Hey Tyson, thanks for the shout out! The '99 cl has been a dream to own.. I've put about 6k miles in two years of ownership with basic maintenance and wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere!! You my friend either find gems or turn them into ones👌
Such a great car - very under appreciated vehicle. You can really see the Accord styling from the front doors forward. The rear end has some funky taillight shapes which have the car more character than the Accord coupe. Great car and review, Tyson!
Oh man this brings back memories! I had one in this very color (cyclone blue metallic) but the 1998 3.0 CL Premium (auto). I loved that thing and it was plenty fast for this 24yo at the time (2004-2006 or so). You never see these anymore! Beware transmission issues on the V6 though mine had no issues at 90k-126k miles when I sold it.
My first car was a 97 3.0cl. I suppose it was nothing super special but I loved it. Doubt it'll ever be widely appreciated, but I would definitely like to own one again some day for my "collection".
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! We owned a 97 3.0L CL for a number of years. Only if they made that car with a manual + 3.0L I'd likely still have it today. The design was so futuristic at the time.
Your red CL was really stunning. Wish I had bought it. It was a gem. And the TL you brought back to life. And the integra GS sedan you bought from the lady and you changed that timing belt quickly. Probably my 3 favorites I can think of. This blue one's a beauty.
Great memories! I remember when we first started building these on line 1 at the Marysville plant. Then it eventually moved to the East Liberty plant. Thanks again Tyson for the fantastic content my friend. 👍🏻🇺🇸
I absolutely love these cars! And yes Tyson, you certainly can daily drive one; I do. I've had my '99 2.3CL 5 speed for about 5 months now, and it is such a fun car. I've had so much trouble trying to think of something that I don't like about it that I've given up! :) Thanks for showing us this super clean example, and props to Jake for taking care of it!
Always been a Prelude guy myself. I've had 2 BBs over the past 22yrs. Still have a 94 SI. I always thought of these CLs as a 4G Prelude in a suit. Similar to the 350z/G35 relationship. They were great cars for sure. Only issue now, much like the Preludes, parts are becoming very tough to find. Actually, not becoming hard to find, they ARE hard to find lol.
It feels very rare to see that gen CL in that good of condition. So refreshing! By the way I don't know how you deal with that Arizona heat! Up here in Northern Utah it's been over 100 most days.
I just got rid of my 2.3 Cl one of the smoothest riding cars I’ve driven except the automatic transmission. But it’s a shame Acura discontinued most of the parts to maintain it. That’s why I sold it. If u guys didn’t know the history there’s an article from Acura on why they made this car and what components they used for the suspension and handling. Look in the engine and underneath the car you’ll notice components that you have to pay extra now for a luxury ride and a performance handling suspension. Even though the engine wasn’t really powerful. The car was made to be Basic luxury.
My brother had this car and I remember referring to it as an "Accord in a Tuxedo". I always liked this car and sort of think of this as a successor not to the Legend coupe but to the Mark 8 coupe from Lincoln. I think that if someone older was getting out of the big American boat cars and wanted something smaller, easier to maneuver, just as stylish and waaaaay more reliable than this would have been a great choice.
I'm still hanging on with my '97 3.0. I've had it for 15 years and am kinda at the point I'm ready to move on (to a Cadillac ATS coupe?). The problem is it's just so god damn clean! Other than rust on the right rear wheel well. That beautiful Flamenco black is just so gorgeous. Just shy of 200k miles, it might be time. It frustrated me with emissions last year, so I just got antique plates. Fine, since I don't drive it in the winter. It's just doing weird stuff like randomly dying out, then running perfect.
Very cool. I was never a huge family of this design but I always wanted to swap the electronic dash, etc into a coupe Accord EX. I'm surprised more people didn't swap the interior. I think I remember one person doing it.
getting a cherry 3.0 '99 tomorrow! to add to the rest of the quasi-Hugie fleet... we got the 94 GS, 2001 GS-R, 91 NSX and a 93 Acadia Green CB9 Wagon =)
Love this gen acura cl for so many reasons the front dash, it's literally a honda ACCORD CD7, the engine choice tho I would strongly choose the 98-99 for the peppy-er f23a engine not that there's anything wrong with f22b1 it just got that better kick when you gas it lol, lastly no one knows about or mess with it 😊
Hey Tyson, I always watch you I like what your doing. I just brought a 1992 Acura Legend Coupe. I’m having one issue I need a another hood and I’m having a hard time finding one. Do you happen to know where one would be?
Hey Tyson, Good news is I found one finally that wasn’t rusted out. I live in NY but the hood I purchased today is at a junkyard in South Carolina so it’s time for a road trip.
That will definitely vary depending on who you ask. Maybe ILX Hybrid. It was only offered for a couple years starting in 2013 and it was underpowered, not to mention it only had 16-inch wheels and kind of just looked cheap inside and out. I used to not like the 4GTL at all but now I'm becoming a fan of them, especially a 2012+ AWD manual.
Did I hear correctly this pristine example is from Ohio? Would love to hear details on previous owner and how this thing managed to avoid the effects of salt / winters up there, especially with the mileage as was certainly driven.

