River Song has entered the building! I love how Paula, who has never seen the episode before, becomes increasingly anxious as the story unfolds, while Katrina, who knows exactly what's coming, shudders anyway at some of the creepier moments. This is obviously a story that pushes a few of our favorite Gallifrey Gals buttons.

Neither one of them, River or this "young" Doctor, have been in this moment before. So, neither would remember it.

While River is much "older" in terms of their relationship, having known the Doctor for a long time, every encounter is a new one.
That is why (spoiler alert) she keeps the diary. To record every encounter & so when they meet, she can see "when" they are, in their relationship. (does she know him longer, or he know her longer?) - A clever touch I always liked.

@@galeno07 From a canon point of view...yes. From a technical point of view, that part hadn't even been written and I think is is safe to assume the details of it all hadn't even been conceived of, much less thought out.

I'm sorry Paula....I am so so sorry.
I can already tell this reaction two parter will be great with one party having intimate knowledge of what’s gonna happen and the other completely confused as to what’s going on.
It's very fun to watch somebody react to this story as someone who has loved this two parter for years. The Vastha Nerada are one of the greatest monsters ever and the whole idea of a sentient computer system is so cool. This still remains one of the trippiest Doctor Who stories ever, but it's also my second favourite modern Who story. It throws so much stuff at you that your mind is just racing with all sorts of thoughts the first time you watch it. So many questions, I'm sure Paula desperately want the answers. I can assure her that next week will put everything into perspective and make much more sense. Really looking forward to next week, but I'm the same for the rest of this series tbh because every episode is at least a 9/10 from now on.
MrAzmatMahmood almost totally agreed! This is one of those episodes we love seeing newbies watch, it is just mental.
This is my second favorite Who story as well. Heaven Sent is my #1. What is your #1? My #3 is Blink, and honestly, those three stories could easily be mixed around in my rankings, as I think they are all stellar for different reasons

Water of Mars is#4 for me. Midnight is #6. The Human Nature 2-parter ended up middle- of-the road ranking for me, due to the Martha-Ten dynamic. I do however think Tennant's acting and the story itself are fantastic! And I shed a few tears (not unusual for this show. lol)
@@lynn8374 Martha and Ten's dynamic is really underrated imo. It was something the show had never really done before and it allowed both characters to grow and change throughout the series. That's my opinion on it anyway. 🤷
Katrina really made me laugh saying to Paula when she saw the little girl.... 'Is that you as a child?'
‘Hey who turned out the lights’. Harry Peacock, lovely lad who I used to teach drama to some time ago. Brilliant episode.
"That's what I want to know, Donna!" The sly looks that Katrina gives the camera just kill me. One of my favorite story arcs and when I think of everything to come....whew....
Now Katrina can say "Spoilers!" when Paula asks what's going to happen and the phrase won't be a spoiler! :)
Never realised one of the faces was Josh Dallas. Katrina when River appears - the look of joy but that also says ' OMG here we go' lol. ;)

You two are among the best reactors I have seen on TH-cam - for any show. Katrina does such a great job of letting Paula experience the episodes, while providing just a tidbit of extra comments to make it fun. I have noticed that most of the time (with other reactors), the one who has seen it just can't contain their excitement and talks WAY too much, taking away from the experience for the newbie imo. (This is not a judgement on those people, as I know I - in that position - am not able to contain my excitement and knowledge. Just ask my older son who I sat with when he watched season 8 of GOT. haha).
Also...the two of you are incredibly adorable, intelligent and charming, which makes your reactions fun to watch! :D
BTW, this two-parter is my second favorite story in the whole series (after "Heaven Sent" in season 9).
I found this episode to be one of the most terrifying in the entire series. I'd place the Vashta Nerada on par with or ahead of the Weeping Angels, having the additional creep factor of the Empty Child.
I think there is just one other creature in the same league.
They might be more terrifying, but Blink still wins.
I just noticed prince charming is in this episode... and I've seen this two parter many times. Amazing story and visuals btw. Moffat definitely had something planned back then and, to this day, I'm absolutely satisfied to where he took that journey.

It's so unbelievably hard to answer questions because it's so incredibly easy to spoil something with this, but Katrina did a great job with that. This is where Doctor Who starts pumping out so many quality episodes. What a ride.

