    Heck yeah Rich!! We just started adding microwave above the ranges about 3 years ago so this video helps a lot! Thanks for sharing! 🤜🤛

      You will start having calls on them soon if you haven't already, we installed a bunch of whirlpool over the range microwaves at my old property & within 2-3 years the calls started coming in. Thanks for watching bro 👍

      Apartment Maintenance I have had 1 call about the fan not working. They where 1 month from moving out and it was greased up good. Told them the part would take awhile to come in. Ordered new microwave and installed for new tenants lol

      @@themaintenanceman1 I hear ya on that! Then reuse old microwave after you get it cleaned up, or for parts if it's not going to clean up. 👍👍

    If you can solder, the triac on the circuit board is faulty and costs $0.79. The new board costs as much as a new microwave.

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great suggestion. I can solder, braze & weld but alot of people can't & this is what they would have to do. Also I've had these boards on the shelf since the microwaves were purchased otherwise I wouldn't buy one now with the age of the microwave. If the repair costs 50% or more of the appliance & it's out of warranty it's not worth fixing. Thanks for watching John & subscribe to the channel 👍

    Excellent. Now we have to try to get the Smartboard/control panel. Where can we find it if Westinghouse won’t sell it to us? Second, I would take pictures of where all the wires go…

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your microwave is a GE, then you can contact GE appliances directly to get it. If it is a Westinghouse brand microwave, check out searsppartsdirect.com & type your model # in to search for parts for your model. Yes you can take pictures of where all the wires go if you would like. Thanks for watching Mary & Subscribe to the channel 👍

    What if lights are staying on but when you press the surface light button to try to turn off the lights nothing happens not even the beeping sound you usually hear when pressing any of the buttons. But light just stays on constantly

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like your keypad is bad. Basically the same situation as the one in my video but your lights are stuck in the on position instead of the off position. Your lights were probably on when the keypad light function went bad & won't turn off. Does everything else work properly when you press those buttons? Thanks for the video I have a 2 year old GE Microwave Model #JVM3162DJWW with the lights not working .. my opinion appliances should work MUCH longer than 2 years without issue.. I imagine the smartboard part will cost about 1/2 of what the GE Microwave cost.. THANK YOU for the simple video on how to change the smartboard

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad the video helped out & I totally agree with you on the longevity of appliances these days. I had a few smart boards in stock from when the microwaves were purchased as stock items & that's the reason why I changed it out. The rule of thumb is, if the part costs 50% or more of what a new appliance costs at year 3 or more, then it's best to just replace the appliance rather than replacing the part. Thanks for watching James & Subscribe to the channel 👍

      @@ApartmentMaintenance I found a control board on ebay for $90, other part sources were over $100. the same microwave is $219 at lowes now.. I'll just use it without lights. Maybe GE programs things to start braking down after a time. What do you think? For a control board to last two years for is shameful. After purchasing the GE Microwave Model #JVM3162DJWW I was getting many advertisements for extended warrantee. I thought appliances normally last decades and passed. I guess new appliances no longer last decades. Thanks again for posting this video. It is key in my quest to find the answer. I subscribed

      @@jamess3052 I think everything is made to be replaced now a days. They don't make things like they used to (That's what I've always heard & seems to be true). Thanks James!

    I'd have put ribbon in last, as it's the most sensitive/fragile connect... Seat it after everything else is situated

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've done it last, first, second, never had an issue with them. Normally I change gloves when touching the ribbon so there's no grease getting on it. Thanks for watching Xephael 👍

    Do you keep stock of control boards? Presume all your apartments have similar models?

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I keep 2 or 3 in stock, all the apartments have the same appliances so it makes it nice on stocking parts. I have stainless steel & black appliances, but the parts are all the same. Thanks for watching 👍

    Three questions: 1. How did you know your board was bad? 2. Where did you purchase a replacement board? 3. How much did the board cost? Thanks!

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. After checking the bulbs, & sockets I knew it was the board just from experience. I've had this problem several times over 20 years of doing this. 2. I bought it from GE, I have an account with them. 3. I want to say it was around $50, which is cheap because I have a commerical account and purchase all my parts there for 284 apartments all with GE appliances. Thanks for watching Neal 👍

      I just bought my house 7 months ago and the builder gave me a new microwave but now the microwave light is not working. I feel like the light bulb shouldn’t be bad this early in the game. Do you think the board is the issue why my microwave light won’t turn on? Please advise.

    • @n.cummings1169
      @n.cummings1169 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abbykimble7798 I would suggest you purchase a replace the bulb. That's typically what the problem is.

  • @wmarkfish
    @wmarkfish ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn’t it had been cheaper just to buy a new microwave? 75 -100 for parts, 200 for repairman house call.

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the parts in stock & I am the repairman. It's definitely better to replace a microwave when the part is 50% or more of a brand new microwave. But if you can fix it yourself and the part is less than 50% of the cost of a new microwave then it's better to fix it. For people who can't fix it themselves & isn't sure what the issue is they call a repairman & once they diagnose the issue they give the customer options & the home owner decides what they want to do. Thanks for watching Wmarkfish & subscribe to the channel 👍

    We don't even repair it just replace the whole microwave

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a national account with GE, so my price of a control board is alot cheaper than a new microwave. For most people it wouldn't be worth it to replace the board. Thanks for watching Scott 👍
