Man, there's always a ton of preparation work behind the scenes for these restorations - thanks for hanging with me today for some of it - you guys ROOOOCK!! Thank you for watching my video! If you enjoyed, hit the like button and consider subscribing 🤘😎
Man I wish I got to you before you got a frame . My buddy has a titled frame that has gussets from bare racing . I think he only wanted 200 bucks . But yah I never heard of that company but on the gussets they have bare cut into them so I guess they made gusset kits for ltz frames
Sabo I got an idea for your retro build. You should get two led pods and mount them to the bars in order to mimic the lt-250r lights. Also if you haven’t picked out bars yet please buy some faast flexx handlebars they are game changing. Also make sure you buy some super bright bulbs they are amazing and they don’t look like that crud luminescent orange/yellow Also if you didn’t know the z400 swing ais ms had a terrible design so I would recommend having it welded or get a nice aftermarket one(I bought a fireball racing one) You can also have the fly wheel lightened to make it feel more like a 450 You should also do a stage 2 cam and 434 kit or a 440 kit but that’s just my preference I know you want to use oem but I would recommend an fcr 39mm kit I know you have you master plan but these mods aren’t super visible, besides the lights, and they make a huge impact on rider experience and fun factor.
Dear Mr.Sabo, will you do a Honda Odyssey build but a performance built sabo edition! Fan recommendation #2 500cc 2 stroke dirt bike, whatever you chose (cr500 like a man ) restoration with only 80s to early 90s performance parts nothing newly made ! Thanks for the blaster videos. Also, now I'm getting one much love, man !
You need to build a small building in your yard that looks like a small ATV showroom floor for these builds you're doing it would be so cool if you could make them look like they are sitting on the floor in a shower room and it would be a nice place for you to store them and have them all together your content is great and I love every build I've seen!!!!
Thump Nail looks Amazing!!😮 Chase those threads after you chamfer them... Honestly you should chamfer before you tap, makes the tap grab sooner and you don't need to chamfer after. JS?! 😊 Also most larger taps have a center point in them, get yourself a spotting drill bit, or a scribe bit, and you can use your drill press or mill to hold straight downward pressure while you turn the tap with a wrench! 🔧 Hey, The More You Know! Excellent Video and I'm stoked about this retro build!
I did hit up power sports Nation. I got front bumper, bars, battery box and rear skid for my trx125. Awesome looking parts at Awesome prices loved it. Thank you for suggesting them
@@MichaelSabo lol be cool to shout me out in a video man I'll keep em coming I don't have an IG handle or anything but it would make my week dude 🤘😎 always a pleasure brotha!!
Sabo love that your dropping vids like every few days again my dude is back at the grind hard I love it and I absolutely love that you show all the little things you do to the builds that people have no idea how much time and blood sweat and tears goes into this stuff keep doing your thing my man
Love the video, you always inspire me to work on Atvs/dirt bikes!!! I’m rebuilt a 1990 CR124r and I just feel like working on it 😂 keep up the great content 👍👍
Hey Mike, professional welder here. Wire speed sounded a little high, if you back it down just a little from where you had it, should be about perfect. It will get rid of the splatter also. If you are ever worried about welding a gusset onto a thin frame, while you are welding keep most the arc on the thicker piece and just kinda wash the puddle over onto the thinner frame just until it fuses and then move back to the thicker piece. With a 110v machine you shouldn’t be able to set it hot enough to burn a hole in that thick gusset. .023/.024 solid work best in those 110v machines. Good work, loving this series.
I no this is old but I’m 40 and grew up with that quad and bought a raptor 660R new in 03 and my best friend got the z400 good times. I love what you do and watch all your builds I am doing a blaster for my son and that’s how I came across your channel I watched one video and now I’m hooked lol keep it up.
Can’t wait tell it’s done, like I’ve always said to you Mike you are amazingly talented at what you do. Keep up the great wk. still gotta get you out to Oregon to ride the dunes lol 😂. One day I know u will get out my way.
With each episode of this build, the more I wish I still had my 05. My favorite part of this video was you saying you were keeping it as your main ride! Hell yea man! 🤘🏻
man i have a LTR 450 quad racer and all ball joints are fixed - its so silly -.- That being said, I think this is the only vid showing someone tapping them wOOT WOOOTTT thanks dude!
Man....this is awesome! Can't wait to see the final results. Have you ever thought about rebuilding a quadsport 230? Not that they are desirable but I haven't seen one in at least 20 years
Since you're not doing a purely OEM build I would consider a YFZ FCR carb upgrade. I feel that this is something they may have done had they done a special edition. A DRZ base gasket is another upgrade option that is a suzuki part for a touch more compression.
Man for the bearing barrier a hot plate seems to get the job done just lay them there till it gets out sometimes they drop by themselves it’s super easy
Coming in clutch with the video. Was really needing something to watch and your videos are my all time favorite. Thanks for what you do my guy. Your the man
Man I love watching your videos and what you restore. I know this is a z400 but I bought a 400ex a few years back and have cleaned it up myself. I never though that I could until I started watching you. I did the graphic kit design and everything. Thanks for the videos. Keep them coming.
that is badass dude !! i like the A arm upgrade and the gussets . while you have the studs for the lug nuts out go ahead and put titanium back in with titanium lug nuts also . thats an mx trick 🤙🤙
I got an ltz 400, at the same time you do, it runs perfectly but im trying to make it look like new as well and looking at your videos makes me excited
Bro, I didn’t even think about cutting off the lower ball joint, everyone I know just swapped a-arms with an aftermarket +0 with replaceable ball joints, or they would just swap to a +2 or +3. I swapped mine with a +1 back in the day to run in XC races. I ended up never running that quad, I had kids and got out of racing for a bit. Watching you build this is making me want to get another one and set it up for XC again and ACTUALLY run it. I started off running a blaster at age 12, at 17 I went to a 250R, then since my parents split up when I was younger her it got harder and harder for my dad to keep me into it. I got back into it in my late 20’s and ran a 400EX for a while, but life happened and I couldn’t continue racing. Now that my kids are teenagers I’m wanting to get back into XC racing at 38 years old. I’m building a 250R currently, and I have another 400EX, but the 400EX is just down on power compared to the Z. I’m seriously considering building a big bore z400, maybe a 436 kit. After that just run a nice carb, cams, exhaust, and filter. They don’t need much to really build power. Add a little porting and they can easily push up to 50hp on pump gas, you don’t need much more in XC. Put a decent suspension on it and it will be competitive against 450s in my class, and eventually I can let my oldest daughter run the 400EX and eventually the z400 when I move on to a 450.
38 is young man! I see really fast guys in their 50s and even 60s still ripping hard. I didn't know they even made +0 a arms for the Z but yea dude, this was a mod I discovered years back - works great!
@@MichaelSabo oh yeah, they make +0 arms for a lot of models, and they also make -1 and -2 a-arms for some of the wide models like the new YFZ and the old LTR450 because ideal width for XC is 46-48”. Now with the rise of Side by Sides the trails have gotten wider in a lot of places so more people are taking stock width YFZ’s on the trails that there were in the past, but sometimes there are still very tight technical sections that a 49” or 50” will get hung up in on XC tracks. Some of the +0 or even negative width A-arms are also curved for ground clearance and some are long travel even though long travel isn’t needed with XC as much as for MX. Most XC racers run standard travel setups but with super nice shocks.
