    Hi Dylan. I have been an Evernote user since 2010 and have over 2500 notes in several notebooks. I am an avid user for business and personal. Have rediscovered Apple Notes now that the latest releases over the past couple of years have made it not just usable and pleasurable but powerful. I have begun to use it again for the personal side of my life.
    In order for me to make a final switchover though for the business I would like to know your opinion on Apple Notes handling of Tasks. I believe I have a full understanding of how to use Apple Reminders to link to Notes (learned from another of your videos) but from what I know I think it falls short with what I am able to do with Tasks in Evernote and the way Evernote handles them. Evernote's method of "collating" Tasks from any single note into a single space is exceptional, very powerful and extremely useful to me. Leaving that capability behind for my business work is a non-starter. I have not seen an equivalent in Apple Notes separately or combined with Reminders that comes close. At best it would be kluge. Would be curious to know what you think of this.

    Thanks for all your information packed videos! I’m so happy to have discovered you. I’ve had Apple products from practically the beginning of time, yet it’s been so difficult to keep up with all the changes and improvements of the years. My productivity has certainly suffered because I haven’t used these products to their fullest potential. I’m looking forward to watching many more of your videos and putting all your knowledge to good use. Thanks once again

    As one who loves trivia and APPRECIATES Y-O-U I have to add that the 'three dots' are an ELLIPSIS. Keep your superb tutorials coming. I wish I'd have discovered you LONG ago. Very well presented.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh my friend… I laughed quite hard when you shared this tip. I am 100% aware that the three dots are called an ellipses. I am part of the Gen X generation that uses ellipses in all of my writings, to the point that people are constantly rolling their eyes and asking why I needed to do an ellipses rather than a comma or a period.
      And you are verycorrect… That’s exactly what the three dots are. But you and I are amongst the minority of knowing that it’s called an ellipses. If I called it an ellipses Regularly in my videos I would have 1000 comments asking what that is…
      So thank you for knowing… thank you for pointing it out… thank you for the laugh.. and of course thank you for watching (did you see what I did there…).

    This is really helpful! One thing I’m still trying to get my head wrapped around is how to conceptualize organizing folders in the Notes app vs organization of the folders on my hard drive generally. Does your folder structure in Notes mirror the folder structure on your hard drive? Do you think of each as having different purposes?

    Enjoying your series on Notes and looking forward to more. In your video when using the microphone to add items to lists, when you pause and then continue, Notes creates a new line item. When I do that, the first item on the list just continues and all runs together. Are you doing something off screen to drop to a new line or am I missing something? .

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are two ways you can create a new line, I use both and I’ve also edited the video for simplicity…
      The two ways are clicking the return button after you say a line, and then continue with the next item. Or you can use the verbal command “new line” and it will add it for you.

    I’m a new listener. I love your content ❤. How do I save the content of my Notes to Dropbox, I know it saves it to ICloud but if I don’t have enough storage I want to save it on Dropbox. Thank you😊

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You'd have to manually export each and every note into Dropbox to make that work, which is time-consuming and unwieldy. Notes is made to sync with iCloud, and it doesn't take up that much space.
      In my personal opinion, if you don't have enough storage on iCloud, get more ($12-$120 a year is worth its weight in gold). It means you never have to worry about things getting lost because you have plenty of space to backup all your devices, everything synchronizes automatically across all of your devices, and it does its job without you needing to do anything.
      If you want to move it all to Dropbox, it will remove it from being synched in Notes, and won't really save you any storage space.
      You would need to go to each note, click Share > Click Print > Click Share again to make it a PDF > and Point it to Dropbox.
      It's going to be a long arduous task that you'll have to do on a regular basis, or just pay an extra $12 or so a year to Apple and call it a day.
      I always find it funny how much work, time, and effort people will put themselves through to save the small price of increasing their iCloud storage space.
      Just my 2 cents.

    • @susydornberg7239

      Believe me, it will pay dividends that you aren't even aware of to simplify your life in this way. If you lean into the Apple ecosystem and how iCloud works, it makes everything simpler, especially when dealing with notes and photos.

One QUESTION: I upgraded to IOS 18.1 and have iPhone 13 Pro Max and have 149.44 GB of memory available, but I didn’t get the invite to the Ai waitlist. Do you know what I can do to get Ai for my phone?

