? I requested a full refund and I'm going for it. Rather get my money back and see what Sideshow does. Clearly the cage has been shook.
Thanks for the honest review. I'm going to keep mine assuming nothing is actually broken, because he's the only option for now. I think incorporating the nylon ties and maybe some nail polish, I can tighten up the joints. Gotta live for the now. Who knows when or if Hot Toys will ever do one.
Just use a mini hand drill to make a hole through the pins in those joints and use domed head self tapping screws (those used in virtually everything made) to secure the two halves of the joints together while still allowing articulation that can now be tightened or loosened. If you don't like the look of the screw heads either fill them with Milliput and paint or 'Sharpie' them, another solution would be to use electricians' shrink wrap/tube over the joints and carefully heat it to compress the joints on its own or to cover the screw heads and add more stability to them. Time to fix all four: 30mins, cost to fix all four: less than a $.

Mines broke out of the box !! The double arm hinge peg also got STUCK in the torso ! On the first day. Already got Sideshows to send a prepaid return label for an exchange but i don't know if i Just want a full refund instead!

By the end of the video I got the impression that your keeping him!? Also it appears that after a lot of tweaking and messing about with him, you got him to look kinda cool (which is never a bad thing). Nice video.

11:13 I wonder if there are things inside the translucent organ sac of this figure. It looks like there are actual internal organs inside that thing, which is both cool and creepy at the same time. I haven't seen people take apart this figure to remove the organ sac and then see what's in there.🟢

The quality in this figure is unacceptable, everyone should ask for refund, sideshow must understand people are not taking this just because Hot Toys are not making him. As collectors we deserve respect and this release is a slap in the face.

I will say that this is a very hard figure to get right! I haven’t seen one on any scale that has no problems! His body is so hard to reproduce without making the joints metal

Was going to be my first sideshow product, Grievous is my favorite Star Wars character and was waiting for it to come back. Had it preordered but saw this and some other early reviews and for that price I am super disappointed. Thankfully contacted them and got my deposit back and order cancelled. Super bummed.
I bought this because it was on sale and I love General Grevious - unfortunately, I had the same issues as you did. This is terrible in comparison with my 1/6 Scout Trooper (which was a great product in my very limited experience). Considering I had to pay shipping, duties, and would have to pay shipping again to send it back....I'm just gonna keep it and never move it, I guess :( Good review Danoby, thank you!

Appreciate your honest review and your tips to try to help collectors see the positives in this 2014 reissue. I canceled my PO as it’s too much money to spend on such a flimsy cheaply made figure IMO. I was excited when it was first announced but after concerns nothing was improved and that unboxing nightmare they had, made me want to use my money elsewhere. I’m ok with not having a GG in my collection. Wish they were a bit more forthcoming with what this release really was. That’s my main factor with canceling. As always great review and nice highlighting of the good and bad with this figure. 👍🏽
Great video, thanks for sharing your findings. I have the 2014 version with 2 face plates, all the problems you see here exist on the original, back then Hot Toys didn't do Star Wars so this was the best we got, to answer your question through 2014 eyes, I disliked this figure even from back then, the joints are not well thought out, the big balls on the ankles were the first sign they didn't care about aesthetics or mechanics. But it seems like the joints on this copy are more loose than usual. Back then the big question was "can he hunch" and some clever people modded his neck to be able to do that. I tried to warn people about the original release when they announced this reissue but they said "oh but Sideshow made improvements, they said so."
Kinda worried I have the Michael Myers and Leatherface horror figures coming in and I hope they put more love and effort into those new pieces than they did in this. They had another chance and blew it. For shame

