If you're wheelchair-bound, you could do things like lift weights to get your blood moving. There are workable alternatives for folks whose legs either don't work or just don't work well enough.
@@Adele-195 Wasn't giving a lecture, lol. If I was giving a lecture, there'd be far, far more than one paragraph. And my response to jokes is to give an informative response, most of the time. Which, I understand how that can come across as me missing the joke itself - I'm just an oddball.
@@bolucky564 So long as there's nothing actively cutting off circulation, the only thing that really matters for blood circulation when it comes to exercise is getting your heart rate up. The circulation of your arms and the circulation of your legs isn't exactly sectioned off - it's the same pulse and the same blood running through both, so any exercise is still good exercise. Case in point: If exercising one part of your body more than the other still left the non-exercised part at risk of things like blood clots, then joggers would be at risk of blood clots in the arms. They're not. Of course, if you have any control over the part of the body that receives less exercise, then it's still a good idea to exercise that part. The reason does not have to do with blood circulation in this case: the less you use your muscles, the more they atrophy. So exercising in that sense prevents muscle atrophy, which is different from blood circulation (and is another thing that can happen with a sedentary lifestyle).
I'm a redhead and I burn extremely easely and badly, like skin peeling and stuff. And I live In Finland, where the summer lasts only like 3 months. I once burned during fall even though I was partially in the shade, nobody else who were with me weren't even slightly burned 🤷♀️
The family doctor wasn't afraid to tell me he didn't know what my skin conditions were when I asked about it and he sent me to a dermatologist and asked me to let him know my diagnosis. I respect him for admitting when he didn't know instead of making something up. It turned out to be vitiligo and eczema working together.
THIS. i have epilepsy and dyspraxia that present in a pretty unusual way. i spent ten years with doctors who told me it was hormones, anxiety, laziness, or just all in my head. if they had just told me they didn’t know, i would have gotten my diagnoses so much sooner. even the best of the best experts don’t know everything. it’s okay to admit that you’re not really sure.
@@3ntroverse i've had epilepsy in my teen years, had to spend a week in a hospital when they were figureing out why. Final answer? "We don't know" but you should awoid this lists of things.
Tangentially related but I’m a vet tech and the amount of people that get offended and/or refuse when our vets say they want to send their pet’s x-rays to a specialist is crazy. The added cost is a separate thing, but if it were me I would trust my vet more if they admitted they weren’t an expert in a certain field and wanted to refer.
My Mom is an orthopedic nurse and she told me there's no such thing as an orthopedic nurse. They're just nurses who want to give themselves a fancy title. They do the same job as any other nurse, lol.
Story time: I worked as a veterinary assistant for years, and one of the worst dog stories I heard was about a family with a 3 year old. The parents decided that they wanted to get a puppy for their kid. Great, right? The only problem was the parents had never taught the child how to handle the puppy, and would frequently leave the two alone together. The child would pick the puppy up, then drop the puppy roughly to the ground. the puppy would try to hide from the child, because being dropped like that hurt, but they were roughly the same size, so, the child could go wherever the puppy could. Well, things finally came to a head when the puppy hid under a desk, the 3 year old followed, and, because the puppy was terrified, he bit the child in the face. The parents reaction? They took the child to the ER, which, you know, good, but they also brought the puppy to the vet where the vet was told that the puppy was aggressive and had injured their child and they wanted the puppy put down. Legally, vets have to do this regardless of how the child's injuries happened, because pets are seen as property, not living beings by the courts of law in most states. So, puppy was put to sleep because of two neglectful parents who never taught their child how to handle a puppy and frequently left them alone together. In my opinion, that dog did exactly what anything living being would do if it was terrified, the child did nothing wrong because, you know, the kid was 3 and didn't know any better, and those parents should be looked into by CPS and should never be allowed to have pets again. Watch your children, teach them how to handle animals gently, and don't leave them alone together.
