    I have heard many mention that due to A1 does not have a "dedicated AI processor" on the A7RV therefore many not be possible to have the same level of subject recognition capability upgraded. "See it to believe it" is my model so I went through the teardown photos of A1, A9 II and A7RV and examined the motherboard chip layouts and found them to be mostly identical. Imagine Sony may just make one motherboard and turn features on and off to save production cost like Tesla? Then I re-watched the product announcement video for Sony A1 and found in the section of Real-time Eye AF at 9:54 and 10:41 both were mentioned by Sony on how improved A.I. technology is been implemented into A1 for subject recognition to work with the system that tracks and focus at 120/s. I think the A1 does have the A.I. chip built in and most likely runs on a fast clock speed to accommodate the 120/s calculation so it is most likely able to implement the same or higher level of subject resonation through firmware. It really just depends on Sony's willingness to add them into the new A1 firmware to keep their top customers happy. The fact is that most A1 owners with A7RV A.I. recognition ability will most likely buy the A1 II without second thought if it comes with a Global shutter sensor anyway so Sony really have nothing to worry about.

    What you showed about the Sony A1 losing focus on an object (a person in this case) is a setup issue and not a focus issue. In order not to lose the object in focus, you should set the focus "Tracking sensitivity" to a low level. In that case the focus will be kept even if the object passes behind others. I use the camera almost every day and I don't have any issue with that.

    This comparison pretty much sums it up. I have both the A1 and A9. I guess the A1.2 will have all the new features of the A7R5, but using the current stacked sensor. This would be in line with their current policy, using the sensor for 2 generations. They may change the processor for better integration of the AI chip. Automatic sbject recognition works better on the A7R5. As I mostly select the subject to track, it's not such a big deal for me. But it looks like the stickyness, thanks to the AI chip, is better on the A7R5. Personally, I will always go for a stacked sensor with it's much faster readout.

    Does the V"feel" just as fast and responsive as the A1? I rented an A1 for a week and, when I went back to my A7RIV, that's what I missed the most! My camera felt "laggy" and sluggish compared to the A1.
    And I don’t mean the AF system or the shooting speed or the buffering, necessarily. I mean the general use of the camera. The menus, startup time, time between switching shooting modes, etc....just feels INSTANT on the A1 in a way that it doesn't on the A7RIV. Additionally, there are definitely times when you have to "wait on" the A7RIV, one example that comes to mind is that, after shooting a short burst (only 2-3 shots) of photos, I can't immediately record a video, I have to wait for the buffer to clear. (this is even when using a 300 MB/s write card, since there is a write-speed bottleneck inherent in this camera)
    The overall responsiveness of the A7RV hasn’t been mentioned in any write-ups or videos I’ve found, I’m starting to think there is an NDA Sony made folks sign to not talk about it!

    • @kingghidorah8106

      I don't think it feels faster. I've tested A6700 (same AF system as A7RV) and A7IV and the IV feels like cheating, while on a6700 you need to rely a lot on AI subject detection. I also read somewhere else that A7RV has 20 calculations per second of AF/exposure etc while A1 (same as A7IV) does 120. Not to say the A7IV/A1 are more accurate, but that they behave faster.

    I love my sony A1 and the lens selection but frankly their lack of substantial/meaningful firmware updates is embarrassing!
    Even for their "Flagship camera".
    Focus breathing compensation came out with A7SIII (OCT 2020) and still not available for the A1!!!! So I don't see the new focus stacking (A7RV) making its way to other models.

      The cost of the CF cards are really disgusting indeed. The cost to make them isn't that much higher than a regular SD card. It's just greed and abusing the fact that once a photographer/filmmaker is using a Sony camera, it's hard to switch brands. So you're pretty much forced to buy a regular SD card or a very expensive CF type A card. Unless the ones on Aliexpress are actually good.

    Are lenses able to keep up with the camera shifting focus so fast? The camera may be able to detect the new focus point but if the lens can't get there fast enough, it doesn't matter. I've seen a bunch of these videos, very well done, but usually with fast, new GM lenses. I wonder if my non-GM lenses can take advantage of the camera focusing system. For example, one favorite lens is the Sony Zeiss 50 mm 1.4 planar.

    This is pure speculation, but I get the feeling that Sony generally prefers to add new features/capabilities via updated hardware (read: new camera bodies) rather than via firmware/software updates. They clearly like to maintain separation between their models, and I think they like having each of their cameras offer completely different capabilities, such as to not cannibalize sales from any single model.
    That’s not to say they would NEVER bring those new features to A1, but it seems more likely to happen as a response to competition (e.g. Canon) rather than as a response to their own internal innovations/advancements.

