Housework Ramble! Connecting with Deities as a Pantheist

  • This one contains some thoughts about my experiences as a pantheist who has a matron deity (and near enough an army of divine beings and interactive archetypes to call upon at any given moment). If you have been wanting to focus on working with deities but feel unsure of how it fits into your framework, this MIGHT be helpful, although I admit that I do go off on tangents and it is pretty 'off the cuff'.

One of my favourite parts in all of Harry Potter is the bit where he asks Dumbledore, near the end of Deathly Hallows - 'is this real, or just in my head?' and Dumbledore says 'well, of course it's in your head, Harry, but why on earth would that mean it isn't real?'

That is so very much the way I approach spirituality. Like. It's completely possible to create your own, very real, very legitimate, realities!

"Your disappointment comes from recognizing that I'm not the version of me that you have invented."
Oh, I love this video! I'm sure that the disappointment served as such an amazing imperfect mirror, and that he learned something crucial about this own belief system in the process. But - ohhhh how we judge! LOL. I've been there, on both sides of the coin, and every time I've felt judged for disappointing someone else - and every time I've felt disappointed myself - I've learned a great deal about what makes me tick.
Thank you for being brave enough to spearhead this discussion. And for helping me to detangle some of my own thoughts around this. ♡ I am sure that If I were to share the full rabbit hole of my spirituality I would be publicly crucified for taking what's NOT mine and absolutely falling in love with it, or for changing what IS mine into something else entirely.... and for getting things only 50% right, when they align with the blue moon.... on Tuesdays. :D
F#$! we take other people's beliefs and perceptions so seriously!
I straddle so many paths in my personal work that sometimes it feels like a giant ball of rubber bands with tendrils that stretch out and connect all around. Yet somehow, amazingly, they all seem to work together perfectly. My evolving, changing framework of stretchy rubber bands grounds me from a million different places, which is often exactly what I need to feel secure. And I am so grateful that I gave myself permission to be FAR too creative with my own faith, because living IN THE GREY (instead of in the black and white) has proven to be a lively, soul satisfying and delicious choice.
I think after this video I am actually going to label my spiritual path, and call myself a bona-fide-rubber-band-spiritual-straddle-ist. :D
Thank you so much for sharing so openly Kelly-Ann! It was perfect timing for a shiny new connection of understanding that was needed, and you've helped ground some thoughts that have been rattling around in my mind.
    xo
Hope you're having a wonderful November!

I think that the need to compartmentalize, define and judge another person's spiritual beliefs is completly ego based and we all know how easily threatened ego can be. My core belief system includes extraterrestrials. Try that one on for size. Lol lol lol. Love these cleaning chats!

This is like the second or third vid of yours I've listened to. I enjoyed this rant. I'm a note taker so I did that. My path has gotten really interesting this past year and this past month I have shed and let go of so much. The vacuum is filling with exhilarating new paradigms and muses. You being one. I have always had a secret mystical life since childhood. I am finally nurturing it. Your words were echos of thoughts I have lived with.

I know I'm late to the party, but I just watched this while tidying up. ;) You're doing an amazing job of explaining the concept of deity here. The formulation about "that part of my psyche that is laced with Hel" is SO perfect! Feeling drawn to a god or goddess archetype is, at its core, a huge statement about a part of yourself that wants to be explored, like a portal that makes it easier to step from consciousness into unconsciousness little by little. Thank you for this 😌

Just had my morning coffee with your video, as I often do. I absolutely understand your approach to deities, it looks like it's pretty much identical to mine - coming at it from a jungian perspective of archetypes + the small aid of chaos magick. I had no idea that you're a pantheist too!