This poor puppy. And poor child. Both didn't do anything wrong. How can anyone think it's a good idea to leave children and pets alone without teaching each, how to be around each other? I mean, kids can be so different from each other as well. My dog loves kids, she loves to get cuddled etc. But she also wants to have her quiet every now and then. So, at a family party, there were two small kids. A boy at the age of 3-4 years and a girl (4-5 years). Both families have dogs, so you would presume the kids know how to act around dogs. But no. While the girl had learned: if the dog goes to his/her bed to rest, leave it alone. Play with it after it's rested. The boy hadn't learned that. So, my dog wanted to rest and went to her bed. The girl left her alone, even though she really wanted to spent time with her (their doghad passed away only a few month prior, if I recall correctly and she really missed having a dog). The boy though went to cuddle her etc. The girl didn't pitch in, so it was just the boy following my dog around. They eventually ended up under the table, where she couldn't get away from him. I asked his mother (again) to please tell him to stop, because my dog already showed she wanted her rest. I really didn't want to know how my dog reacts if she can't find a way out! She the sweetest thing, always beliving nothing bad can happen, so I have to safe her from herself. But you can't predict how a dog is going to react in situations like this. The boy never learned it, because their dog didn't mind (he was way younger than mine, so also very playful, and also a lot larger). But, as a parent and with knowing dogs, why don't I teach my child how to behave around dogs? Other peoples dogs? It can be so dangerous if kids don't know these things. And not just dogs, any pets, especially the bigger ones. Teach kids how to detect if cats are angry. How to decipher dog behaviour. How to understand horses, if there's any around your place. Cows, anything. You name it. It is dangerous to not know. It's not to frighten kids, but to teach them how they may approach an animal. To make them better people.
That’s awful!!! Couldn’t they just have given the the puppy to someone else, I am sure there is someone who would have loved to adopted the poor puppy, she/he/they are just doing it as self defence! Stupid parents!! It should be illegal to put down a puppy like that!
Good take all around, the parents definitely needed to be more present and not assume a 3-year-old has the same instincts as a fully grown, matured, and experienced adult. I love that you didn't blame the child, too. The brains of children that young aren't even developed enough to fully show empathy, like they neurologically do not have the circuits to complete that function. They're kinda sociopaths, but it's because the human brain is complex and takes a LOT of growing to reach its full capacity. AND, on top of that, even when the circuits are physically in place, it takes experience and good examples and training to learn how to parse the information they're experiencing and to learn how to skillfully navigate the world. It really sucks to see a living, feeling being lose its life for no reason. I can't imagine having to be the one to do it.
Mike: "Have you ever had more than 5 sunburns?" Me: *steps outside with my pasty Irish skin, gets burned in 10 minutes* Me: Let's just say the odds of me getting skin cancer are 100%
I empathize. My parents thought if I burned enough times, I'd develop a "base tan" like them. Nope. Second degree burns every summer, and one third degree sunburn the doctors had to treat (I fell asleep in the sun). I'm vampire white or lobster red, never a lovely tan. In my twenties I found out about good quality SPF lotions and stopped feeling self conscious about my paleness, so I haven't burned again! Unfortunately the damage is done and I've lots of sun spots and a few suspicious moles that had to be removed.
Im a massage therapist, and the most common advice I give is to office workers “try and get up and move around as often as possible, every half hour if you can” I am so glad to hear a doctor say the same.
At the beginning of the year I said I wanted to quit smoking cigarettes... I did it! The one good thing that came from 2020 was being able to take care of myself
My mother once got in a car with a full bladder and got into a serious accident. Her bladder didn’t rupture, but she said she had to hold a full bladder for several hours while she was being evaluated at a hospital
You are at least 60 years old! Aren't you?....even if you started smoking at 11, smoked for 35 years and didn't smoke for 14 years.....You are (11+35+14) 60.... So, sir if you are 60, or more than that, it's obvious you can't run, most people of your age, can't even walk properly.....
@@udaydixit8414 Not true buddy. Most people, like my grans for instance can walk a lot she is active and does a lot of things at home and she is above the age of 60. It just depends on people's life style apparently and how they take care of themselves when they are young.

