When you realize how terrible of a person you were. He owned this scene.
For real
Literal gut punch…
“Wow… I’m a bad person”…
Hands down, Jack Black's best work and the best scene in this whole movie. I thought Hal was gonna cry when he finally realized just how shallow he really was. I love that he still called Cadence beautiful... heartbreaking. Jack's eyes really showed true emotion here; such a beautiful scene. Bravo, Jack... bravo.
I think you're right. Hal's realization of his shallow outlook on beauty really sunk in when he saw Cadence when his hypnosis was lifted. A very poignant film!
We need a feminist version of this movie. So many gender swap movie but this is the one that really needs to be done.
This scene was the one that made me cry. Not Hal's reunion with Rosie, but just the fact that you can see when he realizes "Ohhh....I'm a d!ck." And then still calls Cadence beautiful and the pure innocence of Cadence trying to help-
I tear up every time I see this scene.
@@pandaman1331 it should be another one, maybe one day 🥺😞
@@pandaman1331 I agree a lot with that!
the slow realization on his face is some of the best subtle acting I've ever seen, its like a punch in the gut
This is one of the only movies I can recall with a climax so quiet and subtle. This is our tipping point for the entire movie and there’s almost silence on screen
It's a beautiful scene and very well acted by JB
Hal finally realizes how shallow he’s been as a person. Throughout the film, he has been seeing the “inner beauty” of the people he meets. Because of this, Hal got to make some new friends and see people for who they are on the inside. Hal seeing Cadence made him truly understand the real work behind the hypnotism. While Cadence may have severe burns on her face, she is still the sweet little girl he met early on in the film. It’s like the old woman/ Enchantress told the Prince/Beast: “beauty is found within.”
Awesome, thanks for explaining the entire plot of the movie lol.
When he says the word “beautiful” I can not help but cry. It is so powerful for some reason. She truly is beautiful despite her scars.
Seeing how good he wa switch cadence I bet he was really good in the peace corps.
Not just beautiful despite her scars, Beautiful along with them 💜
And he wasn’t saying it to be polite he genuinely meant it cuz he can clearly see that despite her scars she is a beautiful girl cuz she has a sweet kind soul
@@bicuriousdirtbikeboi2594it's the pieces of You that make You who You are
I was moved by this scene, really showed the humanity in Hal and it made it more touching when he hugged Cadence.
After he looked at the sign , he realized how shallow he was.
This scene makes me cry. Everytime. Because he saw her beauty inside and never saw the burns til now. Fucking so emotional
This movie irks me a lot but this subplot is so sad 😭
Maybe it’s also irksome to people who know better but just… idk. Kids, man
I've spent time in burn units. It's so very hard to keep a straight/happy face for those kids.
The doctors and nurses who choose to specialize is burns are literal saints in my eyes
Not only that but he saw ugly people as beautiful. Which meant his old superficial self thought this little girl was ugly, and he realized that here.
Beautiful and almost tear-jerking scene. When he realized where he was and it all set in.. And he still called her beautiful. :')💓Great performance here, Mr. Black!!🏆
Hal is so good with kids. I’m sure he did great in the peace corps.
Not almost tear jerking! Lol I was balling 😭😭
My bestest buddy *Mr Black*
I want you to treat *Mr Black*
with as much respect as you would me
Agree.
Almost tear-jerking? Shit I cried like a baby
Truly incredible scene and acting. You can see how it just dawns on Hal falling like a curtain before his very eyes
Yes!!
Agreed 👍
The slow realization in his face when he realized how shallow he truly is , the change in his voice tone saying “Hi Cadence” … 💔
One of the best acting scenes in the history of cinema ❤
Jack Black never gets enough credit as an actor , The Farrely Brothers for the writing…
Calling her Beautiful and Hugging her makes everyone cry 😥
This scene will make you think a lot about your own visions in life and your appreciation of everyone, everything around you … 👏🏻 👏🏻 ❤️
I agree with you , one of the best scenes in the history of cenima.
