Let's take a minute to acknowledge how badass Rory is.
There's an online picture of him - actually lots of the same picture - captioned "Time's New Roman". Wish I knew who originated that brilliant pun. He's a hero who doesn't mind calling the doctor to account - and going alone on a Cyber ship …
He really gets 5h@t on, oddly never respected unless he performs some life saving feat.
Amy discarded him the night before her wedding. She ignored him when he was on the TARDIS until forced to by The Doctor. It really made Rory and Amy's relationship feel forced. I think I felt more chemistry between Rose and Mickey 😬
Probably the biggest (and best) Dr. Who plot twist ever, some reactors have had this one spoilt, so glad you didn't
I would say the cliffhanger of The Name of the Doctor but this is definitely up there

When you realize Captain Jack was originally going to return for this episode but couldn't because it clashed with the filming of Arrow....
I thought it was down to Torchwood? They were filming Miracle Day at the time and the Arrowverse writers, from what I can recall, said if they needed John, they could use him.
Yeah I think he couldn’t return for the 50th because of arrow? Something along those lines.
I love Arrow and Torchwood but that makes me sad :(

I love that plot twist. A fun fact is that Alex knew Amy was River's mom back when they were filing series 5, and she used that for River showing extra care and concern towards Amy from the very beginning.
people had guessed a similar twist, pond and river were too similar to not be related, most though thought maybe it was a amy in the future or such changing her name.
It wasn't till years later that I connected that when Rory went to pick up River, she said it was her birthday. 😁
I almost freaked out on that one. But melody is weeks old at least when the battle of demons run takes place but no where near a year.

A great reaction to the reveal. Remember what Idris TARDIS said as her body was dying? "The only water in the forest is the river". Moffatt had been planning this episode for years.
The doctors Wife came out the same year as this.
@@AS-wk9gg oh, but they planned it ever since the first appearance of river (season 4). River said the doctor would find out who she is later on.
According to Alex Kingston, Steven Moffat told her the story of River Song since "The Pandorica opens" and she was the only cast member to know that truth, in order to play with that background. This twist wasn't even in the episode's script so they didn't know what Kingston was about to say.

I think I’ve heard that the Time of Angels was originally going to be a Tennant episode but got pushed off until Smith’s series.

yes his mom agreed to marry him, and flirted with him for the last two seasons.
Some people complain about S6, and it does have its faults, but I love it so much. There are so many clues pointing towards River being who she is, and yet it's totally shocking at the same time.

In the final minutes of "A Good Man Goes To War", and he's utterly convinced that River is the Doctor's mum. Oh, failwhale, never change.
a lot of people had that idea that it was his mom, with her talking about his baby cradle, etc.
Failwhale guessed a ton of stuff I'd never even have thought of. He's GOOD. Nobody guessed the daughter thing.

So as others have mentioned, Captain Jack was going to return for this episode, and many people theorize that he would have taken Doriums' place, getting decapitated by the Headless Monks. Which is how he would become the Face of Boe

During the two parter where River is introduced, I remember you theorised in an off the cuff way if she could be Donna's future daughter. I remember shouting at the screen "Wrong! But owe close but still no cigar!" Right theory wrong companion!" Then you never once revisited that notion again.

One of the subtle moments I love in this episode is when Strax is dying and rory ( A nurse literally dressed up as a warrior) says "come on, you're a warrior"
And he's just like "Rory.....I'm a nurse"
Such a powerful moment that most people miss because we forget that Rory is a nurse

Best line in the series.
There's A LOT I love about this episode.
* Strax. Every line is treasure
* Vastra and Jenny and their subtle flirting
* The way the Church of the future is portrayed. "We're here to fight him, not praise him. Praising costs way more!"
* Matt's shocked face when he realises they were there on their wedding night
* Rory turning absolutely badass for his wife, invoking his Centurion training and two thousand years experience guarding the Pandorica
* Amy's scream when the baby turned to goo. Karen's delivery was exactly the kind of horrified screech you'd expect
* The Doctor apologising to her after was also an incredible delivery by Matt
* Laurna Bucket and her exchange with the Doctor
I'm sure there's more that I could list, but this is already plenty.
Also: "She's *definitely* a girl." Lmao
One of the things Moffatt is always good at is hiding things in plain sight. Don’t feel bad for not getting it but the most obvious clue was there all along - River Song/ Melody Pond!
He also keeps you too distracted throughout the episode with other stuff, so that you're too busy to stop and think what's the big reveal you're approaching.

When I first watched it as a little kid and saw 'Melody Pond' was Amy's daughters name, I immediately thought 'oh, is that River?' xD
Fun fact: Remember back in season 3 when Jack revealed he was the Face of Boe? Well John Barrowman was supposed to be brought back for this episode but the filming conflicted with another show he was doing. The plan was to have him get beheaded by one of the headless monks, over time turning him into the Boe we know.
Man, as much as it would have stepped on Amy and Rory's toes, I wish we could have seen 11 interact with some of the old crew in some way.

Oh this plot twist... I jumped off the couch when i saw that years ago and walked back and forth on what just happened while my boyfriend sat on the couch laughing at my reaction. My favorite WTF Plot-twist ever
The writing for the season arcs of Matt's episodes was really good.
Matt Smith had great narrative arcs and I think Peter Capaldi had fantastic thematic arcs

I think S7 would like to speak with you for a minute, in private. I do like 5&6 but 7 was more of a clusterfuck story wise than any of Capaldi’s seasons.
I do agree Capaldi had amazing themes though, unparalleled.

Moffat’s a friggin genius and it kills me so much to see people hating on Season 6 when he planned everything out to the last detail... In fact, there are very few non-explainable plotholes throughout his run and people just hate on him because they can’t understand it
This is actually my favourite episode of this series, it’s so dramatic and each time river does her monologue I get goosebumps! It’s so well acted and portrayed.

This was something I didn't realize till after... she must have been in a part of her time line where she hadn't seen him in awhile, and she was so surprised and happy. But Alex Kingston already knew, so she was able to act it that way.
It's been a long while since she has seen him, because she knows when her parents disappear and go back to 1938, Manhattan.in the episode Angels take Manhattan.

Captain Jack was originally supposed to appear in this episode and he would have had his head cut off, explaining how he would become the Face of Boe. But there was scheduling conflicts and he couldn’t appear in the episode
My mum guessed every single aspect of River Song before this reveal. Even at the beginning/ end of her character in the library. Once she started reappearing, it was just crazy. Your reaction is priceless!

Watched this episode a bunch of times but only just now have I clocked that River tells us it’s her birthday at the beginning of the episode!
One subtle things never mentioned is that river says “Its my birthday”, when Amy and Rory’s daughter had just been born, so it was her birthday at demons run too
