An interesting idea but i doubt they change the awards
The award is called, and please correct me if I am wrong, "Defensive PLAYER of the Year," is it not?! The award is NOT "Defensive Player that is on a winning team of the Year." Vic, by all rights, DESERVES this award hands down full stop.
Stat sheets don’t show when players hesitate to score near Wemby and decides to pass the ball instead. It’s basically a blocked shot like Draymond Green said.

You said it perfectly. The eye test as a spectator jumps off to you. Never have I seen someone call game by blocking the shot! So many times!
I don't know if Wemby is going to win DOPY or not (probably not), but he is definitely the best defender in the league.
Doesn't matter if the awards won't reflect that, if you've seen the 3 on 1 vs Memphis you saw that the rest of the league knows who's the scariest mother fucker out there on defense.
best defender in the league, low key hate that the Memphis clip went viral like it did. It's cut off at the end, wemby closed out sloppy and the guy got an open layup. But there have been better instances of Wemby stopping a fastbreak on his own.
@@HawksHoops I honestly don't think it really matter how that clip ended, if they scored or not, or even if Wemby played bad defense. His presence alone made 3 grown man play hot potato with the ball like when kids play against their dad. What makes it a great highlight was the fear in their eyes 😜

I’m just gonna say this being a Spurs fan since before the Admiral got here, Timmy is said to be arguably the greatest big man defender of all time yet doesn’t have 1 DPOY and there are people who want to see that Rudy tie that record I’m still confused by this line of reasoning. I appreciate your choice my man. 🤷🏾♂️

If you're building a franchise with a focus on defense, who are you picking at center? Nobody's picking Rudy over Wemby for sure.
His stats are ridiculous, but as a Sixers fan, idk how someone wins DPOY while letting Embiid and Maxey both get their career highs against him (70 and 52). It's kinda funny because Gobert let Embiid and Simmons score their career highs against him at one point, coincidental passing of the torch
Hahaha facts i didnt make the connection to rudy but thats facts I remember that Ben game
...wemby wasn't guarding maxey...and when he played embiid wemby was on minute restriction wemby played 28 minutes that game embid played 37...more than half of those points were not on wemby...and wemby a rookie got 33 points on the MVP while playing 28 minutes and been in foul trouble
@@spursfan1775 You're right : Embiid scored 16 points on Wemby in this game. He put 23 on Collins head and made more than 20 fts. Sometimes Wemby is the only guy who plays D in the Spurs. That's why they are dead last in D when he is out.
WEMBY ROY DPOY
Even if Gobert does win DPOY, he will have an asterisk next to his name because he wasn’t the actual best defensive player for the 23-24 season.
I think he deserves it but gobert will prob get it

In the horrific scénario where wenbanyama could not play anymore for Health reason, in a x future, giving it to Gobert while wenbanyama is the first this years, on a individual reward stat wise cause " lol he will get it for sûre, or Gobert is our men we like it " it's a shame to me.

Wemby has compelling case as DPOY, but let's give it to Rudy Gobert one last time. DPOY will belong to Wemby for as long as he is playing the minimum required playing games for each season.
