I like how you an Reggie is at the counter then the chairs I think I get to see more of the stuff you all are presenting. Different but I think is better.
Love your channel, Jason love your videos. I was wondering if you knew that Forza 4 is getting delisted. I was wondering if you heard anything about that keep up the good work
The PlayStation 1 is definitely my favorite system of all time. Making this video flooded me with so many memories of good times I’ve had playing this system over the years.
I'm super nostalgic for this system. First one i got with a paycheck from good old blimpie subs. The multitude of games was so exciting. Something about jet moto 2😊😊😊😊
I got a PS1 for Christmas when I was 13 with RE2, Tenchu, and Die Hard Trilogy. Before this I had a Genesis. Consoles made LEAPS and BOUNDS when they came out. Not so much anymore. The PS1 always has a special place in my heart
Slight correction re: PS3 back-compat: every PS3 can play PS1 games! Only PS2 back-compat was removed with later models. The PS1 was always emulated on the PS3's cell processor, so they were able to include it on every revision!
Excellent. I'm 49, and I still remember picking up my Playstation at Walmart at 2am with my buddies. Such awesome memories especially of the first year or two. Blast Chamber, Tekken 1, Twisted Metal 1, Resident Evil, those early games were so fun, and it just reminds me of a great time in my life.
The PS1 is the main console that I grew up with. Some games for people to check out that came out in Europe but not in the US, so many Americans probably don't know about them yet: - Agent Armstrong (pretty decent sidescrolling shooter) - Firo & Klawd (isometric shooter that can be played in coop) - Wing Over (air combat competition game)
PS1 was such a huge part of my childhood. It blew my away. I didn't get mine until probably 1998 or so, maybe 99. But dang was it wild. I'd add an honorable mention about why the retrotink4k may not be for everyone. It's expensive. I think it's $750 for one. But let me assure you, it's worth every penny. It's just that $750 is a lot of money for a lot of people. It does incredible things. Think scaling your nintendo switch to 4K and how beautiful that'd looked on an HDTV (OLED especially). It'll scale your PS3 to 4K. It'll downscale your HD stuff to 240p if you wish. The firmware and the work that's gone into it is nothing short of incredible. The developer has poured thousands of hours of his time into perfecting the feature set, bringing new features to the Tink5X (which at this point is years and years old, yet he still strives to get every last ounce of performance out of that thing). It really is the definitive video scaler to own. You wouldn't be sorry. But if $750 + applicable tax and shipping is too much to swing, the tink5x does a wonderful job and as MJ says in the video you surely won't be dissapointed with it. No comparison to those $20 and $30 video cable converters from amazon. Anywho. The PS1. Yes. What a wonderful system. The mods and things we have available for it today are incredible. Custom shells from muramasa entertainment. Memcard pro. Defender wireless controllers. ODE's. You name it. We have it. You can rock it old school stock on a CRT, or you can HDMI mod the system and connect it to a Tink4k and run it on a huge OLED flatscreen. The options are limitless. The fun is limitless. And if you can't do this work yourself, there are lots of people who make videos to help you learn and lots of people who you can commission to do the work for you. Don't know what else to say other than I love this video! Long live the PS1. The PS1 and PS2 are easily among my favorite consoles of all time and they still see regular use even in a household with a nintendo switch, PS5, gaming PC, etc....
Amazing video, love the buying guides! if I had one feedback on the video it might be that it felt a bit like you where in a hurry, like you guys where short on time, I don’t think anyone would mind if the video got a few minutes longer. Loved the accessories part!
Thankyou MJR for this video! The PS1 is my favorite system of all time. Sometimes when i'm down or feeling nostalgic, i just boot it up for the start up sound. Goosebumps and feelings of pure happiness is what i getting from that sound.
I love that you two recommend lesser known games in this series, the top games lists/videos are always filled with all the same stuff we all already know. It's awesome to watch a video and actually write down a bunch of new games I've never heard of! Love it, looking forward to more updated console guides, it's one of my most watched on your channel. Thank you
I really liked parasite eve 2. I never read a review of the game or heard anyone talk about it. I just bought it on a whim one day and was surprised at how good it was.
This was such an awesome video to check out. The Playstation 1 was the first console me and my younger brother bought together. I still have so many fond memories of playing Spyro and Crash with him. This was such a fun time to check out. Reggie is the Playstation guy for sure, and it a love of the console, and all that just makes it so entertaining. You two together always have such a great time. Thank you both for all you do and can't wait for the next one.
Very good video. Voultar always giving good advice about console maintenance . Reggie, a real fan of PS1, speaking about the system. I really enjoyed the video specially because I recently install the PSIO in the console.
My hidden gem for the PS1 is NASCAR Rumble. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with NASCAR other than the car liveries. On the controller side, 8bitdo’s wireless adapter for PS1/PS2 also works very well. Supports a wide range of Bluetooth controllers, including PS4, PS5, Xbox, and several others (including of course 8bitdo’s own controllers).
Great video MJR and Reggie! You always bring the nostalgia back with the classic systems. I recently started playing Grandia and Resident Evil Director’s Cut. I also want to say a special thank you to Reggie for busting out the one handed controller. In 1999 I was in a work accident and my buddy who owned a game store brought over that controller for me. I played lots of amazing rpgs and believe it or not Tiny Toons Bowling when friends would visit. Great times and amazing system to this day. Thanks dudes.
Great video guys. I'm glad to see you still excited and enjoying the PlayStation. I started collecting for ps1 when it was new. So many good games for the console. When my game collection for ps1 was stolen i thought id never own those games i loved again. When i found a emulation device that comes plug and play with 697 ps1 games i immediately bought it. The super console x saved me thousands of dollars in games. I'm thankful for emulation and can be a good option for those who cant afford the disc version of all the good games. Thanks guys
