Imagine if all companies competed freely and without sanctions. Customers would benefit greatly.
It would be nice to see Huawei unrestricted again.
I was expecting the Copilot key instead of the right Ctrl. Thank god!
Yes glad to see it doesn't have it! But boy Windows sure is getting so bloated now. Time to run BloatNosy and remove all the bloaty bits from MS.
Anti-reflective film is really important to have on glossy screen laptops and we don't see it enough. It's good to see that Huawei didn't miss out on this.
I'm always glad to see another one of your videos. You deserve many more followers & views with the quality you put out there. Thanks for all the work!
FYI, I started following your channel about 6 years ago when doing research on the Xiaomi Notebook Pro. I'm writing this comment on that machine right now and, while it has some battle scars, it still runs very smooth even though it's been used for hours every day and has traveled across the world with me. This Matebook might be a good replacement for it though.
Thank you for the comment and support. Those old Notebook Pro from Xiaomi where great back in the day. This Huawei is really impressive and would be a huge step up for you.
TechTablets strikes again! The first in-depth review I've seen of the 2024 model. Heading towards 500k suscribers and fully deserved!
Slowly heading there it's been a long road! But thank you for your support.
The only other person covering these types of devices so quicky is Tech Spurt, I watch them both regularly.
I have a question... in Linux... do all devices work? Does the fingerprint recognition and camera work too? thank you....
tell me how well Linux works on this laptop? the screen works in the declared 120Hz? everything else how does it work?
I love the display size 3:2, but I hate the glare screen: finally Huawei manage this problem wtih anti-glare film, also on Oled screen...amazing! It's only a pity for the lack of HDMI and audio jack. This device it's a Macbook replace, but better
Audio jack was a surprise I think they should have left that in. I guess in their quest for weight reduction they made that call. One type a usb and 3.5mm wouid have been perfect.
In my country, they are throwing a free ear bud and dock. So, it will make up for what's missing.
Amazing review Chris Sir
Glad you liked it!
Is the keyboard deck bendible?
what about the thermals under medium strain? I usually work with many tabs in Firefox open and MS Office apps, but my XPS 13 Plus with 1280P manages to get really hot on this. Sometimes on a hot day, it becomes so slow, even unusable. Would you say this laptop with a more powerful chip handles heat better ??
Also, do you have any clarity on when will you be reviewing any Spandragon laptops? Like Yoga Slim 7? Super curious how would they compare.
Thanks for the great video.
I wonder the fan noise especially when it is connected to 4k Monitor.
I'm using MacBook M1 which has no fan noise.
Could you give me more information about the fan noise?
I’ve been running it connected up to my 4k monitor and the fan is always on but low rpm you can’t really hear it.
Huawei makes amazing quality laptops, that is for sure. I wish they were more easily available, especially where I live.
Is the battery life the same as macbook air?
11:00 - The reasoning is you are supposed to keep your files on D so that they can be recovered or Windows can be reinstalled on C: without losing the files on D . 22:03 - CPU Package 105 Celsius, ouch. Thanks for the video.
Yes it's that. Similar temps on all the Ultra laptops I've covered 😕
@@Techtablets Really worried about the Ultra line up. At work our most recent batch of Intel devices are cooking themselves. 30/50 in just the first few months. They last a few weeks before the heat damage begins bluescreening the device multiple times a day. The techs replace the motherboards on most of them, they last a few more weeks and repeat.
They are very power hungry and heat up so quickly so not surprised. It's not just Intel, I've tested 8845HS laptops and its' the same story they hit the high 90s.
@@ericneo2 I mainly live in Thailand which is hot and I would never buy a laptop with more than an i5 in it as they just used to overheat
When you reinstall Windows, files on C drive don't get deleted though
Hey, what are you using for connecting your external GPU?
Thunderbolt 4 eGPU.
Hey,
I'm curious about those TDP results - they are claiming 40W, but during Your test it shows 50W. Is this possible that You have received device to review with higer TDP value?
It's possible I thought the same but the bios up I just got and used in this video is a general public one? Maybe the set 50w now for reviews and later drop it to 40w.