As a dog owner, thank you for what you said about dogs and children. My own dog is a pitbull, and people go to the extreme of thinking they're devil dogs that want to murder (not true, most of them are very sweet and friendly, OR they overreact against that by acting like there can never be any danger and there's no need for precautions. At the end of the day, most of them are good dogs, loving dogs...but still dogs. And one should always exercise common sense caution where children are involved, there's just no reason not to.
But children need to be taught to respect the dog too, I'm always seeing videos of little kids climbing all over a dog, pulling on ears etc, when the dog finally retaliated its the dogs fault not the kids who was tormenting it. The dog pays with its life cos its cute how the toddler bites the dog, pokes the dog, pulls the dog, stands on the dog. Edit: pitfalls are adorable, I love their goofy smiles
I needed to find a way to work out at home in a satisfying way. I cant afford a treadmill. Pacing isn't great for the carpet. So I got out my stepladder out. Its stable and I feel more secure having something to grab as I go up and down at a speed and I just go. I save the top step to hold my phone thats playing music. Its worked out really well and that step ladder is cheaper then all the workout equipment I priced.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is not think, not wonder, not imagine, not obsess. Just breathe, and have faith that everything will work out for the best.
I don’t know if this is current anymore but if your situation is still as bad, you should complain about it. Shouldn’t be possible for students to have this kind of schedules, especially when we’re still this young. I assume you’re about middle school/high school age. If you really sit for several hours doing homework, it could be that you study inefficiently. Maybe change something about that. If the teachers don’t give you breaks, just stand up in the middle of a lesson, run to the kitchen and back. Tell them that they’re forcing you into a unhealthy lifestyle.
“Never ever leave your child unattended with a dog” more like “never ever leave your dog unattended with a child” mine child is crazy wild and doesn’t understand boundaries yet
As someone who has been a professional dog handler, I couldn't agree more with that statement. I always get so upset when I'm scrolling through Facebook and see all those videos of toddlers/babies being rough with an animal while their parent is taking a video of it. It's dangerous for the kid and disgusting that they think it's cute.
Especially young dogs. Their bite control is not as strong. (Or older dogs, who can lose patience.) Why leave it to chance, it just takes a nip on the child’s face for a lifelong injury. It’s the same as not protecting electrical outlets from little fingers.
Children can EASILY be taught to use soft hands with animals and others, it’s down to laziness and selfish parenting when they don’t. Yanking hair, slapping scratching - this shouldn’t happen after infancy, if they aren’t deaf or blind they can quickly understand what hurts others. The trouble is again lazy parents- kiddo needs to be consistently redirected.
Even with the parent present bites happen. I have 2 face scars from the same dog two different times. Neither bite would have even injured another dog as they have fur to insulate. Both bites were literally "back off/stress" snaps. The first one was just a moments inattention, perhaps distracted by my twin sister, and I cornered the dog in his crate. My mother didn't blame the dog, she didn't have him put down, but she did accept that he, unlike the other two dogs, would never be happy in the household with 2 toddlers so she found him a new home with an older retired child free couple that had a couple of acres.
@@LetsBeClear87 Young children need constant reminders to learn something, even when it comes to rough behavior/play. Especially children around 2-3 years old. It's the way their brains work. You can't expect a child that age not to tease a dog simply because you told them not to. You can constantly remind them, but it will still happen. Teaching children is a process. Even with excellent parenting, most children won't have it down until 3-5 depending on their personality. And of course, children with things like autism, ADD/ADHD, etc might need further guidance after that age. This is why a young child should never be trusted unsupervised around a dog, especially a big one. It isn't simply a matter of parenting, lazy or no. It's a matter of childhood development. Neither the child nor the dog can be fully trusted to understand the consequences of rough behavior.
I get that he said the psych/mental stuff was maybe too specific and strict for most people, but for those of us with certain mental disorders, routine and structure are imperative and even lifesaving. My life falls apart as soon as I don’t have a routine
This. That may sound like a "boring" life to the average person, but for those of us that are hyper-sensitive we're already constantly over-stimulated - we don't need any more "excitement" in our lives! Also re: caffeine and alcohol, I think the psych consult's advice was pretty reasonable. if you drink something like coffee every day, you build up a tolerance so it doesn't work anymore, then you have to drink more to get that extra boost, and then *that* becomes your new normal, and so on, in a vicious cycle. You're not "enjoying" it at that point, you need it just to feel normal. So it makes sense to save things like caffeine for specific situations, like if you need to get up earlier or stay up later than usual for some reason.
