Great Series. You mention that you can add an email or snippet of an email to a QuickNote. That works fine. But if I then move the email to a different folder, say Archives, Notes can no longer open it. Error message "Failed to Open Message" If I use the drag and drop approach of an email to a Note or a Quicknote, moving the email doesn't affect it; Notes will still open it. Is that just the way it is, or is there a setting or something I'm missing?
Thank you for explaining the notes app. Very helpful. But. I started scanning some documents into a folder and the files are huge for no reason. Do you know how to fix this to reduce the sizes. The documents are just pictures of recipe cards. Thanks
One of the problems with scanning images and taking pictures with the iPhone is that the iPhone takes absolutely massive photos, creating all sorts of storage and size issues when realistically you just want a simple picture. As I discuss in this video (th-cam.com/video/VCeKovPCm0I/w-d-xo.html) I don't generally recommend attachments if there's another way to do it. Scanning the text rather than scanning the image will give you a more editable note for that recipe, without all the size. If you are going to either take pictures or "scan documents" from your phone into notes, you should just be prepared for them to be large files. It's due to the powerful cameras on our phones, and the size of those images. Notes doesn't have a way to adjust that size yet. If you scan them from a computer, we can adjust the size... but not from the phone without changing your quality settings in the camera.
Have you ever noticed that the Note to PDF conversion function does not preserve the original formatting contained in the note in the newly created PDF? Particularly when using bulleted lists and tabs to create structure. Wondering how or if you’ve been able to get around this issue? Thanks, I’ve really enjoyed your thoughtful and highly informative videos!
You know I don't export my notes to PDFs very often because I really don't need that functionality. I use notes in their native format on all of my devices. It's a rarity that I need to send them to somebody who isn't on an Apple device. I have exported from the computer and found it to be almost perfect, from the phone it's a little less perfect... but certainly workable. I'll do a little bit of research and see if I can help you out beyond that.
Hi Dylan, another fantastic and well explained video. Thank you! 😁 I’d say that I absolutely love Notes and largely thanks to you and your videos I stopped using other note taking apps and have made Notes as my ONLY note taking app, I still use Pages for word processing but not that often now. I’m proud to a be a member of the MacWhisperer Academy through TH-cam for now but I will definitely sign up for a membership through your website but this option suits me best for now. Keep up the amazing work you do! 😁

I guess my first question is why are you trying to do that. People have a tendency to take photos and images off of their phone and computer to save storage space, rather than just adding additional iCloud storage space so that they have all their pictures in one place. Over the 20 years that I've been doing this, most of my clients that stuck photos on DVDs or flash drives have lost those DVDs and flash drives and been frustrated they can't find the pictures they used to have. I keep all of my pictures in the library synced across all of my devices through the cloud, and can't even imagine exporting a handful of them onto some external device and hoping to keep track of that 10 to 15 years into the future. There are third-party devices that can allow you to do that that will plug directly into your phone. Or if you have a computer it's easy to export them. If you only have the phone it's a little complicated, and those third-party devices may be your best solution. But I urge you to consider other options first, especially if the problem is that you have run out of iCloud storage space and just don't want to buy more. And if the reason to put them on a flash drive is to share them with someone, comment just share them directly from the Photos app and let them put them onto a flash drive, their computer, or the cloud. Just my thoughts.... certainly not anything more than an opinion.
A question about chatting with one specific collaborator out of a group within a note that might be a group planning an event, do your comments to each other also appear to the others in the group? I’m hoping you’ll tell me that it remains private and that others in the group will only see it if you specifically added them? For example you might ask Julie “Should we invite Ryan’s girlfriend?” But you might not want Ryan to see the question or answer even though he’s in the collaborating group.
It's easy to get the link if you are sharing the note by clicking on the manage share note button at the top, and you will see the link. If it's not a shared note, it's harder to get the link... What task app are you using? If you use reminders, you can click the share button to automatically create a link. Depending on your app, you may also be able to do it the same way. Unfortunately, notes don't always create accessible links unless it's a shared note. So we may have to find a workaround to get it to whatever your task app is, or we can get you to move over to reminders as a task app, and that will solve it.
@@TheMacWhisperer My task manager is Omnifocus. With Evernote I have no problems. I copy the link and attach it to the Omnifocus note field, just click on the note field and the note opens.
Is there a way to share a note to an event in Apple Calendar? I use Notes to prepare for my meetings (via a template) and would like to link the note to the meeting event. I tried to share / collaborate the note to myself, copy the link and entered into the “URL” field of the Calendar event. When clicking on the link in the event, the note does not open.
You can't really do it that way, but if you export the note as a PDF, and if you use iCloud for your calendaring service, you can set up the appointment with an alert that will pull up an attachment of the PDF before the meeting. That'll make it easy. (watch this video for more information about that: th-cam.com/video/rB4yLsFKInA/w-d-xo.html) One of the other things that you can do is create a Siri shortcut that takes a note, copies its content, and pastes it into the note of the event, but that's not nearly as efficient.

I’m always afraid that a collaborator will delete information as they edit (not everyone is adept at Notes) Can I recover and find all deletions?

very good presentation

Did you learn anything you'd like to share?
How do I get the link of the note to insert for example in my task app?