What about visibility in daylight? So far, I've been using matte screens and I'm curious if it's possible to work in the sun
It's one of the best for a glossy display with reduced reflections BUT they are still present. Really usable if not in direct sunlight.
@@Techtablets Currently I'm working on the ROG G14 with a matte screen. Do you think the visibility will be at least as good on the X Pro as on the G14?
Maybe you could record a short film demonstrating the visibility of the text in daylight?
Looks great! Huawei P20 pro was my favorite phone ever and that goes for pretty much anyone who had it!
P30 was and is still a beast 5 years later
Does this have the thinnest bezels or at least part of the top 3 thinnest bezels?
They have to be some of the slimmest yes, especially the bottom bezel.
hey, what about PWM and flikering ? i think 155h model will be better than 185h with lower TDP (28wvs40w) and better battery life
No flicker that I can see. Yes that 155H should have better thermals.
Thank you so much🌹
No thank you for watching!!
@TechTablets (timeframe 00:19:12-00:19:20) : Chris, as this laptop's product line name suggests, you mention that the Huawei Matebook X Pro isn't really for gaming but for productivity or "business" as you call it (which inherently indicates a lot more static content being shown on the screen), however this laptop is equipped with an OLED screen which is a lot more sensitive to burn-in issues compared to TN, VA or IPS panels. Compared to other panel technologies OLED seems to be the worst choice for productivity purposes at this point in time : look at today's video from Monitors Unboxed for more evidence (3 month usage review).
One could argue that Huawei made the wrong decision here by opting for an OLED for a business laptop. I wonder how this screen would like like after 6 months of productivity use...
I would love if you also reviewed the Xiaomi RedmiBook Pro (2024) as I read good things about it and the price is great.
Not sure I'll buy that one to review sorry.
Most important thing. How well it does with docking station?
Using one right now with TB4 display out to my 4k120hz screen no issues. Docking works well as expected. No cutting out, no drive disconnections etc perfect so far.
@@Techtablets wow. Thanks for the answer.
I have an older honor laptop, some 4 years old with ryzen processor. Everything is still perfect, but sadly it does not support docking.
Looking to upgrade next year, and im researching upfront.
Alhtough these type of machine have fairly limited space for adding memory, and stuff like that i find them very well built. And still, being able to install whatever software, not being bound by echosystem, still means a lot.
Thank you for the info, once again.
Best review I ever seen in youtube great work. Unfortunately this will be last intel and Microsoft window from Huawei. The US get crazy from this laptop and they ban Intel ship license to Huawei 😢.
So I read and that's such a loss for the pc world, but hopefully they can use AMD?
@@TechtabletsThey already banned from AMD since 2019 😢. Huawei working on developing their own processors equivalent to M3 and operating systems harmony OS. In my opinion it might succeed in china not global.
I appreciate immensely the inclusion of the discussion of linux support, we need to start considering other os as Windows becomes more unreliable in terms of privacy and ownership of our devices. Great video 👍
And how bloated and slow Windows 11 is becoming. It's only getting worse!
The most trust worthy youtuber ladies and gentlemen, thank you Chris for another amazing review
Thanks for watching
How good is it when connecting a 45 inch monitor?
I have it connected to my 42" LG CX and it's great.
Availability in Europe? It's not sold in my country at all.
Not sure but should be most countries.
Will be in UK
Wow this graphics performance is not bad considering how thin and light the laptop is!
My thoughts exactly, it's very good for the size and weight of it.
Thanks for the Linux test
Is there a review in work for asus zenbook duo 14 2024?
Yea I did that months ago here: th-cam.com/video/pBQ-RwXhJwc/w-d-xo.html
@@Techtablets thank you so much!
Stunning device, but the battery life is rather disappointing which is a dealbreaker for me.
For those that are interested in buying one: On May the 8th the US revoked Intels license to sell CPUs to Huawei. This might affect long-term availability.
Powerful hardware and that screen res I did expect it. Really needs like 99wh battery but then the weight and if they have room. Oh I just read it was Qualcomm chips but also Intel, damn not good as they make some amazing PC hardware.
