It is downright stunning for me how Rupert Spira walks the razor sharp blade of words to express that which cannot be expressed. I feel as if he had disected my brain atom by atom and then put it back together like pieces of lego. “….a thought that has naturally come to its end” Wow, just wow ❤❤❤

I think and beleive it is like this: God (or the source of everything if you will) creates the sun when your apparent ”YOU” looks at the sun. The sun is just a reflection of your mind in exakt the moment the ”God” will show you the sun. When two apparent people is in exact the same place and looks at the sun... then this source (or God if you want) creates the sun for both to show the beauty. When then these people talks to each other about the beautiful sun... that discussion is also a reflection from this source. ”The source at the moment divided into two people talking”, but in the reality ALL is ONE and this ONE seems to be dualistic. Informed by the source, but just appeared as a false thing (the sun) in the separate mind!! What do you think? Or in other words: There is only ”a sun” when the source appear as ”a sun” to the apparent mind... but in reality there is no sun, just a thougt of a sun in a human mind, that takes that form from an energy and the energy is only the informativ tool from the source👍🙏! Namaste, and keep shining😃🕉

"Nothing is form, and form is nothingness."
This reminds me of an old zen koan. I am sure many of you have heard it. "Two hands clap and there is a sound. What is the sound of one hand?"
Victor Hori offered this insight: "in the beginning a monk first thinks a kōan is an inert object upon which to focus attention; after a long period of consecutive repetition, one realizes that the kōan is also a dynamic activity, the very activity of seeking an answer to the kōan. The kōan is both the object being sought and the relentless seeking itself. In a kōan, the self sees the self not directly but under the guise of the kōan ... When one realizes ("makes real") this identity, then two hands have become one.
The practitioner becomes the kōan that he or she is trying to understand. That is the sound of one hand."
Apply this to the notion of consciousness. Understand that we are all a beautiful paradox. Everything is awareness.

Also, when the questioner says, "My mind," (over and over), that is also a problem.
The mind is NOT personal. It is NOT "MY." The mind is impersonal. When we make our mind personal, we throw a huge monkey wrench into everything. I am NOT my mind. I am NOT my body. I am only "I."
The mind is just a tool so that we don't crash and burn in a linear circumstance.
When we identify with our mind (make it a "Me") then we become attached to it and cannot go beyond it, to where the understanding that we are seeking, IS.

This guy’s making it up as he goes along! LOL He starts out with the question ‘what is your experience’, and goes on to ask does she experience anything of the outside world (basically to support or prove that it’s really there) then he says: than seeing? He then pauses - like he’s almost forgotten to add; touching? (then another pause, lest he forgets totally about ‘hearing’!) So his arguments, beliefs whatever for me, are simply unfolding whilst he talks and thinks of them, which gives no substance or fact to what he is actually saying for anything he puts forward - let alone evidence of it... There’s nothing wrong with that, but when he puts HIS questions to others, he’s asking/saying, other than what they are explaining, do they have any real evidence - well, no more perhaps than he himself does!

Here is my thing. All brains are actually antennas to perceive the what we call "Reality". Every brain has this capability. Even from animals. But what we receive as antennas? We receive consciousness. :) therefore we all come from this universal consciousness and what we call I is actually just this "downloaded Consciousness" going through the filters of our brain cells and interpreted by it, adding all flavours of experiences and social constructed ideas we have throughout our life. :)

The debate between the notion of an outside objective world or a world inside your awareness has been the subject of debate in Zen monasteries for centuries, It is not "Western versus non-dual". Long time ago this discussion became the subject of a deep and profound Zen koan which leads the seeker to the realization that neither interpretation is correct. The answer is not knowable, in fact no one knows if we're not in fact all just plugged into a simulation. The good news is that true freedom is found in being at peace with not knowing. It seems that the non-dual path in Zen is slightly different than what Rupert teaches. It's about taking up residence in that place of not knowing and not needing to know. Suzuki Roshi once responded to a question about consciousness in this way: "I don't know anything about consciousness, I just try to teach my students how to hear the birds sing." The universe is a place of grand mystery, it's not necessary to have it all figured out to find peace.

'Nothing is form, and form is nothingness' is a concession to the belief that there are things (9:00-10:00). Then, there is the realisation that this belief, produced by consciousness, can be replaced by the realisation that colours, sounds etc are appearing out of consciousness.
Consciousness would not be be able to come up with colours, sounds, etc without employing thoughts, necessary to design the mechanics of perceiving colours, sounds etc.
Driving a car is most enjoyable without identifying with it or believing in it as a separate entity. However, the designers of the car had to invest a lot of thinking into the functioning of that car. Realising the formless does not invalidate thinking as a tool to maintain the mechanics (vibrations) of perceiving colours and sounds for the sake of entertaining consciousness. Luckily, there is no need for consciousness to forget itself to perceive colours and sounds, but it has to forget itself as soon as it assumes beliefs in separation.