Just came from the recording of live stream where Danoby called bs on people posting pictures complaining about this new issue is the exact same shit from 2014. Disappointed about joints but this gives me the opportunity of owning Grievous without paying eBay price so it is a keeper nonetheless.
Bought this way back.. It's cool, I guess. Sideshow ALWAYS leaves alot to be desired with their releases. The newer 3rd party, unlisenced companies (We all know the ones) are blowing them right out of the water in terms of Quality, Accessories and Presentation. The ONLY release they have that really stands out is the Magneto release. It's almost perfect.
Great honest review. Just as i expected,Shiteshow have screwed up again and blatantly lied to us all, new improved joints etc etc etc etc!! There is no excuse, they have had years to try and correct the many issues with this figure.Keep your money and wait for Hot Toys to release their version, i say exercise patience it will be so worth it in the long run and then you won't be stuck with a figure that no one wants once the Hot Toys version is released.
Yeh, i have the exact same problem. It s a floppy mess and frustrating to say the least, but on a picture or on a shelf, It's still general grievous.... 😶
They even tried to take new photos in order to make it look better, but it’s the exact same sculpt from 2014. The least they can do is remove the awful ball joints that stick out like a sore thumb...

Also i have a bunch of Black joints from other Star Wars figures i may try to use but if not then the poster tack stuff will be the way to go ... again i appreciate you doing this .. sincerely from Dave F.

@Star Killer i will be doing that mod when mine arrives ( if it' not broken ) when i video opening the shipper .. 3D printing would make a better suggestion .. or custom steel ball sockets ( someone could make money if they have the equipment ) if mine is just the usual loose arms ( all SS bodies are loose ) i will keep it and mod the crap out of it ... ;)
That’s too bad the joints are weak. Sideshow really need to spend more time/money on r&d. I can’t say for sure it would work for this figure but i use this stuff I found on eBay called “Kiki, fix loose joints” and it helps a lot. I use it on just about any figure and it’s always improved the friction.
I love the pose at the end. I don't care what anybody says I absolutely love this Grievous!!! I had the original exclusive release but unfortunately had to sell it. So when they announce this I was very happy. Would've preferred a Hot Toys one. I'd have to say this is Sideshows best 1/6th scale figure. Yeah he has issues with getting loose after time but there's ways around to like that puddy you used or Kiki joint hardener but it's not like glue it's just for loose joints it goes on like glue. Warts and all I love this figure. The only thing about the sculpt I don't like is his chest plates are not movie accurate they should be almost touching and able to move like pecks. I don't really need to see his organs. I'm still praying Hot Toys will release one. Sooner rather then later. Look at Hot Toys and Sideshows Luke in Jedi and Scout troopers announced and or released at the same time. It could happen. Well have to wait and see.
@@Danoby2 what helps a lot with this Grievous and I would highly recommend to everybody is buy him a dynamic stand and some Museum putty. You can get some crazy poses out of him with the Dynamic stand and he isn't going anywhere. And the museum putty is great if his arms get loose it's kind of like Silly Putty take a little chunk off put it in the hole let's stick to Peg in it and it will tighten the arm right off. Museum putty is also reusable and will not harm the figure and it's also good for using on many many other things not just 1/6 scale figures you can use it for almost anything.
This feels like they had the castings and shit to make this figure again and said "fuck it just rerun it again before we get rid of everything to make a quick buck". At least you are actually trying to fix the problems and show people who bought into this.
The double standard here is nothing short of baffling. A person who absolutely lambasts Hottoys for the smallest of stuff goes on to make a 22 min apology video on behalf of sideshow for a figure that simply breaks down if you even look at it. No wonder SS gets away with all the crap it does cause people like Danoby simply take their shit and a spin on it like "it is what it is" heck he even gets to such extreme lengths to fix this turd and waste his time. Is HT made a figure that broke down with just a wiggle of the arm this man would be demanding Howard Chan's head. Toxic nationalism at its best.
What a floppy mess. Sideshow burned me with the Jango Fett figure. I learned my lesson and I can’t bring myself to ever pick up another figure from them until they put in some serious quality control.

