I think they did the ‘ghost’ concept better than the play did. The ‘ghost’ was appropriately used to obtain closure as opposed to create controversy…it was clear that the ghost didn’t have its own storyline, it was only there as a part of the Queen and Charles storyline. That’s why it wasn’t corny. It could have been WAY worse.
I feel like the firm rang up Peter Morgan. They very subtlety put Charles in a goid light. He makes peace with her on hus last encounter wither her when he picks up the boys, tells her he's proud of her for her landmine work. Kisses her on the cheek. He crys when she dies, he fights for her not to brought back in a Harrods van. He is a kind dad, Camila is shown as patient and sympathetic to the situation. We don't see any of the reasons why Diana's brother was seathing with anger. Its also a very subtle point, Diana tells Dodi she doesn't love him and no to marriage, but her ghost tells Charles she loves him so deeply. Meaning Diana only gave her heart to Charles so he cant be that bad. But this is all fictitious. Paints him in a non overt way as not such a bad guy. Also, there is a line in one of this seasons episode where someone says how Queens death will leave a huge void. No wonder they don't need a disclaimer, the show is a marketing campaign.
i would like to say that i personally felt the same as you ; thank you for sharin your point of view, i am glad i was not the on my one feeling the shift in charles' representation and how they tried to made him a likable character :)
But some of that about Charles did happen. Multiple sources comment that he cried when he learned about her death, and he did fight for her remains to be brought back in an official royal capacity. His grief could have been for many reasons: sadness that a woman had been cut down in her prime, concern for what it meant for his sons, genuine sorrow over a woman he had loved once, regret over their failed relationship, and yes, worry for what this meant for his relationship with Camilla. Those were all valid emotions, and they probably all were part of how he felt.
No, all this is true. Charles was the one to fight for giving Diana a state funeral. Diana’s brother never cared for her while she was alive. He didn’t even let her live in Spencer property. He even sold her off to Bashir who fraudulently took that Panorama interview. Even after divorce, Diana said that she would happily go back to Charles if he ask her back once. Btw, what did you expect? Charles hiring assassins to screw Diana’s car and after the death, Charles and Camilla sharing a devilish laughter?
@bethanyhait6880 ppl crying might mean anything, ppl cry out of guilt, ppl cry when. They think they will be blamed and hated too. So his tears may have been about self preservation more than any love for Diana. Charles has never publicly said he loved Diana. Right from their engagement he could never bring himself to say it. He admired her a mother but he never truly had any love for her. Yes, Diana may have loved him, but that isn't the point, why is Charles painted as such a victim in this. There is a lot of issues with these inquests, there is possibility there was fowl play. Her brother did care, and was tricked by Bashir. This has been proven. The reality is we see very little of the only 2 ppl who really were in pain , the children. The royals were concerned about their image, they were concerned about Diana dating Dodi and what that looked like, we even see how Charles is frustrated that the Queen won't acknowledge Camila. I really don't think he cared. After the way Camila treated Diana and the things she said to her early in the marriage. She is a heartless cow. He is also a spoilt mummy's boy. They were happy Diana was out of the way as it meant she would stop being the centre of attention
I didn’t look at it as Diana appearing as a ghost. If that was how the writers had meant it she probably would have mentioned her children. I think this was more a memory. Prince Charles and The Queen were realizing the mistakes they made while she was alive and the regret they felt knowing that nothing could be done to change it.
I thought it was ghost. I love your channel where you give an explanation and the meaning. Strange as I am dealing with thinking what I wish was said to my aunt before she passed away.
Although season 6 marks the conclusion of "The Crown" series, it's important to note that the season itself has not yet concluded. The remaining six episodes are set to resume on December 14, 2023.
Events to cover including but not necessarily limited to the deaths of Princess Margaret and then the Queen Mother within weeks of each other, 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, 7/7, William and Kate, Charles and Camilla's wedding, and foot-and-mouth disease.
No. After Diana’s death Charles must’ve truly regretted the way he treated Diana during her life, and as the quote in the show goes “I won’t let her down in death”. Charles pushed for the state funeral, Charles pushed to bring her back on the royal jet and sent her off in the way befitting of a Queen Consort and that of the mother to the future king…
The term "ghost" is inappropriate. Not sure what a better term would be but it gives a false impression to potential viewers that the show is doing some cheesy "Diana revenge haunting" thing. It's not that at all. It's key characters doing what every grieving person does - imagines having a final conversation with the deceased. "If they were here now what would they think of all this". I think the show handled it very well. I'm glad I watched the episode without seeing any of the commentary about it prior. The Diana death episodes are very sad but the only time I came close to crying was when the men walked behind her coffin, when Phillip told William, "they're not crying for her, they're crying for you".