Every doctor I go to: ”How much exercise do you get each day?” Me: “Not much, really.” Doctor: “Didn’t you say you spend all day at your job walking around and lifting stuff?” Me: “Oh, non-intentional exercise counts? Then yeah, I get HELLA exercise, I just don’t want to.”
Same XD I'm on my feet for an 8-hour shift, to the point of working up a sweat 5 days a week. I carry heavy boxes, run around like a chicken with my head cut off, and do repetitive motions very quickly to make a time deadline. I think that's enough exercise for me, thanks. Whenever the doctor asks the exercise question, I tell them I work.
Yeah my mum's boyfriend does construction and renovation, and as a side hustle he does forestry stuff and sells firewood. He's really buff even though he never goes to a gym, and he's almost 60 lol
This is no small thing. When I got a graduate job as a statistical analyst and stopped stacking shelves 5 days a week I must have gained about 5kg in that first couple of months.
Ikr.. I'm pretty sure there have been summers as a kid where I got 5 sunburns in that summer alone. I'm 20 now and I've had a minimum of one sunburn every summer.. this is all despite my mother absolutely slathering me in sunscreen and a giant hat and trying to keep me in shade as a kid. Oh the woes of being ginger.
I have albinism so my skin is much more sensitive. Outside for less than 30minutes I had a major burn in my face and body. Mind you I put 100 spf on. That's when I was five at a family reunion. 14 now I get at least 3 every spring, 4 every summer and 2 or 3 fall and winter. I am in danger
Partially a ginger and I'm laughing in general because not only do I live like a vampire, I apparently don't burn easily. I was forced to be in the hot sun of Hawaii alot in 2001 and I was tan but not burnt. 😅
Doctor Mike: "Do you have over 50 moles? High risk of cancer." Me: *trying to ignore the over 200 ones on my body and accepting that I am going to die*
Everybody in my family has hundreds of moles, no one has ever had skin cancer, and we go to the beach all summer long living in Italy. Just put your cream on, don't lay in the sun from 11am to 4pm and go in for a check up every 3 to 5 years just to be sure. I think pollution is a bigger problem, I would never live in a big city
Your point about asking your doctor about how many times they have performed the procedure is so important at least for me because I had this huge horror story about my doctor. I once had to get an ingrown toe nail removed when I was 11 and like 20 minutes after they were done I already felt the numbing going away but I thought I was just making it up but I just ignored it but by the time I got home I was in so much pain I was screaming at the top of my lungs. My parents just thought I was being dramatic so they just ignored it for a few days then they finally listens to me and we went to another doctor and they told us I wasn’t making it up and it turned out they BURNED my toe really bad when they cauterized it and it was basically a botched procedure. It literally hurt so bad I had to have crutches for a few days because I couldn’t bare to walk. Do your research on your doctor’s!!!
I've gone from falling in love with the "hot Instagram doctor" to falling in love with Dr Mike's brain and patience for breaking important topics down for us. Honesty the best love story to ever exist.
After watching a lot of videos of him, my brain acts like I cannot see him as the hot doctor anymore. Weird because in the beginning I was drooling over him. Now he's just a doctor youtuber in my eyes, who helps bringing awareness. The Dr. Dilshad, on the other hand... ❤
"higher risk of cancer if you had over 5 sunburns in your life" I get a sunburn if someone's teeth are unusually white and are in a 10 ft. radius of me.
End of Life Care is so important!! Recently, my 61 yo bestie wasn't able to get a transplant, and she passed at home. We had a quiet celebration with her, ate and drank all the things she wanted (in very small portions), listened to music, lit candles and loved on each other. She didn't tell us what she wanted; we just made up what we thought she wanted, and it was a beautiful experience. We all bonded together and have each other and all our memories of her, to remember her by. She left no will, no estate planning, etc so we just did what to we thought shed like. Make your wishes known, and have t all documented. Her daughter, while mourning, had to deal with estate issues, probate, etc. Terrible.
I had a specific OB/GYN assist in my second c-section; my first was an emergency and left a LOT of extra scarring because the surgeon was inexperienced and she rushed too much. I am grateful that I was able to get the first one since I was in life threatening danger but the thickness of the scar made the second one more complicated.
When I was in my early 20's, I loved going to the beach and baking in the sun for hours. By the time I was ready to go home, I was as red as a beet! Even though it has been so many years that I no longer lay in the sun, I was recently diagnosed with two skin cancers, one on my face and one on my upper-right arm. Luckily, they both were basil carcinomas, which are the "slow-growing" skin cancers!
I got burned sitting in the car on a family trip. The windows were tinted too. :( . I now keep an arm sleeve in my driver side door with my back up SPF lotion (in case the one in my purse runs out...or the one in my desk ...or gym bag).

