It would be egg on face to them. I doubt Apple would do this, but what a feasible option would be, is to have the old photos app available free in the Apple Store.
@@steveh7216It might be egg on apples face. But this could cost them millions. Photos is one of the most used apps and it's a mess. It was quite easy to use for lightroom and now it's awful. I certainly won't be buying another apple product. And I hear others saying the same. I have never seen so many negative comments about one thing, which shows something is wrong.
Let's just be clear, Apple will never admit that they are wrong, they never have and they never will. The customization tools that have been added to this update are really powerful if you take the time to use them. Of course, many people will complain and shake their fists at the stars hoping that Apple will change. I'll take that same energy and make this photos update absolutely perfect for me. It's just up to where you want to put the energy. Lastly, if you get more specific about what you hate, we can probably solve it. If you look at the comments on this video, I've helped a lot of people come to the realization that it's not that bad and they can make it work in some cases better than the prior update. But just throwing your hands up and saying I hate it doesn't give us anything to work with. How about you tell me what you miss from the old version and let's see if we can restore it?
@@TheMacWhisperermy number 1 complaint for this new Photos app is when I go to Slideshow, I cannot see my entire photos anymore! This is terrible. Is there a way to fix this?
It used to be simple and easy to use, now they made it complicated. The point of this app is to easily view your photos, all of it without needing to organize, stop making it complicated.
Well… too bad that Steve is dead: he would have vomited that! Now how can you synchronize with a Mac that has older Photo software? Did they thought about that? Or worse: did they made that greedily to sell more new Macs?
Many thanks. I used to hate the new update but modifying the app as I watched your video things became a lot clearer. I think I need to watch again a few times though as there is a lot to take in.
I'm sorry to hear that. I know a lot of people feel that way, but if you can be specific about what you dislike, in most cases it can be customized and the problems can be resolved. Hating it with your whole heart is never going to accomplish anything, and Apple is never going to change it back. Never.
@@TheMacWhisperer stop it with your propaganda the problem can't be resolved it not gonna be like it was and that's what we want ,it not gonna be exactly like it was like you're trying to portray it Will yeah you can move stuff around but it's not the same and people don't like it and they never will like it and that's OK , just stop it trying to force people to your perspective
They're never going to put it back to the way it was. Better to learn how to use it and master it. With a little work most people have found a way to set it up to their preferences. What do you miss about the old way?
@@TheMacWhisperer well they'll just have to lose customer see Apple is turned to crap they're not any better than anybody else now , so we have a lot of choices out there that's just as good if not better then iPhone
Tips are good but it still a disaster. They ruined a great app just so they keep busy and can have corporate meetings and pay employees. Sometimes you don't need to make improvements if it is a mature product.
I don't know that I agree with you. I think change is good, and I think most people never really learned how to use the app in the first place - we're constantly fumbling around trying to find things. Power users like you and I can figure out our way through whatever UI a company creates because we understand where things should be and how to make sense of the things that aren't that way... But for the average person, the more places you give them to look, the more complicated it becomes. Having separate tabs for albums and library and "For You" and Search made it complicated for a lot of people. Now there's one place to go and you can customize it to give it whatever tools you want and remove the ones you don't need... For the average person, they should remove 75% of the collections, but for us power users, we can customize it to use every piece of it and find what you're looking for quickly... Not saying that every change is good, but in this case I was really concerned until I dug in and learned how to use it and now I'm starting to love it, and really don't want to go back. The last thing I will say is that if you look at the old app compared to the new app, there's really not that much that's different. They just streamlined it. So by looking at the older version, you may realize there are things that you don't like about it too. Don't have nostalgia for it just because it's gone. Embrace the new.
You're not alone... but with a little bit of work, almost everyone I've talked to has been able to set it up the way they like. What are you missing? What are you wishing you had from before? At this point, I don't even think about or remember the old version, and whenever I'm working on it, it feels clunky... I know people are averse to change and really want things to stay the way they were for the rest of their lives... but Apple has been changing things since 1980, and I really doubt they're going to stop now. You can't revert it; we might as well learn how to make it work. If you tell me what your big pain point is or what you're struggling with, I may be able to give you some tools that will fix it. For most people, the customization tools allow you to make it much more what you like (opposed to the way Apple presented it before, which was their way or the highway). Now it's your way... if you take the time to make it that way.
It is a great start but it needs more. They NEED to allow you to go into an album and select not to show those photos in the main view. No, I am not talking about putting them in the hidden folder. I am talking about making them visible only in their own, regular album. In the main view, there is no indication of which photo has been added to an album. Without those two things, the main view is doomed to be a complete mess.