It's simpler to say that our life is just a dream, it's easier to understand the truth he is talking about when you know this. Don't let you be deceived from the extreme coherence, lenght and realistic quality of this dream but observe the synchronicity, the law of attraction, the deja-vu and the paranormal phenomena: they can all be explained if we admit it's just our shared dream. And when we fall asleep, we have dreams inside this longer dream. Who is the dreamer? Pure awareness...the void, there is NOTHING when the dream is over, just your/our awareness in peace and presence

    • @lifetoward

"Just a dream": Such a demotion of being alive seems designed to satisfy some sort of dissatisfaction with being finite, ie. smacks of ego. Reality has meaning. Life is real. Life has meaning. Life can't be life without being finite. Thus the satisfaction of the one great desire to be is to be finite, for only then can meaning be manifest. There seems to be no universal dreamer, but we many selves do dream. But that our lives may be full of meaning, let us dream in a way consistent with the nature of what we are at every level of being which we can extend our awareness to. That is the discipline toward happiness, toward life as real and undemoted.

It seems that the lady has not yet experienced the subtle sense of "being aware of being aware". Not yet realizing "awareness" presents itself as an intimate all-embracing presence and aliveness that can not be conceptualized. It's as if she is trying to fit conscious-awareness into an idea, or into an object. Immediately once the space of awareness is seen it's obvious it is beyond the minds comprehension. It's too present; too alive; too silent; too close; too non-objective; too open; too wondrous....
I have noticed with friends that when the question "are you aware of being aware?" is mentioned they instantly answer yes; but in any further discussion always seem to focus only on what they are aware of, and can not sense the awareness itself. It's like an alien concept.
I'm not trying to preach here. just clarifying things for myself. :-)

Fact : we only know the world through perception.
    so that leaves 2 possibilities.
    1. The world does not exist (only the perception of it).
    2. The world does exist but we can only experience it through sense perceptions.
Because we only know the world via perception means it’s valid either way, but it does not prove anything. How do you know it? He says it’s conditioning vs experience. But the experience does not make it so, it just allows the possibility of it. Can you reach a place in experience that proves or strongly hints the truth? If so how? Will self enquiry bring you to that place? Can anyone help answer this?

Slow Seeker You can never be sure but lets say option 2 is right. There actually exists an outside world and all of the world beings perceive this world through our perception - then the fact that the "observer" in all of these people, the "I" is exactly the same - should give you pause and should let you consider very strongly the first option

    • @jeffrourke2322
      @jeffrourke2322 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Simon Levy I disagree. The repeatable experience of the same physical world (geography) through seven billion finite minds confirm the existence of the material world in a very real sense in a way that the subjective dream world never can. To equate the two is disingenuous at best. No one has perceived the dream world which my subconscious creates (towards ends that strongly correlate with experiences in my waking state). Yet, many people have experienced driving on the same road in the same direction to get to the same supermarket. You cannot brush this under the rug. When one chalks up existence to subjective experience, they must embrace the baggage that follows. The universe is underpinned by objectivity at the most fundamental *metaphysical* level. The only subjective experience is that of the objective world.

I wish Rupert would elaborate on this concept more rigorously. The Titanic is at the bottom of the ocean whether or not anyone experiences it. How do we know this? Through geographical coordinates. It’s existence in a particular location has been confirmed empirically by individualized finite minds over and over again. If there is no one to experience the ship, am I to believe that it’s existence in that location is manifested through the observance of infinite consciousness? Of course not, for the emergent material world can only be observed through the finite mind; Rupert’s words, not mine.
Therefore, there must be a reconciliation between the reality (in a literal definition of the word) of the material world and the existence of an infinite consciousness. It isn’t enough to say that the world does not exist but through the experience of said world. This would be to say that infinite consciousness has no awareness whatsoever of the vast majority of the physical universe, for 99.99% of it is unobserved. How does one account for this enigma? If a world is only manifest through a finite mind, than the entirety of the cosmos is completely superfluous. I find that too hard a pill to swallow. Either infinite consciousness has an agency that Rupert does not concede (yet must because finite minds exist: who purposed their existence?), or the relationship between consciousness and the material world is as of yet not understood properly.
I’m on board with awareness as a fundamental underpinning of the material body, and the material world. But the existence of the world is not properly explained through these same means.

So if everything we know or experience of the outside world comes from awareness then awareness still has to conjure the object of awareness to be aware of it. Question is once we are aware that the objects are all in awareness can we change what we perceive as objects and can we change it not just for ourself but the 75 other people in the same room?
I am not questioning awareness or the need for awareness to experience any object, but where the disconnect is that while I can change the feelings or even hallucinate to change what I see, I can’t seem to change what the other person with me sees, feels or experiences. For example a mirage, once a group of people in a desert walk to the area of the mirage all realize at the same time there was nothing there. Why does that not happen with the world we experience?

