You explained the binding perfectly. I love that you described what you were doing along with showing, and multiple times. The binding process has always been a bit of a mystery to me. I sew my binding to my project, on the front, so the finished stitching line looks really untidy. I usually end up hand sewing the binding down. That puts me off making a quilt. The neverending hand sewing ! I'm really confident now to sew binding on from the back. Thank you so much
Love your videos! I am a Peanuts addict!!!! I want to make a Peanuts uilt for ME !! I’ve made quilts for everybody so it’s my turn. I love the pattern you used. I’m also a Half-Square Triangle addict. You can do endless things with them. I’ve made 4 Carpenter Star quilts and I think it’s my new fave pattern. I need to find a bunch of assorted peanuts fabrics so I make sure I get everybody in the gang!
Hi Penny, I heard about your channel from Maymay and have just started watching your videos. I’ve been sewing almost 50 years, having made my Kids clothes, wedding dresses, bridal party dresses, you name it! I have always loved homemade quilts and have made a few but always seemed to get bored with them after piecing the top and never really finished very many til the end. Watching this binding video you made it look so simple! I am thoroughly enjoying your videos and hope to get back into quilts again hopefully with more success at completing them. You’re such a great teacher! Thank you for making these videos!
Ran across some of your videos today. I am ready to get back into quitting and need some refreshing. I realized I first saw you on Mrs Coghill. Anyway, great explanations. Thank you.
Welcome! Yes, Brooke has come into the shop multiple times, and she videoed her curtains. She’s so sweet. I’m glad you’re getting back into quilting. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Thanks for the sweet comment!
Thank you for your assistance with this! I do have a question - when sewing the top side of the binding, how wide is the seam allowance? Is it still 1/4” or do you stitch on the fabric edge?
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve watched several videos on binding, and yours is the first one that shows I don’t have to pivot at the 1/4 seam before corners of the quilt edges. Going to do this method for now on. Thanks again.
I am a new subscriber and new to sewing, l have a questions When you are doing a quilt what kind of batting does it take And each block can i sew in a design then sew my blocks together? Thank You for sharing your wonderful skills in Quilting. Laters all the way fr. Dallas Tx
Welcome! Thanks for watching and thanks for the sweet comment! You can sew your blocks together at the end or you can do what’s called quilt as you go. We use 100% cotton batting and also 80/20 batting. We keep several brands in stock.
Whenever I use 2.5 inch binding it’s too wide and when I flip it over there’s lots of binding showing more so than the back. I have to pull it somewhat taught otherwise the binding feels like there’s nothing supporting it. I’m using 1/4 inch seam but I’m thinking of using a wider seam to take a bigger bite of the binding or else use 2 1/4 “ binding. You don’t get that issue??
I tried a tip I saw and it worked for me. 2.5” binding sewn on with a 3/8” seam. It turns so the the fold comes right to the stitch line. Of course, I hand stitch to finish the binding, so that may or may not work for machine stitched finishing.
Best binding tutorial I have seen-thank you as I have 7 table runners to bind!!!
Thank you!!
You have made binding so easy for me! Thank you!
Yay!!! Glad to hear it!

You’re so sweet! Thank you! And yes, you need to get back into it! 😁
Did you use the regular machine foot to sew down the binding on top? I struggle with having a nice straight seam. 😮
Wow! Another fabulous tutorial! Thanks for your easy to follow instructions! You really are making me want to purchase a machine and try sewing again!
Go for it!
Definitely the easiest way I've ever seen binding put on. You're a wonderful teacher ! 🌹
Thank you!!
Lovely❤

Great quilt.
Thank you!!
I had the same teacher in 5th and 6th grade in Seattle, Washington and he loved the chipmunks and Peanuts and always called me Lucy!!!
Absolutely love the backing fabric!!!
Me too!!! Thanks!
Thank you for your assistance with this! I do have a question - when sewing the top side of the binding, how wide is the seam allowance? Is it still 1/4” or do you stitch on the fabric edge?
I stitch along the fabric edge which basically amounts to 1/4 inch seam allowance. Hope that helps.

That is the easiest way I have seen demonstrated to bind anything.

I’ve always used 2 1/2 inch binding and a quarter inch seam. It’s always worked for me.
Try a 2 1/4 inch strips and see how that does for you. Worth a shot.