Im i the only one who thinks that the face and "audioreceptors" of slideshow's Grievous is a little weird? I mean look at him and at bandai's Grievous and then look at the original design from the movie. I can't understand how at such a big scale they made him look that weird

it is literally the first release they just had more in storage, put it in a new box, added a new cape and charged a extra $40

if seeing all the figures faults will annoy you then send it back because they will only get worse.
Was going to be my first sideshow product, Grievous is my favorite Star Wars character and was waiting for it to come back. Had it preordered but saw this and some other early reviews and for that price I am super disappointed. Thankfully contacted them and got my deposit back and order cancelled. Super bummed.
I bought this because it was on sale and I love General Grevious - unfortunately, I had the same issues as you did. This is terrible in comparison with my 1/6 Scout Trooper (which was a great product in my very limited experience). Considering I had to pay shipping, duties, and would have to pay shipping again to send it back....I'm just gonna keep it and never move it, I guess :( Good review Danoby, thank you!
Highlight for me: when you presented the 2014 date under the base. 😂 Shame. My Ban Dai Gundam model has better joints and articulation than this. Thank you for your honest review.
Appreciate your honest review and your tips to try to help collectors see the positives in this 2014 reissue. I canceled my PO as it’s too much money to spend on such a flimsy cheaply made figure IMO. I was excited when it was first announced but after concerns nothing was improved and that unboxing nightmare they had, made me want to use my money elsewhere. I’m ok with not having a GG in my collection. Wish they were a bit more forthcoming with what this release really was. That’s my main factor with canceling. As always great review and nice highlighting of the good and bad with this figure. 👍🏽
Great video, thanks for sharing your findings. I have the 2014 version with 2 face plates, all the problems you see here exist on the original, back then Hot Toys didn't do Star Wars so this was the best we got, to answer your question through 2014 eyes, I disliked this figure even from back then, the joints are not well thought out, the big balls on the ankles were the first sign they didn't care about aesthetics or mechanics. But it seems like the joints on this copy are more loose than usual. Back then the big question was "can he hunch" and some clever people modded his neck to be able to do that. I tried to warn people about the original release when they announced this reissue but they said "oh but Sideshow made improvements, they said so."

Kinda worried I have the Michael Myers and Leatherface horror figures coming in and I hope they put more love and effort into those new pieces than they did in this. They had another chance and blew it. For shame
Mine was broken right out of the box. And the arms were so loose it could not hold in position. Going to return it for a full refund. And I hate the boxes they ship in Leaves no room Against damage.
I have the same problems with mine, do I get a full refund or not having general grievous at all. It’s hard to reward such poor quality with my hard earned money. But I still haven’t decided

Just came from the recording of live stream where Danoby called bs on people posting pictures complaining about this new issue is the exact same shit from 2014. Disappointed about joints but this gives me the opportunity of owning Grievous without paying eBay price so it is a keeper nonetheless.

Bought this way back.. It's cool, I guess. Sideshow ALWAYS leaves alot to be desired with their releases. The newer 3rd party, unlisenced companies (We all know the ones) are blowing them right out of the water in terms of Quality, Accessories and Presentation. The ONLY release they have that really stands out is the Magneto release. It's almost perfect.

Great honest review. Just as i expected,Shiteshow have screwed up again and blatantly lied to us all, new improved joints etc etc etc etc!! There is no excuse, they have had years to try and correct the many issues with this figure.Keep your money and wait for Hot Toys to release their version, i say exercise patience it will be so worth it in the long run and then you won't be stuck with a figure that no one wants once the Hot Toys version is released.

Yeh, i have the exact same problem. It s a floppy mess and frustrating to say the least, but on a picture or on a shelf, It's still general grievous.... 😶

They even tried to take new photos in order to make it look better, but it’s the exact same sculpt from 2014. The least they can do is remove the awful ball joints that stick out like a sore thumb...
Thank You So Much For Doing This @Danoby2 i heard that if you contact SS CS and decide to keep it they will offer a $30 gift card ( for pain and suffering ) and also if you look really close at the "updated" cape you will notice a ( mickey mouse ) as the clasp for the cape .. hmmmm is that what they meant by updated cape? ... i think i will keep mine when it arrives "hopefully not broken" and ask for the $30 in giftcard .. Also i have a bunch of Black joints from other Star Wars figures i may try to use but if not then the poster tack stuff will be the way to go ... again i appreciate you doing this .. sincerely from Dave F.