You're going to make us wait a week!!!!!! This is THE perfect episode to watch a "newb" and a "not newb?" side by side reaction. When River was asking about the Diary and the Doctor saying he's never met her before....You look at paula and she's got a shocked face and then you look at Katrina and she's got a really sad face. And friggin Paula!!!!….. being the smarty she is knew to look at Katrina right then to read in her reaction to figure out what's going on.
this is a fantastic 2 parter, the intro to river. they way time works for them is in never the right order.. 1 week is so long away :D

I met Alex Kingston last Saturday at the VIECC (which was AMAZING!!!) and that kinda brought me here to your video (this one was the first one i saw from your reactions), since then I rewatched EVERY SINGLE of your reactions of New-Who but now with you, and cant wait to see your reactions tomorrow for the 2nd part!!! i really love your honest reactions! Super excited to see your next reaction! the second part of the two parter is one of my favorite episodes this season, and in a season with SO MANY good episodes, that's saying something.

Their timelines run more or less opposite So an older doctor has met a younger River song. This is an older River meeting a younger doctor. He doesn’t remember her because he never met her before. She met him, a future him. But she’s never been in the library before.
River Song, one of the best if not the best who character ever
For some reason, this is perhaps the most memorable DW episode for me, and potentially my favorite - remember when it first aired - I was so excited! :)
This pair of episodes made me nuts at first. I had been watching new who but not religiously so I couldn't say for sure whether River had been in another episode in some fashion and I ended up watching every single episode in order. Alex Kingston is like carbon, she has chemistry with everyone and Moffet is like a guy who tricks you into buying your favorite house. It's a powerful combination.
These two episodes are for watching Katrina's reaction more than Paula. So far it hasn't been disappointing.
Two seasons later you realize just how much more sad the ending was for River.

Just realized that Dontnod took David Tennant's style in this episode for Mark Jefferson. Looks a lot like him.
When I watched this episode, I had turned the lights off for a better viewing experience - and I spent the entire hour too scared to reach out and flip the switch.

Seeing a newb and a fan reacting to this episode at the same time is fantastic. Paula is in awe and full of excitement and Katrina holding back tears because she knows what's coming...
I can't wait to see the second half.
She doesn't know he doesn't know her because she hasn't met the unknowing him yet. So, she knows him but he doesn't know her. So he won't tell her to keep the time line straight.
NuWho has played around lightly with time travel paradoxes and so on before now, but generally limited them to 1 episode, handwaved them away with the Timey Wimey Ball theory, or even taken pains to keep things in sync that didn't have to be - for example Jack or the Master having very different personal timelines than the Doctor but still seeming to always meet him in the same order he's meeting them (technically Boe complicates things but we didn't know that until it was over). River is the first time they deliberately construct a more complex intersection of threads. I'm not sure it always meshes that well with with Who's fairly loose sci fi logic, but fascinating to watch the experiment!

Greatest story in the history of the show
River is from this Doctor's Future. She is from the future currently in the past. That is why she knew who he was but had not seen this version. It IS TH-cam's Automatic Blocking System that is blocking your Doctor Who Videos. There was no copyright claim from the BBC. That is Fraud You could sue them for Fraud.
In answer to both your statements.NEVER believe ANYTHING TH-cam/Google says. It is your Legal Right to demand to see a Copy of the Copyright Claim. When their ABS picks a Video of someone's to Block, it keeps coming back. Unlike you, I know what I am talking about. 5 times their ABS Blocked Video's of mine. On all five occasions I used my Legal Right to see a copy of the BBC's Copyright Claim. They couldn't. Unknown to them I had sent a copy of my Videos to the BBC and asked permission to show them on my Channel. They all fell within the BBC's Guidelines so got the OK. They told be about TH-cam's ABS. All five of my Videos were unblocked. To say a Company put a Copyright Claim on a Video when the didn't - is a Criminal Offence. Your lack of knowledge on your Rights and the Law is blatantly Obvious.
@tylerx2r01 NO!! BBC Copyright is the same in America as it is in Britain. Broadcast Company Law outweighs almost everything. As an American you should know that. Your Government works for Companies, NOT the People. Your so called Health and Safety Departments are run by the Companies who produce/make the things they are supposed to Protect the People from. Everybody outside America knows that. Intelligence is a thing you work at to get better. What a pity you failed.
