    Clean And Green Backbacking Gear - Useful or Useless?
    Is sustainable hiking and backpacking gear, a lot of hot air and hype, or is it something that we should take a closer look into? In this video, I lift the lid on what's happening in the sustainable hiking gear space so you can make an informed decision on what''s the best gear for you. Enjoy. :)
    Many thanks to Bivouac Christchurch and Macpac Hormby for allowing me to film in their stores. Check out them out sometime.

    Is sustainably sourced gear a lot of hot air or should it be taken seriously? Let me know your thoughts.

    Hey Barry, great subject choice for this video and definitely raised my awareness on the environmental aspect. I appreciate the fact that you put the time into making this video and as usual lots here that I wasn't aware of.. Nice to have a look around that outdoor shop too which looks really impressive. Great that they allowed you to film too.. ATB Tom

      Thanks, as always for your support, Tom. Yes, it’s a video I’ve been wanting to do for awhile. There’s not many vids on this topic on YT, and yet it’s a growing area of concern and of interest to people. I actually filmed it in two of my favorite local stores who were kind enough to let me video in them. I look forward to your next video. All the very best. 😀

    Hunters Element have an amazing sustainable policy, plastic is converted to threads and then made into cloth for their clothes.

      Thanks Dave. Yes there’s quite a few companies doing similar things, which is awesome to see. Great to see such variety out there at the mo of sustainable clothing and gear.

    I see Dave got in before me. I buy Hunters Element clothing. Sustainable, yes. But also great quality and very functional.

      Great to hear. It’s good to see there’s such a wide range of sustainably sourced clothing we can choose from today. And as you say, it’s good quality and functional.

    great video on a topic thats often overlooked. where did you get your boots re soled? and are you happy with them im looking at getting mine done cheers

      Hey there, Blair. Glad you enjoyed my new vid. In terms of my boots, it’s the second pair I’ve had resoled. I generally find it doubles the life of them. I use a Christchurch based company, called Church Corner Shoe & Bag Repairs. It cost me $120 for the Vibram soles.

    The consequences of our choices definitely adds up for better or for worse. It might not be apparent today but in months or years, we will know if we made the right decisions. Ua mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono.

    No one's put this Wild Mountain Man...
    The food packets on just about every TH-cam wildcamping video, you know the ones they put into a 750ml lightweight cup and boil for 7mins and get, hey presto chilli con carne!
    The packaging is dreadful. What happened to cooking a meal before going, then re heat or even cook something from scratch. AHH but then there's washing up, more water usage, so then their not lightweight...
    You get it m8 🙂👍

      Hey there. Funny how you say that, as I was thinking about the wasted packaging as I rinsed out my add-water type dehy meal by a lake this weekend. Yes, agreed, there’s always things we can do to lessen our impact on the planet. All the best. 👍🏼

    Nice video mate. Of course, getting the most out of the gear we already own, as well as buying second hand is always the better option where possible. And it's got to be said, keeping helicopter insertions into tramping locations to a minimum is something mother nature will be thankful for! (nudge, wink 😉).

      @wildmountainman1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, Sam! It was my first helicopter tramp and flight, and I loved it. 😀 Yes, and playing our part on the sustainable front where we can is also very important. All the best out there.

    • @wildmountainman1
      @wildmountainman1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, very true. And there’s a good range of secondhand gear that you can score for a pretty good deal at times, too. All the best.