Yess! I do sociology at GCSE in England, I am 15 and know that people with lower incomes tend to eat unhealthier because healthy food is expensive. Healthy food needs to be made affordable for everyone.
The strange thing here is that healthy vegetables should be less costly to produce, because to create meat you need to let a plant grow first and then feed it to an animal, that poops and breathes out a big part of the plant.
exactly please, it's not right to only be able to find chips as salty snacks in supermarket. Come on even a city as big as Hong Kong. We got to do better
The issue is less affordability and more so education. Healthy food is not expensive. Meat is expensive and having healthy food pre cooked is expensive. You want to eat for cheap and healthy the only way is to cook. This whole "cant afford to eat healthy" thing is false. A bunch of bananas cost a £1, burgers cost £5. People just believe whatever BS supermarkets throw at them
@@Stettafire true. People find it easier to eat out. If u cant afford pots and pans, oil onions, gas and electricity, you cant afford to make anything. Some people have a set amount of gas, elecand heating each month. When that runs out, they cant top up. They will be cold in winter, and cant use a stove, oven, microwave or toaster ect. So yes health food may be affordable, if u cant cook, u eat out. But I hear what u r saying.

I use a wheelchair and had a professional caregiver accompany me to a doctor appointment. I introduced my caregiver and he said she was his doctor too and had convinced him to stop smoking, She was like "Really? What did I say?" He said that she'd said "Well, I was going to listen to your lungs, but I can hear them from over here. You've *got* to quit smoking!" The doctor was mortified that she'd been so snarky, but my caregiver said that's what he'd needed to quit. I am proud to have her on my team!
Going out for a walk? But there are people outside! I turned sedentary when I stopped working because of my second burn out. I'm kind of addicted to the stories I tell myself, I could spend days in my bed just doing that. It's really hard for me when I'm on a good story to break it off to do something. I enjoyed the covid lockdown we had, because I wasn't obliged to go out that often, there were much less people walking around if I had to go out, and I was not obliged to socialize. It actually helped me, I wasn't as anxious about people talking to me on the streets, wasn't freaking out about any social situation that could have happened. It's only after 10 months that I thought it would be great to get a hug from a friend again. Before that, I was working as the head of a cocktail and rum bar on med-fantasy festivals all across Germany. I guess I went way beyond what I could deal with for way too long. The break was more than welcome. Now, as an occupational therapist, I also know it's important to move. But I lack self discipline. I often think about getting a dog, because that would oblige me to get out with it a few times each day. But financially, it's not really possible (even if someone was offering me a dog, there's the food, the veterinarian costs, taxes, ...) and also... I'm working on getting back to work slowly (I start a rehabilitation program next month), and I think it wouldn't be fair for the dog to let him alone at home for so many hours five days a week. But watching your videos a lot seems to get me some motivation back, so I started going on my home trainer two days ago and do some exercises on the mat. Hopefully it will last this time.