This is an amazing scene. Jack is a horribly underrated actor.
I know what you mean, but all Hollywood and film viewers knows who Jack Black is, he had a great career
I'd say he's underutilised. He has very good range but hollywood loves casting him as the lovable hugeable bear
He’s great in Orange County, this, high fidelity, and Bernie
Underrated for serious roles that’s for sure.
These are the kind of scenes the Farrelly Bros don't get enough credit for.
Absolutely!!
The 55 second mark gets me. He realizes how shallow he’s been and it kills him
I know this is just a movie, but seeing this child having gone through being burned alive. Even as an adult, If my face and scalp had been burned, I would be completely consumed in my own insecurities, depression, worry of what others would think. But here she is, having been through all that she had been through and was still trying to offer Hal a solution to help make his life better. I'm beyond moved. As far as scenes of the heart goes, it's well worth an oscar....of the heart.
For a comedy, such a powerful scene
Well they are entitled to at least one
The fact that all these years later, people miss the entire heart of the movie. In this scene alone, he realizes he was unable to see physical trauma because he was so "shallow." So shallow he did what he did to "ugly" people to a child with an injury. This movie was amazing. It blended comedy with drama really well. But people flip out about Paltrow in a fat suit and miss the whole point of the movie. A movie that probably didn't even watch.
😢😢
Ugh a little louder for the people in the back👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 so glad I’m not the only one on this! Everyone’s so relied up saying it’s “fat shaming” when that’s absolutely NOT it! This scene alone solidifies the point of the movie, while cadence isn’t the perfect little girl he saw at the beginning she’s a sweet and lovely person which is what makes her beautiful and he realizes that in this moment. I’ve always said if your personality is a 10 you’re a 10 and that’s exactly why he saw Rosemary as this trophy blond under hypnosis cuz she’s a genuinely good person and then when he sees the real her at the end he still sees the wonderful woman he fell for. It’s a shame people really miss the overall message of this movie.
Exactly!!
He truly realizes the gift he was given, his heart was given a glimpse of true beauty.
Everyone forgets about this movie or groups it with the other y2k comedies of the time, but this scene really sets it apart. Jack Black’s acting in this scene is just flawless. His character genuinely doesn’t like to hurt people, and he perfectly conveys the painful realization of just how harmful is own shallowness is, not only to his own interests, but innocent victims.
I also love how the ending subverts the beauty and beast trope, where the protagonist is rewarded for loving the person on the inside with their love interest permanently getting a new, conventionally beautiful exterior.
The fact that he saw the burns on her face and still called her Beautiful! Tears! So many tears every time! The moment that he truly realized how shallow he had been but this is also the point where he realizes he needs to fix things with Rosemary and with the help of little Cadence's advice he finally finds the courage to go to Rosemary and apologize. Truly such a beautiful scene!
Scene hit different when your the one that finds out how shallow you are
That poor gurl and those kids. Burn victims. It’s heart breaking. I can’t imagine what kids that deal with that everyday go through.
I think the scene that really solidifies what message they were trying to send about this movie. When he discovers cadiance is a burn victim he was being sincere when he says “how are you beautiful?” And he sees that while she may not be the perfect looking child he had seen the first time he met her he knows that despite her disfigurement she’s a sweet and kind girl which is what makes her beautiful.
This scene is the core of why this funny rom-com works so well. This scene gives the movie weight that earlier on you didn’t think it would have. Truly powerful scene.
The 90s/2000s romcoms just hit so different. Feels like they don’t make movies like this anymore.
So true :(
back when movies are for entertainment with valuable lessons at the end of it.
From the whole movie I really liked this scene is so heartbreaking that he is been so shallow.
I wouldn’t have let that little girl go for awhile. A long hug to let her know she’s special
When you look and see yourself for who you really are and say wow I've been a giant a$#@ this whole time but didn't notice. The crystal lattice if the diamond causes total internal reflections that's what makes you shine.
