With Valve talking about releasing future iterations of the Steam Deck... I really hope they just let this model breathe for a while. It would be nice to see a return to the 5-year lifecycle for hardware instead of either having 8 years with consoles or 1 year with mobile phones.
the thing is, Deck is quite literally a PC so for the most part arbitrary generational separation such as you see in traditional console does not really exist, you can run game released more than 20 years ago such as Half Life (or even games from dos era} all the way up to the current latest generation games. the only limit would be the computational power for future more hardware-demanding games, which the future iteration of the deck will most probably solve with better hardware with more efficient and powerful hardware
@@MetalJesusRocks I think what I'm waiting to see is if they release a pro version in 2-3 years. I really would like to see that battery life improved and the other weird things improved on like fan noise, sticking buttons would be great. If they don't then I'm happy to wait a little while until deck 2 to get that battery life up.
We've got a few years with it. And honestly. They really only said they know another is coming. Which just means the product has been really successful for them. Also lets the people know that it's here to stay. That's all. We are a few years away still imo. So I'll take 3-4 years of gaming on this. I mean within the next year I don't think it will handle some AAA titles like it is now. But we'll see when we reach that road I guess.
@@chrom4ful Right, and that's the part about PCs that keep me from gaming on them. You could have a 3090ti, or two... or more in a single PC to give you 1000+ fps. There are constantly unicorns to chase in that part of gaming, and I'd personally rather stay away from it. Chasing hardware dreams is a young man's game, lol. I find myself becoming a curmudgeon with games and I realize I am only speaking for myself here. If someone wants to drop $400-$600 every year on a new Deck with incremental enchantments, be my guest.
this is so weird. I was JUST watching all of your steam deck videos for recommendations, and BOOM you uploaded a new video for it 1 minute ago. Love all your vids man!
It is funny...same thing happened to me and I just got my Steam Deck is ready to order email yesterday so have been browsing for accessories. Love this channel.
This was SUCH a great video. I love the quality and professionalism that you have. Its just so nice to sit down after a long day and have just a great gaming video from you to watch again. Thankful to God for you man. Please keep the great videos flowing!
I was aware of the Steam Deck but haven’t really thought of purchasing it. But the possibilities of this device is possibly endless! Could use it for an arcade cabinet, maybe a racing cabinet as long as the 360/Xbox One peripherals are compatible. Playing PC games on the go or on a HDTV…..I may have to start putting some money on the side for this!
I wanted to say thank you for this video, I got the case you suggested and I'm very impressed with how much it does help the feel of the deck, everything you said was absolutely spot on. A few other people also suggested it but they didn't make it clear how much it can help with grip. Please continue with your videos, me and my husband watch regular together.
I order my dock and it's coming next week, but I haven't grabbed a shell. I like the one you have so I'll grab the one from your link. I've had my Steam Deck since June and I just started getting into emulation and the Steam Deck is a beast.
You're the only other person I know that owns a pair of Meze 99 Classics. Absolutely wonderful set of headphones and I bought mine originally for use with my Switch, following the testing of LOTS of APTX Low Latency BT cans ... NONE of which (even with APTX LL BT adapter) provided a 'lag free audio' solution. I did a lot more research and opted for the Meze - not dissapointed and I now use them with my Deck :)
I was going through your SteamDeck recommendations just now and all of a sudden I see this video! I’m definitely going to get one now because of your reviews on this lately. Much love from a 5 year subscriber 🙏🏼
I was at university in the early 90s in New Zealand. I don't think all the computers in the country had more than 1gb total RAM, and if you put them all in one place, it would definitely be bigger than your finger 😅😅
Yes, I agree with the Meze 99s, but I do recommend if any one is on a budget or just like an all blacked out version of it, get the Meze 99 Noir, its the same specs and walnut cups but all black and 100 bucks less.
Incredibly insightful! I’m going to be traveling more for work in the near future and I’ve been really torn between this and the OLED Switch. Still haven’t made up my mind completely but this definitely helps!
Great video! Need to get a steam deck but keep wondering when a pro one/V2 will be released. Liked your review style and all the different camera shots etc which went into the editing! :)
I love the Nexdock 360 for my steam deck. I have been able to get world of Warcraft installed and playing on my steam deck and using it with a Bluetooth mouse (Razer Basilisk X Hyperseed) means I don’t have to drag my MacBook with me for short visits with family.
Eric, as someone who also plays WoW...how is performance generally on it? I really only play at 1080p currently on my gaming laptop so i know id stick to that resolution but what about raiding etc? Performance ok? I get mine in about 10 days so excited...
@@YoreHistory it actually performs well. Install protonup-qt and let it install ge-proton 7.24. It doesn’t lag too much but I have left it at the default settings. 1:05 depends on the game you're playing and the quality settings you're playing it at. With the kind of games i've been playing, and at 30fps/lower res with FSR enabled, I've been getting 4 to 6 hours battery life. But yes, power brick is a must have if you're going long distance.
I just got my 512gb steam deck model yesterday I’ve been enjoying it nonstop and this is my first experience with pc gaming so it just feels magical to me😂. Anyways thank you so much for this video I was wondering what would be the best portable power cell so thank you very much for this video!

First of all, I'm learning so much from your channel! Thank you! Like that gutless laptop, what a weird and genius concept. Second, I had expensive wired Sony headphones, my cat completely destroyed them.
Was a bit nervous about trying out a dock for the Steam Deck at first because of all the third party docks that bricked many Switch owner's systems, but since you recommended it, I went ahead and ordered the one in the video and am excited to finally get the Deck on my TV!
It was so funny seeing you hook up the steam deck to a laptop, kind of redundant isn't it? Just use a usb-C hub and plug it into a TV and add a keyboard. I have a gaming laptop, don't need two lol
What shell is the best? Preferably with the front covered too, because we all know that if something protected falls - it falls to the unprotected side...this is the way
I wish I had that wired Xbox 360 controller! It's a pain in the butt to get my wireless Xbox 360 controller to consistently work with Windows and a USB receiver.
Hey Metal Jesus! You should check out this game called Risk of Rain 2 on the Nintendo Switch. The physical copy includes the 1st game as well. Really quick and fun to pick up, I highly recommend it!
I like the look of that case at #4 but the d-pad is pretty close to the edges of the Deck as is, have you noticed it being awkward at all with the case attached?
Make sure you check out all the bundles on steam I would love a video about it I have the Disney and edios ones but they have one for NFS/ ea racing one for COD a decent one for resident evil and lots of others rebuying games sucks less with how cheep games can get on steam
As a much cheaper alternative to the headphones, consider Sennheiser HD 599s, they have a better soundstage (though they are open backed - so you have to be ok with everyone hearing you!) and are also neutral and perfect for metal and are usually on offer for about $100
Docks don't always work as flawlessly as you make it seem, especially on TV's, because you cant tell the Deck what resolution to output while docked (at least right now, without an EDID) which causes a lot of problems trying to run big games.
Just curious, but is there a reason you don't but the fabric strap underneath the Deck? The intention and design of those straps is to give you something to pull on so you can get it out easier. I was just surprised seeing you flop it onto the screen like that, so I was wondering if there was a reason you put it on top vs. on the bottom where it should be. Great video, by the way.

I agree. It’s already way more powerful than the Switch…and it runs newer games pretty well…so there isn’t a need to replace it anytime soon.