Even I as a Samsung knight, I admit I love what Huawei ans Honor Magic are doing on hardware
Could be much better if it's 'convertible' ( 180°) fold since it's already a touchscreen.
2.1lbs, 5.1". WOW! Beautiful laptop.. the only thing I don't like is the huge gaudy logo.. other than that, one of the nicest laptops I've ever seen. I missed this one at CES this year. I didn't see it there.
This wasn't at CES or MWC, only recently announced in China first and now Europe.
Is it a fan less laptop?
Now it has two fans inside
Thank u for showing Linux , love it!
My pleasure!
Watching this on the 2018 Matebook X Pro. These things are still going strong, feel like a premium laptop, even by today's standards (and have more ports, lol).
Why is the screen called "flexible"?!
Nice, but that is a garbage webcam. That is a super important feature for a business laptop.
Garbage no but not amazing. It was a bit choppy with the Ai virtual backgrounds.
Huawei seems to be able to hit 1,000 nit on their flexible OLED without resorting to Tandem OLED that Apple needed to do.
Tandem OLED reaches >1600 nits!
Tandem OLED was out on Honor smartphones first. The dual OLED tech allows for less power consumption at higher brightness. So, it's unfortunate that Huawei didn't follow Honor's lead as Apple did.
I haven't seen anybody actually verify 1000 nits, seems most people are getting around 600.
Please review vivo x100s
I have the X100 Ultra coming
@@Techtablets 🙏 thanks, looking forward to it
I got to see a demo pre-order unit, which I was about to go for, but what surprised me, is that the lower tier version, the Matebook 14 has Huawei pen support, while this top tier one does not 🤯
It's $600 more on top of that.....How is that even possible?
They always mention to screw something up.
Pretty stupid if you ask me.
Other than that, stupendous machine, with an amazing screen, way better than the Matebook 14.
Why choosing this to MacBook air ??? Or tò MacBook pro since cost Is pretty close....
Depends if you prefer Windows or MacOS.
@@Techtablets ok but technically speaking why choosing this Matebook????
how is the standby drain compared to a macbook? the main reason I swiched to macbook air was that I can put it down for a week and the battery lost like 2 percent.
2 percent in a week, that's definatley not true, my mac book pro with m3 pro loses around 20% in a day on stadby, a day being full 24 hours.
2 percent? That's crazy good.
@@Techtablets that's why I'm asking about battery drain, it will be either the matebook x pro or macbook pro. The thing I hate about macbooks is the fact that they make the next Iteration worse if they realize the current product is to good for the price
@techtablets Imagine this laptop with the new Snapdragon X Elite!
The screen edge is curved like phone or tablet. I'm not sure if laptop users like it or not.
It's fine not large enough to be an issue and it gives it a modern look.
@@Techtabletsmore like a macbook look lol
-Stick snapdragon x elite in it and Huawei can have my money.
-I need those USB-C earphones.
It would be also perfect then with that chipset and 3.5mm hpj.
First real comment
Thank you. Yes so many stupid spam bots and TH-cam does nothing about it!
Another perfect work from huawei company when it comes to innovation huawei is the one who are progress when it comes to over all performance in technology even they are restricted in other aspects.they also raising the competition among the other brands like samsung and apple. Look what apple pad 2024 they adapt the light weight that huawei first did but still its not bezelles.huawei also is the go when it comes to premium gadgets but will not compromise its quality and your budget. look at there phone tablet laptap and watches they give it innovative upgrade not like other brand that it took so slow for them to innovate (hi,apple) 😂theyr just making out of money from simple upgrade thats not worth it.and it cost much.again congrats huawei,by the way im still happy using the huawei matepad 13.2 its 4months already but its make me like it more and more😘😘😘🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Bitter ka lang kuya kasi wala kang pera pang apple products
Can't wait for the Snapdragon Versions 😅. Unless Intel makes a come back later this year.
Just on the time I'm watching this video, Microsoft has released their new Surface lineup with Snapdragon X processors... That's gonna become interesting.