No bullshit this part makes me tear up like crazy
I hate how we’ve gotten people that hate movies like this when the entire message of the movie is supporting people who are obese, physical problems, etc. it shows the outside doesn’t matter and the inside is what does.
I get teary eyed every time I see this scene.
I cry everytime without fail.
Jack Black's reaction when he realizes who that girl is always makes me emotional.
i’m imagining the whole audiences from movie theaters have cried in this scene
This was one of my first "adult" movies. I was 9. Still holds a special place in my heart
Oh man, the scene right here made me cry so hard. I was Totally was not expecting it.
The nurse. When they’re on their road trip and her and rosemary are in the car alone and you see her for who she truly is. Physical appearance wise I mean. That went right over my head when I was 12. This part. This part I got immediately and it made me very sad.
❤❤❤
As much as a bitch as she was it makes sense why she was mad Hal was holding cadence. Her burns compromised her resistance to disease and possible injuries if Hal dropped her.
Adorable. It doesn't take long to overlook burn marks on people. The last person who was severely marked was at a convention I went to. In the lobby there was a huge crowd watching him and two others (one in a Spiderman suit) breakdance to hop music or whatever the typical genre is. Great guy with an equal taste in tunes. Character triumphs over looks because it doesn't sag later in life... usually.
Very powerful scene
When I need to cry, I rewatch this.
This part is heartbreaking
Farrelly brothers are great.
They make ridiculous movies that can also turn out to have great messages.
Kingpin is also a favorite of mine
This scene makes me cry always
This movie is so underrated it’s criminal.
I saw this as an 11 year old with my Mom in a theater packed with rowdy college aged young adults. Through most of the movie they were howling and laughing hysterically but when it got to this scene everything went entirely silent. You could hear a pin drop. And then I heard people wimpering and sobbing.
Whenever I see this scene I cry every time. I am 72 years old now and I guess I am getting more tenderhearted.
Song's title is "looks aren't everything" by Handbook
Thats a remix, wheres the original?
Thank you ❤
I cried
I remember watching this scene the very first time and cried. Highly underrated movie!
extremely touching moment;
By the way, in my opinion, a very underrated film.
thank you hal for calling her beautiful ❤❤❤
They should make a sequel: Shallow Gal. Rosemary and Hal are married. Hal succeeded Rosemarys father as president of JPS after his death and they have a really shallow teenage daughter and they bring in Tony Robbins to give her the same hypnosis he gave Hal 20 years ago to only see inner beauty.
That would be nice. What kind of shallow would she be? Into looks or material possessions, money, and social status?
@@crystald.3758 I would have it being their daughter is very fixated on the outside having grown up with her peers mocking her mothers weight and like her father constantly chasing after people well o to of her league many of whom just see her as an easy booty call. She is about to start college and Hal, who never told Rosemary about the hypnosis, tracks down Tony Robbins to give her the same treatment before she starts school so she will fall for a guy who will treat her right and she won’t throw herself at asshole guys with big muscles and no heart.
It’s script time. Perfect for the current social media zeitgeist.
@@wartyrant8627 script time it is! Bring back all the old crew and I think Chloe grace moretz would be perfect for Hal/rosemary’s. Daughter
They already did. It's only half the story though, we are still waiting for the hypnosis part... it's called the Kardashians.
I cry each time I see this scene
I really love Jack Black's performance in this movie. It's not Oscar Worthy but I love the subtle expressions he gives in this scene.
Every. Darn. Time I watch this scene 😭😭😭😭
DEEP! Great scene.
I’m not crying dammit! Somebody been chopping onions
Best scene and twist revelation in the whole movie
Burst in to tears INSTANTLY
Jack Black Kali-mahed my fucking heart watching this scene.
la mejor escena de la película, como se derrumba el mundo de shallow , tener la humildad para darse cuenta de como erróneamente juzgamos a los demás y tener el valor de cambiar
I cried so hard, I'm a man and not ashamed. This is so touching
that scene always gets me 🥺😢
People talk about how this movie is so hurtful yet the message is pure and they casted a lot of people disabilities.
