  • See related post at sharpologist.com/2019/02/how-... for more information. I've watched my share of people shaving and I'm constantly surprised at how many people do not shave efficiently. There are a number of ways to be more efficient in your shave but there is one thing in particular that will make the biggest difference.

Razor burn, irritation and ingrown hairs caused by shaving so much over the spot that the hair is cut beneath the skin's surface and other act that might cause a medically detrimental effect or uncomfortable conclusion aside; shaving can be, for some individuals, much like a Japanese Tea Ceremony. No one who simply wants a cup of tea would go through the highly stylized rituals involved merely to relieve thirst.
In other words; it's not necessarily about efficiency but ritual and self massage, albeit with a sharp object, and the repeated passes are shaving away emotional stresses and turmoil and not just beard whiskers. Point being, your tutorial is great for its intended purpose to demonstrate efficiency. This said, shaving, wet shaving in particular, is not necessarily meant to be efficient.

Your videos are efficient. I like the way you get your point across quickly. No one wants to watch 25 minutes whale waiting for someone to get to the point...

Well done Mark! So many of us “over” work our shaves. All the best. Thanks

One of the most helpful videos as I was learning about the art of shaving with these razors. Deserves way more views

Most of my shaves are two pass shaves, as I shave daily. Thanks for the reminders in your video. 👏💈👍

Thank you Mark. This helps a lot. I used to over do it. But I get a fantastic shave just following your advice. Stay safe.

I perform short stroked Gillette slide with razor head parallel to the floor with a DE razor. I also skin stretch. With this combination I get a very close shave. I perform touch ups if required.

I use baby oil as a pre-sheave it is cheap I put a little bit in a glass bottle and I run hot water and I put the glass bottle of baby oil in the hot water for the baby oil to warm up after I take a shower I then put the baby oil on each pass or use that baby oil that helps prevent razor burn for me

My tips are also your tips in other videos! Shower first to properly hydrate your face and don’t use a dull blade. If it’s pulling rather than cutting, change it out!

After six months of wetshaving with a DE razor my three-pass shave went from 15 to 8 minutes. I'm soaking the brush and washing my face first thing in the bathroom. Also, I'm only going against the grain on troublesome areas.

That's the REX you are shaving with Mark. My no.1. When I have a multiple day growth and the rEX is set on 6 with a new Feather, I have to go over the same spot to get the area clean.

Face lathering instead of bowl lathering, using both sides of razor fully before rinsing also saves time.

You're using a good razor though. The videos you show use multi-blade razors. The multi-blade razors get clogged real fast, something that many DE razors don't have a problem with. Shave soap rinses cleaner from the blade where as foam will stick and clog the blade unless rinsed real well (soap gives a speed advantage). Your foam layer was also thinner than that of the provided video (which allows longer passes).

The "efficiency" tip applies to any razor as far as I'm concerned. :)