I've just found your channel earlier today while looking up videos on the Goddess Hel. From that particular video that I first clicked on, to your latest altar video, and then to this one, you've struck a chord and I've been finding myself alternately saying "thank-you", "of course", and more often "YES! Someone else who gets it!" among other things of a similar nature. I even feel comfortable enough to tell you this without wanting to apologize if I make you feel weird or uncomfortable because something tells me that you may also "get it" as it were: Watching you feels like home, and I haven't found a single thing out of the three or maybe four videos of yours that I've watched so far that I don't understand perfectly on some level or another. I'm hooked. *g*

I get what you are saying about things being lost in translation! It's a little frustrating and part of the reason I haven't made many vids lately. Having said that, I do usually pick up what you're putting down and always love hearing how your mind works! Being a pantheist and also working with personified deity makes sense to me, I work with personified deity a fair bit myself now and I see how it can work within a lot of frameworks other than just hard polytheism. I am loving the "cleaning your kitchen talking to your camera" video making format, and YES I got some shiz done watching this vid! Haha! MUCH LOVE ❤️❤️

  • @JessicaandtheMoon

I did my dishes and started to get stuff together for a soup while I was watching/ listening. You're spot on about there always being something lost in translation - I feel like that's part of our purpose here on earth (not just on yt :D), to find ways of communicating so that we can be understood, be seen, and connect. Whether that's through art, writing, or when talking about our beliefs.
It's so cool to hear you talking about your journey to working with personified deity, and how that does not conflict with a pantheist paradigm. I was having a similar shaking of my belief system recently, where I am being pulled by something I did not truly believe in. I was so grateful for your tarot reading around this a couple of weeks ago. Things are slotting into place. I'm not forcing it through with thinking, or holding my beliefs rigid. And that is so helpful.
And yeah, I like to read the tea bag tags too

I love your starry robe, you look like a grand wizard! Hurling down truths while getting shit done. And I get this. I LOVE this. I resonate so strongly with your thoughts on deity, gonna re-watch this one. It reminds me of two quotes.
"The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function." - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Also, 20:48: "Look at my face. Am I bovvered?" - Catherine Tate! 💪👏 😂

I'm loving your housework rambles! Last time I got the dishes done. This time I did not, but I might have to listen to it again tomorrow and use it as motivation to get some things done. I see a comment below this by someone who just discovered your channel and is watching/ listening to all of your old videos. It's been a while since I've dug into your playlists. There might be one or two of your videos that I haven't watched, and if that is the case there is probably some shadow content in there for me to examine because I love to hear your views on everything. LoL. I should probably trying going to sleep soon, but it will be interesting to see how the weekend plays out. I'll let you know if your videos keep me company while I get things done this weekend. Have a lovely weekend! Many blessings to you and yours. :-)

Do you think that people misunderstanding or misinterpreting your path has more to do with their inability to “let go” of their own ideas about spirituality? I’m in the Deep South of the USA and people here tend to be extremely dogmatic. I regularly have people asking me if Yoga is “Christian”. One of my yoga teachers friends had to find a new doctor because he kept telling her that Yoga is all about worshiping Hindu gods.
It seems like so many people have just accepted what they’ve been told to be true and haven’t begun to think about what they believe. So they can’t even imagine having a completely personalized spiritual path.
I love your raw honesty and humanity. Thank you for being so open and sharing with us!

Loved this video! :) I think the reason I hate labels is because it makes me feel forced to stick to certain beliefs. I say I'm a witch, pantheist, or anything I feel restricted. In recent years my beliefs have really evolved and I've discovered new ways of spiritual work and I'm glad I can just keep moving in whatever direction like that.

You're so smart!!!!!! I feel less weird! I'm a pantheist with conflicting feelings but you're really right, that there is a harmony between pantheism and other belief systems. Everything is the universal divine but of course we can zoom in on what we are interested in and that doesn't make you less pantheist.

  • @headologythewitch2591
    @headologythewitch2591 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I've come to accept that my absolute devotion to working with deities in a way that, from the outside, looks like hard polytheism is not something I'm in a position to justify from a scientific standpoint. And this is just the price of doing business my way, a reflection of the fact that I care more about what works and what feels meaningful than what's accurate or theoretically bulletproof. Perhaps one day the strange "in between" territory I work in will miraculously resolve itself and come to jive with what is otherwise my view of the greater reality I occupy, but until such a time comes along, I've somehow found myself on ground that's solid enough to carry on despite the fact that it shifts a bit beneath my feat. The thought that's front and centre in my mind, though, is never that "this doesn't make sense", but that I don't yet understand all the mechanisms turning behind the scenes that keep the whole sound and functional. I have no idea where my explorations will end, but I'm dead certain it'll never be in "shouldn't have bothered" territory.

