So thats it? Thats all we are doing in free agency? How can Blake look at this roster, and be happy? We arent making the Playoffs. If their thinking well Byfield will score 30. Clarke will put up 20. Turcotte will emerge. We are doomed. You have to think Kopitar is aging, and so is Doughty. Darcey will play about the same as Talbot. 86 pts is my prediction.

The kids (AHLers) have to really step up. You can't rely via the Free Agency route because it costs more money, which limits your cap. Luc is not going to fire Blake. All or nothing between them. The owners have a laissez-faire view because they are not "hockey people" and let " Text book hip check" and the hockey draft experts "thought the player who can't skate" run the hockey show. 😅

Everyone is talking about Blake and Luc, and I agree they are terrible, but how come no one is talking about how our owners aren’t taking any action? They literally have been MIA for years. Feels like they don’t care about the team at all. I don’t think Anshultz and Beckerman have publicly spoke about the team in years

This is a good thing, not a bad thing. The last thing we need is more aircraft carrier anchor contracts when we should be cleaning the front office and starting a new rebuild.

The handwriting is on the wall that Luc and Blake will be jettison because there are smarter people than them in building up a championship contender, and these two have had way too many free easy passes in ineffective decisions and wasting cash. It doesn’t make sense for ownership to employ former Kings because the relationship is too cozy and biased. The Kings reputation with the Canadian and East Coast hockey media writers and analysts is very poor. The Kings are frequently trashed on NHL radio. The trash talk always centers on lousy ownership and Blake and Luc.

It's bizarre to me that Rob Blake was talking about being ahead of schedule when Kings made the playoffs, to only practically trading the players who got them there in the first place. I don't think as a GM, you don't want to go out and buy players, you want them raised here so they stay hungry to continue living in southern California (California weather can't be beat). Perhaps Blakecwas getting impatient or probably jumped the gun with Talbot and definitely PLD, who potentially had. Lot of upswing and didn't meet those expectations. Try QB at center and see what happens. Give these young guys a chance to play and see what they're made of.

Their biggest problem was over paying for Kopitar and Doughty! It's hamstrung them for years and still will for the next few! Had those 2 taken more team friendly contracts the Kings would have been able to add better players and maybe things would be different. While Kopi's $ amount has lessened, Doughboy's $11 million a year is way to much at this point!

Doubt we'll ever find out but I don't doubt part of the McLellan hiring issue with the Jackets isn't just about the money but that their GM promptly flipped him to a division rival of ours and Quick actually made a difference their stretch run and made the Kings look like even bigger fools for the whole way that fiasco played out. It really just tells you what state the Kings front office is in these days. They can save some money on Todd's contract at this time but they refuse to do so here and the Jackets play in the Eastern Conference so there is no advantage gained by him coaching for them.

23:59 I made a comparison to the Cardinals with Keim and Kingsbury on the first free agency video, and i can expand on that here because Steve Keim also excelled at trading (or at least, that was what he did best even when it was bad).

Matt Roy was on John Scott's podcast. Roy is this really unassuming guy and a bit dull. It was a good interview, though. Scott asked him tough questions, and he asked him about PLD and he said all that stuff about good teammate and all but he added a small nugget in information when he said, "maybe he wanted a bigger role". That's exactly it. PLD came here believing he would be the face of the franchise, and he would be hanging out with Lady Gaga, and his face would be on billboards. However, that didn't happen, so he sulked and moped and skated around like a spoiled kid who didn't get ice cream. Kopi is the #1 guy here and there aren't many out there who could supplant him in that role. Daneult is defensively responsible and every coach likes that so he played. Dubois is not at that level and he is not defensively responsible so he was moved down the pecking order. Instead of working hard to be the top guy, he wanted it handed to him. That's his personality and why he should not have been brought to LA.

Happy anniversary Eddie! To touch on fagemo.. hopefully he gets more than 10 games like we've seen when Todd was running things. Such a bummer to see guys get a call up and see them play 10 games or less. Hopefully Hiller has that patience and hindsight to let them roll like Laffy last season.

Faber was a 2nd round pick not a 1st though definitely 1st round talent, Walker didn't have a spot on the roster, and he wasn't traded for a 1st, PHI got a 1st to take Johanson's contract and Walker, and Grans is starting to look Europe bound, Blake cleared $5mil in bad cap for two 2nds and a player they couldn't use, overall a win, on Fagemo he got a shot with another team, he was claimed off waivers by NSH at the start of the season, came back on waivers when no one else would give him an NHL job, Blake hasn't done as bad a job as made out, he really has made 3 mistakes as a GM and I can in part defend 2 of them, the Cal Peterson contract had merit, though it was a small sample size, the #'s were fantastic, it just didn't work out, and while I cant defend the trade for nor contract of Dubios at least you could see why they swung for the fences, it was a fantastical miss but Blake corrected exceedingly well in a 1 for 1, all that being said I can't defend not re-signing Roy, I don't care about Clarke's offense, he can't defend to save his life, and Edmunson will not replace the loss of Roy's defensive prowess and it's made worse when the contract difference is as small as it is but I'm not on team fire Blake... yet

Faber was incredibly hard to see go, especially for a one dimensional albeit dynamic offensive talent like Fiala. Having Faber for the next 10-15 years patrolling the blue line could have been dynamic.

