Ten on first meeting River in ‘Silence in the Library’ - “I point and laugh at archaeologists”. Eleven on meeting baby Melody for the first time does EXACTLY that!

This is good on multiple levels. The Silence are dedicated to destroying him by any means necessary but even they believe he is fundamentally a good person. Yet he, who has dedicated his entire life to helping people believes that at his core he isn't a good person.......what kind of a man must you be where your enemies see the truth of you yet you can't see it yourself.

Moffatt created River when he wrote the Silence (double meaning) in the Library. This is Moffatt's long arc writing at its finest.
I really hope J. Michael Straczynski takes over as showrunner after Chibnall leaves. By some accounts, JMS kicked off long arcs in modern sci-fi with Babylon 5 in the mid-90s. That show had a five-year long arc.
It's a shame he couldn't pay off other things like this. Too much stuff had to be crammed in later.
He created River but most of it was tacked on afterwards it’s not a big long plan. He didn’t even know she was going to be Amy and Rory’s daughter until he started writing series 6. He literally just adds a load of mystery and buzzwords and references and then makes sure he writes them in at a later date. I love her story for the most part but it’s not really as complicated and clever as it seems
When you think of it, River is the perfect mix of Amy and Rory. River has her Mother's wit and words and her father's heart.
The Doctor HAD children. 10 references being a father in The Doctor’s daughter and the first Doctor travelled with his granddaughter, Susan.
He also told Rose he’d had kids in that episode with the olympics
Nine also obliquely references it in The Empty Child.

Doctor: Yeah, I know the feeling.
After watching this, I love thinking back to River's comment in "Day Of The Moon" when she says "I hope my old man didn't see that, he gets ever so cross" - it's like retrospective dramatic irony!
I LOVE watching people’s first reaction to this episode. The stunned look. Then the eyes cut to the side while they start thinking. Then the stuttering “but wait, what, but that means. Then the acceptance and finally “wow”. So cool and so much fun to watch.
I've seen this episode tons of times but never noticed that "It's my birthday" clue from River Song before. Thanks for that little detail! 😀

This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. I love how all the people The Doctor has helped for the past season and a half came back to help him. This was up there with Family of Blood for scary Doctor.I loved Missy's Cheshire cat grin as she watched Holly's reactions to the big twists. Holly's reactions didn't disappoint either.
River couldn’t reveal who she was to Team TARDIS until she was born in their timeline because if they knew it could’ve affected the way they did certain things that could’ve potentially lead to her not being born. She had to be born and taken before she could appear at Demons Run. She knows her personal history and that it had to happen a very certain way.

The "Good Man" in the title isn't the Doctor. Its Rory. As the Doctor says, good men don't need rules, and the Doctor has a lot of them.
It feels like Capaldi's Doctor had time to start thinking about whether he was a good man or not after all his previous incarnation experienced what a good man was with Rory.
Originally Captain Jack was supposed to be in this episode and he was going to be killed by the Monks which would've then led to him becoming the Face Of Boe

Great reaction! When I watched this episode, I was immediately reminded of the last words Idris said to Rory in The Doctor's Wife. Rory: Sorry. At the end, she was talking. She kept repeating something. I don't know what it meant. Doctor: What did she say? Rory: The only water in the forest is the river. She said we'd need to know that someday. It doesn't make sense, does it? Doctor: Not yet.

To understand what's going on, you have to grok nonlinear time and wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey causality.
