Would a foam roller work just as well as a ball?

This was so helpful thank you!!! I have had thoracic back pain for four months - much worse when working at my desk but trying to take regular breaks and do plenty of exercise. I have a sore spot on the right side of my spine (bra strap height) that feels tender when I press down. Any idea what this could be? I've seen physios and an osteopath and they've been kind of vague when I've asked this... thanks for any help! Very glad that I've found your channel. :)

Clare, i am so glad that this helped you!
In regards to a tender spot just to the side of your spine, this could be a rib head that has become fixated, maybe even shifted slightly which will create some inflammation and discomfort. However, that being said, I have no examined you, so cannot be sure.
I want you to go and get it checked out by your GP or primary medical physician, just to rule out other things. If you then get the all clear, a good chiropractor should know how to specifically adjust a rib that has become dysfunctional.
I hope that helps, please let me know how you get on.

@@ChiroCarl Hi Carl, thanks so much for the advice! I've made my doctor aware and I've had bloods/x-rays so thankfully nothing sinister! I'm going to look into chiro next, are you London based?

I feel I’m locking my shoulder & elbow on the weight bearing arm - is this ok or should I be attempting to keep elbow slightly bent?

    • @ChiroCarl
      @ChiroCarl  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Diane, it doesn't matter too much as long as there is no pain and you are keeping your hips down towards the floor.
That being said, locking your elbows will increase the load in the elbow joint and we don't want to cause unneeded stress, but keeping the elbow partly bent will fatigue your muscles more quickly.
It is a fine line. As long as there is no pain, go slow, nice and controlled and do these regularly.

Are you going to do something similar for lumbar pain?
I feel like mine are two columns made of solid steel that are constantly tight.
    Thanks for this video!

Absolutely! I have had a few viewers request lower back / lumbar exercises, so that is on my to-do list. Give me some time and I will get one done for you!

Where can I find this supine ball? Amazon and ebay were of no help, maybe I messed up. Any help?

    • @ChiroCarl

Definitely my fault, I could have explained better. You can use any ball that you pump air into, or that are soft but strong enough for your weight.
What i was using in this video was a slam ball with some air removed, a football/soccer ball or similar could also do just as good of a job.
Alternatively you can save buying a ball specifically for it, get a strong chair with a firm back rest that comes to just around the bottom of your shoulder blades. Sit in the chair and lean backwards, it will have a similar feeling, not quite as easy to do properly though.
Any further problems, please do get in touch

W Boat, check the description for the video ( amzn.to/2XFKUEC ) so you know what kind of ball i used.
