- WHERE IS THE LOVE, The Four Knights, (Coral #9-62110) 1959
Flipside: THINGS TO DO TODAY - Here is one of my favorite ballads from my music collection. Through my many years of record collecting, I feel very fortunate to have collected a lot of The Four Knights’ music…fantastic vocal group!
The Four Knights were an American vocal group from Charlotte, North Carolina. Their 1954 hit, “I GET SO LONELY WHEN I DREAM ABOUT YOU (Oh Baby Mine)” sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc!
The group was formed in 1943, with an original membership of Gene Alford (lead tenor), Oscar Broadway (bass), Clarence Dixon (baritone) and John Wallace (tenor, guitar).
This line-up remained the same for much of the group’s career. They first sang under the name Southland Jubilee Singers and performed gospel music as well as vocal pop and doo-wop numbers.
Their first professional job came in 1944 on WSDC radio station, an NBC subsidiary based in Charlotte, NC. Soon after, they became featured performers on the program ‘Carolina Hayride’ which was broadcast on CBS affiliate WBT. They recorded transcription discs for Langworth Records in the middle of the decade and changed their name to The Four Knights in 1945.
Later in 1945, the group moved to New York where they appeared on Arthur Godfrey's radio show. They signed with Decca Records in 1946, releasing four singles over the next two years. They appeared on Red Skelton's radio program through most of 1948 and toured with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. In 1949, they released two more singles on the Decca subsidiary Coral Records.
The group lost its recording contract with Skelton in 1950, when its manager had an asking price for The Four Knights' services which was above Skelton's show's budget. The manager broke the contract rather than try to reach a compromise with the program. The group fired him for this since they had now lost a major source of exposure.
They signed to Capitol Records the following year, where they would remain for six years and have some 40 single releases, along with two LP’s and three EP’s. The 1951 release "I LOVE THE SUNSHINE OF YOUR SMILE" hit #23 on the U.S. pop charts. As television became more widespread, they renewed their contract with Skelton for his TV show and appeared on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’.
The late Nat King Cole also recorded for Capital Records so, The Four Knights backed him up on several of his hits!
In 1957, the group re-signed with Coral, releasing four more singles and two LPs. Their last hit was in 1958 "OH FALLING STAR/FOOLISH TEARS” (Coral #62045) which charted nationally on Billboard in January 1959 and peaked #83.
They released a few more singles on minor labels into the 1960s but had essentially quit the music industry by the middle of the decade.
I’m dedicating this upload of “WHERE IS THE LOVE” to The Four Knights as all the group members have passed on. We want to honor and recognize them for their musical contribution to the world!
Enjoy one of my favorite ballads “WHERE IS THE LOVE” by The Four Knights. It really doesn’t get much better than this! - เพลง

Reminds me of In the still of the night tune😊
Hi Patty, nice to hear from you. "BEAUTIFUL" ballad!😊
I can see why this is one of your favorite ballads, Ron! It's a great performance, and Mrs. Mint's notes are typically excellent. I was previously unfamiliar with the Four Knights' recordings on Coral, and I note that this song, "Where Is the Love," and their last charting single, "O' Falling Star" (also on Coral, as referenced by Mrs. Mint above), were both composed by Jody Cameron Malis, who later compiled and/or wrote a number of cookbooks in the Seventies.
❤❤️OH MUCH DREAM BEAUTIFUL🌹🌹VELVET🌈

Nice ballad sounds more like 1949
Hi Jack, this is one of my favorite ballads from my collection. 1949?...not sure!
Very pretty..the notes are a real bonus (I didn't follow the group, so for me it's new info to enjoy)..this has a pop flavor but can go both ways..there were '50's r n b group releases that crossed to pop and vice-versa, and they charted as well...thks
Brooklyn Mint, really pretty song. The group recorded a lot of great stuff!
Is this the same Four Knights that did that unusual sounding "La La"?
Quixote010, we have "LA LA" by The Four Knights uploaded on our channel. We do state in the liner notes that sources claim it's the same Four Knights group!
I only remember 'La La' from the Cobras., but I just searched and listened to the Four Knights version. Very, very similar to the Cobras but just not quite as good as the Cobras rendition, IMO.
The Cobras came out in around '62 but the Knights in '59 so the Cobras was a rare cover that was better than the original.
Hi Ron. A great tune. Take care
Really enjoyed It.
Bruce, always nice to hear from, you. You're right, it is a "GREAT" tune!