Just wanted to say I've been watching you guys for years and you still entertain the hell out of me. The playstation 1 has a special place in my heart so thank you for the video. I look forward to seeing more from you guys in the future. Great video! Lots of love from Cornwall UK :)
@10:24 Yes the PlayStation 1 controller is a classic but do you know what it basically is? It's a super NES controller with an extra pair of shoulder buttons which then eventually added analog sticks because of the Nintendo 64
I remember one game I don’t ever hear people talk about, and it’s a awesome tactical/card rpg, was Kartia. I always recommend that for the PS1. Also Sled Storm (I think that’s what it was called). I remember buying it after playing the demo and also remember Rob Zombie music in it.
I love that you guys have been doing updated buying guides! It’s been so long since you’ve shown your PSP collection. I think it would be great if you could do another update on PSP games!
Investments make you money. There's nothing wrong with wanting accessories for your game room that will give you a better experience, but they're not investments
Real value for the Game Shark and some its knock-offs is for playing import games. The devices easily allow for bypassing the region lock. I used one on my NTSC-US PS1 for years before finally purchasing an NTSC-J console.
Thanks Reggie and Metal Jesus.I was a Nintendo kid until PS2 and just recently started venturing into the PS1 genre. Thanks for all the great info. Cheers
Regarding buying component cables (for the PS2 especially) there is an easy way to get a heads up on the better cables. You willl see people online say "get the official ones", You DO NOT need to do this. As with many cheap Chinese manufactured goods they cut corners, and so one of the common ways is by making copper wiring as thin as possible. So when you look online simply check out how thick the cables are in the images. If they look like thin things, or comparative to audio cables, then they're likely going to be not so good, but if they're thicker, then not only are they more robust but they have correct shielding too. Compare images of the official cables against them to see what I mean. So you don't need to fork out a fortune for official - just check the images. You can save a lot this way.
Reggie and Metal Jesus last PS1 video had me revisiting retro game stores trying to pick up the games I had when I was younger. Just picked up Tenchu 2 and Tekken 3 which were always on in my household. Thanks Reggie and Metal Jesus!
PS1 is the console that formed. Some of my best memories. Young enough that I was still living with my parents but old enough to be working so a generation of consoles where I had that rare thing called disposable income lol. Almost every moment of my free time was spent playing 1v1 fighting games with friends getting intoxicated on legal and less than legal substances and just having a great time. The best thing about that system is even if income wasn't as disposable as it used to be. It's such an easy system to emulate there's no reasons anyone who has nostalgia for that console to not recapture that part of their youth. It was twh console where I even discovered genres I didn't even entertain on previous systems such as turn based and real time strategy's and even media based games such as music and later music 2000. Great sedate "stoner" games for solo play lol
This video is very informative. I’ve been wanting to get all the older consoles I had when I was younger and this was first on my list. Thank you guys!!
I picked up a PS1 slim last November for 25$ as part of a black Friday deal at my local retro shop, right now it's been my main system I'm collecting for
Special Note: a new PS1 disc can be removed without breaking that seal on the top by simply pulling the bottom hinge apart and then opening the case like a book where the seal acts as the center binding. Excellent video guys. PS1 is my all-time favorite console still.
N2O: a psychedelic tube shooter filed with all manners of insects with music by the Chemical Brothers. Colony Wars: a space combat game with Starfox-like mission progression and voice-overs by one of the best James Earl Jones sound-a-likes I have ever heard.
Great guide guys! I still have my PSone which I bought from Blockbusters. Like you Jason I didn't go in there to buy a PlayStation, but when I saw that thing it was so cool and at the time unbelievably small, I had to get it! Along with a copy of Final Fantasy 7!
Such fond memories with the ps1. Unfortunately that generation had not aged well other than certain games. I will say most 2d games on the console still look incredible
Man, this video was such a good way to spend 27 minutes. So much nostalgia! The first PlayStation was indeed a memorable console with so many amazing games. I wonder how we survived on those 15 block expensive memory cards lol. I remember the nightmare of deleting a save file to make way for a new game. Thanks for this video! Make more!
If you like the Rollcage games, I would also recommend Firebugs, which started as Rollcage 3 but was rebranded and made a bit more kid friendly. It's still cool though.
The Dualshock controller is my favorite for retro gaming. I still have my original PS2 dualshock I bought in 2010 for PES tournaments! It works like a charm.
I'm so glad Buying Guides have made their return, they are how I got introduced to the channel, 7 years back I think and they are still great, keep on being awesome man
Early versions had the laser sleight weight-distribution wrong. So it ate the plastic, from where the sleight was heavier, faster. This tilted the laser and made those read- and tracking problems. Some people said, that the laser-lens was getting too much heat and that would be the cause of problems. But that is incorrect. Sony fixed this, in later revisions.
The PS1 is the console that gave me my start in the gaming world. I will forever cherish this console and it's games. The startup sound is legendary as well, sends chills down my spine every time i hear it. Almost like hearing it for the first time, every time it boots up.
Ps1 is what turned me into a “mature” gamer at age 10 lol … but really before it was Nintendo and sega , Mario , sonic , megaman , sunset riders …. Well psx enters and its resident evil , tenchu , mgs and tekken … these blew me away as a young impressionable kid , I’ll never forget it …great video guys thank you for posting
Thanks to Reggie and Voultar for helping with this video! Check out their channels: www.youtube.com/@The_RadicalOne & www.youtube.com/@Voultar
I just wanted too say, you and reggie are the reason why I gave classic games a chance back in 2017 and i'll always be grateful for that

