      recently bought a Salewa Litetrek 3 person tent, 3 kg, 4 seasons and below 400 $. It offers a lot of room for 2 people and the weight is easily split up between two. have had a zpacks duplex before, great tent if you're 1 person on a thru-hike, not so great if you're 2 people that will have to share it for more than a night. also, the cuben fibre tents have a really hard time with snow. due to the nature of the material snow will stick to it and pile up. that being said, the duplex is crazy light, i would however prefer the 3 person version

    I went with the nemo kunai 2p, it's basically a 3 season 1.5 person tent... bought because it was cheap, less than $500 US with foot print. I just started backpacking, seems okay once it's all guyed out. I've gone down to -17F testing it and got out into the backcountry on snowshoes so far with it. Planning a 4 day adventure next month going for 35-40 miles on snowshoes! Will upgrade in future but for under 500 and 2 ish kg with 12 stakes will work for good while.

      @Wild Mountain Man I like it so far, feel like it's harder to set up than needed but I'm sure I'll get better with time. Just not looking forward to my first set up in 20 plus mph wind hahaha. Surprised you didn't mention the MSR's unique feature in this line up (only reason I paid the price I did, lol)
    The composite poles... Next level. The way they bend and bounce right back is incredible. I honestly would struggle to go back to alu poles after using the Hubba myself! I have the Naturehike CloudUp 3. Never experienced the Laundry sheet effect yet. Hopefully never. The poles style is the same as the Hubba, and I have experienced the poles bending in heavy wind - to the point they were hitting me on the head, but they always snap back into place once the wind eases with no damage done. Surprised at the durability given the price.

      Hi there. That’s great to hear you’re happy with your CloudUp 3. Really pleased to also hear that although the poles bend in, they didn’t break. You’ll be relieved. Lol. It’s good to know that when your 3-season tent gets tested, that it performs well under pressure. All the best out there.

    Hi Barry very informative as always. Personally I use the Hilleberg Rogen as my go to 3 season 2p tent. 9mm DAC poles, very good strength to weight ratio fabrics, great internal space and 2 large vestibules all for 2.1kg. Fits comfortably into a 5 litre dry bag so small pack size as well 👍

    Interesting on the Hubba Hubba 2. When upgrading my tent for te Araroa a few years ago, the lightweight floor on the original Hubba Hubba was what turned me off it. Tenting on rocky ground it was recommended to use a footprint, but then the combined weight didn't add up for me. I ended going with a Macpac Minaret - was a good sweet spot for me in terms of strength, functionality, weight & price. Especially love being able to pitch the tent with the fly in one action in bad conditions - keeps everything a lot drier!

    • @wildmountainman1
      @wildmountainman1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Aaron. Yes, that’s a really good decision on the MSR VS Minaret. The Macpac is a good 4-season tent and would handle most bad weather situations you threw at it. Sadly the hyped up branding of the Hubba Hubba doesn’t live up to expectation, especially when you look at its price tag. Well done on doing the TA too. 👋🏼😀

Totally back you up regarding your comments on the MSR HUBBA..Also I am so not a fan of all the thin fabrics used to reduce weight. Excellent video. You included some info that's new to me. I agree that a four season tent like the Hilleberg Black Label or Red Labels may be overkill but they work fine during the summer and shoulder season and I don't have to scrutinize the weather or the limits of the less hardy 3-season tents from other brands. My fav go-to 2P tents is the Hilleberg Jannu or Hilleberg Allak 3. I will take the Jannu if I don't know the terrain since it has the smallest footprint of a Hilleberg 2 person tent.
