  • In this episode, you’re going to learn about Josh, founder of Peakwalker Roof, Gutter, & Window Cleaning, and how he started a cleaning business from scratch.
    Josh’s story is incredible. An avid hiker and rock-climber, he started working for a local company in Oregon as an arborist trainee. But after a technicality, he was let go… and decided to make the leap to start his own company.
    He started out as a subcontractor, working for a cleaning company that inspected roofs for insurance claims. But he very quickly realized that this was a dead end.
    Undaunted by failure, he upgraded his general liability insurance, hired a graphic designer to create a logo, and founded a cleaning business startup in Portland, Oregon called Peakwalker Roof, Gutter, and Window Cleaning.
    In this video, you’ll learn how Josh was able to scale his cleaning service business to the point of earning approximately $100 an hour.
    You’ll also learn how to start a cleaning business from scratch, what kind of business mentality helped Josh in starting a cleaning business, what goes into creating a commercial cleaning business, and how Josh’s passion for rock climbing and skydiving gave him the mental tools he needed to succeed.
    Peakwealker Roof, Gutter, & Window Cleaning is expected to grow quickly. By next winter, Josh predicts that he’ll have hired 3 to 4 field techs, as well as a coordinator to answer calls.
    At this point, he literally has to turn down work because he’s so busy!

      @Z Brolyox Unfortunately most likely you wont be able to get a loan or funding unless you have proof of income or a business idea that someone will want to get behind. As far as we know there is a franchise fee that you need to pay for Agusta lawn care. But talk to Mike, he's a really nice guy and he'll be able to suggest something.

    I haven't read all the comments, however, I do own a professional soft wash and pressure washing company and would like to offer a few pieces of professional advice. No disrespect intended and I hope this message reaches you before you damage any more roofing. The method of brushing the roof is very bad for the roof and is not the ARMA approved method of roof cleaning which is simply a chemical cleaning process with very little pressure. Meaning as low as possible, 60-150 psi. No direct pressure. I know the restrictions are different in different states but this method you are using is not covered by your business insurance and you will be found at fault and have to replace the roof out of pocket. Please seek out an online training program that will have all the information you need or even TH-cam has plenty of training videos showing the correct process. Good luck to you sir.

      Thank you @ _It's a oliver's World_ , I am not unaware of softwash methods. As of this time I am not convinced by the oversimplifications thrown around in the industry about the safety of bleach as it is used in softwashing. On top of that, I prefer not to be dependent on a bulk chemical supply to conduct my business. There has been a bleach shortage in the Pacific Northwest recently and it put many of the softwash outifts at a large financial loss and scrambling to get ahold of barrels of bleach.
      The small amounts of moss growing on the roof of the property in this video is a poor representation of the majority of the roof moss removal services Peakwalker does. In this area even the softwash companies that offer legitimate moss removal services first use a wire brush to remove the large clumps. Please see my comment in response to @ _Wash it GROW_ to read a more detailed explanation as to why this method is not the destructive practice many of the fanatical softwash proponents insist it is.

      @peakwalkerpdx7109 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I wondered how long it would take the old debate on softwashing versus brushing moss from roofs to appear in the comments for this video. Experience has taught me that this feud takes on the same fanatical departure from reason and nuance as certain political or religious rivalries and I have learned to avoid it as such. However, since it has cropped up as a public criticism of Peakwalker directly, I will engage just this once.
      Loyalists in the softwashing camp say brushing moss off a composition roof is "destroying the shingles," while extremists in the brushing camp say softwashing is an excessive use of water and energy to douse properties in harsh chemical mixes, only to do a subpar job of actually removing the moss growths even after they die in place. One thing both camps can agree on, is that pressure washing a composition shingle roof is the worst thing you can do to it. Let us start from there. Does brushing moss off a composition shingle roof result in some of the shingle granules dislodging? Of course. Does it remove so many as to leave any discernible impact that compromise the longevity or appearance of the shingles? No it does not, especially not when compared to pressure washing. Not to mention that the amount of granules that brush off with the moss are a drop in the bucket compared to the amount that exfoliates due to the effects of normal rain, wind, and you guessed it, MOSS! This is why nearly every home with a composition shingle roof has a layer of asphalt granules at least an eighth inch deep lining the inner trough of the gutters. After brushing moss off thousands of composition shingle roofs and examining the results up close, I have yet to see any damage or indication a brush was used. I have served countless customers who hired me to remove large moss growth from their roof just days before having a certified home inspector appraise the property to go on the market. Many of them have relayed that the inspector was impressed with the condition of the roof and none of them have ever reported that an inspector identified any sign a brush was used to remove moss. Please show me the time stamp of the close-up shots in this video where you can identify any marks left from the brushing method shown being used to remove moss.
      Now can an individual who is overly aggressive and careless make a noticeable impact on a composition shingle roof with a brush? I don't doubt it. The same way a softwash tech who doesn't know what they are doing can apply too hot a chemical mix and fumigate the tenants out of an entire complex, never mind the ecological impact if the downspouts drain out on the land or near a riparian zone. There are consequences to the improper use of both methods. Both methods when done properly however, can be suitable options to clean moss off roofs, depending on the situation. The property in this video would have been a fine candidate for a softwash since the moss was small and localized to a couple faces of the roof. Many of the homes I rig fall-arrest safety systems to work on would not be good candidates and the softwash companies in town avoid these properties like the plague, leaving the homeowners desperate to find competent help. I am not opposed to softwashing, but I have seen the results firsthand and in several cases (not ALL cases) it does not remove the moss to the standards Peakwalker guarantees. It does a particularly poor job on presidential composition shingles where the moss grows in bands on the horizontal AND vertical edges of the shingles. I have also not seen a practical and effective way for dispersing a mix and rinsing it off from large, steep, and complex roof layouts with moss growth exceeding 3" in breadth. Lastly I prefer to use as few chemical treatments in my business practices as are needed nor am I a fan of softwash companies that advertise "green or eco-friendly" solutions, only to soak a property in whatever concentration of bleach or soaps with phosphates that is necessary to deliver the results they promise. If a customer asked me to clean their roof of bacterial staining, algae, and lichen, I would recommend they contact one of the reputable softwash outfits in town. For a 12/12 roof with spires and numerous extensions largely covered in large moss, I stand by my methods as the most safe and effective.
      All of that said, I am not opposed to learning more about softwashing methods and swapping notes with anyone in regards to specific logistics of using the method and how it can be priced compared to the methods Peakwalker uses. I do not view critical commentators online as enemies, but rather as friends since they are the ones who can best refine and expand my scope of knowledge and understanding of best practices. If any of you who have left a critique or are simply reading this would like to engage in such a dialogue, feel free to send an email (please don't spam me!)
      If you only wanted to cast your stones online, rest assured your flag has been raised and Peakwalker command protocols from here out are DO NOT ENGAGE. Thanks for the feedback!