I don't what it is about your videos that always makes me want to reply to you, but here I am again ahahaha. First off, the house work rambles are literally THE bomb. So cas, but just like deep. Killer idea.
I feel you on this, on so many levels. I am a pantheist.. and yet I have a matron and work with personified deity. From the moment I decided I wanted to be a witch, and work within the world of witchcraft, I actually never had an issue of why the two could not work. If I am an individual of a whole, and so are you, and so is my dog, and that chair, and the Archangels, fairies, and whatever else it is people believe in.. well why can't deity be? We know that in New Age communities people work with another label of deity that is "Ascended Master," yet they understand that this is a still part of the one. Gravity, Mars, Pleiades.. all of those things are things part of one. It could even be possible for deity to exist in a real form, that the human eye cannot perceive because it is still part of the ONE. It is still Source expressing and discovering itself in millions upon millions of facets. If Source/Universe permeates everything, why not my matron or Hel? I was once remember Joey Morris saying, there are 7 billion people in this world, and so "God", "Higher Power", "Universe" will appear in 7 billion different ways. For me my matron is a face, to make me comfortable with the unfathomable thing that is Source. I also like you, self-parent, and for me it was not that simple to just do it on my own, I invited in a support system, and so Diana came to me. My own mother who is my bestest friend, still left me with trauma, and I naturally gravitated to a Goddess who is wild, a protectoress, a warrior, a Goddess of powerful womanly moon energy.. I come to her like a mother, where she gives me the safety to be exactly who I am.. sometimes reckless, oversensitive and sure as hell wild. Just like I talk to Archangel Michael in my Angelic Reiki sessions because he is a tangible idea to anchor when sometimes Source has no specific facade. So, why the fuck not man? hahahaha.
I also feel part of the reason why our spirituality can be so hard to communicate, especially when you're a Pantheist is because the whole, is so much bigger than we could ever even grasp... the second we try to formulate that into the words, we've mislabeled what we will never truly be able to understand.
Wooooh, sorry for the ramble beautiful lady, but go you! This is amazing really. Keep ranting in your kitchen about things that inspire you.
    Endless endless love

Louder for the people in the back! I was raised loosely Catholic, I stopped believing in any Deity from a very young age, but was always fascinated and attracted to religions and the concept of faith. Now I'm on the witchy spectrum, finding my path and my feet as I go. I was surprised to discover how many witchy folks can be as rigid as the more 'mainstream' religions. I wonder why so many people feel threatened in their own faith when they meet or hear someone who doesn't see things quite their way. What does it change to their faith? Why does it make them uncomfortable? I totally relate to that bullying self-talk, it's something I've been slowly undoing over the years. All it does is stop me from exploring and growing. I think people also get uncomfortable with the concept of 'phases' and trying things on for a spin. How else do you get to know yourself? To learn what you like and don't like? What works for you and what doesn't? This idea that we are supposed to just magically know who we are and what we like and set it in stone forever is so strange to me. I've changed so much over the past 7 years and I'm the better for it. I love these chatty videos! I was decluttering the heck out of my room, and the flow is so much better in there now! Also a very on point and on my mind subject.

Pantheism does not exclude polytheism - you can have both in the same picture. For example, check out Hinduism. My favourite example!
I have the same mother problem due to generations of abuse and neglect in the maternal line. This is where the Fairy Godmother steps in. The magical mother, the matron.
I totally get what you're talking about, so don't worry about the ones who don't get it.

I see my relationship with my practice as spiritual anarchy, when you were talking about moving between different forms, centres of sacred focus and deity I kept thinking, this is how I live my life as a Relationship anarchist, and it makes sense that my practice would embody the same values and drives of being able to take each individual connection and relationship in its own space. It doesn't diminish my love or commitment to other partners, and I feel the same way with my Deity. Each one holds its signature energy and reverence. I can see the same things in my own mother as well, which leads me to coming to a place of compassion, despite her abuse towards me, and my siblings, and it is when I found my own path that I really did come to realise that self parenting was a huge part of my practice as well.

I love this video as well. I'm not one with the gift of verbal communication, but I love everything about this. I get this type of judgment often over my beliefs in the Annunaki/ancient aliens theory/ and my spiritual beliefs in the craft....and how can I believe in both...and how can they relate...and I never know how to explain it, but this really hit home that , that's ok.