I read that when Charles kissed Diana in the morgue on her check blood suddenly flowed on the white sheet from her opened chest. It freaked him out and he broke down.
I liked that they gave Elizabeth more screentime after Diana's tragic death. Although having her appear as a ghost might be a little corny, it gave the Queen and Charles more closure, and to process their grief.
Great to bring her back as a vision weve all lost people we wished we could see on more time lvd plane scene ..elizabeth deserves an award with her fab portraysl
I don't think she was appearing as a ghost per say. It was the characters own subconcious appearing as Diana. Charles and Elizabeth were speaking to their memory of Diana and in some way to their inner selves. If it was Diana or Dodi's ghosts then I'm pretty sure Dodi would have told his dad "Hey Diana said no when I proposed".
She wasnt a "ghost" at all. Not even suppose to be anything like one... She was the memory to each character. When "she" tells Charles her love for him is over now, it wasnt Diana saying that, it was Charles realizing it. When "Diana" encouraged Elizabeth to be more public, it wasnt "diana", it was the Queen being inspired by Dianas memory. Was also suppose to show the queens spite to Diana and her shame for still having it even though she was gone.
It's so ironic that haters see them as real people yet think that they have the personality of old-fashion characters from a soap opera. I looked up to Diana growing up and still admire her, but I don't think Charles is that numb.
I enjoyed it. I do not like how they insinuated that her death was Dodi or his father’s fault. They are saying the reason she went to Paris in the first place was because of their manipulation. Pretty scathing beings they are both dead and cannot say otherwise
Mohammad Al Fayed was indirectly responsible. He boasted he had special forces body guards to protect her. He lured her to his yacht for a laid back vacation only to send his son in to try and woo her. He told the paps where she was so they could get photos of her with Dodi and suddenly shots of the two were going for $250M. His driver got behind the wheel when he was drunk and the car they put her in had been purchased preowned having been wrecked and totaled by the previous owner which is why the seat belts were broken. His security team shouldn’t have been driving her all over town to begin with. Bottom line, had he let her go home when she wanted to she’d still be alive. After she died he spread rumors that she was pregnant and engaged to Dodi and spent the rest of his life trying to prove it was the RF who caused her death because he couldn’t live with his own guilt. He was vile and used Diana to pump his own ego and as a means to gain UK Citizenship.
I agree. I also didn't like the ominous tone of the father and son plotting to get Diana to marry Dodi. Many parents try to matchmake for their children, and many children marry people solely to impress their parents, or secure family resources. Is it right - no, but this show portrays the Fayed's as these evil clout hunters, who basically hunted, then killed Diana. It's just not as evil as all that. Yes I'm aware the father was obsessed with being accepted by British aristocracy, but a lot of people are. Social climbing, even in the extreme, doesn't make someone a monster. Bottom line, what killed Diana was extremely reckless driving by a driver who was impaired. Period. Every second Diana spent in cars speeding on city streets just to escape photographers was a disaster waiting to happen - wouldn't be surprised if she had close calls over the years. There were a hundred other people on Dodi's/the hotel's staff who could've driven that car that night, if Henri Paul had just acknowledged he was drunk and gotten a replacement. Or if everyone in the car agreed that being safe was more important than outrunning the photogs. People have trouble accepting that such a prominent person could be taken out by something so banal, so they ascribe meaning, motives and conspiracies that aren't there.