Yes , you just answered my question. I texted that you can’t close your album. But the replay l hot was for 1 pic. I just feel that all the business is by in full view. 👍🔥thanks
Even with all these tips, which are genuinely useful, this update is still a huge step backwards. Pointless, unnecessarily fussy - even with these changes - and now a reasonably good app trashed for the sake of change. What a shame.
THANK YOU. I hate when Apple decides to change something that I’ve had a certain way for YEARS. Now my way of finding old recipes in a screenshot or scrolling from bottom-up is now scrolling top-down, albums and screenshots are hidden behind a TON of useless clutter, and everything is weird and unfamiliar. I appreciate you walking me through how to make it a little more familiar again. If it ain’t broke, DON’T TOUCH MY PHONE please 😫😫 I didn’t ask for this, but now I’m stuck having to adjust to it because there’s no “revert to old style” option.
Hi. Is there a way to make the photos & videos appear full-screen when you initially open them? I know they can be full-screen size once you touch the screen ... but if you try to pause or fast-forward, the photo/video will revert back to the smaller size. So annoying! Please help :)
This is the worst change that they made to the photos app and I thought that in this video he was gonna teach us a workaround in this matter. panorama.
This is an issue that I've just heard from multiple people in the last couple of days, and I am trying to see whether Apple has a solution for it. At the moment, it looks like it keeps dropping back to the smaller size. I will let you know if I figure out a workaround.
I understand how divisive this app update is. Whether or not you like it, this is the new Photos app. I wasn't going to teach you a workaround, I was going to show you how to use it. If your concern is the same as Jeanny my answer is the same. I will try and get information about how to keep videos in full screen when you pause or fast-forward... it's not something I do very often, so it's not something I've run into, but now that I'm aware of it I'll see if I can find a solution.
Absolutely, and bring back the Newton too. And while we are at it bring back the click wheel ipos and AppleWorks! The reality is things change, Aperture was just an okay program... it had a ton of problems. iPhoto was just okay too... Photos is also just okay, let's figure out how to make it work. What are you struggling with, and how can we solve it? I'm not interested in wishing for the past to return... that's never going to happen! I'm more interested in figuring out how to build a better tomorrow.
When you are a senior change is difficult. It is hard to retain information. Not only have they changed the photos, they have also changed all the settings, making it even more difficult to deal with what you want to change. Like I’m in tears it’s so frustrating. I need to use iPhoto for my business so I have no choice but to deal with this. It is very frustrating. I would like to get rid of the new space at the bottom of the photos. I tried to deal with the customize and reorder, however I now have new things in that bottom space, things I don’t need to see or deal with. So although you say it’s wrong to hate it, please consider the learning curve it takes for seniors to deal with these type of things.
I absolutely understand that change is difficult (not just for older people but for everyone) but Apple is hardwired for change. Apple has been changing things since the 80s, and I don’t expect them to stop now. Many people have used the Photos app in a particular way for a long time, and these new tools once mastered can make it even easier… But you definitely need to adjust some of your habits to take full advantage of it. I’m not saying hate it or don’t hate it… I’m just letting you know that this is the new App, and Apple won’t go backwards so we have to adjust. I remember when Apple first released the Photos app about a decade ago, replacing eye photo… And I heard all the same complaints about Apple changing things. But the benefits of photos have far out shined the challenge of learning how to do it. The synchronization tools the ability to Recognize people and places, and the options of accessing the separate collections and albums quickly are a huge benefit. I’m sorry you’re struggling, but maybe you can give me some more specifics about the things you don’t want to see and we can talk about some of the tools so that you only see what you’re looking for. Lastly, I recognize that the single biggest change in the Photos app that is causing the most problem is the lack of a “camera roll“ capability. The camera roll was used by a lot of people (since I use Apple photos and sync across multiple devices I haven’t used the camera roll in years, but I know I’m in the minority here) . If your biggest issue is the lack of the camera roll let’s talk about how and why you were using the camera roll and let’s find some ways to change the way you’re doing things to make it automatically easier for you. I’m sorry you’re frustrated, and I know it’s hard… But the best way out is always through.
WOW - it's almost like they want it to be easy, but forget to tell us HOW TO make it easy! THANK GOOOOOODNESS for the MACWHISPERER!!!!! Thank you Dylan!!! I see it!
Thank you sooo very much for that video - I left Apple for 7 months, my Dad bought me Samsung s24 Ultra for astro photography ... and apart from that it is slightly mweh overall. Therefore, I ordered iPhone 16Pro and then I saw iOS 18 Gallery on my Dad's iPhone... I was overwhelmed and panicked. Your video calmly explained what I will have to be doing when the phone arrives, in order to make it usable for me.