All you have to do is watch the end credits to see what its all about
Such an underrated movie. This scene got me sobbing everytime.
it's weird how everyone gives this movie shit now, and completely miss the point. scenes like this. singlehandedly, I think, the most heart wrenching scene I have ever seen in a movie. Jack nailed this.
This man is a national fucking treasure
This and nacho libre are my favorite jack black films. He’s very talented!
Man this part got to me. So touching.
This scene really hit me out of nowhere when I watched the movie for the first time
The most heart breaking moment in cinema history 🥺🥹
m pretty cold with a lot of things in life, missing friends who claim they miss me....not ever needing to lean on anyone for anything im going through mentally....a harshly stoic way of talking to my friends who confide in me when they are going through something....but things like this, and also, shy performers (talent shows) who are great at what they're doing and then get great applaud and get emotional absolutely wreck me.. you would never believe i am so strong in so many other places, the way my dry nasal will all of a sudden be flooded with mucus or my eyes nearly swollen red. i dont make any sounds or actually look down and cringe and cry, but my face says another story...anyone else like this?
Me. My eyes just shine when I watch scenes like this.
When I first saw this scene, it pulled on my heart string more than any other scene in any movie. The camera pan from the the Burn Ward sign to Cadence hit me hard.
This scene breaks my heart.
I'd like to think that I'm a good person. That when I see someone who's burned or born different I don't see their handicap, I see a person.
Very moving scene.
This is one of my favorite movies I watch it like once every other month. It holds a place in my heart ❤️
I saw the movie probably over a year ago, never saw it before but my ex-girlfriend wanted to watch it with me, I watched it and this is probably the scene that cemented it as such a powerful movie in my eyes, god I love this film and Jack Black's performance so much.
This doesn’t make me cry, I just think it’s incredibly sweet. He realizes that it was Cadence and even though she didn’t look as cute as before (due to the “spell”) he STILL called her beautiful. Can you imagine how her self-esteem must’ve soared when he said that? She was probably very self-conscious because of the burns on her face but when he calls her beautiful despite the fact that he can see her for what she really looks like is just so sweet!!!
Very powerful scene .:amazing effects with the background music
The makeup artists did a good job on her scars
Thanks for this high quality upload!
this scene still makes me cry. i hate that this movie gets a bad rap i think ppl get the whole point wrong
That little girl was such a beautiful spirit she helped him realize who he needed to be in that moment this scene is so hard to watch but this movies message wouldn't work without it wonderfully done
This movie really shows it’s about that’s inside not outside
This part makes me cry my eyes out!
this is a great scene in the movie. Overall very well acted and one of his top performances.
Such a good movie, indescribable, just such a great movie
Good movie one of my favorite
This is where I got my daughter’s name…. But spell it with a K since her other middle name starts with a K….
Kadence Audrey Kamille. One of my favorite movies of all time ❤️
Está escena representa muy bien cuando Hal se dio cuenta lo tan superficial que era, su cara fue poco a poco una realización de: realmente soy una mala persona 💔
Not a huge Jack Black fan but this movie and in particular this scene, is criminally underrated.
Right in the feels...
This was such a good scene.
I love this movie so much.
The full realization hits of what an asshole he was, and what he'd done for all these kids. Why Cadence was hiding behind her teddy bear 😭
Who he was to them, versus who he is now. And he understands he wants to be the person he was to them.
Great movie
I legit cried
This is my fav movie. Especially, I love this scene!😊
This scene took a lot outta me
There was a time when I didn't like Jack Black. And then I watched this scene and i realized how foolish I was. That's the greatest thing in life. You're never too old to learn.
This movie was way before it’s time
