I can assume you didn't see Jordan and Shaq their rookie years (not to mention Wilt or Kareem) to name a few people. That being said, without the minutes restriction, I think Wemby belongs in the conversation for the best rookie season in the modern era (since 1980).
As a spurs fan I would love nothing more, but DPOY is a different kind of race and with Spurs defensive rating being 24th worst in NBA hard to give him the nod for DPOY

Minnesota has two defensive stars and they are a worse defense than Spurs with Wemby on the floor. Wemby has been getting blocks are a far higher rate recently than anyone has pace for STOCKS. Dude is easily the best defender in the entire league, 3/4 of the way into his rookie season.

I respect Chet for the repeated punishments he’s taking from Victor in head-to-head games. He would be ROTY if it wasn’t for Wemby, but it is. And it’s a no contest.

He's one of the best scorers as a rookie ever, and is incredibly efficient as far as rookies go, he's already on his way to be an elite shooter by season end, let alone what we'll see his sophomore szn. As a Spurs fan I’m worried that if the Spurs don’t rush and put the right pieces around Wemby he’s gonna wanna go somewhere else. I really hope that Wemby has patients because the Spurs will do right by him. It’s just going to take some time.
His career moves and his interviews show he cares more about the team providing him with the means to grow and making him the center pawn rather than just winning games. He's very competitive, but so much so he needs to feel he made a difference and it's something he wouldn't feel as much in a bigger team.

Two things about this choice : Victor himself confirmed it's videos of KD's games he grew up watching the most, that he looks up to him, and when asked by Malika what special moment of his current year in the NBA he would pick, he said the moment he played against KD came to mind. If a generational talent has chosen another player as his role model, it says something about the two of them. Then there was the incident of the beer-holding Mav's fan shouting abuse at KD, who calmy had words with that couple and was a class act. To me no great player is that great if his personality does not match his skills. After all, I started getting interested in BB with Magic Johnson, so... I'd love to get a Kevin Durant jersey, if I can't get a Wembanyama one ! My third choice would be Dominick Barlow, i'm very curious about his potential with the Spurs.
