    About the 1962 Strat: Dave Lee, who worked as John’s guitar tech on tour from 1998 to 2007, argues that they were just basic Fender pickups found in the American Standard Stratocasters.
    I remember reading that and realizing John was wrong in that interview (I never told him). We were experimenting with a number of different pickups at the time. And he must’ve gotten confused. The actual pickups we settled on (and John never knew this) were stock, brand new, Fender Strat pickups. [JF Effects Interviews: Dave Lee (Guitar Tech)]
    I'm working on my own 1962 replica btw😎

    Actually he didnt swap them strat pickups for ss1's. There was some sort of confusion when it was stated at the time but Johns tech verified that theyre actually Fender pickups.

  • @noob-wr6do
    @noob-wr6do 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I recently discovered that John has more than one( possible 3) 1962 sunburst strats by looking at live performances. He likes to play some softer songs or warm-up on the other 2.
    And no. John doesn't have ssl-1 pickups in any guitar according to Dave Lee- his guitar tech back then and man who takes care of all this guitars now.

  • @reservoirfrog1
    @reservoirfrog1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Fun fact, Dave Lee, John's guitar tech, said that John was confused about the Seymour Duncan pickups. They needed to replace the vintage pickups and tested out a few different options, including the Duncan's. They actually settled on Fender stock pickups from the 2000s. 👍

    • @reservoirfrog1
      @reservoirfrog1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's the quote: In Guitarist Magazine, june 2003, you said you tried to convince John to play Fender's replicas of its old models, but he liked the "life" that his old instruments had. Besides the original tuning pegs (replaced by Klusons) and straplocks (replaced by Schallers), is there any other modification that you made in the guitars? He said in a interview that he replaced his '62 Strat pickups for Seymour Duncans SSL-1 (like in his '55 Strat). Is there anything else besides that? When did that occured?
      "I remember reading that and realizing John was wrong in that interview (I never told him). We were experimenting with a number of different pickups at the time. And he must've gotten confused. The actual pickups we settled on (and John never knew this) were stock, brand new, Fender Strat pickups. The same ones Fender was putting in their brand new American Fender Strats at the time (I'll bet you weren't expecting that)."

    the jaguar in the “Under the Bridge” was actually a Sherwood green finished jaguar. I agree it looks very sea foam green due to the lighting. people also confuse it with his lake placid jaguar that (from most sources i’ve read) burned in the house fire. Id kill for a lake placid or sherwood jag.

    That under the bridge Jaguar isn't seafoam green. I'm pretty confident in saying its ocean turquoise metallic, there is a chance its aged lake placid blue as well cause that goes greeny/turquoise. I've heard some people say its sherwood green but sherwood green is a proper dark green colour.

      He used it to record Around the World. Switches the tone circuit on verse/chorus. He did this at Woodstock (the only time I've seen him play a Jag live), but the second volume circuit was a 0, so he completely cut out. His tech had to run on stage to switch it. I think that stopped him using it live

    • @therideneverends1697
      @therideneverends1697 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean to be fair, with EQ adjustment a jaguar neck pickup and strat neck pickup are going to be basically indistinguishable.
      For that particular song ive tried the into out with a jag neck and a strat neck out of curiosity both got the sound just fine, the strat was a bit brighter on the same setting but i found bringing the tone knob down a touch made it pretty equal field.
      Its also worth noteing jaguars are kind of all over the place, some sound very bright borderline shrill like a telecaster, some are actually very warm sounding. The japanese ones tend to be a bit bright by default.

    They're not SSL-1 pickups they're Fender pickups taken from and American Standard Srartocaster his guitar tech said it himself #endthemyth

    1:23 nope. They producer and engineers couldn't get a good tone out of the ibanez so they got him a Les Paul to use

      Elephantricity I'm fairly sure it was Sherwood Green. Sadly, Hard Rock Cafe now owns that guitar.

      It was sold for drug money. He walked into guitar center disheveled and wearing no shoes and sold it for a pittance. The person who worked at guitar center actually sold it to them and the Hard Rock asked if he could sign a card to place with it.

    The myth of SSL-1 was debunked by his guitar tech Dave Lee. Quote:
    "I remember reading that and realizing John was wrong in that interview (I never told him). We were experimenting with a number of different pickups at the time. And he must've gotten confused. The actual pickups we settled on (and John never knew this) were stock, brand new, Fender Strat pickups. The same ones Fender was putting in their brand new American Fender Strats at the time (I'll bet you weren't expecting that)."
    Still SSL-1 is a great set of pickups.

    Just because he plays a guitar in a video that doesn't mean he owns it. The toronado in the Can't Stop video for example was just a guitar given to him to play because the director liked the colour.