I suffered from a prolonged depressive episode (months) and was sleeping 16 hours a day, only getting up to use the bathroom. Barely ate, drank water and/or beer (when I was able to get out of bed for an hour), and suffered from a TON of back, neck, leg pain. Movement is the key! In my depressed state, even a 10 minute walk could've helped a lot.
OH. Welp- Ive been diagnosed with MDD yet keep forgetting about it somehow T-T I keep forgetting that "I was asleep all day because I was sad" is infact, not normal and a depression episode
Story time: I used to go to therapy here in the USA for about three years (9th grade to 11th grade). I was first diagnosed with anxiety, then was finally properly diagnosed for the depression I was showing symptoms for (they were quite obvious), and then they kicked me out, or let go, as they called it, because quote "I didn't have the will to change". It wasn't until I started seeing my recent doctor that I figured out that I have ADHD. Once my doctor heard the story about the therapy clinic I was let go from, he was appalled, and right away did his best to get me the medication I needed to help my mental health (anxiety and depression and ADHD). The medication has been helping, though it took a while to find what worked for me (buspar messed with the signals between my brain and body, making me involuntarily move my hand whenever I typed on the computer, so we decided never to use that again).
That's a big oof. It sucks because that exact response to your ADHD is why you now have anxiety. They literally programmed your brain with junk beliefs due to their inaptitude with the disorder. Luckily, now you know you can unprogram what they did to you and basically fully recover and live the life you deserve.
@@skydragon84 ADHD has a large genetic component, meaning it is very likely it runs in the familiy and it's a disorder you're born with. Depression is slightly different, the genetic part is how sensitive you are to becoming depressed. So even if you have "bad genes" it is still possible for you to never get depressed.
"Never become sedentary," *Nervously looks around* *Remembers I started moving around and looks down at the watermelon I'm eating," Doctor Mike what have you done to me?
ckv RN, that might not be possible, because, for example: Case Scenario, you are traveling to work and have taken the subway for about one to two hours to get to the building where you are employed, and your office is on the 20th floor. Unless there's a restroom in the lobby of the building, you have no choice but to get into the elevator, and take it to the 20th floor! Then, if you still have the time, you could use the office restroom. LOL!
Re: cigarettes - it always seems to me that there's a significant amount of smokers among hospital staff, which surprises me every time. Seems like they should see the bad side of it all the time during their job.
Geriatric nurse who also smokes cigarettes here: we do, but quitting smoking whilst working in a heavily stressful job is hella hard. Tried it a couple of times, now I mostly smoke when at work and barely ever in my time off.
Being a medical professional of any sort is super stressful. Its really difficult to quit when you're devoting so much of your time and emotional energy to work
Having addicted parents, I actually threat to remove their cigarettes. They always say “yeah, I’ll go and try to quit”. I really can’t remember when they said that, and they still haven’t quit. I seriously understand how difficult it is to quit, and I’ll never smoke.
Dog & toddler dad here: Doctor Mike makes the very important point here: never leave a dog unattended during contact with an infant. A dog is a very social animal and if they are left on their own to deal with situations they will likely fall back into their pack behavior, meaning, they will show the "human puppy" that they do not necessarily want their company. First they will likely just leave, then they will growl and if both very clear "leave me alone little one" behaviors (at least for dog-dog interactions these are very clear), there is a chance they will bite the little one away to put their paw down (end of dog behavior lecture). Our dog is energetic, yet very careful with kids, nevertheless we would never leave her unattended when dealing with ours or the children of anyone else. However, and this is the point I would like to make, children should make contact to animals in a controlled and safe way, since it is beneficial for building empathy and compassion towards other living beings and it sparks curiosity for nature in all its ways.
I'll be honest I'd be more worried about the kid poking my dog's eyes out or some rubbish. But yeah, 100% don't leave toddlers and babies alone with dogs. Bad idea
Apparently, right after I was brought home from the hospital, my mom and dad's Great Dane was so overprotective of me that he wouldn't let my mom near the bassinet. She had to throw dog treats down the hall so she could look after me. (That obviously doesn't mean leave your baby alone with a dog.)
@@Stettafire I got nipped by a dog once when I was little. Thankfully it wasn't a full-fledged bite and my parents were right there to make sure I was okay. They then explained that no, dogs really don't like it when you put your face in their face, so don't do that.
Even many older kids really don't know how to interact with dogs and shouldn't be left alone with them- mainly those that weren't raised with them. My mom runs a daycare and has had to teach a lot of kids to be gentle, stop pestering them when they want to be left alone, not be intimidating, etc. And dogs may give off more subtle warning signs than a growl.