@@fudgicle1427 - According to Hugo Vickers, long time Royal Biographer, who wrote an earlier book on the authenticity of the first two episodes of “The Crown”, the series gets most everything right about Mohammad Al Fayed. He was a plotting social climber and very much wanted Dodi to be with Diana. Just as he bought Harrods to get access to the late QEII, he bought the Jonikal for the soul purpose of entertaining Diana. That last weekend Diana was very bored and told her butler, Paul Burrell, that she wanted to come home but the only route was via the Harrod’s jet and she had to stop in Paris so Dodi could do some business for his dad. The interview with Paul is included in a documentary done for the 25th anniversary of her death. Di told Paul that Dodi had given her a lot of other jewelry and they speculated the engagement ring would be forthcoming. Dodi did go to the jeweler in Paris on their last day and she had the ring on when she was taken from the wrecked car but there is no confirmation beyond MAF’s statement that they were engaged. Her friend also said she had no intention of marrying Dodi. The driver who picked Diana and Dodi up from the airport was Dodi’s regular full time driver. He drove them multiple places including MAF’s Windsor apt, Dodi’s apt, a restaurant and then to the Ritz. They were dealing with paps due to the increased interest in Diana because of her supposed relationship with Dodi and the high price paid for photos of the pair. It really doesn’t make sense why they left their safe room at the Ritz and went back out knowing what they were going to face. Henri Paul was in the bar when Dodi was planning their evening departure out the back to avoid the paps and tapped him to be their driver for that purpose. While it was the ruling of the inquest into the deaths that Henri Paul and the paps were to blame, there are still people who swear to this day that he wouldn’t have driven drunk. He was on a high does of anti depressants because of his mood post divorce so obviously that impacted his sobriety. I agree with you he should have opted out and we’ll never know why he didn’t. With regard to the intent of Mohammad Al Fayed, he was as bad as they made him seem. Tom Bower, the author of “Revenge” wrote a bio on him and left no stones unturned. As far as Dodi is concerned I initially thought he did what he did to please his dad and that it was Mohammad who insisted he break his engagement with Fisher but it was in fact Dodi who broke it off and had no qualms about it. Furthermore, he was basically a playboy living off of his father’s money and his involvement in the movies he supposedly produced was usually hanging out on set snorting Coke. He was asked to leave during the shooting of “Chariots of Fire”. The various producers put up with him and gave him honorary producing credits because he secured the money from his cash cow father. Dodi was known to aggressively pursue young starlets like Julia Roberts who he met during the filming of “Hook”. He supposedly pursued Tina Sinatra, Brook Shields and Wynona Rider as well. He had a reputation for stiffing creditors, trashing hotel rooms and spurning women. At one point he was married for less than a year. By all accounts he had no real direction in life and didn’t actually own a home or apt. They were all in his father’s name. Finally, Mohammad was as much of a hypocrite as he was a social climber. He actually wanted Sydney Johnson terminated from the Ritz because of his skin color but once he found out who he was he employed him and they did become close. He didn’t want Dodi to marry Kelly Fisher because her family wasn’t wealthy when in fact her father was successful and she came from a much more affluent background than MAF did. Finally, when the RF refused to communicate with him after the accident, stopped patronizing Harrods and canceled all of the store’s Royal Warrants he spent years accusing them of killing Diana and Dodi. He testified under oath that Diana told him on the phone she was pregnant and he continued to tell that story and insist she and Dodi were engaged for the rest of his life. He erected a creepy monument to them at Harrods with life size statues of the pair dancing arm in arm. He also testified under oath that Prince Phillip was a Nazi, the RF was the Dracula family and said that Charles was involved in plotting the accident so he could be with Camilla. Obviously Diana had shared her thoughts with him but the fact MAF continued to stir the rumors after her death only served to tarnish her character and hurt her sons who were the most important thing to her. So yeah, Mohammad clearly used Diana in life and in death. In the end he couldn’t admit that his own arrogance was largely responsible for his son’s death. Whatever Dodi’s true motives were it is sad that he lost his life.
We will beg to differ on this, I’m afraid. The episodes around Churchill, Blunt, Wilson, and Thatcher, among many, put this dross in the shade. For all its flack, GoT season 8 had 2 stunning episodes, and fell at the last, here, a soap opera screenplay, stretched over 4 repetitive episodes, left season 6, falling at the first.
What a very poorly shot episode it would have been great if only we could have seen some pictures clearly the whole thing was shot in the bloody dark. And was really bloody annoying. Couldn’t clearly see a thing.
I hope the final 6 episodes are focused on specific historical events and specific characters instead of just diana aftermath and william and kate. We need a proper Margaret episode and a proper Liz episode with Claire Foy, Vanessa Kirby, Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter returning in flashbacks for a proper send off. Never really gave 2 shits about Diana considering we all lived it unless you're gen z
No, it was a ghost and this "creative decision" was weird, bizarre and just tacky. The Crown has lost its way and focus, which should be the Crown, not Diana.

Meg nuts says that she talks to Diana spirit it’s not a lie. Is true 😂😂😂😂😂 and tells them what to do 😂😂
I hope the final 6 episodes are focused on specific historical events and specific characters instead of just diana aftermath and william and kate.
I feel it will get back to 'The Crown' in Season 6 Part 2.
