✅ A Cheaper GoPro: XTU S3 Action Cam Unboxing Review and Comparison GoPro Hero9

I unbox, review and compare the XTU S3 to my GoPro Hero9. I go over its features, bluetooth wristband remote, wifi, XTU Go app, etc. This is a cheaper alternative to the current line of GoPro Hero's. It comes with more accessories but does lack some features like field of view options, media mod kits, doesn't do 4K 60fps (but the XTU X1 does). Overall its a good value alternative especially if you are looking for an easy point and shoot action cam without the need for clear voice audio. I need a camera I can install inside my helmet, and with the XTU's mic not doing so well from a distance, I wonder how decent it will be when speaking inside my helmet with the camera being just a few inches from my mouth.

To be fair 160° FOV is wide. Its wider than hero8 can offer but between the "wide" and "superview" setting on the Hero9.

I look at an action cam more as a method of videoing action and not sitting at a table talking about them. The built in stabilization features are there for this reason. I’m not saying they can’t be used for day to day recording, just thought if you hooked it up to your kids bikes/motorcycle and run it around the track using the stability feature would of been nice.
Getting the jello out of a video has been a major break through and man drone pilots can attest to. But to pay 4-5 bills for that is tough. This XTU makes for a nice alternative.
GoPro missed the boat when they moved away from the GoPro 4 with a Bluetooth back pack. If we could find a real stabilized action camera that connects via Bluetooth to let’s say a Sena, then we are talking ACTION CAMERA.

I havent had the XTU freeze up but I have had the gopro freeze up many times. Firmware updates fix/break it but i've also heard they are sensitive to the SD card brand/type.

These cams are getting pretty good now but they all look like the drop a frame every so often. If they would improve their chipset that handles data transfer back and forth with the sd card then they would be worth it. Maybe the next generation. Till then I would stay with the gopro.

It takes a micro sd card. You want a class 10 or better for 4k video

Sound quality definitely seems worse on the XTU but looks like a decent camera on a budget. Probably great for b-roll

Yes the XTU is quieter. Similar to the older gopro's but i agree its a good value cam.

There is a difference in lighting and the Go Pro lighting beats the XTU imo.

Yes and maybe playing with the settings could change it like center weighted vs ave, etc.