I texted a family member today about my final wishes because of one of your videos. It was kind of an awkward discussion because I have a history of depression, but after i made it clear that this was just a precaution to make things easier should the worst occur and not anything sinister, she agreed that it was sensible. Always let someone in your immediate family, your roommate, doctor, whoever would find out quickly should you be hurt know what your wishes are in the case that you can't speak for yourself. It's a nightmare to make someone have to figure out what you would want if you're in a medical emergency or dead. Give your loved ones the gift of knowing they're doing what you would want with your organs/possessions/vegetative body/remains.
The tip about asking doctors about their experience level reminds me of a story. I was at a routine check up with an eye doctor and I asked her to check for macular edemas because at the time I took medication that heightens the risk of them. That macular edemas were a common side effect of this medication was new to her despite having multiple patients who took the same medication. What I take from this story is that it's really important to advocate for yourself as a patient. Helping educate patients so that they can advocate for themselfs is something I'm hoping to do later as a career.
On the subject of avoiding addictions: I have a highly addictive personality, so I need to periodically go periods without certain things I enjoy in order to keep it from becoming an issue
I understand the end message about movement being helpful in many cases. However, I’ve been to a doctor (GP) who, when I described progressively painful joints the longer I did activities, just kept repeating “walk longer” and “exercise will fix EVERYTHING that’s wrong with people these days.” Believe me I pushed back and discussed her lack of diagnosis, to no avail. Six months later I had my first anaphylactic reaction to nuts, and after the allergist’s diagnosis, cutting all nuts and peanuts out of my diet solved my joint pain because the nuts were causing widespread inflammation. The GP’s advice to walk more was like telling someone with a sprained ankle to get moving. That GP would probably have been just as adamant about “increase exercise” when, a decade later, my feet grew incredibly painful throughout the day with activity. The additional exercise would not have cured the peripheral neuropathy I was diagnosed with. Luckily I stopped seeing her after that “exercise will fix everything” visit.
I always hit the bathroom before going anywhere for more than short trips. I once sat for 3 hours on the interstate (behind what I later found out was an overturned oil tanker); I had left work with a mild urination urge but wanted to beat rush hour traffic. Btw, I also empty my bladder if I can before a code comes in if I have any urge. Lessons learned. 🤣. But you are right, instead of emptying the bladder: wear a seatbelt, drive responsibly, be aware of other cars, leave room between your car and the one in front of you.

