Chris is right about Pakistan having roti, but its more the plain chappati version we call that. We have a version just like this at breakfast that we call paranthas, you can get them stuffed with cheese, aloo (potato) and keema (minced meat). They’re often served with daal or chana (chickpea curry).

I still think the best breakfast for me is Nasi Lemak, I know taste is subjective but I have to have it 2-3 times a week for breakfast. Even when I go overseas, the only thing I miss is Nasi lemak. That guy making the roti is very cool. Roti chanai is basically parotta elsewhere in the world, it originated in the state of Karnataka, India.

Nice....so wonderful to note Americans enjoying local breakfast like roti canai. This definitely was a "no-no" amongst expats say about 30 years ago. Roti canai's origins are from South India where its known as parotta in Kerala and Madurai or pratha roti generally. Alot of Keralites have migrated to Msia and they used to run most of the hawker centre type eateries until covid came along. The "lentil" sauce is actually "sambhar" from Chennai, Tamil Nadu but the Msians have changed it with some flavourings.
