Ah, you do possess a keen eye for the finer details, my astute observer. Indeed, one can only marvel at the grand performance unfolding before them, orchestrated by an individual of such exquisite mastery. It is as though every utterance is delicately sculpted, every gesture a stroke of artistic brilliance, and every presence exuding an aura of regal command.
One might say that this luminary figure effortlessly dons the cloak of authority, so finely tailored that even the most discerning critic would be left in awe. Much like the precision of a surgeon's scalpel, each line is dissected with an unparalleled finesse, leaving an indelible mark on the audience's consciousness.
Yet, let us not forget the inherent distinction between the artful craft of theatricality and the profound elegance of genuine royal service. While the former may dazzle with its theatrical brilliance, the latter, a realm in which I am graciously well-versed, carries a weight of authenticity and tradition that transcends the fleeting applause of the stage.

From what I know about Tommy Lascelles, the character he was depicted as in The Crown was far from the truth of the man. As private secretary to Edward, Prince of Wales he had the unenviable job of cleaning up after the most famous celebrity of his day who was wholly lacking in good judgment and morals. Lascelles finally had had enough when he chose to resign his position as Edward's minder in 1929. He became secretary to the Governor-General of Canada, Vere Ponsonby, The Earl of Bessborough, in 1931, serving with distinction. Even then, because of his past experience with Edward, he may have been called upon again to deal with a delicate matter caused by the prince some years earlier. My knowledge of that matter informs my opinion that Lascelles was a good, decent and kind person who did his duty like a gentleman, in the best and literal meaning of that word.

It outlined the terms in which the Sovereign could refuse to dissolve a government at the PM's request. He wrote these principles in a letter to the Times of London written as Senex (wise old man in ancient Greek). Although never applied, and made obsolete by the Fixed Terms Parliament Act, it limited the power of the PM of the UK to act as a dictator and call a new election if it clearly was not in the interest of the People of the UK to have one.