I frequently photograph crosswords to fill in (with my finger) on the photos app. With the iOS 18 update they have introduced a predictive text that activates each time a couple of letters are written, randomly locating letters and joining them. It is incredibly annoying. Can I turn it off???
Thank you so much for your video. I’ll be watching it later with my husband with our phones so that we can figure out how to explain to my 91 year-old mother-in-law how to find her pictures because this is the change. That’s really hard. I’ll adjust but for her change is much harder
I followed along with my phone while watching this video several times - and customized it. Piece of cake now, pretty much. Would still be in the dark and hating this new App without. Game changer. Thanks
I love it! The truth of Apple software has always been the same: if you just walk in knowing nothing you can do about 10%, but when someone shows you where to go and what the true options are, you can really maximize every piece of it. Great Job!
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been putting off my update to iOS 18 because so many people have been complaining about stuff like the new Photos app… But after seeing your video, if anything, I feel like this makes the Photos app even more powerful! A lot of people don’t like change it would seem, but sometimes in order to move forward, you have to tear up the rulebook and start again. Embrace the new, or get left behind! Apple ain’t moving back to the old app, so we need to get used to it. I’m off to update my iPhone! Thanks again!
I hate this, it’s a disaster. I want my photos arranged vertically not horizontally. They are also too small so I can’t see them properly at first glance.
If you spread out the photos in the Photo Library, you can arrange them so that you see them much larger and even have them show only one at a time, making it fully vertical. It's completely customizable. Make sure you go into the Photo Library and pinch and spread to make it the way you like. Everyone wants to hate it, everyone wants to call it a disaster. But you couldn't change that setting on the prior version, and you can now. So to me that's progress.
@@TheMacWhisperer when I go to photos (on my iPad) I’m hit with wall of small photos arranged horizontally. In the previous version, they were arranged vertically and were much easier to see at a glance. I didn’t need to do anything to make them larger. There is no option to make them vertical. So this is not actually progress, it’s changing something that was workable and adequate to something more complicated - and quite irritating.
How do I get my recent photos back to the top? The way they used to be viewed? I do not like the way they are being viewed after 18.11 update. Please help
Why do I feel like when u click in the photo it’s not filling the full screen like it used to? Even when you tap on it ? And I hate tapping on it to view it bigger every time. Is there a way to fix this ? To view photo and video full screen without needing to tap on that file each time like we used to ?
On Monday, when iOS 18.2 is released, that glitch will be fixed, and it will now open full screen like it used to. This was a mistake in the programming, and after the update on Monday, it will be resolved.
i wish i had the option to go back to 17 because if i wanted all this crap i would get a android style phone. they took simple and showed that you can take what worked awesome and pretty flawless to just a big disastrous mess. its almost worth jailbreaking the phone to revert back to a much better operation ios.
I hear you, and I understand your frustration. I’ve also seen Apple make major changes like this many times in the past… In most cases although it is hard to learn the new tools when they’re released shortly thereafter they become second nature. You can certainly go to an android phone or jailbreak your phone, but you’re not gonna have an easy way to go to iOS 17 and you’ll miss the options of later updates and upgrades that fix and refine these tools. I live by the credo that change is good, and learning how to use the new tools will in the long run benefit you even though right now it feels frustrating. When Apple first replaced the iPhoto app on our phone with the new Photos app people rebelled, rioted, promised to go to android, and complained. Several years later they refined the Photos app to such an extent that people are fighting to keep it… Apple will keep changing, if you learn the functions and tools before long you may not even miss the old app. I know I don’t.
I wish they’d let you make an album and then be able to delete the album photos from your library without deleting them from the album as well. (If that makes sense)
It does make sense, and that's exactly what I want as well. I want to be able to move a photo from the library to an album, not copy it. Photos is awful.
@ yes it would tidy up and reduce the photo library if you could delete photos once you’ve put them in an album, especially if like me you have hundreds of photos and screenshots in your library. I did read somewhere though that having the same photos in both library and albums doesn’t mean you’re using up extra memory/megabytes, so at least that’s something. I wish that they’d left it all alone though as I can’t find photos etc easily now. They’re all over the place.
@@TheMacWhispererNot yet, there’s so much content for a seemingly simple app, it’ll take a few more views, and practice, but I can see already I’ m going to have a much more productive and enjoyable time sifting through my photos. ThanX
I do not like the photo upgrade on ios 18. Can I downgrade it to my prior IOS? Or can I not see the library pictures. I have all those pictures in my albums and do not need to see it again in the library ( I only want to see my camera roll). Any suggestions ???