As I am watching, the laptop is in my shopping cart. I am sold. Huawei is giving lots of freebies for pre-order. Thanks for such a detail review.
when it first came out it was very impressive in build and performance. It hasn't change much, and doesn't need to, but competition has caught up. For the price alone it can't compete like it use to, especially with the negatives you've outlined.
While this hardware looks seriously impressive and lightweight and the OLED is a nice inclusion, that battery performance is kind of appalling. An m3 macbook of a similar price and performance has literally almost three times the battery life in real world tests.
DOA. X Elite performance is real. There's nothing in any Intel based chip that is better as per recent test by a non Qualcomm group confirms X Elite beats any Intel chip in CPU performance and performs equally in emulation. All that with 10-58% more battery run times.
And how is the graphics? And what worries me is x86 support still up and down with emulation.
I'm sure keen to test X Elite and hopefully will next week at Computex.
The LG Gram that LG should have released.
Yes and speaking of the Gram, i'm working on my review of it. Also an impressively think and light laptop but at 16-inches. It's very good but the thermals and throttling aren't good with the LG.
@@Techtablets Great. While here in Switzerland LG has an awful distribution (and US keyboard layouts are hard to get), it'll be great to have a direct comparison. Nice work
This computer is almost perfect, hope to see Huawei’s own PC chips soon, which bring longer battery life to users
They will have to have their own chips at this rate with the new sanctions.
Every time they release a new one, I hope they stop using Intel. I kinda value battery life in portable devices, which Intel doesn't deliver.
Uggggh why oled. For programmers purposes it will burn in a year. Also it really needs airjet cooling for that price and design
I've got an OLED it's a LG CX 42" years old now and It's on at least 7 hours a day maybe more and no burn. The trick is to use screen saver of blank set to 1 minute. Auto hide taskbar, don't run 100% brightness nonstop and you should be fine. The last time I saw burn in AMOLED/OLED was my Galaxy S6.
I am a student should i buy it
6 hours just doing some spreadsheets is painful. Hard pass from me.
Huawei is the best brand in the world. There's no question about it. I wish EU would ban the american junk and let us have propper tech.
Only if macbooks M1/M2/M3 didn't exist...
I was in the same boat but now with this and how it edits 4k video I'm no sad I sold my MacBook Pro 16 M1 Pro. And then this build, screen and the weight is much better my MB was just same heavy...
@@Techtablets I see... my only problem with these windows laptops until the new Snadpragon X Elite laptops come up, is that battery and noise levels are not comparable with macbooks...
Only if Macbooks could actually be of any use to professionals outside of the video/illustration/spreadsheet/music needs.
Try being a CAD engineer or an architect with a macbook, or a CGI artisti (like myself). No support for anything, nobody uses them because they are beyond useless with negligible software support.
Would love to take that hardware for a spin, but from my perspective they are almost these exotic niche products of no real value.
I guess my point is the only way an apple laptop may be the "go to" product in this field is if you're someone whose software needs align with that of a youtube creator in general. For spreadsheet/office use nobody really needs an m2 or m4 tbh.
@@aljosacebokli well that can be for your 'sector'. I've worked in several IT / dev companies and I can tell you that macbooks are the de facto standard since years... and for people 'just' using it for spreadsheet / office, having a completely silent laptop that last even days without charging it it can be a huge difference too
@@sssssalva1 I very much doubt that apple machines are the industry standard in the it/programming fields as most of these professionals will support Windows infrastructure or write software for Windows, which has over 70% market share globally.
Mac OS has like a 15% market share total, unlikely to make it the prevalent standard in any field.
I've worked through small studios to big companies to international corps in London and the only time I've seen a Mac is when I freelanced for a branding agency.
My gf is an EA for finance and accounting firms and she has never been issued anything but a windows laptop by her employers.
I guess my point is that the "oh but there's Mac why buy XY" really doesn't hold much water outside of the TH-cam creator community.
Again, I think the hardware is really good and I'm also waiting to see what Qualcomm shows us this year for Windows.
This is a price with dedicated graphic card but a bit better than integrated graphic..... Skip.
Nice laptop, but no chance this is the best Windows business laptop with Snapdragon X laptops inbound (providing they get close to claimed performance and efficiency).