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apple Intelligence will only be available for the iPhone 15 Pro and later. The 13 Pro doesn't have the capable processor and resources to manage AI being done on your phone. Apple's never going to allow Apple Intelligence on any earlier phones than the 15 Pro, so the only way you can do it is by getting yourself a more current phone.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've been using Apple Notes to take notes for any classes I've been on for motre than a decades now.
      I've used it at live seminars and conferences, and within classes. I can do it right from my phone, or from an iPad or computer... and it's not just for simple short notes. If you look at some of the formatting tools that I shared in the second video (th-cam.com/video/VCeKovPCm0I/w-d-xo.html) you will see that you can really make it into a robust note. Not just a couple of quick lines.
      And if you have an iPad and a pencil, it's even better.
      Hope that helps!

      You know it's hard to please everyone.
      When I don't have music, people ask for it, when I do have music, people want it gone.
      I'm trying to split the difference by finding music that isn't too distracting and isn't too loud, so that it doesn't have to compete with my voice.
      It's a learning process, and I passed your notes on to my editors who hopefully will address it in our future videos. Thanks for watching!

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      My phone is on iOS 18.2, which is the beta release. iOS 18.1 was fully released last Monday.
      Apple Intelligence is a part of iOS 18.1, but Apple Intelligence is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and later...
      So while you can upgrade to the latest operating system, the iPhone 14 will not get the Apple Intelligence features...
      In spite of many people asking and assuming that eventually Apple will change that, I'll straight up tell you that Apple will never change that decision, and Apple Intelligence will never come to any phone earlier than the iPhone 15 Pro.
      If Apple Intelligence is important to you, you may want to upgrade... That being said, please note that Apple Intelligence will be rolled out over the next 12-18 months, with new features being released every update... So a lot of people have decided to wait to upgrade to a newer phone and tell all of the Apple Intelligence features are fully released sometime next year.

    I used Notes to save everything. As an engineering student while working in finance profession, and having several hobbies, my Notes weight 20 GB on iCloud. Eventually, I will need searching TH-cam for how to down size Notes and backup Notes to an alternative memory.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Rather than trying to export them my recommendation is to go into your notes click in the search field and search for notes with attachments. Those are the ones that are bringing up the larger size. You can probably export or delete some of those to bring the size down.
      Moving forward, I recommend people copy and paste the text of Attachments rather than the attachments themselves whenever possible. Adding the attachment is a great function but overused creates a slow and clunky experience. Copying and pasting text directly into the notes app eliminate the weight issue and allows it to operate more fully.
      There are a lot of ways you can export your notes library by saving things as PDFs or moving them off of the program so that you don’t have to Stop using it all together.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't disagree with any of the notes you have, but I will address them here:
      1. Cutting and pasting is an efficient way to move things from one note to another. If you cut the entire note, you won't need to go back and delete it because it will delete itself - notes don't allow empty notes to exist when there's no text on it.
      2. If you pin a note, you can change the order by putting the important ones up top. Otherwise, you can sort by date added, date edited, or by title. If you want more manual options, create a folder and put the important notes into that folder, so that you know where they are.
      3. As of iOS 18, you can highlight on the phone, you could always change colors from the computer.
      4. Everybody wants notes and reminders to be combined, but to me they are two very different programs. Notes is for things that I want to refer back to and store forever. Reminders is for things I want to accomplish. There actually is a way to link them together, if you have a note and you click on the share button you can share it directly to reminders, so that the reminders app will prompt you about that note at a specific date and time. If you want the notes that you create in notes to be in reminders, you should just put them in reminders to begin with.
      5. As I said in #3, as of iOS 18 you can highlight notes on your phone or iPad.
      6. As I said in #3, "If you want to change the text color, it has to be done on the computer. Yes, that's annoying... but it's really the only major issue on your list that I don't have a solution for unless you just do it from the computer. (And if you don't have an Apple computer, I understand your frustration... but if you do, you have many more formatting and adjustment tools there that will transfer directly over to the iPhone and iPad Notes app.)
      Thanks for sharing your notes about notes. Let me know if I can help you address any of those issues or give additional tools.
      And if you want to know more about my thoughts around notes and reminders being combined, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/jMfw1TWbr8o/w-d-xo.html

      The joke about that is, at any given time I'm usually pretty close to 0 on all my notifications. But, when I film videos (which I do all day once a week), I turn all of my notifications off so that I can focus and work. It's kind of like you caught me with my pants down. By the point in the day this video was shot I was behind on EVERYTHING.
      But within an hour of finishing shooting I was caught up, but the screen capture recorded my dirty little secret.
      It's funny because I know people who have tens of thousands of unread messages and hundreds of missed phone calls - so I know what you mena about it driving you crazy!!!!

      Thank you for that. It's pretty funny because half of the viewers say I move too slow and the other half say I move too fast. Adjusting the speed is the way to find your proper pacing. Thanks for helping out!