I get this question a lot. I haven't used the camera roll in a decade, so I'm surprised that so many people are missing it. The camera roll and the library are not meant to be the same thing. The library is meant to have all of your photos so that you can see everything in one place, and by putting it into albums and folders, you can quickly access it in sections. What I recommend doing is going into the photo library and clicking the two arrows in the bottom left-hand corner. Then click on the filter and change it from "All Items" to "Favorites" or something else so that it's not overwhelming you. You're not going to be able to replicate the camera roll exactly because it's a flawed system for most people, but you can eliminate the things you don't want to show by having it only show your favorites or only specific sections of your library.
@@TheMacWhisperer Great suggestion !! Thank you !! That will solve the problem of me seeing over 4k pictures (since I already put them into albums). So it will only show the pictures that I did not file away, which make it easier for me.
I have low vision. Thus it is easier for me to see photos on my iPad than my iPhone. With ios18 a shared album I have from friends in Germany only appears on my iPhone. It used to be on both. How do I fix this? Thx
There are a couple of settings that could be in the way here. Make sure that your Apple ID is the same on both devices and that under iCloud > Photos is turned on in both places. Then go into Settings, Apps, Photos, and confirm that Shared Albums are turned on for the iPad. If all of that is done properly and you go directly to the Shared Albums section on the iPad, you should see it (it may just not be showing up high enough on the list for you to locate it). It tends to put the albums that have been changed the most recently towards the top and it may just be out of sight. If you're still not finding it, let me know and I'll make a couple of other suggestions to get it to work.
Thanks for the very informative video. I was ready to ask why when I go to albums , it’s not showing all the ones that are on the ipad . But when you showed about pinning stuff, I pinned albums and they were all there. You’re worth subscribing too, which I’ve done.
Thanks for your customizing tips, but the one thing you didn’t cover was how to enlarge the albums cover photos. I have over 100 albums and knew exactly where each one was, but now with the pictures being so ridiculously small and out of the order I put them in, I can’t see them to know what album is what. How can I enlarge the cover photos for the albums? Can you help me?
I am about to upgrade my iPhone 14 io iOS 18. I dread the new photo management system. In my current iOS 17, I have organized certain photos into different “events.” Note that these are not separate “albums” but are separate “events.” Will these show up in this organized way automatically when I switch to iOS 18?
Events is something that was used in the old iPhoto system, but they no longer exist and haven't for a long time. Are you sure they are "events", not albums? Those were an iPhoto organizational tool and have not been around for years. I guess I need more info. Does the current phone/computer see them as events or as albums? And where do they show up?
One thing that sends me over is the way a video looks when you play it. If i click it to skip literally every control on the planet pops up. I don't want the video unzoomed either with a giant bar in the middle it's so frustrating
I’m so glad to hear it. Most people resist what they don’t know and don’t understand, and sometimes the changes can be more beneficial than what people saw on the initial glance. Let me know if you need any other help with other topics.
Specific reasons why I'm so angry at this update: They assumed that I wanted to change the organization of my photos and I did not. The albums are harder to find. I did a "search" for my photos using the captions I had made. The phone could not find my clearly labeled photos! Why did they have to add a filter section? We already had the choice of finding them by videos or other categories. We already had the option of searching by days, next to the month and years why do they have to clog up the photos with more of those? & I don't need them to curate my photos and make 1 bigger. Now it takes twice as long to find the settings and poke around to find those hidden buttons at the bottom, when it was SO simple before!!
I have played around with this new way of photos and understand exactly what you’ve shared. What I really need to know is how to get my photos to view from top to bottom. I don’t like going bottom to top. Anyone please help me fix this. It’s driving me nuts.
It’s easy to get to favourites, but awfully hard to get back to All Items. The little icon above the word Library disappears once in favourites , making it HARD to switch back to (all) Photos. It sucks switching viewing options.
Editing photos is really easy. When you click on the photo on the bottom, you will see an icon on the right that looks like Settings. Its to thr right of the heart and the "i". Clicking on that will open up the editing mode. They changed the icon, but the capability is still the same.
Thank you very much for this clear and extremely useful tutorial. Sincere compliments for the clear and systematic way in which the tutorial is structured. Even for non-English speakers, your tutorials are always easy to follow and use. I am already much happier with the new photo app now that I have understood the structure.
That's a WhatsApp issue. There's a section of WhatsApp that dumps those pictures into your photo library automatically. If you turn that off from settings in WhatsApp, they won't show up here.
The photo edit features (changing color to text, or objects) opens and closes and does not allow me to change the color. Completely ruined the photo editing feature.