Hmm yes but it's not out yet and ARM so still not everything runs well if X86. There are still some issues and when emulating it will not be as good as native. But hopefully the new X laptops I'll see in Taipei at Computex really looking forward to seeing if they live up to the hype.
For business use-case shouldn't be many problems, all Microsoft software will be fine. For cases where specific software is called for then perhaps non-native programs become a stumbling block. ASUS set to unveil their first one about 7 and half hours from now, and likely quite a few more in coming week or so with all the leaks flying around.
Well I found most X86 programs ran but performance wasn't there with some. Hopefully I'll get some hands-on time with it with ASUS once i'm there. The ARM powered Robo & Kama really impressed me so that X should be something.
I might be wrong but I would really wait and see with the Snapdragon X.....their last one wasn't great. And the OS is Microsoft not Apple. Apple have switched CPU's 3 times - successfully. Microsoft aren't even switching, only adding support....
@@catman99Well we're all waiting to see, not long now.
6hours of light use @30% brightness is BAD
The screen res takes its toll. If you watch only video then it's about double but browsing with WiFi.
Super sexy hardware, but battery life and heat are dealbreakers considering that this is meant to be an ultra mobile laptop. The Macbook Air is still the king of mobile productivity.
Apple fanboys coming soon...oh wait they already did.
Haha of course they did, and fun fact I had a M1 Pro MBP 16" and it was great but I think this is better and now how it handles video editing I don't miss my MBP.
@@Techtablets Thank you for your honest reviews as always, sir. Keep up the good work 🤍
Thank you.
@@Techtablets I prefer the MB Pro 14 (M3Pro), costing a similar amount as it has far better battery life, as good a display, similar keyboard, trackpad and speakers, but the Mac runs mostly cold and silent. Also the Mac has far better IO. But as far as Windows laptops go, this resembles what Apple would make if doing Windows, and my first choice, though I am still unsold by this year's Intel and AMD chips. Thankfully, Huawei have recognised this and given a nice new design with added features.
Can a reluctant Apple user speak up? Im mostly stuck in the Apple ecosystem because of my kids. No iPhone would mean no FaceTime with them, no parental controls over them, no easy sending of full quality vids with them, no AirDrop with them, etc. if it weren’t for them, I’d have a NothingPhone at the moment. iPhone is pretty mediocre, really.
… that said, the Mac laptops are Apples best product. I had a M1 pro MacBook Pro, was flawless. Upgraded to a M3 pro MacBook Pro, also flawless. Having a laptop with instant on/off, and almost no battery drain when closed, is really useful for business. And performance is great (I also have a top tier windows gaming laptop, and for daily usage outside of games, the MacBook Pro is snappier).
Windows or MacOS is six of one, half dozen of another. Basically equivalent for normal folk.
This Huawei definitely looks nice though. Cannot deny that.
Once the new intel low power chips are in everything, and once MS fixes the sleep implementation in Windows, Apple loses its real advantage. Also cannot deny that.
Huawei can't do good battery on laptops.
not huawei, its intel's issue, if this were built with an ARM processor, this will actually be a perfect laptop, i guess huawei wont be able to use qualcom elite's chips
too bad it only has Intel processors, which I boycott
No ports, no buy. Skip
Huawei........ Time to unsubscribe. Enjoy :D
🤡 Been covering them since the Mate 10. Oh no one sub less what will I do. 😂
Get over yourself!
cope harder.
I subbed @@Techtabletsjust because of this comment. :D
Beautiful laptop as every year's model. However for the price it is still better to get a macbook. I'm a windows user myself and two of my coworkers have a few previous year's model of this laptop and the battery is almost dead, with 1~2 hours of autonomy. As a windows user it is difficult for me to completely migrate to macos but it is a shame that Windows laptops equally or even higher priced do not offer the same quality of the hardware in macbook laptops.
intel=overheating
The Ryzen 9 8845HS I've tested also does the same. They all hit those high temps briefly unfortunately it's not just one brand. But AMD still has the lead with gaming iGPU performance.
@@Techtablets reviewing the p70 ultra sir?
