It might surprise you but the doctor was also a grandfather. He use to travel with his granddaughter Susan. She stayed on earth before he regenerated for the first time. She was a good person and I would have loved to have seen more on the doctors family.

Which means that the Doctor's Daughter went to school with the Doctor's Daughter, then played the Doctor's Daughter in The Doctor's Daughter, married The Doctor and had the Doctor's Daughter.

Georgia’s dad confirmed that David repeatedly asked her out after they filmed the episode, and Georgia went, but she genuinely thought that David was just being friendly and that he wasn’t into her. Took months for the penny to drop lol

To add to the family Doctor Who vibe, Georgia Moffett went to school with and was good friends with Lucy Baker who was the daughter of Colin Baker, the Sixth Doctor. Georgia is quoted as saying her father "would stand outside my primary school and watch me run in with my dear friend Lucy Baker, with her dad Colin standing beside him. Even if that didn’t rip a hole in the fabric of space and time, I was aware that it was an unlikely coincidence".

I like how Martha's plotline in this episode is almost like... she's her own doctor now. She introduced herself as a doctor with a cool little line similar to how THE doctor does, picked up a companion who she let come with her when they asked, then that companion died to save her life

Jenny is back in a recently released Big Finish audio episode. But has not come back to a tv episode yet. 😥
Georgia Tennant posted an Instagram last week where their newborn was watching Dr. Who, and the caption was: "Indoctorination." I thought to myself, "Maybe you should leave the episode where Mum and Dad play daughter and father until they're older..." 🤣

  • @whobp8
    @whobp8 5 ปีที่แล้ว +47

I believe David Tennant and Georgia Moffet are up to five kids now (the oldest is Georgia's from a previous relationship). Around the time this episode was released Georgia and her son did a video either for the Doctor Who Confidential show or as a DVD extra (I can't remember off hand which) where they talked about this episode and the show in general and at one point Georgia asked her son (who was quite little at the time) who his favorite Doctor is. He opted for David Tennant and Georgia replied, "Oh, Grandpa's going to love that!" Anyway, terrific reaction as always, ladies! I really like all the love you show for Donna and the enthusiasm for the season as a whole!

Honestly, I think this is one of the episodes where Donna isn't as appreciated as she should be.
Not only was she the reason the 7 Day War was found out in the first place, but she got the Doctor to accept Jenny and abandon his previous idea of her by getting him to see the truth.
And that's just one half of the equation, with the other being her one lines and the continuation of my favourite running joke ever; "We're not married," which is only so good because their genuine friendship is the strongest of any TARDIS pairing. (Thus far at least)

I think this would have been a perfect episode to mention Susan by name or at least a more direct reference (Susan is the original assistant of the first Doctor and the Doctor's granddaughter for those unaware). Susan is my favourite assistant and she doesn't get a direct reference until series 10 (although there are hints to her throughout).

This character of Jenny that Georgia Tennant plays was the main justification from Peter Davison on why he felt the Doctor shouldn't be a woman, which he made back around the time that Jodie Whitaker was selected. He felt that Jenny was a great representation of a female Timelord (though imo Romana [from the Fourth Doctor's time] was a better one, even as a companion), and that "Doctor Who" had already shown a great female Timelord that could have continued on with her own adventures (yes, yes; what you'd probably expect from a proud dad).
BTW, you two will get a kick out of this link, which is of a Twitter post made by Georgia Tennant back around Xmas last year. I think her caption for it says it all:

Even though I don't think this episode is amazing (it's pretty good, but the weakest in this series imo), I think David Tennant is just phenomenal in it. He has to convey all the pain and sorrow from the time war and losing all his family. He has to show the conflict and understandable difficulty he has in accepting Jenny as his daughter because of that. It's his performance that makes Jenny credible as a character and by the end you really believe she's the Doctor's daughter, when he finally accepts her. Probably one of his top ten best performances as the Doctor. The truth behind the war between the Hath and the Humans is really clever as well. It's quite scary how people can mytholigise their whole history like that. I guess people try as best as they can to make sense of situations that don't make sense at all. I love that Donna is the one to work all this out as well, SUPER TEMP! 😂
As for the ending, I like it. I can understand why some feel the emotion was undercut, but to the Doctor she's still dead. He doesn't know she came back to life, so nothing's changed there. I like the ending because of the parallel between the Doctor and Jenny. Throughout the episode we see her becoming more and more like the Doctor (she even teaches him a lesson about not all soldiers being bad. A prejudice the Doctor has built up in his head because of his PTSD from the time war) and at the end she ran away, just like the Doctor did from Gallifrey all those years ago. Now she can go fight monsters, save civilisations and go and do whatever she likes, just like her Dad. BTW, Russel T Davies, the current showrunner at the time fully intended to keep Jenny dead, but he was swayed and convinced by Steven Moffat to bring her back to life. Paula may know that Steven Moffat is the showruuner from series 5 to 10, so that should give her an indication of how he will approach the show during his own era....

Actually it wasn't about a spin-off. She was brought back because Steven Moffat suggested it to RTD so he could use her. Thus showing his obsession with a female Time Lord/Doctor has been there forever. But he threw the character away. Personally I think whatever the concept of the story he had in mind for her he used for River Song.

Is it just me, or is Jenny’s personality a lot like River’s?

This one (for me anyway) just isn't great. The story makes almost no sense, and the ending is a total cop out. The opening half of season 4 in general isn't as strong as some people remember it. It gets better from now on though!

Such a great episode mostly due to my favorite portrayal of Martha so far. Great reaction as always girls!