When I search, I can’t zoom in or out and it’s driving me crazy. If I search something that I have a ton of pictures of, I can only scroll through the tiny thumbnails (50 on the screen) or the each individual full-sized photo (would take forever). I just want to be able to zoom in to see ~15 medium-sized pics on the screen at once, but if I try pinching, it just opens whatever photo that’s between my fingers! And I can’t manually change the view (while in search) either. I’m so frustrated
Help please i clicked on red minus ones before finding your video now they are all (hundreds of 9:02 ) in recently deleted how can i get them back thanks i dont know if ill get option to restore them before they ate gone for good
If you go into the recently deleted section and click on the select button and the upper right hand corner you can then click on the three dots in the bottom right to recover all of your accidentally deleted photos. They will be put back into your library with just a simpleclick.
Thanks for the great information. Totally hated it with all the new stuff, but after watching, see the possibilities of its offerings and just need to play with it to see. Was afraid to explore it not sure if I'd accidentally delete something.
I'm not sure what you mean by that. Can you ask it in a different way? Are you referencing how the photos look in the photos view? If so, you can pinch and spread to change that view, or click on a specific photo and then swipe to get to the next photo or the previous photo. If I'm not answering the right question, please ask it again.
I think it’s down at the bottom of each picture, beside the bin. It’s 3 arrows, going in different directions. Well not exactly arrows, more like straight lines with a tiny circle in each line.
The iCloud Shared Photo Library is such a great tool! My wife and I love it! It makes it so easy for us to share our pictures with each other. It's one of the next videos I'll be creating.
Absolutely, just open the albums collection, press and hold on any album and drag it into the position you want. You can also use folders to organize those albums. If you want more information about how to organize your photo library check out this video:th-cam.com/video/qw7xdTfwXkg/w-d-xo.html
Super helpful thanks. I haven’t updated yet, I have a couple of Q’s. 1). Is there an option for showing only some of the screenshots in the photo library? I tend to currently hide most screenshots from my camera roll but not all of them. It seems like this update only has the option to see all or hide all in the library. 2). Do Hidden photos show up in Albums now? Following on from above this was one reason I have some things like screenshots not hidden, because when they are hidden you can’t put them into albums as they don’t show up unless you unhide them. I have things I don’t want visible in the general camera roll (now called library) but I want to see them in specific albums. These could be screenshots or photos for specific projects that I don’t want cluttered around my personal photos.
Actually, they just moved it. If you click the 'Select' button in the upper-right-hand corner and then click the three dots in the lower-right-hand corner, you can choose 'Delete all' or 'Recover all' instead.
I'll definitely miss having specific tabs to jump to that are static at the bottom of the screen, I feel like having a static "site-map" type of thing with library, albums, search, for you was the most efficient part of the app as it was
I really like the ability to put the things I need and use the most in an order that is different from how Apple positioned them. You can still make it a static sitemap the way you're looking for, but it's on one page and organized to your preference rather than haphazardly. It's a little bit of a different way to do things, but once you use it for a little while it becomes second nature. And by far the best part of this new update is the pinned collections section, which can give you instant access to your most important albums, people, events, folders, and more.
If you go into the albums collection, and click on it, it will open up a screen where you can press and hold to drag your albums and folders into the order you’d like.
Find your album collection and then click on the title at the top. That will open it into its own window. Then, in the upper right-hand corner, there is a 'Create' button that will allow you to create a new album or a new folder.
All I want to know is if I will still have all the albums that *I* created myself. Or do those disappear? Are they replaced by A.I. albums that decide how to group them for me?
All the albums you created are still there. You can locate them in the Album section of the photo library. AI does not create or group photos for you… It can create memories but that’s all. Everything else is all done by you or some basic Apple photos tools that have been around for a while.
That’s not the way the photo library works. The photo library is all of your pictures no matter where you put them… The albums allow you to create subsections of the library to find specific things easily. But it does not remove them from your entire library… This is done intentionally so that you can have the same photo and multiple albums if you like. For example a picture of Christmas could be in a Christmas album, as as well as in an album of you and your loved ones. This is really helpful since it can allow you to create multiple different ways to find specific pictures without having to make duplicates of those pictures. I know this is a different way of thinking than most people think about their photo library… But I’ve been using photos for 20 years, and if my pictures disappeared from the main library would make it almost impossible for me to find pictures when I’m looking by date. I don’t always want to look in the album, sometimes I just need to see the pictures from last week… Even though I’ve already filed and sorted them. On the computer this allows a really powerful function with smart albums… On the computer you can create a smart album where the rule is that the picture has not been filed. Then in one glance you can see where all of the photos in your library that have not yet been put away exist. Unfortunately the unsorted smart album is something that only works on the computer. I hope they change that in a future Update.
If you want to learn more about how the photos library and albums work (especially on the computer) check out this video:th-cam.com/video/qw7xdTfwXkg/w-d-xo.html
How do you edit the font when you add text to photos? I used that feature all the time before when I inventoried images of my art for sale & posted them to my social media page…. I can’t figure out how to change the fount & size…. I hope this feature is just hidden and not gone… can you help?
