The San Antonio Spurs have the NBA's next Defensive Player of the Year in Victor Wembanyama. I don't understand the rules of the DPOY. But I feel the player that impacts the games he is in and the season playing in should be the winner. Not the team if the team is involved then it should be a team award. The top ranked team defense. I still feel it should be an individual award and the player most disruptive to the opposition is the DPOY, regardless of the team record. So with that said VW is the winner to me. This year hands down!! 👽

They ended the season strong winning games against top comp and losing closely...with vassel and sochan out. They may be a surprise playoff team next season
I think for him to win MVP his team would need to make playoffs. I’m a huge spurs fan, so excited to see who we draft and what talent we bring in. If we can do enough, maybe we’d slid into the play in next year, and even steal the 7th or 8th seed. I can see us winning 45ish games next year as long as we can get wemby some real defensive help, and some shooters. Hopefully by his 3rd year, the Spurs will be a top 5 team in the West and winning closer to 55 games than 45 games, and that might be when we see him get that MVP

He 100% deserves it. Only thing Rudy has is team record. If Rudy wins it it's either an unspoken rule that a rookie can only win roty or they want to give a last one to Gobert before Wemby's take over.

Wemby deserves DPOY and he will probably deserve it for the next few years. What he's doing is unprecedented. Gobert's team is at the top but how much of it is because of his defense? He's been a top defender for several years now but it's only now that he's anchoring the defense of a contender.

When he’s off the floor spurs are the worst defence in the nba, when he’s on the floor they are top 3. He makes the biggest impact than anyone in the league defensively.

The rationale behind denying Victor DPOY is nonsense. He is defending against the best in the NBA and besting them.
They won’t give it to him but TBH he should win DPOY, NBA first team, ROY NBA, all defensive first team. Hell you could argue MVP with the numbers he’s putting up but that’s not realistic as there is other actual arguments for MVP.

I have heard two arguments against Victor: 1) his team was not good (although if they had played the beginnng of the year the way they played at the end, they would've made the playoffs), therefore he can't win and 2) he's a rookie and needs to "pay his dues"; rookies compete for ROY, not DPOY. I think your video debunks the first point very well (Victor's had arguably the most statistically impressive defensive season ever); the second is a pile o' crap and voters who say that shouldn't be voting.

If it were Chet in the Spurs putting up Wemby's defensive numbers now, not only would he be DPOY, he would have won it unanimously. But the NBA don't want a foreign player win ROTY & DPOY in his rookie season.
This has NEVER been done. So they'll rather give a foreign vet player in Rudy than to give it to Wemby - The NBA is rigged.
Foreign NBA players this season should win ALL the accolades (including Finals MVP) this season, but the NBA will make sure Denver Nuggets or Dallas Mavericks don't win the finals.

It's Defensive Player Award not Defensive Team Award. Vic is by far the best defensive player in the league and deserves the nod.