If you're wheelchair-bound, you could do things like lift weights to get your blood moving. There are workable alternatives for folks whose legs either don't work or just don't work well enough.

That’s awful.
This both angers and hurts my soul…

Goes with every animal tbh
But children need to be taught to respect the dog too, I'm always seeing videos of little kids climbing all over a dog, pulling on ears etc, when the dog finally retaliated its the dogs fault not the kids who was tormenting it. The dog pays with its life cos its cute how the toddler bites the dog, pokes the dog, pulls the dog, stands on the dog.

For me it's the opposite, too much routine makes me feel like i lack freedom in my life, and makes me feel like a prisoner
Same. I have a wombo combo of ADHD and autism so routine is very important, but being spontaneous is what my brain defaults to

Everybody in my family has hundreds of moles, no one has ever had skin cancer, and we go to the beach all summer long living in Italy. Just put your cream on, don't lay in the sun from 11am to 4pm and go in for a check up every 3 to 5 years just to be sure.

Peeing before getting in a car seems like just good advice in general.
I've gone from falling in love with the "hot Instagram doctor" to falling in love with Dr Mike's brain and patience for breaking important topics down for us. Honesty the best love story to ever exist.

Even though it has been so many years that I no longer lay in the sun, I was recently diagnosed with two skin cancers, one on my face and one on my upper-right arm. Yess! I do sociology at GCSE in England, I am 15 and know that people with lower incomes tend to eat unhealthier because healthy food is expensive. Healthy food needs to be made affordable for everyone.
They also work a lot more for less revenue thus having less time to eat home made meals and taking care of themselves
The strange thing here is that healthy vegetables should be less costly to produce, because to create meat you need to let a plant grow first and then feed it to an animal, that poops and breathes out a big part of the plant.
exactly
please, it's not right to only be able to find chips as salty snacks in supermarket.
Omg you’re so refreshing. You’re the one social media health person that I can listen to without my health anxiety increasing because you’re so good about giving balanced realistic advice.

"Never become sedentary."
We have a saying in filipino, rhymed; Galaw, galaw baka pumanaw.
Meaning, Move, move or you'll die.
OH. Welp- Ive been diagnosed with MDD yet keep forgetting about it somehow T-T
I keep forgetting that "I was asleep all day because I was sad" is infact, not normal and a depression episode

Also Thrive Market: $18/lb walnuts, $120 chicken.
With doctor's wage it is affordable...
I looked into it also and thought the same. Also having severe dietary restrictions, there just weren’t very many choices for me.
What the hell kind of chicken is 120$ ?!
Xeclar I wouldn’t pay that much for a chicken, unless it came with gold.
Well, in all fairness, those chickens were college educated. I had an English major last night with stuffing and salad; it was delicious.
@@drakesilmore3760 Harder than it looks though.
Thank you for making my terrible day brighter with your words. :)
The depression I have seems to be genetic, so I think the ADHD is too.
@@drakesilmore3760 I was having an awful day until I saw your comment. Thank you so much
@@skydragon84 ADHD has a large genetic component, meaning it is very likely it runs in the familiy and it's a disorder you're born with. Depression is slightly different, the genetic part is how sensitive you are to becoming depressed. So even if you have "bad genes" it is still possible for you to never get depressed.

Train those pelvic floor muscles.
ckv RN, that might not be possible, because, for example: Case Scenario, you are traveling to work and have taken the subway for about one to two hours to get to the building where you are employed, and your office is on the 20th floor.
It's an addiction, so it's going to need a bigger push than that sadly. Having a want to quit is only the first step.
3:52 I’ve thought of it a million times before seeing these videos on your channel. Real scary thought cannot lie.
And toddlers do not yet know that dogs or cats might be dangerous when provoked.

"There is no shortcut to good health." I like this guy.

This man makes me so motivated. He makes me leave the mobile and go to study. Thanks Doctor Mike for helping me .
He’s so energetic lmao it’s honestly a vibe
I always hit the bathroom before going anywhere for more than short trips. I once sat for 3 hours on the interstate (behind what I later found out was an overturned oil tanker); I had left work with a mild urination urge but wanted to beat rush hour traffic. Btw, I also empty my bladder if I can before a code comes in if I have any urge. Lessons learned. 🤣.
But you are right, instead of emptying the bladder: wear a seatbelt, drive responsibly, be aware of other cars, leave room between your car and the one in front of you.
