I build modern improved versions of the pedals that John used back in the day (even WH10s), would you be able to let him try some? @@MrDaveo98 I can vouch that the pedals Will makes are absolutely incredible. There's a mini CE-1 (completely true to the original), WH10 which again is totally true to the original sound (way better than the V2 in the metal case) and made from incredibly strong ABS so won't break, the Moogerfooger Low Pass Filter with 8 in-built LFOs! I think John would have a lot of fun and appreciation for these pedals (he was the inspiration for them after all). Do you think you could provide Will a way to get these pedals to John to try?
      I've made some videos of them on my channel, we'd love to know what you think.
      I'm not on commission btw, Will is just a very good friend of mine & I strongly believe his pedals deserve to fall into the right hands.

      "He(John) said in a interview that he replaced his '62 Strat pickups for Seymour Duncans SSL-1 (like in his '55 Strat). Is there anything else besides that? When did that occured?"
      Dave: "I remember reading that and realizing John was wrong in that interview (I never told him). We were experimenting with a number of different pickups at the time. And he must've gotten confused. The actual pickups we settled on (and John never knew this) were stock, brand new, Fender Strat pickups. The same ones Fender was putting in their brand new American Fender Strats at the time (I'll bet you weren't expecting that)."

    Hey Dave, this is completely off topic, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice. So I bought a limited colour edition Gibson les Paul from 2000 like two years back. I've been playing it like every day since then. Anyway I noticed the intonation was real bad and tried to adjust it. Few months later it was sounding so out of tune in the higher notes, so I thought maybe it was because the strings were pressing down on the bridge. To my surprise I couldn't adjust the height. I took all the strings off, and found that the bridge (tune o matic) was not wide enough for the poles it rested on. So basically it pretty much forced on. Now I'm really confused about what's going on. I looked up and found out there were two types of tune o matic bridged-the abr 1 and the Nashville-and so I thought maybe the precious owner might have put the wrong bridge on? Went to a guitar repair guy and asked about it, he said that the Nashville and abr are interchangeable (which seems contrary to what I saw online). So, what are your thoughts on what I could do? Is the guitar guy right, and the problem is actually with the guitar? In which case does that mean my only option is to drill new holes or shave the shit out of the bridge holes? I just don't know what to do. Like the poles are not even that far off from being the correct distance. They are like 3mm off...

    Hey Dave, I don't suppose you remember what the Boss PSM-5 master loop was used for around 2003? It's on his board at Slane Castle, I'm guessing it was used to turn multiple pedals on and off with one click?

    • @MrDaveo98
      @MrDaveo98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Olly Vert
      Yes. It was used to turn on distortion boxes at once. I believe 3 different ones. Also it was ised as a power supply for a few pedals. At least that's how I remember it.

    • @OllyVert
      @OllyVert 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's cool, was there a reason it was only used for such a short period of time? Since I started using a true bypass looper, I don't think I could ever go back (although it does sometimes cause some strange oscillations with multiple fuzz pedals!)
      I'm also interested if the amount of crunch John had onstage was usually related to the input setting on the CE-1?

      He was always experimenting. He might try something, be totally happy with it, then a week later, completely change his mind. That's just who he is. A few years ago he told me he "doesn't play guitar anymore."
      Then a year or so later he says "I'm playing guitar again, but I only play Yamaha SG's" ya never know what to expect. Lol.

      Hey Dave, thank you so much for replying us!
      We have a big doubt about the CE-1. Do you still remember if John used to switch between High and Low mode on the pedal according to the location during the Stadium Arcadium tour? From what I know he started to use Low mode since the Mosrite Fuzzrite does not interact well with Ce-1's High mode, kinda looses volume. Can you confirm this? Thanks in advance!!

      set it to "digital delay" turn the mix up to 3 o'clock (75%) delay time is around 3 oclock, repeat around 4o'clock . Play with that, you'll get it. Tweek and Tweez are off but you can put them on to get a little more reverb. This is what I did.

    Hey Dave,
    How was John able to use multiple distortion and fuzz pedals at the same time without there being an enormous amount of feedback? Also, do you happen to recall the settings he used on the BOSS DS-2 and Big Muff for his solos ?

    • @MrDaveo98
      @MrDaveo98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Grant McMichen
      When John was stacking distortion pedals, he would usually just not stop playing in between notes. So there was no space for the rig to feed back. As far as the settings go, I don't remember exactly how the they were set.

    this will stop strings from slipping in pegs but this has little to do with trem use.
    I am sure there is a lot more to his trem use than this, cut nut slots etc.
    also a locking nut fixes all this anyway.

    • @MrDaveo98
      @MrDaveo98  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. locking tremolo will fix that. But John wanted to keep his guitars as stock as reasonably possible. And yes we changed many a nut due to string wear.

    • @nickfanzo
      @nickfanzo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry. I was referring to the locking nut in the video which makes the tuning pegs part irrelevant. I'm sure you know you can break the headstock off with a locking nut and the guitar will still play in tune.
      maybe show how he sets up the actual tradtional trem system on an old strat . stock. how many springs. how much float on the bridge. etc. tricks for tuning on the trem without locking components.
