i just got the steam deck and tried playing elden ring on it. within 5 mins i ran into 2 major problems. first, can't launch the game in online mode due to "inappropriate activity". second, can't bring up the on-screen keyboard in the character creator. literally a game-breaking bug at the beginning of a game which steam claims is "great on deck". i got the deck because i'm a busy person and thought it would be a great way for me to game more often but with the amount of tinkering you have to do to get even the basic stuff to work it's just not worth it. having major buyer's remorse right now.
You can bring up the onscreen keyboard manually with Steam Button + X. You could also use a bluetooth keyboard or connect a wired keyboard via USB hub/dock. If you google "inappropriate activity elden ring steam deck" the first result will be a Reddit post of how to fix that bug and enable online play. Buying the DLC should also resolve it.

On a Steamdeck Oled at 800p medium settings you can set it 34fps and it will be stable throughout and very nice and smooth. Huh? Can easily run 40-50 on Deck with no lag. Or you can do a console quality 30fps with no frametime/frame pacing issues. Hell, if you're concerned about frametime/pacing, it's unironically more stable on Deck than it is elsewhere. The monitor lines just don't budge 😂

Just bought my deck last night!!
Just got a new deck oled, was wondering how to set settings to low for Elden ring ?
How do you make it be full screen? I have it but the ratio es slim and can’t find a fix to it other than deleting some files which I don’t know how 🙉
I never had played any soul games and i currently have a lot games on my backlog like hl2 hellblade gta4 witcher and so.. Maybe sometime i try elden i think its a good game
You won’t regret it. One of the best games of all time in my opinion.
I need to get back to Elden ring n the deck
Do it. Performance is way better than it was. Supposedly the DLC might have some issues but that’s not uncommon for new releases.
@@StewdioGamerdlc has worse performance than base game and base game already does not run great frame time without a locked 60 is trash and ruins the game
Hello .. how to install all emulators on legion go ? Am a beginner using PC / handheld PC
It s very nice in train or wainting to a doctor. But there is no compare to just admire Elden ring on a big screen
Its fully able? I mean some mp games devs statet ( destiny for example) thay playing om SF will result ban
Alright I'm taking the plunge and just paid the damn $60 for it. Wish me luck Decky Fam!
I play this game mostly on my legion Go and is amazing
DLC runs horrible on deck
DLC runs horrible everywhere sadly.
30fps stable on Deck and on my pc stable 60fps i7 13700k and 4080
It definitely isn’t running good but even PC is not great. I’m sure it’ll be fixed.
plays smoothly on 3070 - stable 60 fps but 1080p display
Man I had to chose between this or Skyrim and 2 extra games and I got Skyrim and haven’t looked back
Haha nothing wrong with Skyrim! You can get a lot of hours out of that one too.
Base game runs better on my steam deck than it does on my desktop, even though I have a mid range GPU I get horrible stutters up to a second or more
you do you ,just sayn. i would, looking at your performance lock the game to 30. more consistent framerate and on top benefit of drawing a little less power
Love the oled, but i refuse to play anything under a stable 40 fps.
Majority of the time I would say I’m in the 50’s on low settings. If you want higher than that yeah I’d go with another handheld 😆
actually you need 30 fps to run a game smoothly
Can you drop a link for the skin on your LCD steam deck, Thanks!
Which one? Both in the video are from dbrand so check their website. The Zelda one was limited edition they don’t sell anymore and the other one is called blocks.
@@StewdioGamer the blocks one, thank you for the quick reply too!
I cant get the game to connect online on Steam Deck???
Aint no way i wasted my money on an xbox x just to find out what a steam deck is........
Pain
anybody got the settings for 40fps on the LCD deck? Thanks
I have it ps5. I cant even get past the limpgrave beginning area. Not getting another copy for steamdeck
Don’t give up I was in your spot and gave up. Took me a while to go back to it but once I did and got a good start it changes everything. Tons of great TH-cam videos by Elden Ring creators to help you.
You need to go and kill the big, sleeping dragon. You will get over 100,000 runes. Then level your character up. After this, you will be ready to wreck some bosses.
I have Platin on pc and 100% on Steam more than 300h 😅
Easily the best game on the deck. Dlc ran very smooth
I own the game on Xbox and I get so bored
i just got the steam deck and tried playing elden ring on it. within 5 mins i ran into 2 major problems. first, can't launch the game in online mode due to "inappropriate activity". second, can't bring up the on-screen keyboard in the character creator. literally a game-breaking bug at the beginning of a game which steam claims is "great on deck". i got the deck because i'm a busy person and thought it would be a great way for me to game more often but with the amount of tinkering you have to do to get even the basic stuff to work it's just not worth it. having major buyer's remorse right now.
Prefer playing it on my Rog ally at better fps. and 1080p but I do sometimes play it on my steamdeck but it feels a lot less smooth.
Makes since I bet the VRR screen makes a difference. 1080p never hurts either. I’m looking forward to playing the DLC on the ALLY X next week.
900p 1080p are the same thing
@@Ghostlynotme445 yeah well steam decks not 900p and they are not the same at all. Trust me I used to have a 900p monitor you don't nowhere as much of the game on the screen as on a1080p screen. Beside steam deck is 800p just like a 4k screen fits more of the game into the viewing space than a 1440p monitor does. It's about pixel count. I believe 1080p is 2.2 million. But 800p is only 1 million pixels. IE huge difference. You might as well be saying 720p is the same as 1080p 😂
@@StewdioGamer does actually but as I have one doubt I will upgrade I use battery packs anyway. Faster ram and more would be nice so I may get tempted if I have a chance.
@@StewdioGamer plus can play at 1080p maximum on Rog ally and Starfield at 1080p ultra with FSR3.
On a Steamdeck Oled at 800p medium settings you can set it 34fps and it will be stable throughout and very nice and smooth. If you sacrifice resolution or settings it will be like playing a badly ported game on switch. The game is only demanding because fromsoft has terrible LOD for the whole game. Some assets are too high quality too far. Hopefully future game has better models to help with performance.
Most annoying boss ever in every souls game so far is Elden Rings DLC Final Boss, fuck that guy! >:(
The ROG Ally X is the only handheld I'd play Elden Ring on. The Steamdeck just isn't powerful enough.
30fps?
With lag yes 35fps mostly
I’m not sure what settings your running but low settings can easily get you 50-60 FPS on average.
This game literally crashes every 15 mins on steam dex
…I haven’t had a single crash on mine. You may want to get that checked.
I have had some crashing since the new patch 1.12. The DLC does not run as well either on Steam Deck even though it is playable. On patch 1.10 and 1.11 it played fantastic which is what this video was made off. It’s still great majority of the time though!
i just wanna say you're fine af
low fps laggy steamdeck no thx 😂
Why are people hyping up a shit handheld with bad performance. Get a fuckin laptop lol