I get this comment a lot. If you have so many albums that you need the alphabet to organize them for you (which is an arbitrary form of organization assuming that albums that start with the letter A are more important than albums that start with the letter Z) what it really means is that you probably have too many albums. To help that out consider creating folders and moving your albums into folders. This can allow you to create specific folders for albums like travel, birthdays, family, friends etc. and move all of the necessary albums into those folders. Then the alphabet isn’t how you organize it you organize it through the folders making it easy to get specifically to that album from the trip that you took, or the album of the birthday pictures of your family. Just my suggestion. As far as tips on sorting you just have to move very slowly sorting things directly through the albums collection is a little bit finicky, especially if you have a lot of folders. Press lightly, drag slowly, be patient. But again if you embrace the folders system it will simplify all your sorting forever… You can learn more about my photos sorting tips by watching this video: th-cam.com/video/qw7xdTfwXkg/w-d-xo.html
@@TheMacWhisperer finally i arranged my photos as simple as i want it to be similar to the previous one. I’ve watched other vids regarding photo app with this latest ios i don’t know why seems complicated to me how they explained it unlike you maybe bec too much talks not direct & as simple like yours.
When you click on the photo you want to edit (at the bottom of the screen), you will see three icons: - Favorites (heart) - Info (i) - To the right of it, a new icon that's supposed to be settings Clicking on that will edit the photo. In my opinion, it's a bad logoi design for editing, which is why so many people can't find it... but all the tools are there once you click on it.
I like to make slideshows without music but dont seems to be a way to do a slideshow witout music because the videos have people talking and dont want to hear music and talking. So how to turn off the music !
Yes, unfortunately they messed up some of the slideshow creation tools inside photos. I hope they fix those issues in a future update… But the workaround I recommend is starting to use iMovie to create those videos. It’s free, and has much more functionality so you can really create Any kind of video you want with or without any audio that you want, with edits and transitions and all of the tools that you would want to make a video. It might take a little bit to get used to, but I think it will be a better result for you. And thank you for the question, after you ask this I did some research and I will be making an iMovie tutorial in the next week.
My big thing was the slideshow feature... it no longer works at all like it use to. I can't control the speed or transitions and itll also take more then one at a time when showing it.
Apple is in the process of refining this Photos app, and there are several fixes coming in the iOS 18.2 release in December. Many of them have to do with videos, full screen mode, and slideshows. So hopefully they will give you those tools.
Good morning, Dylan! My wife and I ran into a problem while trying to edit a photo in IOS 18. In previous versions, she was able to add a text box and change the background color of the text box. We know how to format the text, but we're having a hard time finding how to format the textbox itself. We appreciate any advice you have. Thank you!
It seems like they've slightly changed how to do that. My recommendation is to use text, and use a shape for the background color instead of trying to change the format of the text box itself. If I find a different way to do it, I will let you know.
Hello! Great video… thank you. I have 2 questions that you may have covered somewhere. 1) how do I organize my created albums alphabetically? and 2) you can remove photos from the photos and only keep them in an album. Do you recommend doing this?
Unfortunately, there is no easy way on the phone to organize albums alphabetically. In my personal opinion, if you have so many albums that you need the alphabet to keep them organized, it's probably time for you to discover folders. Folders are a great way to categorize your albums more simply, so that you don't have to scroll endlessly to find the right album. I recommend creating 5-6 basic folders with generic titles like Family, Friends, Travel, Pets, Home, Personal etc., then put your albums into those folders, and you won't care so much about the alphabet. As far as removing photos from the All Photos section and keeping them in albums, that's not possible. Unlike other systems where you move things out of the main library into albums, Apple's photo system is different, where the main library contains everything, and the albums are merely subsections of your entire library. By doing it this way, you can have the same photo and multiple albums or folders without having to duplicate it. The end result is that your photo library has everything in your albums, but sorted into separate categories. Hopefully that helps. If you want more information about how I recommend organizing photos, check out these videos: th-cam.com/video/rbpOYVz2Zmc/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/qw7xdTfwXkg/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/UtmnBLAwIRs/w-d-xo.html
Genuinely hate this update, I need them to allow us to revert to the old photos app
It would be egg on face to them. I doubt Apple would do this, but what a feasible option would be, is to have the old photos app available free in the Apple Store.
Did you watch the video? It surely seems like you could customize it a minimalistic level.
Exactly!!!!
Well… too bad that Steve is dead: he would have vomited that!
Now how can you synchronize with a Mac that has older Photo software? Did they thought about that? Or worse: did they made that greedily to sell more new Macs?
Watch the video again and I’m sure some of the new stuff will make sense. At 5:55, you’ll see what might be a big help!