@Star Killer i will be doing that mod when mine arrives ( if it' not broken ) when i video opening the shipper .. 3D printing would make a better suggestion .. or custom steel ball sockets ( someone could make money if they have the equipment ) if mine is just the usual loose arms ( all SS bodies are loose ) i will keep it and mod the crap out of it ... ;)
That’s too bad the joints are weak. Sideshow really need to spend more time/money on r&d. I can’t say for sure it would work for this figure but i use this stuff I found on eBay called “Kiki, fix loose joints” and it helps a lot. I use it on just about any figure and it’s always improved the friction.
I love the pose at the end. I don't care what anybody says I absolutely love this Grievous!!! I had the original exclusive release but unfortunately had to sell it. So when they announce this I was very happy. Would've preferred a Hot Toys one. I'd have to say this is Sideshows best 1/6th scale figure. Yeah he has issues with getting loose after time but there's ways around to like that puddy you used or Kiki joint hardener but it's not like glue it's just for loose joints it goes on like glue. Warts and all I love this figure. The only thing about the sculpt I don't like is his chest plates are not movie accurate they should be almost touching and able to move like pecks. I don't really need to see his organs. I'm still praying Hot Toys will release one. Sooner rather then later. Look at Hot Toys and Sideshows Luke in Jedi and Scout troopers announced and or released at the same time. It could happen. Well have to wait and see.
I guess as long as your happy with the final product, that's all that matters. :)
@@Danoby2 what helps a lot with this Grievous and I would highly recommend to everybody is buy him a dynamic stand and some Museum putty. You can get some crazy poses out of him with the Dynamic stand and he isn't going anywhere. And the museum putty is great if his arms get loose it's kind of like Silly Putty take a little chunk off put it in the hole let's stick to Peg in it and it will tighten the arm right off. Museum putty is also reusable and will not harm the figure and it's also good for using on many many other things not just 1/6 scale figures you can use it for almost anything.
This feels like they had the castings and shit to make this figure again and said "fuck it just rerun it again before we get rid of everything to make a quick buck". At least you are actually trying to fix the problems and show people who bought into this.

Hot Toys made a John Wick 2 figure and he's excellent. Lots of well crafted and detailed firearms to go with him.

The double standard here is nothing short of baffling. A person who absolutely lambasts Hottoys for the smallest of stuff goes on to make a 22 min apology video on behalf of sideshow for a figure that simply breaks down if you even look at it. No wonder SS gets away with all the crap it does cause people like Danoby simply take their shit and a spin on it like "it is what it is" heck he even gets to such extreme lengths to fix this turd and waste his time. Is HT made a figure that broke down with just a wiggle of the arm this man would be demanding Howard Chan's head. Toxic nationalism at its best.
What a floppy mess. Sideshow burned me with the Jango Fett figure. I learned my lesson and I can’t bring myself to ever pick up another figure from them until they put in some serious quality control.
And you were so persistent in all different theories on Geekin Out stream except that fact that SS screwed this one up. Looks funny now.

Just got mine today. Absolutely pathetic release. Will be returning, can not believe the state of this. I got to left arms, quality of joints is awful, my eyes weren't painted right. Unacceptable at this price point.
Oh and I forgot they didn't give me a freaking base!!

Im i the only one who thinks that the face and "audioreceptors" of slideshow's Grievous is a little weird? I mean look at him and at bandai's Grievous and then look at the original design from the movie. I can't understand how at such a big scale they made him look that weird

Dude it's not a matter of returning it to the kitchen, I'd be pissed. This is not expectable, this looks like something you would get in a model kit, for like 80 dollars. Like a snap and click kit .. I am sad for you! But also thankfully that you did this so I don't have to. I'll wait for the hot toys version, I'd rather not have one then be disappointed and waist my money?