One could argue that this strategy would be more defensible if they dropped the price of their flagships to be commensurate with the current market standards, but of course they don’t do that. The A1 is still full price (generally), even though it clearly lags now in some important areas by 2022 standards. In order for the A1 to truly justify holding its launch price, you would think it would need to get simple stuff like focus mapping or breathing compensation. But I will not be able to buy one however legitimate I feel about it. Mark II has to (will) add what the AR5 now has as a consolation advantage with its price.

      If you need great video first, buy an FX3. If you need speed, but not the high resolution, wait for the A9III that is coming soon. If you need high resolution, with slower speed, get this A7RV. If you want it all in one body, buy the 7k$ A1, or wait for the 8k$ A1II.

    I know you probably have not shot with the the Canon EOS R5 but as a photo camera, hold that thought on video, it and the new Sony A7RV are very comparable and the EOS R5 is two years older. AF wise that might be true based on my recent R5 evaluation. Sure the Canon is only 45 Mpixels but does have both faster Mechanical and Electronic shutter and both at less than $3900 here in the US. Have you had a chance to compare these?

    Maybe an unpopular opinion but something about the colours of the images from the a7rv just don’t feel very natural to me. I find them to be overly bright and more saturated that doesn’t match the original subject. Its the first thing I noticed in the launch video as well as some other video comparing to the previous model. However, I do not see alot of people mentioning this.

  • @RichardoBrit

    First, Sony A1 is just too expensive for what it is. I mean, the Nikon Z9 is $1,000 less and offers more (but is very large). I think it should be closer to $5,500. But it has some major drawbacks: (1) the rear screen is far too low-res and they launched it at the same time as launching the higher-res “A” versions of A7RIV with a higher-res rear screen. Why? And (2) they haven’t shown any commitment to it in terms of firmware updates. Look at the Z9 - they are on firmware 3.0 and each update has been BIG. Why hasn’t Sony updated the A1 with the features they launched in more mainstream A7IV and A7R5? I own an A7RIII and I would buy a Sony flagship if it was priced more reasonably and they were committed to it with firmware updates vs. leaving owners out to dry until they release a Mkii version.

    • @MagicWeddingPhotographer
      @MagicWeddingPhotographer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hard to tell if we’re gonna get A1 update or not. I do believe we will, but only time will tell. Pricing comparison to Nikon system doesn’t make much sense, it’s other system, the one that is dropping is sales very bad, so price of the flaship might be just aggressive pricing strategy from Nikon. Count in price and availability for lenses and that 1k difference becomes irrelevant. Nevertheless I do agree with your screen comment.

  • @fouuladvand48
    @fouuladvand48 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks for comparison. It is unblievable, that Sony didn't use the A1 shutter for the RV, as the RV is the much slower camera and needs a fast mechanical shutter due to the fact that with all the downsides of a non stacked sensor ES is not usable without big issues. I can't understand this! But one important thing about your statements: Of course it is crippled down to force people to buy the SIII. 4K60 would have been easily possible. The Canon R5 from 2020 has even 4K120 since 2x years man! Also it allows 20FPS. This 15MP more is not the reason to cripple down the cameras so much. As soon as the Canon R5 II. will come out everybody will see how Sony is making fun about their customers by crippling down the cameras. Even the R6II. can shoot 40FPS in comparison the A7IV only shoots 10FPS. The answer of Sony to your question about firmware updates is a big joke. Of course they can add focus stacking to the A7IV, they can add focus breathing compensation to the A1 and SIII as well as focus mapping and animal AF. Sony has a horrible firmware policy which makes us super angry and I spend a lot of cash into their eco system and my SIII doesn't even has features that the FX30 or the A7IV have. My old RIII never got the better menu neither even the red crosshair. You don't need a better processor to add a different colour crosshair or blue Focus peaking color mode. This is terrible! I will get myself the RV, but only because the A1 comes with this crappy low resolution flip out screen that is a clear No Go for a flagship camera.

    • @networm64
      @networm64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man I just hope sony see real customers comment about this big issue before it's too late. I'm so pissed off when I see even flagship models have been kept out for over a couple of years. Watching other brands real firmware updates for their entry to mid range models is a big big pain indeed. Sony has never ever given a single update to any crop body other than stupid minor updates which you can't even sense what have been changed at all! Why even a model like A7riva which is a 2021 model surprisingly anyway haven't got any firmware updates? Adding lossless raw or smaller sized raw and focus bracketing is not possible with older processor? I don't think so!