Byfield is a good player but is not a game changer. Byfield needs to work on his shot which is below average. If he can improve that aspect of his game, he could easily be a 30 goal and 80 point player.

Let all the toxic armchair GMs chime in. Cater to the numbers i guess. I will wait to judge until a game is played. Everyone hated on Englund before he played a shift and then he was a cult hero for a part of last season. There are a ton of bad contracts this free agency season. Wah wah wah its locked on kings.

A whole lot of futile spin, making facile statements of hope without any depth. I could tear every piece of this apart, but it's not worth the effort. Sad, Eddie. Just sad. Also, despite all the verbiage, Eddie admits that they have replaced Talbot with a goalie who did worse in WAS than Cam did in OTT, that they've suffered a net loss in offense (and Foegele's stats will almost certainly nosedive now that he doesn't have McDirty and Draisaitl to pump up the offense and take the top defense awy from him), and that the defense is significantly worse. Basically all this adds up to is "the Kings took several steps back, but maybe they'll get lucky". Good luck with that.

Byfield is not the coming messiah for the Kings at Center. He only had 20 goals and 35 assists for just 55 points, but he had loads of ice time and did extra double shifts at times. The thing with Byfield’s season is that it would’ve, could’ve, should’ve been even better. Once Jim Hiller was named as the team’s Head Coach midseason, he upped Byfield’s usage extensively. In February, that led to 11 points (4-7-11) from 12 games played. As February ended, Byfield had 18 goals. He scored just two more the rest of the season, with one coming in Game 82. Included in that stretch was a 19-game drought without a goal and a nine-game stretch without any points at all. Byfield said in his end-of-season interview that he was fighting off an illness during that stretch, so there was an explanation. But man. What could’ve been, had he either been healthy the entire season or found a way to manage things more effectively. Byfield had zero playoff goals and a mere 4 assists while having high ice time against Edmonton. I’m pulling for Byfield, since he was a 2020 1st rounder #2 overall. But, in watching every Kings game, he often was out of position, scrambling around too much , confused, and couldn’t set up enough plays. With his size, his best opportunity for points is he rotates in front of the goalie and picks up the garbage and stuffs in goals. Kopi and Kempe need to get shots in and Byfield does his thing like the best in the NHL to jam in goals up front. Because he had only 20 goals all season, that is nothing at all for a 2020 1st round pick. That low production is because he has to play the tough guy down low and jam in shots and pick up the garbage. He can’t be a perimeter man but a heavy mean butt body beating up D men. He needs to accept that he will be banged up and checked hard, but that is what the best mean butt guys do. I fear therefore the Kings are not going to use him correctly on the #1 line. Hence, he remains stuck with just 20-25 goals.

I believe you could argue that Foegle will get an opportunity he didnt get in Edmonton so he could produce more and he adds and element of physicality So he to PLD is an upgrade i believe. TJ is an upgrade to grundy and i feel turcotte and Akil Thomas are more than capable when mixed with the otrhers to fill roles the need to be filled with more upside. I hope they give Fagemo a real chance he could be a good right shot threat on the PP and i think he would fit well on the top line that is already so good defensively. Defensively yes losing Roy is tough but it was always going to happen i am actually baffled they didnt get something for him at the deadline since we all know there is no way he was getting resigned. Goalies we will see i believe Portillo gets brought up at some point either by poor play by one of the tenders or an injury

Yeah i like Austin, good hockey knowledge. Unlike others that just compare newly acquired players against the position on paper. They're like he's nowhere near the prior player in terms of points and production. Never seeing the big picture, they embarrassingly just state negatively on the outcome. Then they state what should have been done instead.

I have watched every Reign game last season. I am honestly a big Fagemo fan. Not many Kings fans give him much of a chance but i am pulling for the guy. When Vilardi broke into the league he scored 15 goals and 38 points in 39 AHL games. Fagemo coming into next season is coming off 43 goals, and 62 points in 50 AHL games.

Look on the bright side, we have a shot at the 1st pick next draft

Fire Blake!!! our team has gotten worse than last year roster, recent mistakes, PLD basically givng up on Valerde, and why get Kemper, you have someone on the farm system like Portollo, why don't give him a shot, is it that bad that you don't have any confidence in him so that means its your fault also that you drafted him. Rob Blake sucks, bringing back Jim Hiller, I mean hes a nice in all but if he didn't win or go far with last years roster what you makes you think he will do a better job this year.. FAIL FAIL FAIL