Just as an FYI, every PS3 is compatible with PS1 disc games.
Yall are life savers, man, looking to do ps1,ps2,psp and ps3 this is gonna help alot for the ps1 part
The PlayStation 1 is definitely my favorite system of all time. Making this video flooded me with so many memories of good times I’ve had playing this system over the years.
Me too I love that system❤
I'm super nostalgic for this system. First one i got with a paycheck from good old blimpie subs. The multitude of games was so exciting. Something about jet moto 2😊😊😊😊

Great video! Definitely a thorough video on starting a ps1 collection! Makes me feel like my video on it is pre school shit lol

@@ToTBoO there no lag, I havea fps counter and and I only play PS1 games on my PS3 for now

Me b my lil brother played a blast chamber demo for hours lol love that game
Though only a few ps3s can play ps2 games EVERY PS3 can play PS1 games
Easy way to remember is if your PS3 has 2 USB ports, it can't play PS2 games. Every PS3 model can play PS1 games.
Couldn’t think of a better person to make a PlayStation video with!
When I first held a Dualshock, I was blown away. I was like, this feels so good

@@initial_kd Definitely! Tenchu blew our minds. Never had seen a game like it.
Yo Bushido Blade was where it's at! My brother had 1 and 2 on 3DO and on PS1

Ah nostalgia overload seeing the trippy colored memory card interface with the interactive blocks
for me it was the blaster with the button on the side
Great video. Thank you both. PS1 is one of my all time favorites.
My hidden gem for the PS1 is NASCAR Rumble. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with NASCAR other than the car liveries.
And Grip on the PS4/Xbox/PC which is from the same developers but just updated for modern systems! th-cam.com/video/81UOQMNA_BY/w-d-xo.html
I know you've probably heard this before, but I would kill for a Metal Jesus & Reggie podcast. I could listen to these guys for hours!
I second this
The Dualshock controller is my favorite for retro gaming. I still have my original PS2 dualshock I bought in 2010 for PES tournaments! It works like a charm.
Been my go to channel for game recs when i get into a new console. Shout out radical reggie!
I have fond memories of playing the Twisted Metal games on my PS1 back in the day, especially the 2nd game.
second one was the best.
Axle Power!
I was always a Mr. Grim guy myself. Fastest ride with a special that did the most damage.
I'm so glad Buying Guides have made their return, they are how I got introduced to the channel, 7 years back I think and they are still great, keep on being awesome man
The original PS1 Buying Guide was released back in 2015...and so much has changed since then! It was fun going back and updating this for 2024!
@@MetalJesusRocks wow, it really been that long, crazy, here's to many more years with the channel man
Awesome video guys
Early versions had the laser sleight weight-distribution wrong. So it ate the plastic, from where the sleight was heavier, faster.
This tilted the laser and made those read- and tracking problems.
Some people said, that the laser-lens was getting too much heat and that would be the cause of problems.
But that is incorrect. Sony fixed this, in later revisions.
6:57 Xenogears and Silent Hill save files. I approve.
The ps1 is a system iv been trying to get into
The PS1 is the console that gave me my start in the gaming world.
Awesome video! I adore the suggestions at the end and will definitely be working my way through some of them.
Thanks for the time stamps
No problem 👍
Metal Jesus thank you for your channel man. Always brings me memories of Video games fantasy nostalgia. I hope you grow to 1 million this year!
God, love that cartridge insert sound in the beginning of the intro!
