    I am coming back to your video after watching it a few weeks ago. Thank you for your comparison video! definitely informative. I ended up choosing the A7iv. Photography is a hobby for me and I prefer the better low light performance on the A7iv. I have no regrets! Your video finalized my decision! lol

    This review is surprisingly good. I lost my a1 in a recent car burglary and am looking for a replacement at the moment. I would say the only downside on the photo side of the RV is that it doesn't give you any sound feedback when using the electronic shutter AND it blacks out unlike the a1. On the video side tho, I'm planning to use 1080p at 120fps on a 4k timeline but I wish they added 4k 120p in there.

    The rear screen is the key feature for me, I just think the A7R5 screen is very useful for so many situations.
    Here in the UK on the grey market the A7R5 is £1150 more, the way I look at it because of the extra resolution in crop mode you kind of get a extra lens ie: the Tamrom 20-40mm becomes a 20-60mm at 30mp. Plus I seem a few videos (Taylor Jackson and Manny Ortiz) comment about the improved auto white balance and exposure. They both said that the auto wb was actually useable a first for Sony cameras for them.
    My work is hybrid social media, but shooting at medium raw and only using the extra megapixels for crop mode for extra reach, I still think this camera holds an advantage over the A74.

      Hey thanks for checking out the video!! I agree with you! The A7R V is more of a complete package over the A7 IV if you need the enhancements that it offers and mostly delivers on. That’s one of my favorite parts about the Sony A7R V is that extended reach you get out of any given lens. So you’re on the money there. Thanks again for watching the video!

    8K is perfect for a B-Cam for an interview or a podcast as you can have up to 400% zoom/crop and maintain an excellent IQ for a 4K video, despite that 400% means it's 1080p. 1080p as well looks perfect on a 4K timeline and I've used 200% crops on my A7SIII to make up for the lack of a second camera and the IQ still looks pretty good. I'm between buying 1x A7Rv 1155 OMR ($3,003 USD) or 2x A7iv for 805 OMR each ($2,093 USD, $4,186 USD total) but decided to go with one A7Rv as it seems to have better thermal performance, 8K, 60MP, 240MP pixel shift that I'll use, focus bracketing that I need as well. A7iv is amazing and you can slap a speedbooster in 4K@60fps and solve the 1.5x crop issue with the same lens instead of wasting money on APS-C lenses and regain your FF framing.

      Hey , so I'm thinking of buying the A7IV and I've seen a lot of videos about this camera overheating, did you have any issues with overheating and what settings do you shoot primarily.

  • @RustyBrownPhotography
    @RustyBrownPhotography 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very well presented! I just added the R V to my kit. I already have the SLT A99-II. Adding the R V primarily because of the weight. Using my 42Megapixel 99-II for sports -- especially when using the 70-200 f/2.8 is heavy for sure. Over the course of a particular game, the bigger kit does "weigh in" on me after a while. I don't use either one for video (I use the A6400 for all my video neeeds). So the 8K video doesn't mean a lot (for me) because this R V is a photography first camera for me.
    Also - whereas I use Sony Zeiss glass for the 99-II I'm using only the Sigma Art Series lenses with the R V.
    Again - I apprecicate the breakdown you've done here; very nice!

    Greate video mate! I have one A7R5. It’s a beast. I use it in events as an hybrid camera for both Photo and Video. I’m looking for another camera. Do you suggest to get another A7RV or an A74. I want the second body on the other shoulder for 50mm or 85 mm portraits along with the close up video shot. I’m pretty much sure that the video on A7Rv is stable. I’m not sure about A74.

    • @KeepingThisTech
      @KeepingThisTech  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for checking out the video! Totally agree the A7R5 is incredible.. you can’t go wrong with another A7R5 but I would give a strong consideration to the A7IV as your 2nd body. For video at least, it’ll be cleaner in lower light situations and produce a sharper image because it’s down sampling from 7K to 4K. In a kind of way, that kit would complement each other. In terms of out put and deliverables it’ll give more options and quality.. But just bear in mind the “user experience downgrades” like the lower resolution evf, no multi angle screen, a slightly less responsive AF system, and 4K/60 1.5x crop. If you can work around those “downgrades” the A7iv would be a great B cam. Plus it’s $1400 USD less!

      @@KeepingThisTech Thank you so much for your response. I’ll consider the A7IV. One more question. By any chance, do you know if the handheld video is good in A74 with 50 1.4 GM? I am sure it’s good in A7RV, but just wanted to know. Thanks again!

    Your review ist very good and I agree to everything you Said about the photo-mode. But in video-mode the A7IV ist better than the A7RV. The reason ist that when skipping lines you get more distance between the lines. You will see a flickering of parallel horizontal lines such as blinds or roofs when slowly tilting (vertical panning) the camera. And with binning the picture gets a little bit softer because of combining 2 lines. All of the comparisons of the sharpness were made in photo-mode. In video-mode you will see a difference. That's why none of the professional videocameras like the Venice, the Burano, the FX9 and older cameras use pixel-binning or line-skipping. You will find this only in photocameras with video-mode. My conclusion:
    If photos are more important for you go with the A7RV, but if video ist your main purpose or if you are a 50/50 hybrid shooter take the A7IV.

