I had one that had rust in it and the way I cleaned mine out and made it like new again is I used an acid to dissolve the minerals that were in there. I did it with the reservoir off so that it would not get into the engine and damage something there. What I did was use some iron out spray which is acidic It is a different formula than the powder which may also still give good results. I just turned it around as it dissolved the deposits until it looked clean. I just made sure not to keep it on the two metal probes that are to tell if the coolant is low. I made sure it got to that spot last so there would be the least exposure of them to the cleaning chemicals. Maybe coffee maker cleaner would also work since some of them are citric acid or lactic acid and and possibly safer. Just make sure to rinse it well to get the acid out. Mine looked almost like new again. Of course the coolant was changed so it would not look like that all over again. I did not see more rust. I must have flushed all or most of it out. Use deionized water and not the hose! It is a little bit expensive and you will need a few gallons but since it is hard to get it all out you will want it clean going in.
Hi thanks for the video what products did you use exactly and how long will you let trample the tank? thank you have a good day and thank you very much for your video
@@totalcarrepairsandtuning6171 Ok thanks on your first step i see you use a water with soap and after what is the product in the blue spray (brake cleaner?) And at end to your video what the product you put in the thank with the plastic cup Thank you have a nice day
All good and well but for me the the cheapest and easiest way to clean your coolant tank from the inside , mixture of water, sea or building sand and dish washer and shake well does the trick, just don't forget to give the tank a nice rins to remove the sand after cleaning.😂

When you own an original car you restore not rebuy
Baking soda neutralizes acid (vinegar)
Yeah I was wondering why he did that ...
There's a product called Retro-brite used for electronics made of plastic which yellows out. That might work to restore the whiteness...
Will try it and make a video also with it . thanks for the idea
What was that black powder thing from the cup that you poured inside the cointainer?
Probably cat litter to scrub the insides of the coolant tank.
All those chemicals and labor, might as well buy a aftermarket. Plus if you have a sensor inside the reservoir, can't really use all those things.

We used about 5 liters of cheap vinegar and baking soda and we left the coolant tank for about 12 hours into it .