If this questioner would just LET GO of Wanting to Understand these things, the understanding would just flood in. When we think, "I want to understand," it's a condition of "wanting," or scarcity, of the understanding.
Just say, 'I Let Go of wanting to understand xyz. I allow the understanding to come to me."
    This really really works.
We can't understand this concept with the logical mind. We must stop trying to do it. Because, like Rupert says, this subject is beyond the mind. We have to Let Go of the mind to understand this.
"I have no access to ..."
We are all omniscient beings, capable of accessing every form of knowledge and understanding. We must stop denying it. Just accept this about ourselves, and the understanding of this subject will automatically come to us.
When we are resisting the very thing we say we want to have, we are resisting the understanding.
If we would STOP wanting to understand things, the understanding will automatically come because we have removed the resistance to it.
We must stop trying to create an argument. That we consider understanding something is just so important... Understanding itself is NOT important. When we stop thinking that it IS important, the understanding will just come. Understanding will NOT come to the place where it's resisted.
There are NO dilemmas, except the ones we create.
Sit quietly on the couch and stay there until we can Let Go of all our dilemmas and mis-understandings. Just let go of all the resistance. All of the argumentitiveness. Then the understanding will come.
Also, Let Go of everything that we believe. Then understanding will come automatically. Truth comes where it is NOT resisted.
It really is so fun to let go of our reasoning mind for awhile to allow spiritual understanding to come. But, we humans, must always have a bone to pick :))))
Unless we don't (as Neale Donald Walsch would say).
We are all on the same journey together. Thank you, questioner and Rupert, for all of this amazing conversation!

A snake would experience the world differently just as a cat would experience the world differently. When youre in a dream you experience a world created by your subconcious yet its as real as the world we are in. This is what nondualists mean when they talk about maya; illusionary world. So really all there is consciousness, the world isnt really real.

      @flash4901 7 ปีที่แล้ว

We all do share the same consciousness! I prefer to call it essence, awareness, or emptiness though, it is that which experience is projected upon. Kinda like how rupert once used the analogy of the TV screen and tv show to point at the awareness-experience connection. The analogy goes something like this: The TV screen is in stillness, unaffected by whatever contents that are displayed on it. Our awareness is like that, it is the still essence that observes this world (or experience for a better word) we are experiencing. everything is projected upon this nothingness. When you realize this and stabilize in that nondual state, life becomes pretty much like a movie unfolding (with varying intensities) , and you're watching this character play along the game of life.
How i see it is that consciousness is god itself experiencing itself through the eyes of a human, living beings share that same consciousness aswell. God likes to play with himself it seems haha :) Although many teachers say this isnt the end all be all, this realization is just a half truth of the big picture which i think it is the experience of god consciousness (knowing that everything is god in varying forms, including you and your consciousness, aswell as realizing her infinite nature). I only reside in the basic nondual state, which is pretty awesome by itself! nothing magical about it though, just a general contentness even when "I" am not content if that makes sense haha

So when you talk as if you are senses or body then of course world is real and if you have realised your true self then there is no world.

"Why do you believe what Western culture tells you to believe about your experience?"
-Rupert says through a microphone based entirely on a western culture's experience that relies on things to exist outside of our perception

*It's so unfair to say "western culture" is the blame for materialism and poor treatement of animals.* Arabic countries still have huge slave trades. Africa is a living nightmare and all attempts to lift it up have failed. Asian countries treat humans like animals, and China executes hundreds of thousands of people every year.
This whol schtick about the west being so evil is wrong. Materialism is evil. This fantasy about india being this spiritual heaven is also wrong, much of it is very superficial. I wish people like this would aknowledge all the good they've received from being born in the west.

@@ferdinandocoluccelli9574 and I am Indian yet I agree with his/her comment 😅 it's all about being fair and seeing things in a fair way I suppose...for we all are no different from one another. Our skin/hair colours, cultures, languages, etc. might be different but in actuality we all are human being residing on Earth which is supposed to be round/spherical. Then where is this so-called East/West we talk about. Moreover in duality, everything has its good as well as bad. None is perfect in its entirety. Oftentimes many places are projected in a certain way which may not, rather ARE NOT the truth completely....as he/she rightly points about the so-called western culture and also about India. I can confirm that because I stay here. Have been born and brought up here.
I too did not agree with Rupert what he said about the projected image of the western world. Sometimes I wonder how can these so-called awakened beings talk in this manner when they know it all ? 🤔

@@swetabhushan798 because they see better than you and me. what really happen from a non-dual viewpoint is a bunch of vibrations of the primordial energy: no judgement is applicable to it, so this conversation is totally inconsistent. From the point of view of our human experience, it seems that words and ideas are relevant; in this perspective a thing is viewed as good or bad, and in this perspective I agree with Rupert in judging the western culture as an obstacle for people searching for truth, imho this is undeniable.