    To buy a7r5 with tamron 35-150 and 20mm 1.8, or a7iv with 24-70gm2 and 70-200gm2? I heard sony gm lenses have superior autofocus (xd linear motor) and rarely miss the focus, where 3rd party lenses aren’tthat reliable. What’s your experience with tamron autofocus where you have to be quick to focus and capture the shot and also in low light how it’s responding? Thanks! ❤

    Great breakdown but I still can't decide. I'm a multiple subject and genre kinda guy mostly wildlife and portraiture I can't decide between the high iso of the 4 VS the high resolution or in my case ability to heavily crop with the r5. Obviously the subjects I shoot often are in low light but there also typically hard to get close to so athe ability to crop after the shot and have a printable image is important. I'm coming from the r3 so I love the cropability in post. I wish the crop mode on the r5 was down to like 33 or so instead of way down to 26! Then the choice would be easy I feel. Any thoughts on this from anyone?

    Hi G, thanks for the great video comparing Sony A7R V and A7 IV! To be honest, I cannot decide what to buy even after watching this video though. Haha Anyway, most friends of mine say that it is always better for me to buy any electric devices which are released recently. I totally agree with that and I am so into A7R V because of the flexible screen rotation, AI process unit and (mostly) no overheating issue. However, always the real problem is money. It is about 2k CAD difference in Canada. With the budget, I can obviously buy another lens, right? Frankly speaking, I am super afraid if the sensor may go wrong in case of purchasing A7 IV and it overheats repeatedly and something bad happens after the warranty is over. Do you think if there is any chance this happening? Also, how long is the camera "alive" by closing the screen on the body and recording a video? FYI, I am mostly a photo shooter, so the ratio of my camera usage is about 9:1. Please advise. Thanks again!

    • @KeepingThisTech
      @KeepingThisTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for checking out the video! IMO, you cant go wrong with either one. I would never recommend over extending ones self for any camera body even as great as both of these cameras are. That being said, if the A7 IV is comfortable for you... I'd go with the savings! An extra $2K CAD is a big deal. You could flat out save it or apply some or most of it towards lens and/or other photography accessories. Since you're mainly a stills shooter, I wouldn't worry to much about the overheating of the A7 IV.. it's mostly a problem if you're planning on recording continuous long form video.. and truthfully, even then, depending on what you're doing it may not be that bad. For example, personally for me.. If its for personal use then i can deal with it.. but I'm less forgiving of the overheating if its for client work. Regarding the reliability of the sensor, I wouldn't worry about that either. The camera shuts it's self off to protect it's self. Not saying its impossible for the sensor to fail over time, but what I'm saying is that it's not a widespread issue or concern that I have ever heard or have been aware of. I hope that helps. Thanks again for watching the video!

When shooting athletes running towards the camera with the 70-200 GM2, the hit rate is 30% in wide area, can get up to 70 % in spot tracking. In any case is totally unreliable. You can check Mathieu Gasquet's (75%) or the Northrups (90 % with strong lighting) videos based on a person walking. If the subject is running and the weather overcast, the results are much worse. It's good for portrait, but not amazing.

    Sony A74 users left behind.
    The last update update was bad joke,even the new sony A6700 seems to be better than sony my A7lV.
    At the last update, the rumors said that we would have focus stacking. In fact, I did not receive anything, as I said above, it was just a bad joke; Honestly, I don't even expect another update.

    So hard to find this video on TH-cam! A7RV is a beast and I don't recommend the camera to any amateur photographers or videographers. IMO the A7RV is designed for wedding photographers - never miss that special moment because of the focus improvements. The low light ability is insane, no more hunting for focus like the A7iv has. The noise the A7RV makes can be easily fixed while having an insane resolution, unlike the A7IV. The highlights can be brought back from -2 exposure, unlike the A7iv. The stability allows for lower shutter speeds, unlike A7iv. No overheating like A7iv. Again, if you photograph in a fast moving environment and need versatility like speed, capturing action capturing distance, controlling chaos of the streets buy the A7RV. Anyone reading this far, don't buy the A7riv it's a gimmick. Cameras to get are a used a7iii, a7s, a7sii, A7riii, maybe A7Riv (for 2,000).

      I disagree with your statement, "I don't recommend the camera to amateur photographers". I recommend buying once and crying once instead of buying two or three times and crying two or three times. It sucks making a purchase but regret not getting what you really wanted the first time. I recommend buying the best that you can within your budget. There's nothing wrong with an amateur starting off with higher end stuff and having a better experience from the start, such as higher quality evf, better aoutfocus and better lcd screen.

      I’m confused by this comment. You say you wouldn’t recommend it to amateurs but then go on to tout everything you love about it, while knocking the A7IV.

      I wouldn't recommend any high MP cameras to wedding photographers. They do shoot TONS of images per session. 61MP is such an overkill in that regard. It'll exhaust your storage very quickly, and high MP affects the speed of your workflow, including post processing as well.

    Lossless is ALL the information. It's literally in the name. It's just compressed and will require more cpu to process