Really? You have choice Elton remove everything
Many thanks. I used to hate the new update but modifying the app as I watched your video things became a lot clearer. I think I need to watch again a few times though as there is a lot to take in.
I absolutely hate it with my whole heart
I hate it and want it back to the way it was
They're never going to put it back to the way it was. Better to learn how to use it and master it. With a little work most people have found a way to set it up to their preferences. What do you miss about the old way?
@ I figured out how to get most of that off my screen so I don’t see it
@@TheMacWhisperer well they'll just have to lose customer see Apple is turned to crap they're not any better than anybody else now , so we have a lot of choices out there that's just as good if not better then iPhone
Yup. Ever made the mistake of going to a movie with a movie critic? Can’t get them to shut up can you! Lol. Same idea.
Apple will always have people to carry water for them, so they’ll never stop breaking stuff.
@have you ever heard the quote and do you agree that sometimes humans need to learn some things are well enough left alone
@@TheMacWhisperereverything in this comment you said is the complete opposite for me, I had a whole system. AND I HATE CHANGE
I just hate so much this update. I wish I could revert it
You're not alone... but with a little bit of work, almost everyone I've talked to has been able to set it up the way they like.
All you had to do was put an icon on the photo that would indicate that the photo is already included in an album.
Idk man maybe just stop taking so many d*ck pics?? I promise no one wants to see them, it’s not just you who wants them hidden
Absolute disaster !
@@TheMacWhispererWould be very helpful to play and pause a video in full view, like you used to be able to in earlier iOSs
Apple, please bring back Aperture.
Thanks!
I honestly almost fainted when I woke up to this update lol Thanks for this amazing video!!!
Is there a way to just see the recents and not the entire library up at the top like before?
I know the new app can be overwhelming at first, but once you organize it and get it set up the way you like, it's really a great upgrade.
How do you get rid of customize and reorder space
Several years later they refined the Photos app to such an extent that people are fighting to keep it…
Apple will keep changing, if you learn the functions and tools before long you may not even miss the old app.
How to fix edited photos not going to most recent in the photo library when saving them?
I was getting so frustrated with the latest update. Thank you, thank you for this video.
Brilliant tutorial, a plethora of tips I would never have discovered.
Thanks so much! Any particular tips stand out?
@@TheMacWhispererNot yet, there’s so much content for a seemingly simple app, it’ll take a few more views, and practice, but I can see already I’ m going to have a much more productive and enjoyable time sifting through my photos. ThanX
i haaaaate this new update , could we go back to the old one .
Would you know where all the missing photos went post iOS 18 update? Thanks!

I have no idea why but im media types i cant see all my photos theres like 1/4 - 1/5 missing and i have no idea why
Thanks so much. You just made using the new photo app so much easier
I don't want the video unzoomed either with a giant bar in the middle it's so frustrating
excellent! I learned a lot!
How are ‘vacations’ ‘trips’ created? I have been in many trips to other states and it only shows one trip album.
You have demystified this app for me, need to re-run your video a few times to let it sink in but thanks, a BIG HELP
Hello! Maybe you can help me! I delete a picture (for mistake) and I can’t find the trash.
It’s easy to get to favourites, but awfully hard to get back to All Items. The little icon above the word Library disappears once in favourites , making it HARD to switch back to (all) Photos. It sucks switching viewing options.
Please post on how to edit photos!
Editing photos is really easy. When you click on the photo on the bottom, you will see an icon on the right that looks like Settings. Its to thr right of the heart and the "i".
Clicking on that will open up the editing mode. They changed the icon, but the capability is still the same.
So where are all of my photos when I swipe down to see my photo library?? I can’t see everything
Thank you very much for this clear and extremely useful tutorial. Sincere compliments for the clear and systematic way in which the tutorial is structured. Even for non-English speakers, your tutorials are always easy to follow and use. I am already much happier with the new photo app now that I have understood the structure.
It mashes up photos that you were sent on whatsapp.. Its sees them as I took those photos.. And you cannot separate them
That's a WhatsApp issue. There's a section of WhatsApp that dumps those pictures into your photo library automatically. If you turn that off from settings in WhatsApp, they won't show up here.
@ yeah, but it also doesnt create a separate whatsapp folder.
And thank you for the reply
Super video - thanks!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Any future topics you'd like to see me cover?

The video is really helpful. Thanks so much.❤
Thanks for the great information. Totally hated it with all the new stuff, but after watching, see the possibilities of its offerings and just need to play with it to see. Was afraid to explore it not sure if I'd accidentally delete something.
It can be overwhelming at first, but I promise it's worth it! You can make the Photos app work for you.
HOW DO I PLAY VIDEOS SEQUENTIALLY FROM PHOTO ALBUMS IN IOS18 ???!!!