Thank you my friend! That '99 couldn't have found a better home!
Gotta love the Honda/Acura's of the 90's!!!👍
Agreed

Totally! This car is pretty instantly recognizable.

Agreed! Definitely a unique ride when it came out, and even more so today.
I can’t think of another car with thinner A and C pillars. Super clean CL!!!
Definitely!

Oh yes! Those were all great ones!
One of my all time favorite Acura’s
Definitely underappreciated!
Great memories! I remember when we first started building these on line 1 at the Marysville plant. Then it eventually moved to the East Liberty plant. Thanks again Tyson for the fantastic content my friend. 👍🏻🇺🇸
Wow, that's some solid history! Thanks for being part of the team that put these machines together.
A lovely example. It's so nice to see someone at HQ preserving this!
I agree!
It's been a long time since I've seen a first-gen CL. Good to know this one is being cared for!
Totally agreed!
I miss the car era of in-dash CD players and cassettes!
Haha same here!
This was the first time I've noticed so much of a resemblance to the Accord coupe of it's era! Always enjoy your niche content Tyson!
Agreed, and thank you!
I’ve liked this model since its initial release. I also remember watching and rewatching the Motorweek review of the ‘97 model.
Oh I’ll have to check that out!

Awesome, glad your CL is serving you well!
I admire your enthusiasm for these cars I've own a 88 acura integra RS and a 2000 acura integra LS. I've always wanted a GS-R or a Type R integra
Thank you!

That’s very true!
Such a cool one. Getting hard to find these days. I’m sure a 5spd is pure joy. Love it!
Definitely! The 5 spd is an awesome gearbox

I know, seriously. This summer has been nuts. But I've lived in AZ for 18 years so I guess I've become accustomed to it.

Very good perspective on all that!

Flamenco is a great color on those
Old school head turner for sure.
Thanks!
Love your channel, I really appreciate the content.
Awesome, thanks!
Very cool.

I don’t know what you mean about the electronic dash!
@TysonHugie Electronic climate control vs the manual in the Accord.
@@andydhillon1977 ohh gotcha! I was thinking of the instrument cluster.
Cool! Was hoping to see some CL content
You got it!

No problem boss, what's the best way? (also passed on the CL unfortunately!)@@TysonHugie
Off topic but struck me recently … the Honda Ridgeline would make a perfect Acura truck. So refined and capable. It already has SH-AWD!
I’ve thought the same thing before 😎
i had a ‘98 2.3CL… 5 speed to go… very peppy, would buy another for sure
@@MH-fb5kr they are great cars
Great condition. Liking that colour!
Me too, and such a great name for it!
Beautiful example! I miss my 97 cl 5 speed every day!
Great cars for sure
I miss my 98 3.0
They are great rides!
that is beautiful. I love the design of 1st gen CL. Honda design was great back in the day. Today, all models look the same. they got lazy IMHO.
Thanks for watching!
there is a 97 2.2CL manual without leather for sale near me right now $3,800. i love the design but not sure if I should get another project car.
@@HiFiInsider sounds awesome, what color?
@@TysonHugie it's the light purple color and in decent shape. Listed on Craigslist in Bay Area.
Love me a CL!
Same!

Good feedback all around!
Hey one of my favorite cars. I have a custom sport performance 97 Acura CL with 110k I’d love to show you
Would love to check that out
Hey Tyson, I always watch you I like what your doing. I just brought a 1992 Acura Legend Coupe. I’m having one issue I need a another hood and I’m having a hard time finding one. Do you happen to know where one would be?
Depends on where you are located. I ended up using a hood from a parts car locally here in Arizona. Are there any junkyards near you?
Hey Tyson, Good news is I found one finally that wasn’t rusted out. I live in NY but the hood I purchased today is at a junkyard in South Carolina so it’s time for a road trip.
I haven't seen one in a while
Getting to be pretty rare
Hey I was wondering if you have had to touch up the paint how did you do it
Automotive touch up.com
franklin county! i swear i’ve seen this car around here
Haha yep he just moved to CA from OH.
-1 point for the aftermarket wipers :P Great car all around :D
Haha I didn't even notice!
Curious as to what in your opinion is the least desirable Honda/Acura?
That will definitely vary depending on who you ask. Maybe ILX Hybrid. Yes! Pretty incredible
How reliable are these ? I found one with 200k miles for a great deal, only manual I could find.
Very reliable. Basically Accord powertrain
I have one!! And I love it! 120k
Awesome!
door handles and steering wheel look lifted from the integra
A lot of parts were shared across vehicles during that era!
Got a 97 2.2L 5 speed cl n use it daily its a bldt bro
Nice ride!
I got 2.3 cl , 260k miles.
Very nice!
Reminds me of a Toyota Solara
Interesting
She's a looker.