Just making lunch for me and my wonderful teen daughter after having a long convo with eachother earlier about relationships and trying to give good parental tips (hopefully being helpful).
For a long time I rejected the Goddess that kept trying to connect because I was afraid of Her. My idea of what I needed wasnt what I needed (nobody wants a kick up the arse lol) but Im so glad I eventually stopped ignoring the insistant nudges and synchronicity that was happening and finally let Her in. I still have doubts and question about what exactly this energy/being is but dont let it stop me exploring that relationship.
And yum to Pukka Love - ive run out recently so thanks for the reminder to restock 😊

I love watching the videos of you doing housework while chatting since I'm usually doing housework when watching your videos anyway. It's like an Escher drawing.
Regarding peoples' opinions of your opposing beliefs: I have always used Samuel Johnson's term "Discordia Concors (harmonious discord : harmony or unity gained by combining disparate or conflicting elements)" to describe the Chaos/Alchemical elements in my practice. Also, taken from the coat of arms of one of my favorite people (Niels Bohr): Contraria Sunt Complementa (Opposites are complementary). Some people can't find their way out of the box they've put themselves in but keep on keeping on right past them.

Can I just say how epic this video is. Just the other day I found myself having such great difficulty explaining my own personal spirituality and the other person was just so baffled. And I was baffled because I didn't know how to explain it better to make more sense for them. Thank you for aiding me in this understanding, ehe.

Once again, this was a wonderful video to play in the background to contemplate as I did my dishes. It also made me reconsider my approach to personified deity. I’m still not there yet, but I do have some symbols and things for Ganesha I use for road-opening work. But I’m just not “there” yet to start a direct relationship, even though the idea constantly nags the back of my mind. This has opened my mind a little bit to perhaps reconsider.

Kelly, sometimes when people have snubbing comments, they are on utube just entertaining themselves, its like watching TV only they can write a sarcastic or goofy remark. Some of these people have no clue what spirituality actually is. And now people can listen to people speaking within a hidden belief such as Witchcraft because of utube. Otherwise it would Still be that of a horror movie to them. They just don't freakin' get it. Much love to you Blessed be.

I think it's hard for some people to take it in. The other thing is, when you're listening to someone on youtube you're experiencing their point of view, via a monologue. I think in order to totally be on the same wavelength with someone or agree to disagree, you need a dialogue. And that's tough considering the medium. I find it ridiculous that they get upset when they don't even know you. Anyway... just my humble opinion ;)

So Anni from MirthandReverence had this concept called ''simultaneous holding'', which basically means the exercise of sitting with conflicting beliefs and just letting them be side by side. And that's pretty much how I feel about this. I both believe and don't believe in actual deities. Depending on what I do. I guess it's a very chaos magician thing to do.

Thankyou I love the idea of working with archetypes, its new for me. I want to try and invoke the king to help me embrace my divine masculine. Also I work with Jesus Christ and do the course in miracles every day so just because my deity is well known I would never dismiss someone who works with another. Also I love being nosey and seeing other peoples stuff so thanks for the peek into your kitchen.

I agree with what you are saying. I was fortunate enough to attend and listen to a woman who has more than one Phd speak about Mythology. This was a couple years back. (I was taught in school growing up to believe that Mythology was not real, that it was fake or fantasy). I was able to ask several questions to this public speaker. She clarified for me that a Myth is a Story that is real. A Myth is explaining a natural or social phenomenon that typically involves supernatural beings or events. If you are interested, watch the Movie "Gods of Egypt". I have watched it five times and examined the archetypes which in the movie is accurate. There is evidence that humans existed that range in 15 - 30/35 feet tall. Beings from other planets exist. Gods and Goddess truly exist, have existed and continue to exist. Just saying. XO

How interesting that people get so worked up about deities, pantheons and the cosmos. I have always found it fascinating that ever since human beings have existed we have always had an innate need and natural pull to create, explain and work with something or someone bigger and more important than ourselves, something spiritual that we can connect with, but that also oversees us or walks with us in a divine way. That is definitely not some hooey going on. There is a reason, though we may never know, here on Earth, the "why" of it all. It certainly allows me to connect with my very ancient ancestors on a entirely new level...deep and dark around the fire, staring at the drawings on the cave wall and telling stories of the stars.... :)