When I look at a photo, it’s on top of another photo. How do I get rid of that feature?
I'm not sure what you mean by that. Can you ask it in a different way?
Are you referencing how the photos look in the photos view? If so, you can pinch and spread to change that view, or click on a specific photo and then swipe to get to the next photo or the previous photo.
If I'm not answering the right question, please ask it again.
there’s no EDIT tap anymore how do I find it please
I think it’s down at the bottom of each picture, beside the bin. It’s 3 arrows, going in different directions. Well not exactly arrows, more like straight lines with a tiny circle in each line.
How about if I just want the photos to appear in the order I saved them....
Go into your photo library, click the arrows in the bottom left corner, and change the sort order to " Sort by recently added"
Thank you.

I’m still wondering if there is any way to rearrange my albums?
Absolutely, just open the albums collection, press and hold on any album and drag it into the position you want. You can also use folders to organize those albums. If you want more information about how to organize your photo library check out this video:th-cam.com/video/qw7xdTfwXkg/w-d-xo.html
@ Thank you for your prompt response but I have tried and tried and still can’t get it to work. I will look at this other video and see if it helps….
@ Now I’m wondering if I can only do these things on my laptop and not my iPhone?
I adore sharing memory videos! The one you ‘deselected’! Now, I cannot even find how to share these memories with any of my contacts!
Select all option is missing in recently deleted album???
But how do i re arrange my albums?
If you go into the albums collection, and click on it, it will open up a screen where you can press and hold to drag your albums and folders into the order you’d like.
Thank you for the great walkthrough!
Glad you enjoyed it! Let me know if you have any other questions.
How to add a new folder??
Find your album collection and then click on the title at the top. That will open it into its own window. Then, in the upper right-hand corner, there is a 'Create' button that will allow you to create a new album or a new folder.
All I want to know is if I will still have all the albums that *I* created myself. Or do those disappear? Are they replaced by A.I. albums that decide how to group them for me?
All the albums you created are still there. You can locate them in the Album section of the photo library. AI does not create or group photos for you… It can create memories but that’s all. Everything else is all done by you or some basic Apple photos tools that have been around for a while.
Why do the photos I select for a certain album stay in the photo library? I’m trying to declutter the library.
That’s not the way the photo library works. The photo library is all of your pictures no matter where you put them… The albums allow you to create subsections of the library to find specific things easily. But it does not remove them from your entire library…
This is done intentionally so that you can have the same photo and multiple albums if you like.

@@TheMacWhisperer Thank you for your thorough answer. I really appreciate it!
How do you edit the font when you add text to photos? I used that feature all the time before when I inventoried images of my art for sale & posted them to my social media page…. I can’t figure out how to change the fount & size…. I hope this feature is just hidden and not gone… can you help?
I don’t like how my photos are exposed on the top, and I wish there an all tab.
That moving albums in the Album list doesn’t work for me. Thanks for the info
Can you show us how to get rid of it
There is no getting rid of it there is only learning how to use it
I can’t hold and drag my albums into alphabetical order, can you help please
But again if you embrace the folders system it will simplify all your sorting forever…

Thank you for this information.
Very helpful thank you!!!
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful.
How can I change back to having the most recent photo on top? Like it used to be in iOS17 and still actually is in iOS18 "screenshots" and "favorites"
Open your photo library, and click on the arrows in the lower left-hand corner to change the sort for your photo library.
thanks for this vid you explained it well & simple
Glad you got a lot out of it! Any takeaways you'd like to share?
@@TheMacWhisperer finally i arranged my photos as simple as i want it to be similar to the previous one. I’ve watched other vids regarding photo app with this latest ios i don’t know why seems complicated to me how they explained it unlike you maybe bec too much talks not direct & as simple like yours.
Thank you for doing what you do best; making things NO PROBLEM.
Dylan, thank you so much for this outstanding video. One of the best out there.
1:57 worked perfectly for me, thank you so much 😊
How do you edit??!
When you click on the photo you want to edit (at the bottom of the screen), you will see three icons:
- Favorites (heart)
- Info (i)
- To the right of it, a new icon that's supposed to be settings
Clicking on that will edit the photo.
Compatibility with older Mac software????????
I'm not sure what you're asking here... It should be compatible with most older Mac software...
@@TheMacWhisperer You hide something in iPhone but in the Mac who has not this function, it’s not hidden anymore!
What version software are you running on your Mac?
Awesome. Got the answer to my question halfway through the 3rd minute 👍
I'm glad you found the answer you were looking for!
@@TheMacWhisperer gosh I sure hope so
Good morning, Dylan!
If you want more information about how I recommend organizing photos, check out these videos:
