I agree with you Eddie, no way Blake will buy PLD out. That would be an instant admittance of guilt: Lousy trade, poor judgement. Not good traits for a competent GM.

They need to trade PLD, but short of that--- not buying him out just compounds this problem that will get much worse as he ages. We all make mistakes and I understood the gamble at the time, but it hasn't worked out. Adjusting is the name of the game.

The analysis being offered is missing the mark. Other NHL teams just have superior players that make them elite and cup contenders. Kempe is the best they have, and they need higher production, such as players that reach 80-90 points at least as like other elite teams. Year after year the Kings can’t get high point producers to match up with NHL elite teams. Don’t say that a player getting 50-60-70 points is all the Kings need, when elite teams have big point scorers.
PLD is a stiff. That guy loafed all season. He never broke a sweat. He played low energy in games where he had low minutes. He has no legit excuse. When a shift happened he disappeared and was MIA on the ice. He couldn’t hustle and showed over and over again he didn’t care to play up to better output. He stole his paycheck this year.

Well said my friend but let me add to the PLD saga! I honestly can't blame PLD and the Winnipeg management for rubbing the Kings blind for a whopping 8 F*****g years plus prospects thanks to Rob & Luc aka Dumb & Dumber who are clueless and completely destroying the Kings organization! For 8Years $8.5Mill a year PLD is a total bust and the real Cancer is Blake who should've been fired with Luc after their pathetic end of season interview the worst management in the NHL!!!

That was a cute story from Karo...and thank you for pointing out ticket prices had lasted through 1991 before "Gretzky pricing" was added to an overpaid team full of big names...who never won a title for us. Of course, add 5X and you've got today's players and salaries. And-though I vigorously defend & am glad we got Drew-current players seem to be a bit haughty over their value to the team. Honestly, I thank Kopi for his years of leadership, but when we lost Brownie, we lost one of the few humble citizens who represented us on the Kings team. Eddie, thank you for keeping hockey alive in L.A. for yet another year of failure. And thanks to Karo for being a handsome, kindly source for current Kings' action. Note: there have been some terrific, homegrown young guys who rose to lead. And we had a few fellows brought in via trades that made a difference. But, overall, creating a champion has eluded us and I see no possible chance for us to sneak in. There are at least 5-10 teams who aren't even remotely impressed with our Kings' team. They come to town, blow us away-maybe visit Disneyland-and then return home. Anyway, unless blake finds a way to erase his last/huge mistake, he'll leave without any memories of him being held onto...One More Year will be the chant as overpriced tickets become a dirge, rather than a prized possession ;-)

I disagree with this man's assessment. PLD is inconsistent. He'll look like a world beater one night and he's invisible the next. He's a big dude, who is not nearly physical enough and definitely not on a nightly basis. When he is physical he impacts the game in a big way, but then he glides around the next game. How many times did he drop the gloves? How many times does he take the puck behind the net or into the corner and blindly pass it out to the slot when he's hit or pressured instead of fighting for possession? The opposing team is constantly on an outnumbered attack going the other way when he is on the ice. There is no coaching or more time on the PP that will make this guy's heart grow. Rationalize it any way you wan't, he is what he is. They need to either move him or buy him out before they are stuck.
There is a talent deficit on this team, but more to the point-- a problem with chemistry. The Kings desperately need more size on the blueline and a power forward who is physical. They need a high scoring forward, preferably at center, and they need a true frontline goaltender. They have the assets to trade, but they need to reconfigure this team so they are larger, more physical and don't have so many similar pieces. If you think just tweaking this group with a pep talk and adding a couple of depth pieces is going to make a difference-- we'll be out for the 4th straight year to Edmonton.

    Two things PLD apologists do:
    1. Say PLD did not have good linemates and
    2. PLD should be on the top PP unit
PLD started out the season with Fiala as his winger and was also on the top PP unit for like the 1st 2 months of the seaaon and failed in both regards. PLD apologists, kindly put the pipe down. What the Kings need to do is aomehow artificially inflate his stats by doing whatever they can...give him empty net opportunities or something, then trade him. Hopefully, they will find a sucker to take that lumox.

The Kings are not trading PLD. Fiala was not a good line mate. Fiala does not make others around better nor does he create for other players. That is not his game. The Kings should put Byfield and PLD together. Your post made no sense. The haters like you make less sense than what you call the PLD apologists.

@wyzmann32 sorry about that, Pierre. I didn't mean to offend you. If anything, we will try to trade you to Montreal if that makes you feel better.

@wyzmann32 oh, BTW. They almost traded PLD to Boston but Ulmark nixed the deal so yeah, they will trade him/you if they can.

    Just to be clear.
I am no PLD fan, but with PLD last season power play usage was a major issue. He played 100 pp minutes less this season in LA. 100!...
He also played behind Sciefele as the 2nd line center in Winnipeg. In LA he is playing behind Kopi and Danualt..as a 3rd line center.
And Danault only scored 7 more points than Dubois playing 2nd line center with considerably more power play minutes and had the Kings leading goalscorer on his line the entire season.
Danault also saw more critical minutes in games. Dubois had a considerable drop in critical minutes usage.
I think there is a path to get more out of Dubois. Use him the same way he was used in Winnipeg.
It's either that or sit around wondering why he had 23 points less playing in LA.
